We report a new method for fabricating rare-earth-doped silica glasses for laser materials obtained by sintering nanoporous silica glasses impregnated with rare-earth-doped ions. The fabricated materials have no residual pores and show good optical and mechanical properties. Good performance from a Nd3+-doped silica microchip laser operating at 1.064 mum is successfully demonstrated, suggesting that the fabricated silica glasses have potential for use as active materials for high-power solid-state lasers. Spectroscopic properties of (Y0.9-xLa0.1Ybx)(2)O-3 transparent ceramic were studied. Two main absorption peaks of the specimen are centered at 940 and 970 nm, which are suitable for InGaAs laser diode pumping. The main emission peaks were located at 1032 and 1075 nm with larger emission cross-section and longer fluorescence lifetime than those of Yb:Y2O3. These properties of (Y0.9-xLa0.1Ybx)(2)O-3 transparent ceramic are favorable to achieve high efficiency and high power laser output. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

采用传统无压烧结工艺制备了Er^3+/Yb^3+共掺的氧化镧钇透明陶瓷并对其光谱性能进行了研究.样品具有较大的吸收和发射截面.La2O3的添加使样品的荧光寿命(τs)与玻璃接近,当Yb^3+和Er^3+的掺杂量分别为5at%和0.5at%时,测得τs=9.65ms.这种荧光寿命长、发射截面大和线宽窄的特性有利于微型、可集成化和大功率激光输出的实现.

We report both continuous-wave and passively mode-locked laser actions in a Yb3+-doped gadolinium yttrium oxyorthosilicate Yb:GdySiO(5) (Yb:GYSO) crystal. Continuous-wave (CW) laser operations were compared under different pump conditions with high-power diodes of different wavelengths and fiber cores. CW mode-locking was obtained with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror.

The far-field intensity distribution (FFID) of a beam generated by a phase-unifying mirror resonator was investigated based on scalar diffraction theory. Attention was paid to the parameters, such as obscuration ratio and reflectivity of the phase-unifying mirror, that determine the FFID. All analyses were limited to the TEM00 fundamental mode. 研究了Ta2O5/SiO2硬膜双腔干涉滤光片带内、带边及带外的吸收和激光损伤特性。实验发现,对于作用激光,带通滤光片的驻波场分布、吸收率和损伤阈值在带内、带边和带外的响应特性对作用激光波长均呈现出明显的选择性。根据实验结果,结合滤光片的驻波场分析,给出了带通滤光片的损伤机理。

在千焦拍瓦高功率啁啾脉冲放大系统设计中,为了尽量消除增益窄化和增益饱和效应的影响,同时尽可能提高高功率激光输出脉冲信噪比参数,激光脉冲时空和光谱的整形问题备受关注.提出一种光谱整形新方法,利用特定结构的多层介质膜反射镜,可实现对大能量高功率啁啾脉冲钕玻璃放大系统中啁啾脉冲的光谱整形.研究结果表明,只要合理选择多层介质膜系的结构参数,可有效地控制其反射率分布,且在保证反射相位基本不变的条件下其调制度可超过60%.针对钕玻璃1053nm波长设计而成的光谱整形反射镜,反射带宽可达到196nm,色分辨率约为0.1nm,在几十纳米波长范围所对应的相位偏差小于12mrad,相当于λ/524,能够满足"神光Ⅱ"千焦拍瓦改造的技术指标要求.

综述了离子束辅助沉积技术在高功率激光薄膜制备中的应用研究进展。指出该技术在制备高激光损伤阈值的薄膜中存在的问题,即出现过高的堆积密度,会给薄膜带来杂质缺陷、化学计量比缺陷、损伤缺陷、晶界缺陷,制备薄膜的残余应力存在着压应力增加的趋势,会改变薄膜的晶体结构等。并指出了该研究领域的研究方向。

Electric field distributions inside resonant reflection filters constructed using planar periodic waveguides are investigated in this paper. The electric fields may be intensified by resonance effects. Although the resonant reflection peaks can be quite narrow using weakly modulated planar periodic waveguides, the strong electric field enhancement limits their use in high-power laser systems. Strongly modulated waveguides may be used to reduce the electric field enhancement and a cover layer may be used to narrow the bandwidth at the same time. Desired results (i.e. almost no electric field enhancement together with narrow bandwidth) can be realized using this simple structure.

