A saudável interação entre o indivíduo e o meio depende do alinhamento entre a dinâmica fisiológica do primeiro e os periódicos movimentos da natureza. A interação entre tais ritmos por sua vez constitui-se em base e derivação do processo de evolução. O comprometimento de tal alinhamento representa um risco para a sobrevivência das espécies. Neste contexto, os organismos alinham seus ritmos fisiológicos a diferentes ciclos externos. Desta forma, ciclos endógenos são coordenados por relógios biológicos que determinam em nosso organismo, específicos ritmos em fase com a natureza, tais como ritmos circadianos (RC), cujo período aproxima-se de 24 horas. O peso corporal, a ingestão de alimentos e o consumo de energia são processos caracterizados pelo RC e a obesidade está associada a uma dessincronização deste processo. A modulação do RC é resultado da expressão dos clock gens CLOCK e BMAL1 que formam um heterodímero responsável pela transcrição gênica de Per1, Per2, Per3, Cry1 e Cry2. As proteínas codificadas por estes genes, uma vez sintetizadas, formam dímeros (PER-CRY) no citoplasma que, a partir de determinada concentração, retornam ao núcleo, bloqueando a ação do heterodímero CLOCK/BMAL1 na transcrição dos próprios genes, formando assim uma alça de retroalimentação negativa de transcrição e tradução. Estes genes asseguram a periodicidade e são significativamente expressos no núcleo supraquiasmático (SCN) do hipotálamo. Para estudar esse processo em camundongos normais e hiperalimentados, saciados e em estado de fome, foi utilizado um método de registro do comportamento alimentar baseado no som produzido pela alimentação dos animais, e a correlação destes estados metabólicos com a expressão de CLOCK, BMAL1, Per1, Per2, Per3, bem como das proteínas Cry1 e Cry2 no SCN, por análise de imagens obtidas em microscopia confocal. Camundongos suíços controle em estado de fome (CF) e saciados (CS) foram comparados com animais hiperalimentados com fome (HF) e saciados (HS). Nenhum grupo demonstrou diferença nos conteúdos CLOCK e BMAL1, indicando capacidade potencial para modular os ritmos biológicos. No entanto, as proteínas Per1, Per2, Per3 e Cry1 apresentaram menor expressão no grupo CS, mostrando uma diferença significativa quando comparados com o grupo CF (P<0,05), diferença esta não encontrada na comparação entre os grupos HF e HS. A quantidade de proteína Cry2 não foi diferente na mesma comparação. Os resultados do estudo indicaram que as alterações dos ritmos endógenos e exógenos, refletido pelo comportamento hiperfágico observado em camundongos hiperalimentados, pode ser devido a um defeito no mecanismo de feedback negativo associado ao dímero Cry-Per, que não bloqueia a transcrição de Per1 Per2, Per3 e Cry1 pelo heterodímero CLOCK-BMAL1.

Transparent and translucent SnO2 aerogels with high specific surface area (>300m(2)/g) have been prepared by sol-gel process using tetra(n-butoxy)tin(IV) as a starting compound, and supercritical drying technique for solvent extraction. Light scattering measurements reveal that the polymeric cluster size distribution in sol system is gradually broadened during sol-gel transition. SEM images show that the aerogels are made up of the cottonlike oxide agglomerates with a large number of Pores. TEM images show that these aerogels seem to be self-similar at different magnifications. Their pore size distribution is pretty wide ranging, from mesopore to macropore especially for that of translucent aerogel. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Grain boundaries and defect lines in graphene are intensively studied for their novel electronic and magnetic properties. However, there is not a complete comprehension of the appearance of localized states along these defects. Graphene grain boundaries are herein seen as the outcome of matching two semi-infinite graphene sheets with different edges. We classify the energy spectra of grain boundaries into three different types, directly related to the combination of the four basic classes of spectra of graphene edges. From the specific geometry of the grains, we are able to obtain the band structure and the number of localized states close to the Fermi energy. This provides a new understanding of states localized at grain boundaries, showing that they are derived from the edge states of graphene. Such knowledge is crucial for the ultimate tailoring of electronic and optoelectronic applications.

