The power rating of wind turbines is constantly increasing; however, keeping the voltage rating at the low-voltage level results in high kilo-ampere currents. An alternative for increasing the power levels without raising the voltage level is provided by multiphase machines. Multiphase machines are used for instance in ship propulsion systems, aerospace applications, electric vehicles, and in other high-power applications including wind energy conversion systems. A machine model in an appropriate reference frame is required in order to design an efficient control for the electric drive. Modeling of multiphase machines poses a challenge because of the mutual couplings between the phases. Mutual couplings degrade the drive performance unless they are properly considered. In certain multiphase machines there is also a problem of high current harmonics, which are easily generated because of the small current path impedance of the harmonic components. However, multiphase machines provide special characteristics compared with the three-phase counterparts: Multiphase machines have a better fault tolerance, and are thus more robust. In addition, the controlled power can be divided among more inverter legs by increasing the number of phases. Moreover, the torque pulsation can be decreased and the harmonic frequency of the torque ripple increased by an appropriate multiphase configuration. By increasing the number of phases it is also possible to obtain more torque per RMS ampere for the same volume, and thus, increase the power density. In this doctoral thesis, a decoupled d–q model of double-star permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous machines is derived based on the inductance matrix diagonalization. The double-star machine is a special type of multiphase machines. Its armature consists of two three-phase winding sets, which are commonly displaced by 30 electrical degrees. In this study, the displacement angle between the sets is considered a parameter. The diagonalization of the inductance matrix results in a simplified model structure, in which the mutual couplings between the reference frames are eliminated. Moreover, the current harmonics are mapped into a reference frame, in which they can be easily controlled. The work also presents methods to determine the machine inductances by a finite-element analysis and by voltage-source inverters on-site. The derived model is validated by experimental results obtained with an example double-star interior PM (IPM) synchronous machine having the sets displaced by 30 electrical degrees. The derived transformation, and consequently, the decoupled d–q machine model, are shown to model the behavior of an actual machine with an acceptable accuracy. Thus, the proposed model is suitable to be used for the model-based control design of electric drives consisting of double-star IPM synchronous machines.

Työn tavoitteena oli tutkia asiakkaiden toimialojen muutoksen, esimerkiksi taantuman, vaikutuksia Mikpolis Oy:n puutekniikan myynnin kehitykseen aikajaksolla 2007–2014. Työssä tutustuttiin markkinoinnin ja talouden osa-alueisiin. Tutkimuksessa yrityksen asiakastiedoista muodostettiin useita arvoanalyysejä, joita tehtiin päätuoteryhmistä, tuotesegmenteistä, asiakkaista ja asiakkaiden toimialoista. Yrityksen sisäisiä tekijöitä tutkittiin SWOT -analyysillä ja havainnoimalla aiempia selvityksiä. Lisäksi haastateltiin asiakastoimialojen edustajia. Päätuoteryhmät myynnin määrän perusteella ovat NC-koneistuspalvelut, erityisesti lasikuitu- ja huonekaluteollisuuden segmenteissä, sekä puun testauspalvelut. Asiakkaat jaoteltiin A-, B- ja C-asiakkaisiin myyntimäärän suhteen. Huolestuttavan suuri osa avainasiakkaista on konkurssissa. Tavoiteltavat toimialat tulevaisuudessa ovat laivarakennus-, ajoneuvo- ja koneenrakennusteollisuus sekä koulutus ja testaustoiminta. Mikpolis Oy:llä parantamisen varaa on erityisesti markkinoinnissa ja investoinneissa. Asiakastoimialojen muutokset vaikuttavat yrityksen myyntiin, mutta yritys voi vaikuttaa asiaan sisäisillä tekijöillä, joita ovat markkinointi ja tuotetarjonta.

