Tässä työssä käsitellään globaalin toimitusprojektin tiedonhallintaa. Työn pääpaino on modernin toimintaympäristön tiedonhallinnalle asettamien vaatimuksien kuvaamisessa. Lisäksi perehdytään projektin suunnittelun ja ohjauksen tekniikoihin integroidussa projektinohjausjärjestelmässä. Tiedonhallinnalla on erityisen merkittävä rooli toimitusprojektissa, jossa toimittajalla ei ole omaa valmistusta.Työn tavoitteena oli kehittää tiedonhallintamalli toimitusprojektille, joka on hajautettu useisiin eri toimipaikkoihin. Tämä malli on kehitetty pääasiassa selkeyttämään toimintaympäristöä, havaitsemaan tiedonhallinnan puutteita ja luomaan taustaa jatkokehitystä varten.Työssä koottu materiaali perustuu pääasiassa haastatteluihin, palavereihin, erilaisiin sisäisiin raportteihin, kirjallisuuteen ja itsenäiseen selvitystyöhön. Suunnitteluprojektia käytetään esimerkkinä aikataulu- ja resurssienhallinnan työkalun laajemmasta käytöstä sekä tuloksenarvomenetelmään tutustuttamiseen.

Tapaustutkimuksessa kansallisesta osaamispääomarekisteristä ja kansalaisen sähköisestä ansioluettelosta selvitettiin julkishallinnon tietojärjestelmän hallinnon sijoittamista, jotta se mahdollisimman hyvin tukisi yhtäältä järjestelmän kehittämistä tuottavasti ja toisaalta saisi käyttöönsä mahdollisimman laajan taustatietämyksen. Tutkimuskysymyksillä selvitettiin, miten järjestelmä tulisi organisoida, jotta palvelut paranisivat ja tuottavuus lisääntyisi. Kysymystä organisoitumisesta ja hallinnoinnista lähestyttiin projektijohtamisen ja tietojohtamisen käsitteistä lähtien. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin erilaisia käyttäjänäkökulmia ja hahmotettiin järjestelmän erilaisia asiakkaita sekä sidosryhmiä. Empiirisenä viitekehyksenä käytettiin valtionhallinnon asiakirjoja, OpetusTIME –valmisteluryhmän kokouskeskusteluja sekä muita aiheeseen liittyviä tietolähteitä. Keskeinen havaintoni oli, että rakennettaessa tietojärjestelmää valtionhallinnon verkostomaisessa tilaaja-tuottaja –toiminnassa on olennaista erottaa prosessivastuu ja tuotantovastuu toisistaan. Toimintamallissa on kriittistä, miten johtoryhmä onnistuu ohjaustehtävässään. Lisäksi on huolehdittava prosessien mallinnuksen onnistumisesta.