利用飞秒激光对ZnO晶体进行辐照,对辐照前后的晶体样品进行发光光谱及拉曼光谱检测。辐照后发光光谱的某些发光峰强度有明显增强,但未产生新的发光峰,表明没有新的缺陷结构产生,但晶体内锌空位、间隙位锌、间隙位缺陷浓度增加。拉曼光谱结果表明,辐照后ZnO晶体未产生相变,但随着辐照激光功率的增大,拉曼峰327 cm-1,437 cm-1强度明显减弱,表明在飞秒激光辐照作用下氧化锌的结晶程度下降。但574 cm-1峰值却随着辐照功率的增大而变大,分析表明该拉曼峰很可能是由于晶体内间隙位缺陷所致。同时实验过程中观察到飞

We report on photoinduced second-harmonic generation (SHG) in chalcogenide glasses. Fundamental and second-harmonic waves from a nanosecond pulsed Nd:YAG laser were used to induce second-order nonlinearity in chalcogenide glasses. The magnitude of SHG in 20Ge . 20As . 60S glass was 10(4) larger than that of tellurite glass with a composition of 15Nb(2)O(5) . 85TeO(2) (mol.%). Moreover, no apparent decay of photoinduced SHG in 20Ge . 20As . 60S glass was observed after optical poling at room temperature. We suggest that the large and stable value of X-(2) is due to the induced defect structures and large X-(3) of the chalcogenide glasses. (C) 2001 Optical Society of America

Cr-doped and Mg, Cr-codoped Al2O3 crystals were grown by Czochralski method. The latter has a broad absorption peak in 900-1600nm region. We investigated the change of the absorption band with annealing under different atmospheres or temperatures. Through establishing a structure defect model, we successfully interpreted all the experiment results and confirmed that the extremely broad infrared absorption band belonged to Cr4+, which should occupy the octahedral sites in Al2O3.

采用提拉法(CZ)生长了质量优异的Tm:YAG晶体.部分晶片在1000℃的空气气氛中退火25h.借助光学显微镜、扫描电子显微镜(SEM),结合化学腐蚀法,对Tm:YAG晶体退火前后(111)面的缺陷特征进行了研究.Tm:YAG晶体(111)面的位错腐蚀坑呈三角形.在偏光显微镜下观察了退火前后Tm:YAG晶体(111)面的应力双折射.同时应用高分辨X射线衍射法测定了晶体的完整性.实验结果表明,长时间空气气氛下高温退火有效降低了晶体中总的位错密度,提高了晶体质量.

本文描述使用温梯法(TGT)生长(1-↑102)方向的白宝石单晶,应用X射线双晶摇摆曲线(XRC)测定了晶体内部的完整性,再利用KOH熔体腐蚀出样品的r面(1-↑102)上的位错蚀坑,借助扫描电子显微镜(SEM)进行观察,发现r面白宝石的位错腐蚀坑呈等腰三角形,并且有台阶状结构,并分析了位错的成因。

The twin defects in Ce:YAP were investigated by using synchrotron radiation topography and etch figures. The results show that the twins are {101} and {121} types, and the exchange of neighboring lattice parameters is considered to be the intrinsic factor for twining. Based on such analysis, the twin structure model was established. Otherwise, the growth experiment results show that the abrupt change of growth rate during shoulder formation tends to cause twining.