The pressure has grown to develop cost-effective emission reduction strategies in the Baltic Sea. The forthcoming stringent regulations of the International Maritime Organization for reducing harmful emissions of shipping in the Baltic Sea are causing increasing expenses for the operators. A market-based attitude towards pricing of economic incentives could be seen as a new approach for a successful application for the additional emission reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx). In this study the aim is to understand the phenomenon of environmentally differentiated port fees and its effects on shipping companies’ emission reduction investments. The goal is to examine empirically the real-life effects of the possible environmental differentiated port fee system and the effect of environmentally differentiated port fees on NOx reduction investments in the Baltic Sea. The research approach of this study is nomothetical. In this study research questions are answered by analyzing the broad database of the Baltic Sea fleet. Also the framework of theory is confirmed and plays an important role in analyzing the research problem. Existing investment costs of NOx emission reduction technology to ship owners are estimated and compared to investment costs with granted discounts added to the cash flows. The statistical analysis in this study is descriptive. The major statistic examination of this study is the calculation of the net present values of investments with different port fee scenarios. This is done to investigate if the NOx technology investments could be economically reasonable. Based on calculations it is clear that the effect of environmentally differentiated port fees is not adequate to compensate the total investment costs for NOx reduction. If the investment decision is made only with profitability considerations, sources will prefer to emission abatement as long as incomes from the given subsidy exceeds their abatement costs. Despite of the results, evidence was found that shipping companies are nevertheless willing to invest on voluntary emission abatement technology. In that case, investment decision could be made with criteria of, for example, sustainable strategy or brand image. Combined fairway and port fee system or governmental regulations and recommendation could also function as additional incentives to compensate the investment costs. Also, the results imply that the use of NPV is not necessarily the best method to evaluate environmental investments. If the calculations would be done with more environmental methods the results would probably be different.

The role of catecholamines in the distribution of intrarenal blood flow and in single-nephron glomerular filtration rate (SNGFR) was evaluated in anesthetized Wistar rats by the Hanssen technique. Epinephrine (EPI) and norepinephrine (NOR) were infused to produce elevations of 20-30 mmHg in mean arterial pressure. Superficial and juxtamedullary nephron perfusion and filtration were determined by the presence of Prussian blue dye. In the control group, 100% of the nephrons presented a homogeneous pattern of perfusion and filtration. In contrast, a heterogeneous distribution of the dye was found even in the larger arteries (arciform and radial), indicating variable perfusion and filtration in both superficial and juxtamedullary nephrons. The effects of EPI and NOR were also evaluated in the superficial cortex by the micropuncture technique in two additional groups of Munich-Wistar rats. Mean SNGFR was 27% and 54% lower in the EPI- and NOR-treated groups, respectively. No change in mean intraglomerular hydraulic pressure was observed after EPI or NOR infusion in spite of a highly scattered pattern, indicating an important variability in perfusion along the superficial cortex, and/or different sensitivity of the pre- and post-glomerular arterioles. The present data suggest that EPI and NOR may affect intrarenal hemodynamics by modifying perfusion and filtration in both superficial and juxtamedullary glomeruli and not by shifting blood flow from superficial to juxtamedullary nephrons. The heterogeneous pattern of perfusion was a consequence of differential vasoconstriction along the intrarenal arteries, probably due to different density and/or sensitivity of the adrenergic receptor subtypes present in the intrarenal vascular tree.

Whole body oxygen consumption and some hemolymph parameters such as pH, partial pressure of gases, level of ions and lactate were measured in the estuarine crab Chasmagnathus granulata after both acute (96 h) and chronic (2 weeks) exposure to cadmium at concentrations ranging from 0.4 to 6.3 mg/l. In all instances, the crabs developed hemolymph acidosis, but no respiratory (increased PCO2) or lactate increases were evident. Hemolymph levels of sodium and calcium were always increased by cadmium exposure. The chronic toxicity of cadmium was enhanced at 12‰ salinity, even causing a significantly higher mortality in comparison with the higher salinity (30‰) used. A general metabolic arrest took place at 12‰ salinity in the crabs chronically exposed to cadmium, as indicated by decreases of oxygen consumption and PCO2, an increase of PO2, along with no changes in lactate levels. These imbalances were associated with severe necrosis and telangiectasia in the respiratory gills, probably leading to respiratory impairment and finally histotoxic hypoxia and death of the animals.

