We present a vision and a proposal for using Semantic Web technologies in the organic food industry. This is a very knowledge intensive industry at every step from the producer, to the caterer or restauranteur, through to the consumer. There is a crucial need for a concept of environmental audit which would allow the various stake holders to know the full environmental impact of their economic choices. This is a di?erent and parallel form of knowledge to that of price. Semantic Web technologies can be used e?ectively for the calculation and transfer of this type of knowledge (together with other forms of multimedia data) which could contribute considerably to the commercial and educational impact of the organic food industry. We outline how this could be achieved as our essential ob jective is to show how advanced technologies could be used to both reduce ecological impact and increase public awareness.

Various digital watermarking (WM) techniques for still imaging have been studied in the last several years. Recently, many new WM schemes have been proposed for other types of digital multimedia data, such as text, audio and video. This paper presents a brief overview of existing digital video WM. We classify WM techniques and discuss the properties of video WM. Since each WM application has its own specific requirements, WM design must take the intended application into consideration. Video WM applications are also discussed in the paper. The features of video WM implementations in software and hardware and their differences are presented through the description of four examples of existing work.

The penetration of the electric vehicle (EV) has increased rapidly in recent years mainly as a consequence of advances in transport technology and power electronics and in response to global pressure to reduce carbon emissions and limit fossil fuel consumption. It is widely acknowledged that inappropriate provision and dispatch of EV charging can lead to negative impacts on power system infrastructure. This paper considers EV requirements and proposes a module which uses owner participation, through mobile phone apps and on-board diagnostics II (OBD-II), for scheduled vehicle charging. A multi-EV reference and single-EV real-time response (MRS2R) online algorithm is proposed to calculate the maximum and minimum adjustable limits of necessary capacity, which forms part of decision-making support in power system dispatch. The proposed EV dispatch module is evaluated in a case study and the influence of the mobile app, EV dispatch trending and commercial impact is explored.

Nowadays, due to the incredible grow of the mobile devices market, when we want to implement a client-server applications we must consider mobile devices limitations. In this paper we discuss which can be the more reliable and fast way to exchange information between a server and an Android mobile application. This is an important issue because with a responsive application the user experience is more enjoyable. In this paper we present a study that test and evaluate two data transfer protocols, socket and HTTP, and three data serialization formats (XML, JSON and Protocol Buffers) using different environments and mobile devices to realize which is the most practical and fast to use.

The rapidly increasing computing power, available storage and communication capabilities of mobile devices makes it possible to start processing and storing data locally, rather than offloading it to remote servers; allowing scenarios of mobile clouds without infrastructure dependency. We can now aim at connecting neighboring mobile devices, creating a local mobile cloud that provides storage and computing services on local generated data. In this paper, we describe an early overview of a distributed mobile system that allows accessing and processing of data distributed across mobile devices without an external communication infrastructure. Nowadays, there are several services and applications that allow users to locate and move to different tourist areas using a mobile device. These systems can be used either by internet or downloading an application in concrete places like a visitors centre. Although such applications are able to facilitate the location and the search for points of interest, in most cases, these services and applications do not meet the needs of each user. This paper aims to provide a solution by studying the main projects, services and applications, their routing algorithms and their treatment of the real geographical data in Android mobile devices, focusing on the data acquisition and treatment to improve the routing searches in off-line environments.

Siksi uusia, nopeampia tiedonsiirtomenetelmiä on otettava käyttöön. Ultra Wideband (UWB) on uusi radioaaltotekniikka, jokamahdollistaa korkeat tiedonsiirtonopeudet lyhyillä etäisyyksillä. Tekniikka operoi erittäin leveällä 3.1 - 10.6 gigahertsin taajuuskaistalla.UWB on suunnattu nopeaan, langattomaan tiedonsiirtoon personal area networkin (PAN) laitteiden välillä. Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena on arvioida UWBn soveltuvuutta mobiililaitteisiin.

Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) on eräs kolmannen sukupolven matkapuhelinjärjestelmä, jota tullaan käyttämään Euroopassa. Diplomityön päämääränä on tutkia, kuinka pakettivälitteistä tiedonsiirtoa hallitaan UMTS - verkoissa. SM -protokolla on käsitelty työssä yksityiskohtaisesti. SM -protokollan SDL toteutus on esitetty diplomityön käytännönosassa

Data traffic caused by mobile advertising client software when it is communicating with the network server can be a pain point for many application developers who are considering advertising-funded application distribution, since the cost of the data transfer might scare their users away from using the applications. For the thesis project, a simulation environment was built to mimic the real client-server solution for measuring the data transfer over varying types of connections with different usage scenarios. For optimising data transfer, a few general-purpose compressors and XML-specific compressors were tried for compressing the XML data, and a few protocol optimisations were implemented. For optimising the cost, cache usage was improved and pre-loading was enhanced to use free connections to load the data. The data traffic structure and the various optimisations were analysed, and it was found that the cache usage and pre-loading should be enhanced and that the protocol should be changed, with report aggregation and compression using WBXML or gzip.
