The photon localization in disordered two-dimensional photonic crystal is studied theoretically. It is found that the mean transmission coefficient in the photonic band decreases exponentially as the disorder degree increases, reflecting the occurrence of Anderson localization. The strength of photon localization can be controlled by tuning the disorder degree in the photonic crystal. We think the variation regular of the transmission coefficient in our disordered system is equivalent to that of the scaling theory of localization.

The photon localization in disordered two-dimensional photonic crystal is studied by use of multiple- scattering method. The disorder degree can be controlled by adjusting the random rotating angle of the square cell. It is found that the transmission in the band decreases and that in the gap increases as the disorder degree increases, and localization induced by disorder will spread from the band gap edge to the band center and the gap center. Moreover, the mean transmission of the band will decrease exponentiatly with disorder increasing.

An edge emitting laser based on two-dimensional photonic crystal slabs is proposed. The device consists of a square lattice microcavity, which is composed of two structures with the same period but different radius of air-holes, and a waveguide. In the cavity, laser resonance in the inner structure benelits from not only the anomalous dispersion characteristic of the first band-edge at the M point in the first Brillouin-zone but also zero photon states in the outer structure. A line defect waveguide is introduced in the outer structure for extracting photons from the inner cavity. Three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain simulations apparently show the in-plane laser output from the waveguide. The microcavity has an effective mode volume of about 3.2(lambda/eta(slab))(3) for oscillation -mode and the quality factor of the device including line defect waveguide is estimated to be as high as 1300.

The authors investigate the spin-polarized transport properties of a two-dimensional electron gas in a n-type diluted magnetic narrow gap semiconductor quantum well subjected to perpendicular magnetic and electric fields. Interesting beating patterns in the magnetoresistance are found which can be tuned significantly by varying the electric field. A resonant enhancement of spin-polarized current is found which is induced by the competition between the s-d exchange interaction and the Rashba effect [Y. A. Bychkov and E. I. Rashba, J. Phys. The thermal entanglement in a two-spin-qutrit system with two spins coupled by exchange interaction under a magnetic field in an arbitrary direction is investigated. Negativity, the measurement of entanglement is calculated. We find that for any temperature the evolvement of negativity is symmetric with respect to magnetic field. The behavior of negativity is presented for four different cases. The results show that for different temperature; different magnetic field give maximum entanglement. Both the parallel and antiparallel magnetic field cases are investigated qualitatively (not quantitatively) in detail, we find that the entanglement may be enhanced under an antiparallel magnetic field.

We derive the generalized rate equation for the coupled quantum-dot (QD) system irradiated by a microwave field in the presence of a quantum point contact. It is shown that when a microwave field is tuned in resonance with the energy difference between the ground states of two QD's, the photon-assisted tunneling occurs and, as a result, the coupled QD system may be used as the single qubit. Furthermore, we show that the oscillating current through the detector decays drastically as the dephasing rate increases, indicating clearly the influence of the dephasing effect induced by the quantum point contact used as a detecting device.

The electronic state of a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) in the presence of a perpendicular uniform magnetic field and a lateral superlattice (LS) is investigated theoretically. A comparative study is made between a LS induced by a spatial electrostatic potential modulation (referred to as a PMLS) and that induced by a spatial magnetic-field modulation (referred ro asa MMLS). By utilizing a finite-temperature self-consistent Hartree-Fock approximation scheme; the dependence of the electronic state on different system parameters (e.g., the modulation period, the modulation strength, the effective electron-electron interaction strength, the averaged electron density, and the system temperature) is studied in detail. The inclusion of exchange effect is found to bring qualitative changes to the electronic state of a PMLS, leading generally to a nonuniform spin splitting, and consequently the behavior of the electronic state becomes similar to that of a MMLS. The Landau-level coupling is taken into account, and is found to introduce some interesting features not observed before. It is also found that, even in the regime of intermediate modulation strength, the density dependence of the spin splitting of energy levels, either for a PMLS or a MMLS, can be qualitatively understood within the picture of a 2DES in a perpendicular magnetic field with the modulation viewed as a perturbation. The RSA-based Password-Authenticated Key Exchange (PAKE) protocols have been proposed to realize both mutual authentication and generation of secure session keys where a client is sharing his/her password only with a server and the latter should generate its RSA public/private key pair (e, n), (d, n) every time due to the lack of PKI (Public-Key Infrastructures). One of the ways to avoid a special kind of off-line (so called e-residue) attacks in the RSA-based PAKE protocols is to deploy a challenge/response method by which a client verifies the relative primality of e and φ(n) interactively with a server. However, this kind of RSA-based PAKE protocols did not give any proof of the underlying challenge/response method and therefore could not specify the exact complexity of their protocols since there exists another security parameter, needed in the challenge/response method. In this paper, we first present an RSA-based PAKE (RSA-PAKE) protocol that can deploy two different challenge/response methods (denoted by Challenge/Response Method1 and Challenge/Response Method2). The main contributions of this work include: (1) Based on the number theory, we prove that the Challenge/Response Method1 and the Challenge/Response Method2 are secure against e-residue attacks for any odd prime e; (2) With the security parameter for the on-line attacks, we show that the RSA-PAKE protocol is provably secure in the random oracle model where all of the off-line attacks are not more efficient than on-line dictionary attacks; and (3) By considering the Hamming weight of e and its complexity in the RSA-PAKE protocol, we search for primes to be recommended for a practical use. We also compare the RSA-PAKE protocol with the previous ones mainly in terms of computation and communication complexities.

