Running couplings for the simultaneous decoupling of heavy quarks

Scale-invariant running couplings are constructed for several quarks being decoupled together, without reference to intermediate thresholds. Large-momentum scales can also be included. The result is a multi-scale generalization of the renormalization group applicable to any order. Inconsistencies in the usual decoupling procedure with a single running coupling can then be avoided, e.g., when cancelling anomalous corrections from t, b quarks to the axial charge of the proton. Dynamical localization of matter-wave solitons in managed barrier potentials

The bright matter-wave soliton propagation through a barrier with a rapidly oscillating position is investigated. The averaged-over rapid oscillations Gross-Pitaevskii equation is derived, where the effective potential has the form of a finite well. Dynamical trapping and quantum tunneling of the soliton in the effective finite well are investigated. The analytical predictions for the effective soliton dynamics is confirmed by numerical simulations of the full Gross-Pitaevskii equation.

Simultaneous measurement of the ratio R = B(t -> Wb)/B(t -> Wq) and the top-quark pair production cross section with the D0 detector at root s=1.96 TeV

We present the first simultaneous measurement of the ratio of branching fractions, R = B(t --> Wb)/B(t --> Wq), with q being a d, s, or b quark, and the top-quark pair production cross section sigma(t (t) over bar) in the lepton plus jets channel using 0.9 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector. We extract R and sigma(t (t) over bar) by analyzing samples of events with 0, 1, and >= 2 identified b jets. We measure R = 0.97(-0.08)(+0.09) (stat + syst) and sigma(t (t) over bar) = 8.18(-0.84)(+0.90) (stat + syst) +/- 0.50(lumi) pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction.

Divergent diagrams of folds and simultaneous conjugacy of involutions

In this work we show that the smooth classification of divergent diagrams of folds (f(1),..., f(s)) : (R-n, 0) -> (R-n x(...)xR(n), 0) can be reduced to the classification of the s-tuples (p(1)., W) of associated involutions. We apply the result to obtain normal forms when s <= n and {p(1),...,p(s)} is a transversal set of linear involutions. A complete description is given when s = 2 and n >= 2. We also present a brief discussion on applications of our results to the study of discontinuous vector fields and discrete reversible dynamical systems.