Laser conditioning effects of the HfO2/SiO2 antireflective (AR) coatings at 1064 nm and the accumulation effects of multishot laser radiation were investigated. The HfO2/SiO2 AR coatings were prepared by E-beam evaporation (EBE). The singleshot and multi-shot laser induced damage threshold was detected following ISO standard 11254-1.2, and the laser conditioning was conducted by three-step raster scanning method. It was found that the single-shot LIDT and multi-shot LIDT was almost the same. The damage mostly > 80% occurred in the first shot under multi-shot laser radiation, and after that the damage occurring probability plummeted to < 5%. There was no obvious enhancement of the laser damage resistance for both the single-shot and multi-shot laser radiation of the AR coatings after laser conditioning. A Nomarski microscope was employed to map the damage morphology, and it found that the damage behavior is defect-initiated for both unconditioned and conditioned samples. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. Y2O3/SiO2 coatings were deposited on fused silica by electron beam evaporation. A continuous wave CO2 laser was used to condition parts of the prepared samples at different scanning speeds in the air. LAMBDA 900 spectrometer was used to investigate the changes of the transmittance and residual reflection spectrum. A Nomarski microscope under dark field was used to examine the changes of the micro defect density. The changes of the surface roughness and the microstructure of the film before and after conditioning were investigated by AFM and X-ray diffraction, respectively. We found that laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of the films conditioning at 30 mm/s scanning speed was increased by more than a factor of 3 over the thresholds of the as-deposited films. The conditioning effect was correlated with an irradiation-induced decrease of the defect density and absorption of the films. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

By introducing the scattering probability of a subsurface defect (SSD) and statistical distribution functions of SSD radius, refractive index, and position, we derive an extended bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) from the Jones scattering matrix. This function is applicable to the calculation for comparison with measurement of polarized light-scattering resulting from a SSD. A numerical calculation of the extended BRDF for the case of p-polarized incident light was performed by means of the Monte Carlo method. Our numerical results indicate that the extended BRDF strongly depends on the light incidence angle, the light scattering angle, and the out-of-plane azimuth angle. We observe a 180 degrees symmetry with respect to the azimuth angle. We further investigate the influence of the SSD density, the substrate refractive index, and the statistical distributions of the SSD radius and refractive index on the extended BRDF. For transparent substrates, we also find the dependence of the extended BRDF on the SSD positions. (c) 2006 Optical Society of America.

利用电子束热蒸发方法在K9玻璃基底上沉积氧化锆薄膜,并对其中一些样品用低能O2^+进行了后处理.采用表面热透镜技术测量薄膜样品表面弱吸收,采用显微镜观察样品离子后处理前后的显微缺陷密度.测试结果表明:经离子后处理样品表面的缺陷密度从18.6/mm^2降低到6.2/mm^2,且其激光损伤阈值从15.9 J/cm^2提高到23.1 J/cm^2,样品的平均吸收率从处理前的1.147×10^-4降低到处理后的9.56×10^-5.通过对处理前后样品的表面微缺陷密度、吸收率及损伤形貌等的分析发现:离子后处理可以降

The origin, character, analysis and treatment of subsurface damage (SSD) were summarized in this paper. SSD, which was introduced to substrates by manufacture processes, may bring about the decrease of laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of substrates and thin films. Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods for the measurement of SSD were used extensively because of their conveniences and reliabilities. The principle, experimental setup and some other technological details were given for total internal reflection microscopy (TIRM), high-frequency scanning acoustic microscopy (HFSAM) and laser-modulated scattering (LMS). However, the spatial resolution, probing depth and theoretic models of these NDE methods demanded further studies. Furthermore, effective surface treatments for minimizing or eliminating SSD were also presented in this paper. Both advantages and disadvantages of ion beam etching (IBE) and magnetorheological finishing (MRF) were discussed. Finally, the key problems and research directions of SSD were summarized. Laser conditioning effects of the dielectric mirror coatings with different designs were investigated. Simple quarter-wave ZrO2:Y2O3/SiO2 mirrors and half-wave SiO2 over-coated ZrO2:Y2O3/SiO2 mirror coatings were fabricated by E-beam evaporation (EBE). The absorbance of the samples before and after laser conditioning was measured by surface thermal lensing (STL) technology and the defects density was detected under Nomarski microscope. The enhancement of the laser damage resistance was found after laser conditioning. The dependence of the laser conditioning on the coating design was also observed and the over-coated sample obtained greatest enhancement, whereas the absorbance of the samples did not change obviously. During the sub-threshold fluence raster scanning, the minor damage about defects size was found and the assumption of pre-damage mechanism, based on the functional damage concept, was put forward. The improvement of the laser induced damage threshold (LIDT) was attributed to the benign damage of the defects and the dependence on the coating design owed to the damage growth behavior of different coating designs.
