Finite group lattice gauge theories for quantum simulation

The present manuscript focuses on Lattice Gauge Theories based on finite groups. For the purpose of Quantum Simulation, the Hamiltonian approach is considered, while the finite group serves as a discretization scheme for the degrees of freedom of the gauge fields. Several aspects of these models are studied. First, we investigate dualities in Abelian models with a restricted geometry, using a systematic approach. This leads to a rich phase diagram dependent on the super-selection sectors. Second, we construct a family of lattice Hamiltonians for gauge theories with a finite group, either Abelian or non-Abelian. We show that is possible to express the electric term as a natural graph Laplacian, and that the physical Hilbert space can be explicitly built using spin network states. In both cases we perform numerical simulations in order to establish the correctness of the theoretical results and further investigate the models.

La pubblicità tra presenza LGBTQ+, stereotipi di genere ed inclusione. Le tendenze della rappresentazione queer all’interno degli spot televisivi americani

La pubblicità – quella televisiva passando poi a quella sul web e sui social – subisce numerose trasformazioni che investono soprattutto i metodi comunicativi con cui sviluppare la propria narrazione. Oggi, di fatto, il mondo della pubblicità non si limita alla sola sponsorizzazione di un brand e dei suoi prodotti, ma si cala sempre più nelle dinamiche sociali, civili ed economiche che caratterizzano il nostro quotidiano. La comunicazione commerciale, dunque, si prefigge di essere il più inclusiva possibile, di coinvolgere storie, situazioni e personaggi che, nella pubblicità del “passato”, sarebbero stati esclusi totalmente o rappresentati in modo stereotipato. Se risulta possibile affermare che, nel panorama mediale odierno, si stia rivolgendo maggiore attenzione alle tematiche LGBTQ+, alle lotte contro la discriminazione di genere e all’ingaggio di personaggi appartenenti alla comunità queer, è altrettanto vero affermare come sia ancora possibile ricadere in rappresentazioni stereotipate e strategie di marketing che si fingono inclusive, solo per cavalcare l’onda del successo di eventi quali il Pride. All’interno di questo elaborato si andrà, in primis, a tracciare la storia culturale della comunità LGBTQ+ e ad approfondire come sia evoluta la sua presenza nei diversi media audiovisivi – dal cinema alle serie tv fino alla pubblicità. Ci si concentrerà poi sugli stereotipi ancora ricorrenti in pubblicità televisiva, ossia quello di genere. L’obiettivo della tesi è verificare se sia giusto parlare di inclusione o se si tratti solo una mera strategia di marketing, ossia di rainbow-washing, quando i brand si avvalgono di immagini e di personaggi LGBTQ+ nei propri spot. Nel capitolo finale, attraverso di un’analisi qualitativa di n. 100 spot televisivi americani, si andranno ad evidenziare i trend LGBTQ+, ossia in che modo oggi le pubblicità statunitensi sviluppano immagini, simboli, personaggi e storie LGBTQ+, realmente positive ed inclusive, in pubblicità.

Multi-scalar critical theories: first steps for a non perturbative functional renormalization group analysis

In this work the fundamental ideas to study properties of QFTs with the functional Renormalization Group are presented and some examples illustrated. First the Wetterich equation for the effective average action and its flow in the local potential approximation (LPA) for a single scalar field is derived. This case is considered to illustrate some techniques used to solve the RG fixed point equation and study the properties of the critical theories in D dimensions. In particular the shooting methods for the ODE equation for the fixed point potential as well as the approach which studies a polynomial truncation with a finite number of couplings, which is convenient to study the critical exponents. We then study novel cases related to multi field scalar theories, deriving the flow equations for the LPA truncation, both without assuming any global symmetry and also specialising to cases with a given symmetry, using truncations based on polynomials of the symmetry invariants. This is used to study possible non perturbative solutions of critical theories which are extensions of known perturbative results, obtained in the epsilon expansion below the upper critical dimension.

Traduzione femminista e queer: proposta di traduzione parziale di “Bi: Notes for a Bisexual Revolution” di Shiri Eisner

Questa tesi ha come obiettivo quello di proporre una traduzione di alcune parti del libro "Bi: Notes for a Bisexual Revolution", un saggio dell’autrice Shiri Eisner sulla bisessualità. Nel primo capitolo dell’elaborato si presentano delle nozioni teoriche sugli studi di genere, sulla relazione tra genere e lingua e sulle correnti di traduzione femminista e queer. Nel secondo capitolo segue una presentazione sull’autrice, un breve riassunto dell'opera e la ricezione di quest'ultima da parte della critica e della comunità LGBTQ+. Nel terzo capitolo si trovano il commento e l'analisi della proposta di traduzione.

