A crescente tendencia no acesso móvel tem sido potenciada pela tecnologia IEEE 802.11. Contudo, estas redes têm alcance rádio limitado. Para a extensão da sua cobertura é possível recorrer a redes emalhadas sem fios baseadas na tecnologia IEEE 802.11, com vantagem do ponto de vista do custo e da flexibilidade de instalação, face a soluções cabladas. Redes emalhadas sem fios constituídas por nós com apenas uma interface têm escalabilidade reduzida. A principal razão dessa limitação deve-se ao uso do mecanismo de acesso ao meio partilhado Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) em topologias multi-hop. Especificamente, o CSMA/CA não evita o problema do nó escondido levando ao aumento do número de colisões e correspondente degradação de desempenho com impacto direto no throughput e na latência. Com a redução da tecnologia rádio torna-se viável a utilização de múltiplos rádios por nó, sem com isso aumentar significativamente o custo da solução final de comunicações. A utilização de mais do que um rádio por nó de comuniações permite superar os problemas de desempenho inerentes ás redes formadas por nós com apenas um rádio. O objetivo desta tese, passa por desenvolver uma nova solução para redes emalhadas multi-cana, duar-radio, utilizando para isso novos mecanismos que complementam os mecanismos definidos no IEEE 802.11 para o estabelecimento de um Basic Service Set (BSS). A solução é baseada na solução WiFIX, um protocolo de routing para redes emalhadas de interface única e reutiliza os mecanismos já implementados nas redes IEEE 802.11 para difundir métricas que permitam à rede escalar de forma eficaz minimizando o impacto na performance. A rede multi-hop é formada por nós equipados com duas interfaces, organizados numa topologia hierárquica sobre múltiplas relações Access Point (AP) – Station (STA). Os resultados experimentais obtidos mostram a eficácia e o bom desempenho da solução proposta face à solução WiFIX original.

We propose a segmentation method based on the geometric representation of images as 2-D manifolds embedded in a higher dimensional space. The segmentation is formulated as a minimization problem, where the contours are described by a level set function and the objective functional corresponds to the surface of the image manifold. In this geometric framework, both data-fidelity and regularity terms of the segmentation are represented by a single functional that intrinsically aligns the gradients of the level set function with the gradients of the image and results in a segmentation criterion that exploits the directional information of image gradients to overcome image inhomogeneities and fragmented contours. The proposed formulation combines this robust alignment of gradients with attractive properties of previous methods developed in the same geometric framework: 1) the natural coupling of image channels proposed for anisotropic diffusion and 2) the ability of subjective surfaces to detect weak edges and close fragmented boundaries. The potential of such a geometric approach lies in the general definition of Riemannian manifolds, which naturally generalizes existing segmentation methods (the geodesic active contours, the active contours without edges, and the robust edge integrator) to higher dimensional spaces, non-flat images, and feature spaces. Our experiments show that the proposed technique improves the segmentation of multi-channel images, images subject to inhomogeneities, and images characterized by geometric structures like ridges or valleys.

