Psicoanálisis y lingüística : Delimitación de fronteras, delimitación de problemas. Enunciación e interpretación

El presente trabajo se enmarca en el proyecto de investigación 'Lógica y alcance de las operaciones del analista según Freud: colegir (erraten), interpretar, construir'. En esta oportunidad nos interesa delimitar la categoría de enunciación, en la dirección de establecer algunas de las particularidades que presenta en el campo de la lingüística y el campo del psicoanálisis. Por su parte, esto nos permitirá pensar si la articulación entre enunciación e interpretación presenta diferencias entre los dos campos mencionados Comenzamos entonces situando la categoría de enunciación en psicoanálisis a partir de la reformulación hecha por J. Lacan a la categoría de signo lingüístico presentado por Saussure, en cuanto a sus componentes y a su modo de operación. Ya que es a partir de estas reformulaciones que es posible pensar la articulación entre la significación y el sentido. Luego haremos un breve rastreo, vale decir, no exhaustivo de la noción de sentido o enunciación en Lingüística, intentando establecer sus particularidades en el terreno de este campo de la ciencia. Inevitablemente haremos una, también breve, mención a algunos de los problemas que en la lingüística surgen al intentar delimitarla dicha noción. A través de diferentes referencias bibliográficas se trabajaran las propuestas que al respecto presentan O. Ducrot, E. Benveniste, C. Kebrat Orechioni, G. Reyes y A. Bertorello. Se recortan así los problemas de 'intención enunciativa' y 'subjetividad' en la Lingüística. Estos serán contrastados y/o comparados con la noción de sujeto que se desprende de la enseñanza de Lacan, al menos en un período de la misma. Esta noción, entendida como sujeto intervalar se anuda a la re conceptualización mencionada en primer lugar del signo lingüístico y su operatoria. Nos referimos a la elaboración realizada por J. Lacan en su Seminario 11 'Los Cuatro Conceptos Fundamentales' respecto a lo que allí denomina las operaciones de 'Alienación' y 'Separación'. Es en torno a estas operaciones que puede pensarse al sujeto como el efecto del intervalo entre dos significantes. La operación de 'Separación' permitirá una dimensión de rescate de la dimensión 'no yo' de la 'Alienación' primera. Allí se juega para el sujeto la posibilidad de incluirse y hacerse representar en el lenguaje, mostrando al mismo tiempo los límites del campo de lo simbólico para otorgar identidad. Es en esta dirección que se piensa también la eficacia de la interpretación en Psicoanálisis. De este modo, llegamos al último tramo de nuestro recorrido donde intentaremos precisar a partir de estos desarrollos cuál es la articulación entre interpretación y enunciación en Psicoanálisis lo que nos llevará al problema de la convicción en un análisis o al problema de la producción de 'Efectos de verdad'. Tomando como herramienta la noción de verdad que allí se pone en juego, la diferenciaremos de otros modos de entender esta categoría. Para esto la referencia bibliográfica a la que hemos recurrido es el Seminario 17 'El revés del Psicoanálisis' de J. Lacan. Será entonces el lugar de la verdad en la articulación entre interpretación y enunciación, lo que nos permitirá delimitar la especificidad de estas categorías en el campo del Psicoanálisis. Por otro lado, la categoría de enunciación convoca a la de interpretación. Es por esto, que nuestra exploración sobre la primera nos ha llevado a preguntarnos por las diferencias en la articulación entre enunciación e interpretación entre los campos lingüístico y psicoanalítico. Estos entrecruzamientos delimitarán problemas para ambos campos que nos permitirán definir especificidades. Por un lado, nos saldrá al cruce desde la lingüística la noción de intención enunciativa y de subjetividad, las que diferentes autores recorren en términos de lo incognosible, o como disfuncionamiento lingüístico o como el 'aparato formal de la enunciación en el enunciado'. Por otro lado, desde el psicoanálisis, la noción de sujeto como sujeto intervalar, nos llevará a pensar la articulación clínica de la enunciación y la interpretación. Será entonces luego de pensar la noción de sujeto que cada campo articula con las categorías de enunciación e interpretación que les compete, que podremos avanzar en algunas delimitaciones especificas

Detection of neuritic plaques in Alzheimer’s disease by magnetic resonance microscopy

Magnetic resonance microscopy (MRM) theoretically provides the spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio needed to resolve neuritic plaques, the neuropathological hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Two previously unexplored MR contrast parameters, T2* and diffusion, are tested for plaque-specific contrast to noise. Autopsy specimens from nondemented controls (n = 3) and patients with AD (n = 5) were used. Three-dimensional T2* and diffusion MR images with voxel sizes ranging from 3 × 10−3 mm3 to 5.9 × 10−5 mm3 were acquired. After imaging, specimens were cut and stained with a microwave king silver stain to demonstrate neuritic plaques. From controls, the alveus, fimbria, pyramidal cell layer, hippocampal sulcus, and granule cell layer were detected by either T2* or diffusion contrast. These structures were used as landmarks when correlating MRMs with histological sections. At a voxel resolution of 5.9 × 10−5 mm3, neuritic plaques could be detected by T2*. The neuritic plaques emerged as black, spherical elements on T2* MRMs and could be distinguished from vessels only in cross-section when presented in three dimension. Here we provide MR images of neuritic plaques in vitro. The MRM results reported provide a new direction for applying this technology in vivo. Clearly, the ability to detect and follow the early progression of amyloid-positive brain lesions will greatly aid and simplify the many possibilities to intervene pharmacologically in AD.

