Calorimetry of hydrogen desorption from a-Si nanoparticles

The process of hydrogen desorption from amorphous silicon (a-Si) nanoparticles grown by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) has been analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), mass spectrometry, and infrared spectroscopy, with the aim of quantifying the energy exchanged. Two exothermic peaks centered at 330 and 410 C have been detected with energies per H atom of about 50 meV. This value has been compared with the results of theoretical calculations and is found to agree with the dissociation energy of Si-H groups of about 3.25 eV per H atom, provided that the formation energy per dangling bond in a-Si is about 1.15 eV. It is shown that this result is valid for a-Si:H films, too.

Electronic structure and properties of Cu2O

The structural and electronic properties of Cu2O have been investigated using the periodic Hartree-Fock method and a posteriori density-functional corrections. The lattice parameter, bulk modulus, and elastic constants have been calculated. The electronic structure of and bonding in Cu2O are analyzed and compared with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra, showing a good agreement for the valence-band states. To check the quality of the calculated electron density, static structure factors and Compton profiles have been calculated, showing a good agreement with the available experimental data. The effective electron and hole masses have been evaluated for Cu2O at the center of the Brillouin zone. The calculated interaction energy between the two interpenetrated frameworks in the cuprite structure is estimated to be around -6.0 kcal/mol per Cu2O formula. The bonding between the two independent frameworks has been analyzed using a bimolecular model and the results indicate an important role of d10-d10 type interactions between copper atoms.

Theoretical approach to the magnetostructural correlations in spin-Peierls compound CuGeO3

A theoretical density-functional study has been carried out to analyze the exchange coupling in the chains of CuGeO3 using discrete models. The results show a good agreement with the experimental exchange coupling constant (J) together with a strong dependence of J with the Cu-O-Cu angle. The calculation of the J values for a distorted model indicates a larger degree of dimerization than those reported previously.

Se presenta experiencia educativa que propone la construcci??n de un mercadillo y la participaci??n de la comunidad educativa para potenciar la educaci??n en valores entre el alumnado. Se realiza en el CEIP Mar??n Ocete en Alfacar, Granada. El mercadillo est?? organizado por distintos talleres a modo de 'tiendas'. Las distintas tiendas son: de la solidaridad, de las tradiciones y costumbres, de la justicia, de la salud y del medio ambiente, de la alegr??a, de la amistad, del esfuerzo, del respeto y de la paz.

Minor??as ??tnicas y educaci??n democr??tica : hacia el interculturalismo

Este trabajo presenta algunos criterios generales que orientan una propuesta de educaci??n intercultural, tambi??n se analizan las causas que en la actualidad la hacen necesaria en los centros. Para el autor, la educaci??n intercultural puede ser una respuesta a las situaciones sociales de pluralidad cultural en un espacio geopol??tico delimitado. La escuela pluralista o la educaci??n multicultural pretende facilitar la intercomunicaci??n y la comprensi??n enre los miembros de todas las culturas en contacto, fundamentalmente se trata de transcender la idea de multiculturalismo, en tanto que coexistencia de culturas diversas, para adentrarse por las v??as del interculturalismo, entendido como di logo y reconocimiento mutuo entre las distintas culturas.