Transmission Of Intra-cellular Genetic Information: A System Proposal.

One of the great challenges of the scientific community on theories of genetic information, genetic communication and genetic coding is to determine a mathematical structure related to DNA sequences. In this paper we propose a model of an intra-cellular transmission system of genetic information similar to a model of a power and bandwidth efficient digital communication system in order to identify a mathematical structure in DNA sequences where such sequences are biologically relevant. The model of a transmission system of genetic information is concerned with the identification, reproduction and mathematical classification of the nucleotide sequence of single stranded DNA by the genetic encoder. Hence, a genetic encoder is devised where labelings and cyclic codes are established. The establishment of the algebraic structure of the corresponding codes alphabets, mappings, labelings, primitive polynomials (p(x)) and code generator polynomials (g(x)) are quite important in characterizing error-correcting codes subclasses of G-linear codes. These latter codes are useful for the identification, reproduction and mathematical classification of DNA sequences. The characterization of this model may contribute to the development of a methodology that can be applied in mutational analysis and polymorphisms, production of new drugs and genetic improvement, among other things, resulting in the reduction of time and laboratory costs.

Sobre a força de ácidos e bases: algumas considerações

This article intends to answer the question: what is the best way to evaluate the strength of acids and bases? The meaning of the word strength, the main acid-base theories (ionotropic and electron pair), the neutralization reactions and the thermodynamical formalism are considered. Some cases are presented and discussed. In conclusion, evaluating acid-base strength is dependent on the theory (formalism) as well as on the system and measuring techniques.

This work outlines the historic development of the concept and main theories of energy transfer, as well as the principal experiments carried out to confirm or refute the proposed theories. Energy transfer in coordination compounds is also discussed with a focus on rare earth systems.

Os caminhos da pragmática no Brasil

This paper traces the history of the study of pragmatics in Brazil. It is shown that Brazilian researches have, by and large, remained attentive to major developments in the field taking place elsewhere in the world. Of particular importance is the burgeoning tendency to focus attention on social issues affecting the day-to-day lives of ordinary people. More and more researchers are realizing the need to assume a critical role in relation to the theories they encounter in the literature.

A língua inglesa no ensino fundamentl I público: diálogos com Bakhtin por uma formação plurilíngue

This article aims at discussing the contributions of the Bakhtinian Circle theories to foreign language teaching and learning (HALL et al., 2005), as far as the first years of formal education in Brazil are concerned. Up to the present moment, foreign languages, including English, are not officially part of the National Curriculum of the first five schooling years. Due to the importance of English in a globalized world and despite all the controversial socio-educational impacts of such an influence, there has been an increase in the interest in this discipline at the beginning years of Brazilian public education (ROCHA, 2006), which has been happening at an irregular pace and without official parameters. Therefore, the relevance of this work lies on the possible guidelines it may offer to support a more effective, situated and meaningful teaching-learning process in that context. Standing for a pluralistic approach to language education, we take the bakhtinian speech genres as organizers of the educational process. We strongly believe that through a dialogic, pluralistic and trans/intercultural teaching (MAHER, 2007), whose main objective is the development of multi (COPE e KALANTZIS, 2000) and critical (COMBER, 2006) literacies, the hybridization of genres and cultures, as well as the creation of third spaces (KOSTOGRIZ, 2005; KUMARAVADIVELU, 2008) can happen. From this perspective, foreign language teaching and learning play a transformative role in society and English is seen as a boundary object (STAR e GRIESEMER, 1989), in and by which diversity, pluralism and polyphony can naturally find their way.

Função vísuo-espacial em paralisia cerebral e proposta de novo teste com a ajuda de computador

The first idea of this study is trat there may be a disturbance of the visuo-spatial function in cerebral palsy. This idea is based upon the theories of Luria and Piaget. The second idea of this study is that the computer can help the investigation of visuo-spatial function. With the intention of evaluating the spatial function in cerebral palsy, the literature related to these themes was revised. We justify the proposal of a new test to study visuo-spatial function. This test uses straight lines in four different orientations and the subject has to recognize and arrange them individually or sets of them. This was done through the use of pencil and papel, and computer. The results confirm that there is a spatial disturbance and that a better understanding of the subject's difficulties was made possible through the use of the computer and the Logo computer language.
