Effect of coolant gas injection in the stagnation region on the surface heat transfer rates and aerodynamic drag for a large angle blunt body flying at hypersonic Mach number is reported for two stagnation enthalpies. A 60° apex-angle blunt cone model is employed for this purpose with air injection at the nose through a hole of 2mm diameter. The convective surface heating rates and aerodynamic drag are measured simultaneously using surface mounted platinum thin film sensors and internally mounted accelerometer balance system, respectively. About 35–40% reduction in surface heating rates is observed in the vicinity of stagnation region whereas 15–25% reduction in surface heating rates is felt beyond the stagnation region at stagnation enthalpy of 1.6MJ/kg. The aerodynamic drag expressed in terms of drag coefficient is found to increase by 20% due to the air injection.

During summer, the northern Indian Ocean exhibits significant atmospheric intraseasonal variability associated with active and break phases of the monsoon in the 30-90 days band. In this paper, we investigate mechanisms of the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) signature of this atmospheric variability, using a combination of observational datasets and Ocean General Circulation Model sensitivity experiments. In addition to the previously-reported intraseasonal SST signature in the Bay of Bengal, observations show clear SST signals in the Arabian Sea related to the active/break cycle of the monsoon. As the atmospheric intraseasonal oscillation moves northward, SST variations appear first at the southern tip of India (day 0), then in the Somali upwelling region (day 10), northern Bay of Bengal (day 19) and finally in the Oman upwelling region (day 23). The Bay of Bengal and Oman signals are most clearly associated with the monsoon active/break index, whereas the relationship with signals near Somali upwelling and the southern tip of India is weaker. In agreement with previous studies, we find that heat flux variations drive most of the intraseasonal SST variability in the Bay of Bengal, both in our model (regression coefficient, 0.9, against similar to 0.25 for wind stress) and in observations (0.8 regression coefficient); similar to 60% of the heat flux variation is due do shortwave radiation and similar to 40% due to latent heat flux. On the other hand, both observations and model results indicate a prominent role of dynamical oceanic processes in the Arabian Sea. Wind-stress variations force about 70-100% of SST intraseasonal variations in the Arabian Sea, through modulation of oceanic processes (entrainment, mixing, Ekman pumping, lateral advection). Our similar to 100 km resolution model suggests that internal oceanic variability (i.e. eddies) contributes substantially to intraseasonal variability at small-scale in the Somali upwelling region, but does not contribute to large-scale intraseasonal SST variability due to its small spatial scale and random phase relation to the active-break monsoon cycle. The effect of oceanic eddies; however, remains to be explored at a higher spatial resolution.