Methyl Jasmonate Induces Lauric Acid ω-Hydroxylase Activity and Accumulation of CYP94A1 Transcripts but Does Not Affect Epoxide Hydrolase Activities in Vicia sativa Seedlings1

Treatment of etiolated Vicia sativa seedlings by the plant hormone methyl jasmonate (MetJA) led to an increase of cytochrome P450 content. Seedlings that were treated for 48 h in a 1 mm solution of MetJA stimulated ω-hydroxylation of 12:0 (lauric acid) 14-fold compared with the control (153 versus 11 pmol min−1 mg−1 protein, respectively). Induction was dose dependent. The increase of activity (2.7-fold) was already detectable after 3 h of treatment. Activity increased as a function of time and reached a steady level after 24 h. Northern-blot analysis revealed that the transcripts coding for CYP94A1, a fatty acid ω-hydroxylase, had already accumulated after 1 h of exposure to MetJA and was maximal between 3 and 6 h. Under the same conditions, a study of the enzymatic hydrolysis of 9,10-epoxystearic acid showed that both microsomal and soluble epoxide hydrolase activities were not affected by MetJA treatment.

Overexpression of an Arabidopsis cDNA Encoding a Sterol-C241-Methyltransferase in Tobacco Modifies the Ratio of 24-Methyl Cholesterol to Sitosterol and Is Associated with Growth Reduction

Higher plants synthesize 24-methyl sterols and 24-ethyl sterols in defined proportions. As a first step in investigating the physiological function of this balance, an Arabidopsis cDNA encoding an S-adenosyl-l-methionine 24-methylene lophenol-C241-methyltransferase, the typical plant enzyme responsible for the production of 24-ethyl sterols, was expressed in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) under the control of a constitutive promoter. Transgenic plants displayed a novel 24-alkyl-Δ5-sterol profile: the ratio of 24-methyl cholesterol to sitosterol, which is close to 1 in the wild type, decreased dramatically to values ranging from 0.01 to 0.31. In succeeding generations of transgenic tobacco, a high S-adenosyl-l-methionine 24-methylene lophenol-C241-methyltransferase enzyme activity and, consequently, a low ratio of 24-methyl cholesterol to sitosterol, was associated with reduced growth compared with the wild type. However, this new morphological phenotype appeared only below the threshold ratio of 24-methyl cholesterol to sitosterol of approximately 0.1. Because the size of cells was unchanged in small, transgenic plants, we hypothesize that a radical decrease of 24-methyl cholesterol and/or a concomitant increase of sitosterol would be responsible for a change in cell division through as-yet unknown mechanisms.

Comparative interleukin (IL-2)/interferon IFN-gamma and IL-4/IL-10 responses during acute infection of macaques inoculated with attenuated nef-truncated or pathogenic SICmac251 virus.

Comparison of immune responses to infection by a pathogenic or a nonpathogenic immunodeficiency virus in macaques may provide insights into pathogenetic events leading to simian AIDS. This work is aimed at exploring cytokine expression during infection by simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). We used semiquantitative reverse transcription-PCR to monitor interleukin (IL)-2/interferon (IFN)-gamma (Th1-like), and IL-4/IL-10 (Th2-like) expression in unmanipulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), during the acute phase of infection of eight cynomolgus macaques (Macaca fascicularis) with a pathogenic primary isolate of SIVmac251 (full-length nef), and of four other cynomolgus macaques by an attenuated molecular clone of SIVmac251 (nef-truncated). All the monkeys became infected, as clearly shown by the presence of infected PBMCs and by seroconversion. Nevertheless, PBMC-associated virus loads and p27 antigenemia in monkeys infected by the attenuated virus clone remained lower than those observed in animals infected with the pathogenic SIVmac251 isolate. A rise of IL-10 mRNA expression occurred in both groups of monkeys coincident with the peak of viral replication. In monkeys infected with the pathogenic SIVmac251, IL-2, IL-4, and IFN-gamma mRNAs were either weakly detectable or undetectable. On the contrary, animals infected by the attenuated virus exhibited an overexpression of these cytokine mRNAs during the first weeks after inoculation. The lack of expression of these cytokines in monkeys infected with the pathogenic primary isolate may reflect early immunodeficiency.

p53 expression is required for thymocyte apoptosis induced by adenosine deaminase deficiency.