HfO2 is one of the most important high refractive index materials for depositing high power optical mirrors. In this research, HfO2 thin films were prepared by dual-ion beam reactive sputtering method, and the laser-induced damage thresholds (LIDT) of the sample were measured in 1-on-1 mode for laser with 1064 nm wavelength. The results indicate that the LIDT of the as-grown sample is only 3.96 J/cm(2), but it is increased to 8.98 J/cm(2) after annealing under temperature of 200 degrees C in atmosphere. By measuring the laser weak absorption and SIMS of the samples, we deduced that substoichiometer is the main reason for the low LIDT of the as-grown sample, and the experiment results were well explained with the theory of electronic-avalanche ionization. Esta dissertação tem o intento de averiguar qual o tratamento dado pelo gênero notícia aos eventos de violência e preconceito contra os nordestinos brasileiros. A escolha deste gênero deu-se devido ao seu pertencimento às elites simbólicas, ou seja, por possuir alto poder de produção e de disseminação discursivas. Em virtude disso, o critério de seleção do corpus baseou-se em notícias que trazem em seu interior a(s) voz(es) da violência e do preconceito, por veicularem, consequentemente, discursos ideológicos. Como perspectiva teórica, esse trabalho filia-se à Análise Crítica do Discurso, buscando, especificamente, em Norman Fairclough os princípios analíticos norteadores. Para este pesquisador, o discurso produz três significados, quais sejam, o significado acional, o significado representacional e o significado identificacional. Com o intuito de depreender estes significados das notícias, a análise baseou-se, respectivamente, nas seguintes categorias: estrutura genérica, representação de atores sociais e modalização. Como resultado, a análise, de base qualitativa, demonstrou que os sentidos produzidos pelas notícias, majoritariamente, buscam reverter o quadro de discriminação que os nordestinos ainda sofrem em função de determinantes históricos. Assim, a mudança social e cultural proposta por Fairclough, com vistas a minimizar a representação assimétrica de minorias sociais- os nordestinos, neste caso- só será alcançada quando os discursos ideológicos que promovem essa representação tornarem-se explícitos para a sociedade

The paper's goal is the first demonstration of the fabrication of high power Schottky diodes on synthetic diamond using oxide ramp termination. In order to allow full activated impurities at room temperature and a high hole mobility a low boron doping of the drift layer is employed. Several aspects of the manufacturing technology are presented. A termination with a small ramp angle can be obtained using only RIE technique due to diamond wafer nonuniformity (roughness). Experimental forward and reverse characteristics measured on diamond diodes are also included. © 2007 IEEE.

This paper describes the growth of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) both aligned and non-aligned on fully processed CMOS substrates containing high temperature tungsten metallization. While the growth method has been demonstrated in fabricating CNT gas sensitive layers for high temperatures SOI CMOS sensors, it can be employed in a variety of applications which require the use of CNTs or other nanomaterials with CMOS electronics. In our experiments we have grown CNTs both on SOI CMOS substrates and SOI CMOS microhotplates (suspended on membranes formed by post-CMOS deep RIE etching). The fully processed SOI substrates contain CMOS devices and circuits and additionally, some wafers contained high current LDMOSFETs and bipolar structures such as Lateral Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors. All these devices were used as test structures to investigate the effect of additional post-CMOS processing such as CNT growth, membrane formation, high temperature annealing, etc. Electrical characterisation of the devices with CNTs were performed along with SEM and Raman spectroscopy. The CNTs were grown both at low and high temperatures, the former being compatible with Aluminium metallization while the latter being possible through the use of the high temperature CMOS metallization (Tungsten). In both cases we have found that there is no change in the electrical behaviour of the CMOS devices, circuits or the high current devices. A slight degradation of the thermal performance of the CMOS microhotplates was observed due to the extra heat dissipation path created by the CNT layers, but this is expected as CNTs exhibit a high thermal conductance. In addition we also observed that in the case of high temperature CNT growth a slight degradation in the manufacturing yield was observed. This is especially the case where large area membranes with a diameter in excess of 500 microns are used.
