The paper deals with some instances of exploiting the theme of the Sibyl in twentieth century literature, e.g. T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, J. Joyce’s Ulysses, M. Butor’s The Modifcation, P. Lagerkvist’s The Sibyl, W. Golding’s The Double Tongue.

La profesionalización del Trabajo Social. Los inicios en Navarra en la segunda mitad del siglo XX

En este trabajo fin de máster el objetivo general es profundizar en el proceso de cambio de la profesionalización del Trabajo Social en Navarra en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. En este sentido, se pretende comprender los por qués de una profesión que se ha ido fraguando, atendiendo y dando respuesta a diversas demandas sociales, muy diferentes en el tiempo. Se atenderá a las respuestas dadas a esas necesidades y al cómo se ha llegado al punto en el que actualmente se encuentra la disciplina. Este aporte es necesario para poder mirar al Trabajo Social desde una perspectiva histórica que permita reflexionar sobre los errores cometidos y a ensalzar los aciertos realizados en el proceso de profesionalización pudiendo trazar un camino adecuado que refuerce la profesión.

What the brain stem tells the frontal cortex. II. Role of the SC-MD-FEF pathway in corollary discharge.

One way we keep track of our movements is by monitoring corollary discharges or internal copies of movement commands. This study tested a hypothesis that the pathway from superior colliculus (SC) to mediodorsal thalamus (MD) to frontal eye field (FEF) carries a corollary discharge about saccades made into the contralateral visual field. We inactivated the MD relay node with muscimol in monkeys and measured corollary discharge deficits using a double-step task: two sequential saccades were made to the locations of briefly flashed targets. To make second saccades correctly, monkeys had to internally monitor their first saccades; therefore deficits in the corollary discharge representation of first saccades should disrupt second saccades. We found, first, that monkeys seemed to misjudge the amplitudes of their first saccades; this was revealed by systematic shifts in second saccade end points. Thus corollary discharge accuracy was impaired. Second, monkeys were less able to detect trial-by-trial variations in their first saccades; this was revealed by reduced compensatory changes in second saccade angles. Thus corollary discharge precision also was impaired. Both deficits occurred only when first saccades went into the contralateral visual field. Single-saccade generation was unaffected. Additional deficits occurred in reaction time and overall performance, but these were bilateral. We conclude that the SC-MD-FEF pathway conveys a corollary discharge used for coordinating sequential saccades and possibly for stabilizing vision across saccades. This pathway is the first elucidated in what may be a multilevel chain of corollary discharge circuits extending from the extraocular motoneurons up into cerebral cortex.

En este articulo ofrecemos una panorámica de los contenidos de los programas oficiales de matemáticas en la segunda enseñanza española de este siglo, así como las formas en las que un conjunto de libros de texto han presentado a los alumnos ciertos temas que hemos seleccionado: longitud de la circunferencia, área del circulo, área de la superficie esférica, volumen de la esfera, números negativos y noción de limite.

The divulgation of hygiene-sanitation matters at the start of Spanish radio (1933-1957)

The work analyse from a journalistic point of view the history radio divulgation of health during the Second Republic and the start of the Franco era. For it, printed sources of the health broadcast conferences have been analysed. The most frequently used radio genre was a combination of informative monologue and monologue opinion. Questions relating to maternal-juvenile health were the most disseminated. In general, the radio language employed responded to the needs for clarity, as well as adapting the message to the target audience. With Francoism, the political slogans were incorporated and the gender discussions were given more importance.

Energy levels and transition probabilities for nitrogen-like Fe xx

Energies of the 700 lowest levels in Fe XX have been obtained using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock method. Configuration interaction method on the basis set of transformed radial orbitals with variable parameters taking into account relativistic corrections in the Breit-Pauli approximation was used to crosscheck our presented results. Transition probabilities, oscillator and line strengths are presented for electric dipole (E1), electric quadrupole (E2) and magnetic dipole (M1) transitions among these levels. The total radiative transition probabilities from each level are also provided. Results are compared with data compiled by NIST and with other theoretical work.