Kaivostoimintaan liittyy myönteisiä odotuksia esimerkiksi aluetaloudellisesti, mutta kaivostoiminnalla on myös kielteisiä vaikutuksia, esimerkkinä maiseman muutos. Kaivosteollisuus ja alan yhteiskuntavastuu ovat muodostuneet ajankohtaisiksi aiheiksi Suomessa. Sidosryhmävuoropuhelu kuuluu kaivannaisyritysten yhteiskuntavastuuseen. Kaivannaisyritysten tulee tiedottaa toiminnastaan ja käydä vuoropuhelua paikallisten sidosryhmiensä kanssa. Näillä keinoin yritysten on mahdollista saavuttaa hyväksyttävyys toiminnalleen, mikä on tärkeää kaivannaisyrityksille. Kaivosyritysten yhteiskuntavastuu on erilainen kehittyvässä maassa ja teollisuusmaassa. Kehittyvässä maassa kaivosyritys voi osallistua esimerkiksi terveydenhoitopalvelujen rahoittamiseen kun teollisuusmaissa nämä palvelut ovat usein valtion tarjoamia. Tässä työssä tarkastellaan kaivannaisyritysten yhteiskuntavastuuta Pohjois-Suomessa sijaitsevassa Sodankylän kunnassa. Työssä tutkitaan, mitä sosiaalisia ja alueellisia muutoksia kunnassa on tapahtunut kaivosteollisuuden kasvun aikana sekä mitä Sodankylässä toimivien kaivannaisyritysten yhteiskuntavastuu sisältää paikallisten sidosryhmien näkökulmasta. Samalla tutkitaan kaivannaisyritysten käymää sidosryhmävuoropuhelua paikallisten sidosryhmien näkökulmasta sekä selvitetään, ovatko malminetsintä- ja kaivosyritykset saavuttaneet hyväksyttävyyden toiminnalleen Sodankylässä. Tutkimusmenetelmiin kuuluvat media-analyysi paikallislehden uutisartikkeleista vuosilta 2007–2013, sidosryhmähaastattelut kaivannaisyritysten paikallisille sidosryhmille sekä karttapohjainen kuntakysely, joka toteutettiin osallistavaa paikkatietomenetelmää käyttäen. Kaivannaisteollisuuden kasvu koettiin myönteisesti, sillä kaivannaisteollisuus on luonut taloudellista kasvua ja Sodankylän kunta on elävöitynyt. Kielteisiä kaivannaisteollisuuden kasvun synnyttämiä muutoksia koettiin olevan liikenteen kasvu pääteillä sekä kaivokselta syntyvät meluhaitat. Malminetsintäyritysten ja kaivosyritysten sidosryhmävuoropuhelu koettiin pääosin riittävänä paikallisten sidosryhmien näkökulmasta. Kuitenkin erityisesti kaivosyrityksiltä kaivattiin jatkuvaa ja avointa viestintää. Kaivannaisyritysten yhteiskuntavastuutoiminta Sodankylässä on sisältänyt muun muassa urheilukisojen sponsorointia. Osa sodankyläläisistä haluaisi, että kaivannaisyritykset osallistuisivat enemmän kunnan kehittämiseen ja kaivosvero nähtiin yhtenä ratkaisuna sekä kunnan virkamiesten että asukkaiden keskuudessa. Kaivannaistoiminta oli pääosin hyväksyttyä toimintaa sen aluetaloudellisten vaikutusten vuoksi. Kuitenkin kaivannaistoiminnan koetaan myös saastuttavan Lapin luontoa, minkä vuoksi kaivannaistoiminnan hyväksyttävyys ei ollut yksimielistä.

