In the frame of the Ukrainian crisis the question of spheres of influence has returned to political discourse. This may be an awkward subject, but what if we only deny the existence of such power constellations as spheres of influence? Do spheres of influence exist, or are they relics of history, and mere rhetoric? And if they exist, where can we find them? The hypothesis in this article is that instead of being a tangible reality, spheres of influence are obscure and contested political constructions, which nevertheless can have an impact on political behaviour. To demonstrate this, the article will first introduce a few examples of the current use of the concept. Secondly, a few remarks follow concerning the different IR schools of thought, and conceptual history as a method. Next, the article turns to discussing a few dictionaries and the empirical material for the present inquiry, which consists of recent textbooks, i.e. the current political science curriculum in one particular university, at the University of Tampere, Finland. More empirical cases deal with the division of Africa, the post-WWII situation, and the Hungarian revolution of 1956.

Despite the impact of neo-liberal agendas, the issue of regulation remains central to our understanding of economic processes, and particularly employment. The concept of regulation is often reduced to a narrowly defined set of functions performed by the state. However, processes of regulation involve a much wider range of sites and actors, within and beyond the boundaries of the state. This paper presents a framework for the analysis of the panoply of regulatory actors and the complex relations between them, including the shifting boundaries between regulatory spaces. The paper concludes with some illustrative examples of shifting regulatory structures within Sweden.

Using the concept of time travel as a contextual and narrative tool, the author explores themes of love, loss and growth after trauma. Reflections relate primarily to the experience of conducting the qualitative research method of autoethnography. Opening with consideration of existing work (Yoga and Loss: An Autoethnographical Exploration of Grief, Mind, and Body), discussion moves on to academic thought on mental time travel, and personal transformation, culminating in the construction of a new memory combining past, present, and future.

Evidence-based management of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) in school-age children requires putting into practice the best and most current research findings, including evidence that early identification, self-management, prevention of secondary disability, and enhanced participation are the most appropriate foci of school-based occupational therapy. Partnering for Change (P4C) is a new school-based intervention based upon these principles that has been developed and evaluated in Ontario, Canada over an 8-year period. Our experience to date indicates that its implementation in schools is highly complex with involvement of multiple stakeholders across health and education sectors. In this paper, we describe and reflect upon our team’s experience in using community-based participatory action research, knowledge translation, and implementation science to transform evidence-informed practice with children who have DCD.

The present study seeks to weave together reflections on the role of the school in the development of activities of digital literacy. We consider, principally, the relation to the relevance of the critical use of social networks, and we chose, in this article, an analysis of Twitter. Twitter is a mixture of social networking and microblogging and, apparently, is made up of bits of several genres like news story, leaflet, advertising, citation, which were modified to suit the needs of communication found in social networking. The research is justified owing to the importance of relating an ascendant genre with the concept of multi-modality and with school practice. The objective of the study is to verify how the school can utilize twitter in activities of developing digital literacy. Dionysius (2011), Bazerman (2007), Street (2014), Soares (2004) and Buzato (2009) are the principal theoretical referents of this study. First, we define literacy and digital literacy so that, secondly, by means of an analysis of tweets collected on February 22, 2014, we can verify what literacies are used in twitter. We verified that this genre offers several possibilities for the development of literacies and teaching of genres integrated to new social demands. The school has a social responsibility with the citizens it is forming and, therefore, it should deliver to everyone tools to act and interact in the real world and therefore critical work with digital literacy is essential.  KEYWORDS: Digital literacy. Teaching. Twitter.

This article, based on theoretical and bibliographic assumptions, aims to discuss the concept of syntactic and semantic (in)dependence  with respect to the canonical processes of subordination and coordination. It is commonly stated that the coordinate clauses are independent and the subordinate ones are dependent. This correlation, however, has received criticism over time, especially in modern works. After all, it is not always clear whether the (in)dependence is of semantic or syntactic basis. In addition, there are borderline cases in which it is not possible to clearly define if a structure has all the features of a subordinate or coordinate construction. The proposal developed by Usage-Based Functional Linguistics resizes the criterion of (in)dependence, comparing it with the embedding in a scalar and gradient proposal. Based on the theory of prototypes, the Usage-Based Functional Linguistics presents a descriptive alternative to the question of (in)dependence, more faithful to the effective use of language, as it becomes evident in the researches carried out by Brazilian and foreign authors.

Participatory evaluation and participatory action research (PAR) are increasingly used in community-based programs and initiatives and there is a growing acknowledgement of their value. These methodologies focus more on knowledge generated and constructed through lived experience than through social science (Vanderplaat 1995). The scientific ideal of objectivity is usually rejected in favour of a holistic approach that acknowledges and takes into account the diverse perspectives, values and interpretations of participants and evaluation professionals. However, evaluation rigour need not be lost in this approach. Increasing the rigour and trustworthiness of participatory evaluations and PAR increases the likelihood that results are seen as credible and are used to continually improve programs and policies.----- Drawing on learnings and critical reflections about the use of feminist and participatory forms of evaluation and PAR over a 10-year period, significant sources of rigour identified include:----- • participation and communication methods that develop relations of mutual trust and open communication----- • using multiple theories and methodologies, multiple sources of data, and multiple methods of data collection----- • ongoing meta-evaluation and critical reflection----- • critically assessing the intended and unintended impacts of evaluations, using relevant theoretical models----- • using rigorous data analysis and reporting processes----- • participant reviews of evaluation case studies, impact assessments and reports.

Heteronormative discourses provide the most common lens through which sexuality is understood within university curricula. This means that sexuality is discussed in terms of categories of identity, with heterosexuality accorded primacy while all 'others' are indeed 'othered'. This article draws on research carried out by the authors in a core first year university ethics class, in which a fictional text was introduced with the intention of unpacking these discourses. An ethnographic study was undertaken where both students and teachers engaged in discussions over, and personal written reflections on, the textual content. In reporting the results of that study this article uses a post-structural framework to identify how classroom and textual discourses might be used to break down socially constructed categories of sexuality and students' conceptualisations of non-heterosexual behaviour. It was found that engaging in discussion in the context of the fictional text allowed some students to begin to recognise their own heteronormative views and engage in an informed critique of them.

Attracting and retaining quality teachers to rural and remote areas has been a challenge over the last decade. Many preservice teachers are reluctant to experience a rural and remote practicum and may not consider applying to teach in such areas when they graduate. Education departments and universities need to explore innovative ways that will encourage graduates to consider undertaking a teaching position in the bush. As a way forward, preservice teachers from a regional campus of a Queensland University were invited to participate in a six-day rural experience entitled ‘Over the Hill’ that included being billeted with local families, participating in community activities and observing and teaching in classrooms. Fifteen preservice teachers were accompanied by two university academics who returned to work in a classroom as teacher for their own rural and remote professional experience. The aim of this qualitative study was to explore and describe the perceptions of a rural and remote teaching experience from the perspectives of the preservice teachers, the accompanying academics and the school staff hosting the program. Data were collected from the preservice teachers and accompanying academics in the form of written reflections while fourteen school staff completed a related questionnaire. The results indicated that a six-day rural and remote teaching program can provide professional benefits for all involved, preservice teachers, accompanying academics and the school staff hosting the program. Indeed, this study indicates that short experiences such as “Over the Hill” not only assist preservice teachers to make informed decisions about teaching in rural and remote areas but can provide professional benefits for accompanying academics and the schools.