In this Letter the results of an experimental investigation of 1 keV electron irradiation of a 1:1 ice mixture of NH3:CO2 at 30 K was made under ultrahigh vacuum (10(-9) mbar) conditions. Molecular products formed within the ice were detected and monitored using FTIR spectroscopy. The formation of ammonium ions (NH4+), cyanate ions (OCN-), CO was observed leading to the synthesis of ammonium carbamate (NH4NH2CO2). The results of an experimental investigation of 1 keV electron irradiation of ices (deposited at 30 K) of (i) pure methanol and (ii) of a 1:1 mixture of NH3:CH3OH are reported. Molecular products formed within the ice were detected and monitored using FTIR spectroscopy. The products observed were methyl formate (H3COHCO), methane (CH4), hydroxymethyl (CH2OH), formamide (HCONH2), formic acid (HCOOH), formaldehyde (H2CO), formyl radical (HCO), cyanate ion (OCN-), isocyanic acid (HNCO), carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Compositions with x <= 0.30 in the system (1- x)Pb(Zro(0.52)Ti(0.48))O-3-(x)BiFeO3 were synthesized by sol-gel method. Rietveld analysis of X-ray diffraction data reveals tetragonal structure (P4mm) for x <= 0.05 and monoclinic (Cm) phase along with the existence of tetragonal phase for 0.10 <= x <= 0.25 and monoclinic phase for x = 0.30. Transformation of E(2TO) and E + B1 vibrational modes in the range 210-250 cm(-1) (present for x <= 0.25) into A' + A `' modes at similar to 236 cm(-1) for x = 0.30, and occurrence of new vibrational modes A' and A `' in Raman spectra for x >= 0.10 unambiguously support the presence of monoclinic phase. Occurrence of remnant polarisation and enhanced magnetization with concentration of BiFeO3 indicates superior multiferroic properties. Variation of magneto-capacitance with applied magnetic field is a strong evidence of magneto-electric multiferroic coupling in these materials. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The local fast-spiking interneurons (FSINs) are considered to be crucial for the generation, maintenance, and modulation of neuronal network oscillations especially in the gamma frequency band. Gamma frequency oscillations have been associated with different aspects of behavior. But the prolonged effects of gamma frequency synaptic activity on the FSINs remain elusive. Using whole cell current clamp patch recordings, we observed a sustained decrease of intrinsic excitability in the FSINs of the dentate gyrus (DG) following repetitive stimulations of the mossy fibers at 30 Hz (gamma bursts). Surprisingly, the granule cells (GCs) did not express intrinsic plastic changes upon similar synaptic excitation of their apical dendritic inputs. Interestingly, pairing the gamma bursts with membrane hyperpolarization accentuated the plasticity in FSINs following the induction protocol, while the plasticity attenuated following gamma bursts paired with membrane depolarization. Paired pulse ratio measurement of the synaptic responses did not show significant changes during the experiments. However, the induction protocols were accompanied with postsynaptic calcium rise in FSINs. Interestingly, the maximum and the minimum increase occurred during gamma bursts with membrane hyperpolarization and depolarization respectively. Including a selective blocker of calcium-permeable AMPA receptors (CP-AMPARs) in the bath; significantly attenuated the calcium rise and blocked the membrane potential dependence of the calcium rise in the FSINs, suggesting their involvement in the observed phenomenon. Chelation of intracellular calcium, blocking HCN channel conductance or blocking CP-AMPARs during the experiment forbade the long lasting expression of the plasticity. Simultaneous dual patch recordings from FSINs and synaptically connected putative GCs confirmed the decreased inhibition in the GCs accompanying the decreased intrinsic excitability in the FSINs. Experimentally constrained network simulations using NEURON predicted increased spiking in the GC owing to decreased input resistance in the FSIN. We hypothesize that the selective plasticity in the FSINs induced by local network activity may serve to increase information throughput into the downstream hippocampal subfields besides providing neuroprotection to the FSINs. The influence of Pt layer thickness on the fracture behavior of PtNiAl bond coats was studied in situ using clamped micro-beam bend tests inside a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Clamped beam bending is a fairly well established micro-scale fracture test geometry that has been previously used in determination of fracture toughness of Si and PtNiAl bond coats. The increasing amount of Pt in the bond coat matrix was accompanied by several other microstructural changes such as an increase in the volume fraction of alpha-Cr precipitate particles in the coating as well as a marginal decrease in the grain size of the matrix. In addition, Pt alters the defect chemistry of the B2-NiAl structure, directly affecting its elastic properties. A strong correlation was found between the fracture toughness and the initial Pt layer thickness associated with the bond coat. As the Pt layer thickness was increased from 0 to 5 mu m, resulting in increasing Pt concentration from 0 to 14.2 at.% in the B2-NiAl matrix and changing alpha-Cr precipitate fraction, the initiation fracture toughness (K-IC) was seen to rise from 6.4 to 8.5 MPa.m(1/2). R-curve behavior was observed in these coatings, with K-IC doubling for a crack propagation length of 2.5 mu m. The reasons for the toughening are analyzed to be a combination of material's microstructure (crack kinking and bridging due to the precipitates) as well as size effects, as the crack approaches closer to the free surface in a micro-scale sample.