Short sea shipping is an important part of the European economy and an alternative to road transport of goods in Europe. It represents an intermodal transport combination of sea and land on a Door-to-Door basis, and it aims to develop more sustainable transport network with the least negative impacts by the transport modes. This Master’s thesis addresses the development of short sea shipping transportation chains at Helsinki-Tallinn route. The Master´s thesis explores the development of short sea shipping at Helsinki-Tallinn route by analyzing the shipping costs per unit transported by different ship types and sizes between port of Helsinki-Vuosaari harbour and port of Tallinn-Muuga harbour, and examining the possibility of Ro-Ro traffic as well. The study is qualitative-quantitative method and it is based on a case study, data is collected from secondary and primary sources, and mixed methods analysis is used to implement the interviews and observations results with the databases analysis. In the thesis factors affecting on short sea shipping are explored and analyzed, also the possibility of Ro-Ro shipping is examined, by comparing the shipping cost and the environmental impact of different ships like container ships, Ropax, and CONRO ships. The finding of this research shows the importance of time at port and utilization as a shipping cost determinants, the relationship between ship type and costing, and the possibility of Ro-Ro shipping.

Several studies have indicated that depressive states may lead to hypokinesia with diminished metabolic rate and energy use. Hypokinesia associated with certain eating behaviors may lead to an unfavorable energy balance that can contribute to the emergence and prevalence of obesity among children and adults. The purpose of the present study was to examine the possibility of reducing depression inventory scores in female adolescents with third-degree obesity while testing the effectiveness of different exercise programs in reducing anxiety and depression scores. The sample consisted of 40 female subjects (mean age 16 ± 1.56 years) divided into 4 groups (aerobic training, anaerobic training, leisure activities, and control). Subjects had a body mass index of 95% or more in relation to the 50th percentile. The aerobic program consisted of three ergometric bicycle sessions per week over a 3-month period (12 weeks) and the activities were prescribed after determining the anaerobic ventilatory threshold (VO2 threshold). Anaerobic training was based on the Wingate anaerobic power test. The leisure program consisted of a varied range of activities (games, exercises, etc.). A nutritionist interviewed the members of these two groups and the control group every week in order to adapt them to the nutritional guidelines proposed for the study. The study showed that all three programs (aerobic exercise, anaerobic exercise and leisure activities) were effective in reducing body mass. However, we found a significant reduction when analyzing the depression scores only for aerobic exercise (18.9 ± 9.33 to 10.6 ± 9.56 or 43.9%) but no significant alterations for anaerobic exercise (11.36 ± 5.23 to 9.63 ± 4.78 or 15.22%) and leisure (17.28 ± 7.55 to 15.07 ± 7.54 or 12.78%), thus indicating that in principle this type of activity could be included to improve emotional well-being of obese adolescent girls.

The objective of this thesis was to study value creation through sponsor-ship in a new emerging electronic sports environment. Sub-questions were formulated which helped in finding answers to the main research question. Theory of traditional sports and practice of electronic sports were compared with each other in order to find out how theories of tradi-tional sports fare in the new environment. B2B-relationship model of Actors, resources and activities is used in this thesis to help in clarifying the different variables used in electronic sports sponsorship environment. The empirical research was conducted via interviews with the managers working in electronic sports environment. One of the main conclusions is that relationship management is really important.. Actors in electronic sports need to find and create win-win-win situations. This means that they need to benefit the actors in sponsoring relationship and also the community.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of processing and roasting on the antioxidant activity of coffee brews. Brews prepared with light, medium and dark roasted coffees were analyzed. The pH, total solids content, polyphenols content, reducing substances and chlorogenic acids content were determined. The antioxidant activity of aqueous extracts, the guaicol decolorizing and the capacity to inhibit lipid peroxidation were also analyzed. The antioxidant activity of coffee brews were concentration-dependent. A progressive antioxidant activity and polyphenols content was observed decreasing with roasting. The light roasted coffee showed the highest antioxidant activity and dark roasted coffee showed the lowest antioxidant activity. The results indicate that the ingestion of coffee brews prepared with light and medium roasted coffees might protect cells from oxidative stress damages.