Adenosine deaminase (ADA, EC 3.5.4.4) is a ubiquitous enzyme in the purine catabolic pathway. In contrast to the widespread tissue distribution of this enzyme, inherited ADA deficiency in human results in a tissue-specific severe combined immunodeficiency. To explain the molecular basis for this remarkable tissue specificity, we have used a genetic approach to study ADA deficiency. We demonstrate that ADA deficiency causes depletion of CD8low transitional and CD4+CD8+ double-positive thymocytes by an apoptotic mechanism. This effect is mediated by a p53-dependent pathway, since p53-deficient mice are resistant to the apoptosis induced by ADA deficiency. DNA damage, known to be caused by the abnormal accumulation of dATP in ADA deficiency, is therefore responsible for the ablation of T-cell development and for the immunodeficiency. The two thymocyte subsets most susceptible to apoptosis induced by ADA deficiency are also the two thymocyte subsets with the lowest levels of bcl-2 expression. We show that thymocytes from transgenic mice that overexpress bcl-2 in the thymus are rescued from apoptosis induced by ADA deficiency. Thus, the tissue specificity of the pathological effects of ADA deficiency is due to the low bcl-2 expression in CD8low transitional and CD4+CD8+ double-positive thymocytes.

Une histoire du sens:la sémantique linguistique depuis Bréal

Il y a plus d'un siècle, Michel Bréal institua l'analyse du sens dans le langage. À partir de là, le développement de la sémantique repose sur des paradigmes, qui constituent de véritables métaphores de la nature générale du langage. Cet ouvrage montre que, hors des modèles logiques, la sémantique s'est historiquement développée à travers quatre paradigmes. Le sens linguistique relève de la vie mentale des individus pour le paradigme psychologiste qui réunit Bréal, Brunot, Damourette et Pichon, Guillaume et Bally. La nature incertaine de cette vie mentale porte le structuralisme de Saussure, Greimas, Rastier et Wierzbicka à envisager le sens comme dérivant de l'équilibre des oppositions internes à la langue. Les déterminismes de cette organisation sont associés aux conditions de sa mise en oeuvre pour le paradigme de l'énonciation élaboré par Benveniste, Ducrot, Anscombre, Nølke et Culioli. Ils sont pour le cognitivisme de Kleiber, de Cadiot, de Fuchs et pour la Grammaire cognitive dérivés d'un esprit au fonctionnement mécaniste. Permettant de délimiter la forme et l'évolution des paradigmes scientifiques, l'analyse des théories donne à voir l'état actuel de la discipline et les questions qu'elle sera appelée à résoudre.

Identities and oppressions: Jean-Claude Lauzon's Léolo (1992)

This article approaches the fragmentation of identities characteristic of contemporary Western societies through the 1992 film Léolo by Jean-Claude Lauzon. Although it does explore linguistic, social, religious and ethnic divisions, this major piece of the Quebec repertoire recasts the sociolinguistic conflict between vernacular and formal practices (Labov 1972; Blanche-Benveniste 2002), raising questions of status and choice. This conflict is subsumed by the dialectics between primary and secondary culture. The cultural and linguistic opposition finds a primary metaphor in the film's central motif of the duality of dream and reality. No more than the cultural and linguistic can this opposition find a synthesis. This impossible reconciliation defines the constitutive rupture of the human psyche itself.

IPOs, clustering, indirect learning and filing independently

IPO underpricing has been attributed to valuation uncertainty, which can be at least partially resolved by the indirect learning associated with IPO clustering [Benveniste, L.M., Ljungqvist, A., Wilhelm, W.J., Yu, X.Y., 2003. Evidence of information spillovers in the production of investment banking services. Journal of Finance 58, 577–608]. We examine why firms might choose not to issue their IPOs contemporaneously with clusters of similar firms, forgoing opportunities to learn from their peers. We find that the willingness to file an IPO without the benefit of indirect learning from peer firm IPOs is directly related to insiders’ needs for portfolio diversification and the firm’s need to raise capital.