El trabajo se desarrolló de octubre a marzo (1997-1998) en la hacienda Santa Rosa propiedad de la Universidad Nacional Agraria (UNA) en el departamento de Managua. Se evaluó el efecto de cuatro niveles de fertilización completa (12-30-10) y el testigo (sin fertilización) sobre la producción de semillas de Canavalia ensiformis L. Para esto se utilizó un diseño experimental de bloque completo al azar (BCA) y se estudió el efecto de un sólo factor (niveles de fertilización): Con tres repeticiones, formándose un total de 15 parcelas. El ensayo se realizó en un área total de 229.5 m2. Para evaluar las variables: rendimiento de semillas. cantidad promedio de semillas por vainas, largo promedio de vainas, número promedio de vainas por planta y altura de plantas (cm). Teniendo como parcela útil 3 m2. El estudio estadístico contempló el uso de análisis de varianza: El resultado del análisis no mostró diferencia significativa entre bloques ni tratamientos, sin descartar la existencia de diferencias reales. Al realizar el análisis de presupuestos parciales determinamos que el tratamiento de mayor utilidad con respecto al testigo es T2 (24.00 kg/ha) de fertilización 12-30-10. Debemos señalar que este incremento no justifica la aplicación de fertilizante en las condiciones en que se realizó el ensayo ya que la diferencia que se presenta es mínima. La no significancia entre tratamiento se atribuye probablemente al momento de aplicación del fertilizante (al momento de la siembra), que nos hace suponer no fue utilizado por las plantas para la producción de semillas, si no para otras actividades fisiológicas de las mismas.

El presente estudio se realizó en la finca el plantel propiedad de la universidad nacional agraria, está ubicada en el km.30 carretera Tipitapa- Masaya en junio del 2014. El estudio consistió en la. Comparación del efecto de manejo convencional versus manejo con buenas prácticas agrícolas (BPA) sobre la entomofauna, desarrollo, rendimiento, rentabilidad del cultivo de maíz(Zea mayz L). Los tratamientos a evaluar fueron manejo convencional y manejo con buenas prácticas agrícolas. Se realizaron muestreos dos veces por semana iniciando de la segunda semana después de la germinación, donde se seleccionaron cinco puntos para un total de 50 plantas muestreadas para cada uno de los sistemas de manejo, se contabilizaba el número de larvas por plantas encontrados y el % de plantas dañadas por el gusano cogollero (Spodoptera frugiperda Smith).También se identificaron 31 familias y 11 órdenes de insectos en el manejo con (BPA) y 26 familias y 9 órdenes en el manejo convencional. Las larvas por plantas de gusano cogollero y su daño al cultivo de maíz se presentó más en el sistema de manejo convencional con un 84 % de daño a los 35 dds, también se encontró un nivel alto poblacional de larvas de cogollero a los 65 dds, mientras que en manejo con buenas prácticas agrícolas el % de plantas dañadas y el porcentaje de plantas con larva de gusano cogollero fue menor. Según los resultados obtenidos de los dos tratamientos en estudio sobre las variables agronómicas, altura, área foliar, numero de hojas y diámetro del tallo, indican que no se encontraron diferencias significativas entre ellas, pero que sí se mostró que en el manejo convencional las plantas tendieron a crecer un poco más que el sistema de manejo de (BPA). Con respecto al rendimiento el tratamiento que presentó el mejor rendimiento fue el sistema de manejo con buenas prácticas agrícolas con 6,134. 40 kg/h, y con un menor rendimiento el tratamiento de manejo convencional con 3,855.28 kg/h. logrando obtener un beneficio neto mayor en el sistema de manejo con buenas prácticas agrícolas, $ 1,285.86.

Em cumprimento ao disposto no art. 30 da Lei nº 12.527, de 2011, a Câmara dos Deputados apresenta à sociedade brasileira seu primeiro relatório consolidado sobre a aplicação da Lei de Acesso a Informação – LAI. Este relatório é dividido em três seções e um apêndice metodológico. A primeira seção traz informações e dados estatísticos sobre as solicitações de acesso a informação recebidas pela Câmara dos Deputados entre os dias 16/05/2012, data de início de vigência da LAI, e 30/04/2013. Além de tabela específica sobre solicitações de informação recebidas, atendidas e indeferidas, são apresentados dados consolidados sobre a distribuição temática dos requerimentos, as razões para indeferimento e a distribuição dos prazos de atendimento das solicitações.