Some progress in the research of GaN based LED with photonic crystal structure has been made recently. Based on the photonic crystal's photonic band gap effect and photon grating diffraction principle, the extraction efficiency of LED with photonic crystal can be improved. In this paper, the restriction on AlGaInP LED's extraction efficiency is analyzed, and the photonic crystal is introduced in to the AlGaInP LED to improve the extraction efficiency. The theoretical analyses and the experiment results show that the output luminous intensity of LED with photonic crystal is improved by 16%, which results from some effect of the GaN based LED with photonic crystal.

A formalism based on a chiral quark model (chi QM) approach complemented with a one-gluon-exchange model, to take into account the breakdown of the SU(6)circle times O(3) symmetry, is presented. The configuration mixing of wave functions for nucleon and resonances are derived. With few adjustable parameters, differential cross-section and polarized-beam asymmetry for the gamma p -> eta p process are calculated and successfully compared with the data in the center-of-mass energy range from threshold to 2 GeV. The known resonances S-11(1535), S-11(1650), P-13(1720), D-13(1520), and F-15(1680), as well as two new S-11 and D-15 resonances, are found to be dominant in the reaction mechanism. Moreover, connections among the scattering amplitudes of the chi QM approach and the helicity amplitudes, as well as decay widths of resonances, are established. Possible contributions from the so-called missing resonances are investigated and found to be negligible.

In this paper high-order harmonic generation (HHG) spectra and the ionization probabilities of various charge states of small cluster Na-2 in the multiphoton regimes are calculated by using time-dependent local density approximation (TDLDA) for one-colour (1064 nm) and two-colour (1064 nm and 532 nm) ultrashort (25 fs) laser pulses. HHG spectra of Na2 have not the large extent of plateaus due to pronounced collective effects of electron dynamics. In addition, the two-colour laser field can result in the breaking of the symmetry and generation of the even order harmonic such as the second order harmonic. The results of ionization probabilities show that a two-colour laser field can increase the ionization probability of higher charge state.

We investigate hard photon production of the near-collinear bremsstrahlung and a new process called the inelastic pair annihilation, fully including the LPM effect, in a chemically equilibrating quark-gluon plasma at finite baryon density, and find that the effect of the system evolution on the photon production and large contribution of the bremsstrahlung make the total photon yield of the two processes as a strongly increasing function of the initial quark chemical potential.

Two series of sulfonated poly(phenylquinoxaline)s (SPPQ-x and SPPQ(O)-x, x refers to molar percentage of sulfonated tetraamine monomer) were first synthesized from a sulfonated tetraamine (4,4'-bis(3,4-diaminophenoxy)biphenyl-3.3'-disulfonic acid) and two aromatic bisbenzils (4-phenylglyoxalylbenzil and p,p'-oxydibenzil) in a mild condition. The structures of SPPQ-x and SPPQ(0)-x were characterized by IR and H-1 NMR spectra. The properties of these polymer films, such as water uptake, water swelling ratio, proton conductivity, thermal properties, methanol permeability, hydrolytic and oxidative stability were also investigated. The resulting polymers generally showed good solubility in DMAc and DMSO. Flexible and tough membranes with high mechanical strength were prepared. They show very high thermal, thermooxidative, hydrolytic stabilities and low methanol permeability. SPPQ-100 with the IEC value (2.41 mmol/g) displays the conductivity of 0.1 S/cm and a swelling ratio of 7.3% at 100 degrees C.

Two novel coordination polymers Ni-4(CH3O)(4)(CH3OH)(4)(dca)(4) (1) and Co-4(CH3O)(4)(CH3OH)(4)(dca)(4) (2) have been synthesized by solvethermal reaction. X-ray single-crystal analysis reveals that the two complexes are isostrutural and possess 3D frameworks that are built from the M4O4(M= Ni (1) and Co (2)) cubanelike building blocks linked by dicyanamide (dca) bridges. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility was measured and the DC experiment data were fitted using the Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian.

A novel sulfonated aromatic dichloride monomer was successfully prepared by the reaction of 2, 5-dichlorobenzophenone with fuming sulfuric acid. Copolymerization of this monomer in the form of sodium salt (1) with N-(4-chloro-2-trifluoromethylphenyl)-5-chloro-1,8-naphthalimide (2) or bis(N-(4-chloro-2-trifluoromethylphenyl)1,4,5,8-naphthalimide (3) generated two series of novel poly(arylene-co-naphthalimide) s I-x and II-x where x represents the content of the sulfonated monomer. The synthesized copolymers with the -SO3H group in the side chains possessed high molecular weights revealed by their high viscosity and the formation of tough and flexible membranes. The copolymers exhibited excellent stability toward water and oxidation due to the introduction of the hydrophobic CF3 groups. The sulfonated copolyimides that incorporated with 1,8-naphthalimide (I-x) exhibited better hydrolytic and oxidative stabilities than those with 1,4,5,8-naphthalimide. Copolymer I-50 membrane endured for more than 83 h in Fenton's reagent at room temperature. The mechanical properties of I-50 membrane kept almost unchanged after immersing membrane in boiling water for 196 h. The proton conductivities of copolymer films increased with increasing IEC and temperature, reaching values above 6.8 x 10(-1) S/cm at 80 degrees C.
