Quasi-Dammann Grating With Proportional Intensity Array Spots

A quasi-Dammann grating is proposed to generate array spots with proportional-intensity orders in the far field. To describe the performance of the grating, the uniformities of the array spots are redefined. A two-dimensional even-sampling encode scheme is adopted to design the quasi-Dammann grating. Numerical solutions of the binary-phase quasi-Dammann grating with proportional-intensity orders are given. The experimental results with a third-order quasi-Dammann grating, which has an intensity proportion of 3:2:1 from zero order to second order, are presented. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America

Efecto de diferentes métodos de control de malezas en post emergencia en el cultivo de la soya (Glycine max (L) Merr.)

De los resultados obtenidos en el experimento se puede concluir lo siguiente: Los tratamientos químicos con excepción de Bentazon presentaron un eficiente control de malezas dicotiledónea. Solamente Betazon control a Cyperus rotundus. Ninguno de los tratamientos químicos en post – emergencia ejerció control sobre las poaceas. Todos los tratamiento probados en post- emergencia no ejerció control sobre especies Desmodium basbatum, por esta de la familia de las leguminosas igual que la soya. El control mecánico y los controles químicos exceptuando Bentazon obtuvieron rendimientos similares entre 2023.35 kg/ha y 2241.01 kg/ha. Se recomienda para trabajos posteriores buscar un manejo integrado de malezas que tomo como consecuencia la prueba de diferentes mezclas de herbicidas y combinaciones con métodos mecánicos o indicadores para poder controlar todos los componentes de la cenosis de las malezas.

Fishery Management and Local Communities: The Case of Madeira Beach, Florida

This paper uses an industrial organization approach to trace the impact on Madeira Beach, Fla., and surrounding areas of a 1-month closure of the grouper fishery from 15 February 2001 to 15 March 2001. A proposed 2-month closure is also evaluated. This approach identifies the economic relationships in the industry based on both product and place. The empirical analysis measures the losses in employment and income, information that enriches social and anthropological research on fishery-dependent communities. The 1-month closure is estimated to have reduced annual catches landed in Madeira Beach by 9.7–10.1% and annual revenues by 9.3–11.5%. These reductions are associated with a direct loss of about 33 full-time (annualized) jobs and personal income losses between $8 and 12 million in Madeira Beach and Pinellas County over a 10-year period. If the closure occurs for 2 months, annual landings and revenues will be reduced an estimated 17–21% and 20–23%, respectively.

Chromosome painting in the long-tailed field mouse provides insights into the ancestral murid karyotype

We report on the hybridization of mouse chromosomal paints to Apodemus sylvaticus, the long-tailed field mouse. The mouse paints detected 38 conserved segments in the Apodemus karyotype. Together with the species reported here there are now six species of rodents mapped with Mus musculus painting probes. A parsimony analysis indicated that the syntenies of nine M. musculus chromosomes were most likely already formed in the muroid ancestor: 3, 4, 7, 9, 14, 18, 19, X and Y. The widespread occurrence of syntenic segment associations of mouse chromosomes 1/17, 2/13, 7/19, 10/17, 11/16, 12/17 and 13/15 suggests that these associations were ancestral syntenies for muroid rodents. The muroid ancestral karyotype probably had a diploid number of about 2n = 54. It would be desirable to have a richer phylogenetic array of species before any final conclusions are drawn about the Muridae ancestral karyotype.