A escrita da escrita em (d)enunciação no espaço sócio-escolar: um espaço (em vão) para a (cri)atividade escrita

This thesis is a writing of (d)enunciation because it reveals the language experiencies of those individuals who take, in social school space, the social role of the teacher and of the student, for some reason, they feel restrained by a demand which prevents them of teaching and learning how to write – and, even, their own writing. On this basis, we consider some questions concerning Benveniste‘s theory of enunciation and the teaching and learning process in Portuguese from the triad among teacher – teaching of writing/ knowledge – student, making this theoretical area closer to the pedagogical one. We support in the working hypothesis that is based on the position of the loosening of this triad has its effects in the process of intervention-interference to the point where it does not leave a scar which can remain working on productive effects on the student‘s writing. As a consequence, we show two findings which allow us to think the teaching of writing in Portuguese is a space for writing creativity in such a way it reveals itself as a sine qua non condition for the institutionalized and subjective writing. The first finding is that taking genre as a model has some implications in the teaching and learning process of writing according to the instructions of the official documents. The second finding, as a result of the first one, is the assumption that genre is at the same time a model and a transgression and taking it as a (ex)sample opens space for writing creativity which ―is a transposition of the interior language‖ (BENVENISTE, 2014 [1968-1969], p. 132) in a way this creativity makes it intelligible and highlights what is a model (interactiveness) and a transgression (inventiveness). From such findings, we organize our heterogeneous corpus according to these procedures: recording the classes in audio; recording the interviews we made with teachers and students in audio; and constituting an archive with the students‘ writing production. From this corpus, we analyzed the (d)enunciative mo(ve)ments in the teacher – teaching of writing/ knowledge – student triad and the history of (d)enunciations, of language experiences. Besides, we analyzed the teacher‘s discourse in relation to the way he plans his classes based on the knowledge that must be taught and his own way of managing this knowledge in order to understand his interference in his students‘ writings. Our analyses (re)affirm that when the loosening of the triad happens, the students become lost, what makes them unable of working upon their own writing epilinguisticaly. Because of it, schools have lost their specificity as a place for teaching students how to read and write as they open space for training, only. On this basis, we consider that the effect of such a loosening generates complaints and denunciations. Therefore, based on such (d)enunciations, we present the Primary sketches of a proposition for intervention-interference in teaching how to write and we aim at introducing much knowledge to teachers and students in order to allow them to think about possible ways out.

Sobre las identificaciones y la alteridad en algunos modos de comunicación contemporáneos (Saussure, Deleuze, Lacan, Facebook)

En el presente trabajo proponemos abordar ciertas relaciones entre la comunicación, las identificaciones y la alteridad en el marco del auge tecnológico de las redes sociales. Para ello, intentando sortear los escollos de un mero trabajo de opinión, presentaremos algunos lineamientos del pensamiento de Saussure, Deleuze y Lacan respecto a las relaciones entre pensamiento y lenguaje, de modo tal que nos permita inscribir el análisis en el contexto de una tradición de pensamiento. La serie de problemáticas e inquietudes que orientan este recorrido pueden, en parte, articularse en la pregunta por las condiciones de posibilidad de un nuevo pensar y un nuevo decir, a partir de ciertos trayectos de la filosofía en la segunda mitad del siglo XX, los cuales han indagado en torno al pasaje o umbral que va del pensamiento moderno de lo Mismo al pensamiento de lo Otro. En este marco, abordaremos cuestiones en la relación entre comunicación-tecnología a partir de consideraciones del par lenguaje-subjetividad. Nuestro punto de partida son algunos rudimentos clásicos de la lingüística de Saussure y Benveniste en la vía de trayectos que subrayan el carácter múltiple y proliferante del lenguaje, manteniendo ciertas continuidades con el espíritu entusiasta de la ilustración y el pensamiento moderno. Luego, con algunas consideraciones en Deleuze y Lacan, propondremos un sondeo por perspectivas que enfatizan los límites irrebasables en la relación con el lenguaje, las posiciones del sujeto y las teorías respectivas de comunicación

Cross-calibrating ALES Envisat and CryoSat-2 Delay-Doppler: A coastal altimetry study in the Indonesian Seas

A regional cross-calibration between the first Delay Doppler altimetry dataset from Cryosat-2 and a retracked Envisat dataset is here presented, in order to test the benefits of the Delay-Doppler processing and to expand the Envisat time series in the coastal ocean. The Indonesian Seas are chosen for the calibration, since the availability of altimetry data in this region is particularly beneficial due to the lack of in-situ measurements and its importance for global ocean circulation. The Envisat data in the region are retracked with the Adaptive Leading Edge Subwaveform (ALES) Retracker, which has been previously validated and applied successfully to coastal sea level research. The study demonstrates that CryoSat-2 is able to decrease the 1-Hz noise of sea level estimations by 0.3 cm within 50 km of the coast, when compared to the ALES-reprocessed Envisat dataset. It also shows that Envisat can be confidently used for detailed oceanographic research after the orbit change of October 2010. Cross-calibration at the crossover points indicates that in the region of study a sea state bias correction equal to 5% of the significant wave height is an acceptable approximation for Delay-Doppler altimetry. The analysis of the joint sea level time series reveals the geographic extent of the semiannual signal caused by Kelvin waves during the monsoon transitions, the larger amplitudes of the annual signal due to the Java Coastal Current and the impact of the strong La Nina event of 2010 on rising sea level trends.