BACKGROUND: The yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe is frequently used as a model for studying the cell cycle. The cells are rod-shaped and divide by medial fission. The process of cell division, or cytokinesis, is controlled by a network of signaling proteins called the Septation Initiation Network (SIN); SIN proteins associate with the SPBs during nuclear division (mitosis). Some SIN proteins associate with both SPBs early in mitosis, and then display strongly asymmetric signal intensity at the SPBs in late mitosis, just before cytokinesis. This asymmetry is thought to be important for correct regulation of SIN signaling, and coordination of cytokinesis and mitosis. In order to study the dynamics of organelles or large protein complexes such as the spindle pole body (SPB), which have been labeled with a fluorescent protein tag in living cells, a number of the image analysis problems must be solved; the cell outline must be detected automatically, and the position and signal intensity associated with the structures of interest within the cell must be determined. RESULTS: We present a new 2D and 3D image analysis system that permits versatile and robust analysis of motile, fluorescently labeled structures in rod-shaped cells. We have designed an image analysis system that we have implemented as a user-friendly software package allowing the fast and robust image-analysis of large numbers of rod-shaped cells. We have developed new robust algorithms, which we combined with existing methodologies to facilitate fast and accurate analysis. Our software permits the detection and segmentation of rod-shaped cells in either static or dynamic (i.e. time lapse) multi-channel images. It enables tracking of two structures (for example SPBs) in two different image channels. For 2D or 3D static images, the locations of the structures are identified, and then intensity values are extracted together with several quantitative parameters, such as length, width, cell orientation, background fluorescence and the distance between the structures of interest. Furthermore, two kinds of kymographs of the tracked structures can be established, one representing the migration with respect to their relative position, the other representing their individual trajectories inside the cell. This software package, called "RodCellJ", allowed us to analyze a large number of S. pombe cells to understand the rules that govern SIN protein asymmetry. CONCLUSIONS: "RodCell" is freely available to the community as a package of several ImageJ plugins to simultaneously analyze the behavior of a large number of rod-shaped cells in an extensive manner. The integration of different image-processing techniques in a single package, as well as the development of novel algorithms does not only allow to speed up the analysis with respect to the usage of existing tools, but also accounts for higher accuracy. Its utility was demonstrated on both 2D and 3D static and dynamic images to study the septation initiation network of the yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. More generally, it can be used in any kind of biological context where fluorescent-protein labeled structures need to be analyzed in rod-shaped cells. A high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) seismic reflection system for small-scale targets in lacustrine settings has been developed. Its main characteristics include navigation and shot-triggering software that fires the seismic source at regular distance intervals (max. error of 0.25 m) with real-time control on navigation using differential GPS (Global Positioning System). Receiver positions are accurately calculated (error < 0.20 m) with the aid of GPS antennas attached to the end of each of three 24-channel streamers. Two telescopic booms hold the streamers at a distance of 7.5 m from each other. With a receiver spacing of 2.5 m, the bin dimension is 1.25 m in inline and 3.75 m in crossline direction. To test the system, we conducted a 3D survey of about 1 km(2) in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, over a complex fault zone. A 5-m shot spacing resulted in a nominal fold of 6. A double-chamber bubble-cancelling 15/15 in(3) air gun (40-650 Hz) operated at 80 bars and 1 m depth gave a signal penetration of 300 m below water bottom and a best vertical resolution of 1.1 m. Processing followed a conventional scheme, but had to be adapted to the high sampling rates, and our unconventional navigation data needed conversion to industry standards. The high-quality data enabled us to construct maps of seismic horizons and fault surfaces in three dimensions. The system proves to be well adapted to investigate complex structures by providing non-aliased images of reflectors with dips up to 30 degrees.

P130 A HIGH-RESOLUTION 2D/3D SEISMIC STUDY OF A THRUST FAULT ZONE IN LAKE GENEVA SWITZERLAND M. SCHEIDHAUER M. BERES D. DUPUY and F. MARILLIER Institute of Geophysics University of Lausanne 1015 Lausanne, Switzerland Summary A high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) seismic reflection survey has been conducted in Lake Geneva near the city of Lausanne Switzerland where the faulted molasse basement (Tertiary sandstones) is overlain by complex Quaternary sedimentary structures. Using a single 48-channel streamer an area of 1200 m x 600 m was surveyed in 10 days. With a 5-m shot spacing and a receiver spacing of 2.5 m in the inline direction and 7.5 m in the crossline direction, a 12-fold data coverage was achieved. A maximum penetration depth of ~150 m was achieved with a 15 cu. in. water gun operated at 140 bars. The multi-channel data allow the determination of an accurate velocity field for 3D processing, and they show particularly clean images of the fault zone and the overlying sediments in horizontal and vertical sections. In order to compare different sources, inline 55 was repeated with a 30/30 and a 15/15 cu. in. double-chamber air gun (Mini GI) operated at 100 and 80 bars, respectively. A maximum penetration depth of ~450 m was achieved with this source.

