A Two-level Prediction Model for Deep Reactive Ion Etch (DRIE)

We contribute a quantitative and systematic model to capture etch non-uniformity in deep reactive ion etch of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices. Deep reactive ion etch is commonly used in MEMS fabrication where high-aspect ratio features are to be produced in silicon. It is typical for many supposedly identical devices, perhaps of diameter 10 mm, to be etched simultaneously into one silicon wafer of diameter 150 mm. Etch non-uniformity depends on uneven distributions of ion and neutral species at the wafer level, and on local consumption of those species at the device, or die, level. An ion–neutral synergism model is constructed from data obtained from etching several layouts of differing pattern opening densities. Such a model is used to predict wafer-level variation with an r.m.s. error below 3%. This model is combined with a die-level model, which we have reported previously, on a MEMS layout. The two-level model is shown to enable prediction of both within-die and wafer-scale etch rate variation for arbitrary wafer loadings.

Estudio sistémico del sector estratégico dotación y seguridad industrial para la empresa Mas Dotaciones Ltda.

En el trabajo se realizó un acercamiento, lo más exhaustivo posible, del comportamiento del sector estratégico de dotación y seguridad industrial. Para dicha aproximación se elaboraron pruebas de tipo cuantitativo y cualitativo con el fin de determinar el nivel de imitación dentro del mismo evaluando las fuerzas del mercado que impactan al sector bajo el modelo de Porter. Adicionalmente se realizó un análisis estructural abordado desde la herramienta MICMAC para describir al sistema y visualizar las relaciones existentes entre los elementos claves logrando una representación de la dinámica entre la empresa Más Dotaciones Ltda., y su contexto estratégico.

Powerpoint to promote chemistry to A-level students

This presentation has been modified by a B.Sc final year project student to promote chemistry as a degree and a career option for youngsters. The original presentation was produced by the Biological and Medicinal Chemistry Sector or the Royal Society of Chemistry. The project student has polished the slides to make them more appealing to today's A-level students. She has also evaluated the impact of her work. A summary of her report will be added in due course.

Análisis del rol de las ONG como voceras en la escena internacional de las víctimas del conflicto armado en Colombia. Estudio de caso: Comunidad de Paz de San José de Apartadó ante el sistema interamericano de derechos humanos. Período 1997-2011

El presente trabajo de grado hace referencia a la población de San José de Apartadó, víctima del conflicto armado por la pugna entre grupos subversivos que buscan tener el control territorial, por la riqueza de los recursos y la ubicación geoestratégica que posee. La población se encuentra en una situación de crisis humanitaria y de desplazamiento forzado por más de 50 años. El conflicto se vio agudizado desde la llegada de los paramilitares en la década de los 90, estos en aparente connivencia con las fuerzas militares. Dicha situación llevó a que los civiles se organizaran bajo una iniciativa de resistencia civil no violenta para rechazar el conflicto y exigir el respeto a los derechos humanos. Se declaran Comunidad de Paz el 23 de marzo de 1997, lo cual generó un ambiente de descontento y represalias por parte de los grupos armados. Los pobladores se vieron en la obligación de acudir a actores externos como las ONG, con la capacidad de mediar por la población víctima y elevar el caso a nivel internacional, para que desde las instituciones internacionales pertinentes se ejerza presión externa al Estado colombiano, exigiendo la reparación y protección de las víctimas. El presente caso toma como referencia al Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos- SIDH.

Review of A-level Chemistry content 2015

ITEM DESCRIPTION After producing reviews of A-level Chemistry content in 2007 and 2010, we have updated the document to reflect the changes which have been introduced for first teaching in September 2015. We will be working with our network of teachers locally to monitor the impacts of the changes on teaching and the student experience with a view to releasing an updated version in the summer of 2017. This will aim to provide insights for university staff regarding the experiences of incoming students who will have been in the first cohort to have studied the new specifications.