The hydrogeological properties and responses of a productive aquifer in northeastern Switzerland are investigated. For this purpose, 3D crosshole electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is used to define the main lithological structures within the aquifer (through static inversion) and to monitor the water infiltration from an adjacent river. During precipitation events and subsequent river flooding, the river water resistivity increases. As a consequence, the electrical characteristics of the infiltrating water can be used as a natural tracer to delineate preferential flow paths and flow velocities. The focus is primarily on the experiment installation, data collection strategy, and the structural characterization of the site and a brief overview of the ERT monitoring results. The monitoring system comprises 18 boreholes each equipped with 10 electrodes straddling the entire thickness of the gravel aquifer. A multi-channel resistivity system programmed to cycle through various four-point electrode configurations of the 180 electrodes in a rolling sequence allows for the measurement of approximately 15,500 apparent resistivity values every 7 h on a continuous basis. The 3D static ERT inversion of data acquired under stable hydrological conditions provides a base model for future time-lapse inversion studies and the means to investigate the resolving capability of our acquisition scheme. In particular, it enables definition of the main lithological structures within the aquifer. The final ERT static model delineates a relatively high-resistivity, low-porosity, intermediate-depth layer throughout the investigated aquifer volume that is consistent with results from well logging and seismic and radar tomography models. The next step will be to define and implement an appropriate time-lapse ERT inversion scheme using the river water as a natural tracer. The main challenge will be to separate the superposed time-varying effects of water table height, temperature, and salinity variations associated with the infiltrating water.

Elektroniset finanssipalvelut, erityisesti Internetin kautta käytettynä, on kasvava alue. Elektronisten finanssipalveluiden tarjoajan tulee pystyä tarjoamaan laaja käytettävyys kaikkien kanavien kautta. Laajan käytettävyyden avulla asiakas voi valita haluamansa kanavan haluamanaan aikana. Palveluntarjoajalla tulee olla joustava arkkitehtuuri pystyäkseen tukemaan asiakkaiden muuttuvia vaatimuksia. Joustavalla arkkitehtuurilla päätelaitteeseen mukautuminen on mahdollista ja näin palveluntarjoaja pystyy tarjoamaan tuen monille eri päätelaitteille ja teknologioille helposti ja nopeasti. Diplomityö keskittyy tutkimaan mahdollisuutta monen kanavan tukeen ja päätelaitteeseen mukautumista Nordean tulevassa finanssiportaaliratkaisussa. Tämä pitäisi olla mahdollista uuden arkkitehtuurin kanssa, jonka TietoEnator on toteuttanut yhteistyössä Nordean kanssa. Sivujen rakenteen uudelleenjärjestelyillä saatiin hyviä tuloksia. Nykyisestä arkkitehtuurissa löydettiin myös puutteita ja jäljelle jäi avoimia kysymyksiä, jotka kirjattiin ylös. On selvästi nähtävissä, että tehokas päätelaitteeseen mukautuminen ja tuki monelle kanavalle tuo hyötyjä sekä pankille että asiakkaalle.

Tutkielman tavoitteena on luoda suuntaviivat Etelä-Karjalan Osuuspankin uudelle sisäisen laskennan ajattelutavalle, joka tukisi palvelukanavien yhteistyötä ja poistaisi niiden välistä keskinäistä kilpailua. Käsiteanalyyttisessä teoriaosiossa analysoidaan laskenta-ajattelun muutostarvetta aikaisemman teoreettisen kirjoittelun perusteella. Empiirisessä osiossa analysoidaan Etelä-Karjalan Osuuspankin laskenta-ajattelun nykytilaa sekä toiminnan muutoksia, jotka luovat tarpeen uudelle laskenta-ajattelulle. Tutkielman tutkimusote koko työn osalta on hermeneuttinen, eli ymmärtämään pyrkivä. Empiirinen osuus sisältää myös normatiivisia piirteitä. Tutkimustulosten mukaan kanavakohtainen kannattavuuslaskenta on hylättävä ja siirryttävä kannattavuuden osalta pankkitasoiseen tarkasteluun. Sisäisen laskennan tulee selventää edelleen eri kanavien rooleja ja korostaa uuden ansainnan tärkeyttä. Sen pitää myös tukea eri palvelukanavien välistä yhteistyötä.

Tutkielman tavoitteena oli luoda pankin palvelupisteille monikanava-ajattelua tukeva rooli, joka huomioi arvonmuodostumisen sekä asiakkaan että pankin näkökulmasta. Teoriaosassa analysoidaan pankin arvonmuodostumista aikaisemman teoreettisen kirjoittelun perusteella ja luodaan viitekehys arvonmuodostumiselle pankkipalveluissa. Empiirisessä osiossa analysoidaan Etelä-Karjalan Osuuspankin palvelupisteiden nykytilaa ja muodostetaan uusi rooli palvelupisteille. Tutkielman tutkimusote on hermeneuttinen, eli ymmärtävään pyrkivä. Empiirinen osuus sisältää myös normatiivisia piirteitä. Tutkimustulosten mukaan palvelupisteet eivät nykyisessä roolissaan tue monikanavamallia. Uusi rooli on olla lähellä asiakkaita. Mikäli palvelupisteiden toimintaa halutaan jatkaa, on niihin kiinnitettävä enemmän huomiota niin pankin kuin toimihenkilöidenkin taholta.

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tehdä Kymppiposti-ketjulle franchisingyrittäjien rekrytointimalli: Kymppiposti-yrittäjän profiili, rekrytointikanavat ja -keinot, rekrytointi-prosessi ja rekrytoinnissa huomioitavat asiat. Tutkimuksen teoriaosuudessa analysoitiin kattavasti ja huolellisesti lähdekirjallisuus yli 30 vuoden ajalta tutkimusilmiön ymmärtämiseksi. Empiirinen osa koostui kolmen suomalaisen franchising-ketjun ja kolmen franchisingasiantuntijan haastatteluista sekä Kymppiposti-ketjun pilottikokemuksista. Tutkimus on kvalitatiivinen tapaustutkimus ja tutkimusote on konstruktiivinen. Luotu rekrytointimalli testataan ottamalla se käyttöön Kymppiposti-ketjussa (ns. heikko testi). Kymppipostin yrittäjävalinnan perusedellytyksenä on, että hakijalla ei ole rikosrekisteriä ja että hänen luottotiedot ovat kunnossa ts. hakijalla on kyky tehdä tarvittavat investoinnit. Tärkeitä yrittäjäpiirteitä ja -ominaisuuksia ovat motivaatio, halu menestyä, hyvät asiakaspalvelu- ja vuorovaikutustaidot, innovatiivisuus, halu ja kyky panostaa työhön, siisteys ja terveys. Rekrytointikeinoina suositellaan monikanavaisuutta, jossa rekrytointisanoma on erilaistettu hakijatyypeittäin. Rekrytointiprosessi kestää 3–6 kk ja siihen osallistuu useita henkilöitä. Prosessiin kuuluu 3 haastattelua, 2 testiä, ketjuyrittäjän haastattelu, työhön tutustuminen, koulutus- ja työharjoittelu sekä koeaika. Rekrytoinnissa on erityisesti huomioitava, että valinta-kriteereistä pidetään kiinni, hakijan oltava aktiivinen, harkinnalle on annettava aikaa ja konseptin ja ketjuyrittämisen keskeiset asiat (sopimus, pelisäännöt, laskelmat, investoinnit) on käytävä tarkkaan läpi hakijan kanssa.

Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää, voidaanko asiakkaan ja palveluntarjoajan odotukset yhdistää muodostettaessa palveluntarjoajan monikanavamallia. Monikanavaisuus tuo asiakkaalle mahdollisuuksia ajasta ja paikasta riippumattomaan asiointiin. Asiakkaan näkökulmasta tämä tarkoittaa usein sitä, että hänen oppimansa asiointitapa muuttuu. Asiakas kokee haittana sen, että joutuu panostamaan uuden asiointitavan opettelemiseen ja odottaa tämän muutoksen tuovan hänelle hyötyjä. Monikanavaisuuden hyödyt asiakkaalle punnitaan tässä muutostilanteessa. Palveluntarjoaja odottaa monikanavamallin tuovan kustannussäästöjä, sillä kanavavalinnat ovat keino kehittää asiakkuuksia ja vaikuttaa yrityksen kannattavuuteen pitkällä aikajänteellä. Monikanavamallin toteuttaminen vaatii palveluntarjoajalta alkuvaiheessa resursseja, investointeja ja halutun muutoksen tavoitteellista johtamista. Tutkittavat asiakkaat valittiin Suomen Posti Oyj:n Yritykset ja yritykset –asiakassegmentistä. Tutkimuksessa ei löytynyt asiakaskohtaisia eroja asiakkaiden odotuksista palveluntarjoajien monikanavamalleihin, mutta hyötyodotusten suhteen tunnistettiin kolme erilaista asiakastyyppiä: kustannussäästöjä odottavat hintaorientoituneet asiakkaat, palvelun entistä parempaa sujumista odottavat palveluorientoituneet asiakkaat ja oman valinnanvapautensa merkitystä painottavat asiakassuhdeorientoituneet asiakkaat. Palveluntarjoajan tulee pystyä viestimään ja argumentoimaan asiointitavan muutoksesta kullekin asiakkaalle merkityksellisellä tavalla. Teorian ja empirian pohjalta voidaan sanoa, että asiakkaan ja palveluntarjoajan odotukset voidaan yhdistää muodostettaessa palveluntarjoajan monikanavamallia. Tämä edellyttää, että palveluntarjoaja tuntee asiakkaansa niin hyvin, että tietää millaiset eri asiakkaiden hyötyodotukset ovat.

This thesis presents the design and implementation of a GPS-signal source suitable for receiver measurements. The developed signal source is based on direct digital synthesis which generates the intermediate frequency. The intermediate frequency is transfered to the final frequency with the aid of an Inphase/Quadrature modulator. The modulating GPS-data was generated with MATLAB. The signal source was duplicated to form a multi channel source. It was shown that, GPS-signals ment for civil navigation are easy to generate in the laboratory. The hardware does not need to be technically advanced if navigation with high level of accuracy is not needed. It was also shown that, the Inphase/Quadrature modulator can function as a single side band upconverter even with a high intermediate frequency. This concept reduces the demands required for output filtering.

A sequential system for fractionation by ultrafiltration (SSFU) equipped with advanced membranes filters (molecular size cut-off: 5, 10, 30, 50 and 100 kDalton) of the polyethersulfone type was developed for analytical fractionation of humic substances (HS) extracted from aquatic systems or soils. The device consists of five membrane filters (Sartocon® Micro) operated by a multi-channel peristaltic pump, enabling an easy handling, working in a closed system and with simple collection of the six obtained fractions (F1>100; F2: 100-50; F3: 50-30; F4:30-10; F5: 10-5 and F6 <5 kDalton). Then, the HS sample (250 mL solution 1.0 mg/mL, pH 5.0 to 6.0) to be fractionated is pumped by pump through the series of membrane filters with a tangential flow of 85 mL/min, initial pressure 0.2 to 0.3 bar and permeation flux through the membranes of 0.8 to 1.4 mL/min. The overall time for fractionation and cleaning of the device is about 10 h and 25 mL of each fraction is obtained.

The Travel and Tourism field is undergoing changes due to the rapid development of information technology and digital services. Online travel has profoundly changed the way travel and tourism organizations interact with their customers. Mobile technology such as mobile services for pocket devices (e.g. mobile phones) has the potential to take this development even further. Nevertheless, many issues have been highlighted since the early days of mobile services development (e.g. the lack of relevance, ease of use of many services). However, the wide adoption of smartphones and the mobile Internet in many countries as well as the formation of so-called ecosystems between vendors of mobile technology indicate that many of these issues have been overcome. Also when looking at the numbers of downloaded applications related to travel in application stores like Google Play, it seems obvious that mobile travel and tourism services are adopted and used by many individuals. However, as business is expected to start booming in the mobile era, many issues have a tendency to be overlooked. Travelers are generally on the go and thus services that work effectively in mobile settings (e.g. during a trip) are essential. Hence, the individuals’ perceived drivers and barriers to use mobile travel and tourism services in on-site or during trip settings seem particularly valuable to understand; thus this is one primary aim of the thesis. We are, however, also interested in understanding different types of mobile travel service users. Individuals may indeed be very different in their propensity to adopt and use technology based innovations (services). Research is also switching more from investigating issues of mobile service development to understanding individuals’ usage patterns of mobile services. But designing new mobile services may be a complex matter from a service provider perspective. Hence, our secondary aim is to provide insights into drivers and barriers of mobile travel and tourism service development from a holistic business model perspective. To accomplish the research objectives seven different studies have been conducted over a time period from 2002 – 2013. The studies are founded on and contribute to theories within diffusion of innovations, technology acceptance, value creation, user experience and business model development. Several different research methods are utilized: surveys, field and laboratory experiments and action research. The findings suggest that a successful mobile travel and tourism service is a service which supports one or several mobile motives (needs) of individuals such as spontaneous needs, time-critical arrangements, efficiency ambitions, mobility related needs (location features) and entertainment needs. The service could be customized to support travelers’ style of traveling (e.g. organized travel or independent travel) and should be easy to use, especially easy to take into use (access, install and learn) during a trip, without causing security concerns and/or financial risks for the user. In fact, the findings suggest that the most prominent barrier to the use of mobile travel and tourism services during a trip is an individual’s perceived financial cost (entry costs and usage costs). It should, however, be noted that regulations are put in place in the EU regarding data roaming prices between European countries and national telecom operators are starting to see ‘international data subscriptions’ as a sales advantage (e.g. Finnish Sonera provides a data subscription in the Baltic and Nordic region at the same price as in Finland), which will enhance the adoption of mobile travel and tourism services also in international contexts. In order to speed up the adoption rate travel service providers could consider e.g. more local initiatives of free Wi-Fi networks, development of services that can be used, at least to some extent, in an offline mode (do not require costly network access during a trip) and cooperation with telecom operators (e.g. lower usage costs for travelers who use specific mobile services or travel with specific vendors). Furthermore, based on a developed framework for user experience of mobile trip arrangements, the results show that a well-designed mobile site and/or native application, which preferably supports integration with other mobile services, is a must for true mobile presence. In fact, travel service providers who want to build a relationship with their customers need to consider a downloadable native application, but in order to be found through the mobile channel and make contact with potential new customers, a mobile website should be available. Moreover, we have made a first attempt with cluster analysis to identify user categories of mobile services in a travel and tourism context. The following four categories were identified: info-seekers, checkers, bookers and all-rounders. For example “all-rounders”, represented primarily by individuals who use their pocket device for almost any of the investigated mobile travel services, constituted primarily of 23 to 50 year old males with high travel frequency and great online experience. The results also indicate that travel service providers will increasingly become multi-channel providers. To manage multiple online channels, closely integrated and hybrid online platforms for different devices, supporting all steps in a traveler process should be considered. It could be useful for travel service providers to focus more on developing browser-based mobile services (HTML5-solutions) than native applications that work only with specific operating systems and for specific devices. Based on an action research study and utilizing a holistic business model framework called STOF we found that HTML5 as an emerging platform, at least for now, has some limitations regarding the development of the user experience and monetizing the application. In fact, a native application store (e.g. Google Play) may be a key mediator in the adoption of mobile travel and tourism services both from a traveler and a service provider perspective. Moreover, it must be remembered that many device and mobile operating system developers want service providers to specifically create services for their platforms and see native applications as a strategic advantage to sell more devices of a certain kind. The mobile telecom industry has moved into a battle of ecosystems where device makers, developers of operating systems and service developers are to some extent forced to choose their development platforms.

This study combines several projects related to the flows in vessels with complex shapes representing different chemical apparata. Three major cases were studied. The first one is a two-phase plate reactor with a complex structure of intersecting micro channels engraved on one plate which is covered by another plain plate. The second case is a tubular microreactor, consisting of two subcases. The first subcase is a multi-channel two-component commercial micromixer (slit interdigital) used to mix two liquid reagents before they enter the reactor. The second subcase is a micro-tube, where the distribution of the heat generated by the reaction was studied. The third case is a conventionally packed column. However, flow, reactions or mass transfer were not modeled. Instead, the research focused on how to describe mathematically the realistic geometry of the column packing, which is rather random and can not be created using conventional computeraided design or engineering (CAD/CAE) methods. Several modeling approaches were used to describe the performance of the processes in the considered vessels. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to describe the details of the flow in the plate microreactor and micromixer. A space-averaged mass transfer model based on Fick’s law was used to describe the exchange of the species through the gas-liquid interface in the microreactor. This model utilized data, namely the values of the interfacial area, obtained by the corresponding CFD model. A common heat transfer model was used to find the heat distribution in the micro-tube. To generate the column packing, an additional multibody dynamic model was implemented. Auxiliary simulation was carried out to determine the position and orientation of every packing element in the column. This data was then exported into a CAD system to generate desirable geometry, which could further be used for CFD simulations. The results demonstrated that the CFD model of the microreactor could predict the flow pattern well enough and agreed with experiments. The mass transfer model allowed to estimate the mass transfer coefficient. Modeling for the second case showed that the flow in the micromixer and the heat transfer in the tube could be excluded from the larger model which describes the chemical kinetics in the reactor. Results of the third case demonstrated that the auxiliary simulation could successfully generate complex random packing not only for the column but also for other similar cases.