Avec cette thèse de doctorat nous proposons une réflexion transversale concernant les relations entre infrastructures de transport et développement territorial dans des espaces dits « intermédiaires ». Le concept d'espace intermédiaire, relativement nouveau en géographie, est conçu en fonction d'une double approche : celle des infrastructures où les espaces intermédiaires constituent des zones de transit obligées entre des pôles urbains hiérarchiquement supérieurs (par rapport une échelle horizontale) et celle des frontières où les espaces intermédiaires constituent des territoires de coopération entre différents niveaux politico-institutionnels (par rapport à une échelle verticale). Cette problématique de recherche est traitée aussi bien du point de vue théorique qu'avec des études de cas portant sur les effets des nouvelles infrastructures de transports dans la région transfrontalière insubrique (entre le Canton du Tessin et la Lombardie). L'objectif visé est de défendre un scénario d'organisation spatiale polycentrique à plusieurs niveaux comme solution pour le développement durable et cohérent de ces espaces intermédiaires. Ainsi, pour le « niveau macro », nous proposons une analyse des changements d'accessibilité spatiale et des potentiels de développement territorial pour les agglomérations concernées par la mise en service du nouveau tunnel ferroviaire de base du Monte Ceneri (TBC) et de la nouvelle ligne Lugano/Como-Mendrisio-Varese-Malpensa (FMV) à l'horizon 2020. Pour le « niveau meso », nous analysons les effets de la nouvelle ligne FMV en termes de potentiel de densification polycentrique autours des gares ferroviaires. Pour le « niveau micro », nous proposons une analyse sur les comportements de mobilité ainsi que des améliorations ciblées du système de transport pour la ville de Mendrisio visant à promouvoir le développement polycentrique de cette commune. De plus, un système d'analyse permettant de mettre en lien les divers facteurs explicatifs dans l'analyse des relations entre les nouvelles infrastructures de transport et les effets sur la mobilité et le développement territorial est également élaboré et testé dans notre recherche. -- With this Ph.D. thesis we investigate the relationship between transport infrastructures and territory development inside the so called "in-between spaces". The idea of "in-between space", relatively novel in geography, is the formal outcome of a double approach: the one of the infrastructures, saying that these spaces can be described as areas of constrained transit between urban centres of superior hierarchical level (on a horizontal scale), and the one of the borders, stating that in-between spaces are areas of cooperation between various political-institutional levels. The above mentioned research issues are deepened both at theoretical and empirical level, being the latter based on field studies of the cross-boundary Western-Lombard area (between the Swiss canton of Ticino and the Italian region of Lombardy). This research pursues the goal of defending the argument that a multi-level polycentric spatial scenario can be a possible solution fora sustainable development of the above described in- between areas. From a "macro" perspective, what we submit here is an analysis on the expected changes in spatial accessibility and on the potential territorial development for the built-up areas influenced by the construction of the new train tunnel of the Monte Ceneri (TBC) and of the new railway line Lugano/Como-Mendrisio-Varese-Malpensa (FMV). At a "meso" level we analyse the effects exerted by the new FMV line taking into account the potential densification of the areas surrounding the railway stations. Finally, at a "micro" level, we analyse the mobility behaviours in the town of Mendrisio and we propose some possible improvements to the local public transport system, with the scope to promote a polycentric development of this municipality. Improving educational quality is an important public policy goal. However, its success requires identifying factors associated with student achievement. At the core of these proposals lies the principle that increased public school quality can make school system more efficient, resulting in correspondingly stronger performance by students. Nevertheless, the public educational system is not devoid of competition which arises, among other factors, through the efficiency of management and the geographical location of schools. Moreover, families in Spain appear to choose a school on the grounds of location. In this environment, the objective of this paper is to analyze whether geographical space has an impact on the relationship between the level of technical quality of public schools (measured by the efficiency score) and the school demand index. To do this, an empirical application is performed on a sample of 1,695 public schools in the region of Catalonia (Spain). This application shows the effects of spatial autocorrelation on the estimation of the parameters and how these problems are addressed through spatial econometrics models. The results confirm that space has a moderating effect on the relationship between efficiency and school demand, although only in urban municipalities.

This thesis deals with a hardware accelerated Java virtual machine, named REALJava. The REALJava virtual machine is targeted for resource constrained embedded systems. The goal is to attain increased computational performance with reduced power consumption. While these objectives are often seen as trade-offs, in this context both of them can be attained simultaneously by using dedicated hardware. The target level of the computational performance of the REALJava virtual machine is initially set to be as fast as the currently available full custom ASIC Java processors. As a secondary goal all of the components of the virtual machine are designed so that the resulting system can be scaled to support multiple co-processor cores. The virtual machine is designed using the hardware/software co-design paradigm. The partitioning between the two domains is flexible, allowing customizations to the resulting system, for instance the floating point support can be omitted from the hardware in order to decrease the size of the co-processor core. The communication between the hardware and the software domains is encapsulated into modules. This allows the REALJava virtual machine to be easily integrated into any system, simply by redesigning the communication modules. Besides the virtual machine and the related co-processor architecture, several performance enhancing techniques are presented. These include techniques related to instruction folding, stack handling, method invocation, constant loading and control in time domain. The REALJava virtual machine is prototyped using three different FPGA platforms. The original pipeline structure is modified to suit the FPGA environment. The performance of the resulting Java virtual machine is evaluated against existing Java solutions in the embedded systems field. The results show that the goals are attained, both in terms of computational performance and power consumption. Especially the computational performance is evaluated thoroughly, and the results show that the REALJava is more than twice as fast as the fastest full custom ASIC Java processor. In addition to standard Java virtual machine benchmarks, several new Java applications are designed to both verify the results and broaden the spectrum of the tests.

OBJECTIVES: Polypharmacy is one of the main management issues in public health policies because of its financial impact and the increasing number of people involved. The polymedicated population according to their demographic and therapeutic profile and the cost for the public healthcare system were characterised. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: Primary healthcare in Barcelona Health Region, Catalonia, Spain (5 105 551 inhabitants registered). PARTICIPANTS: All insured polymedicated patients. Polymedicated patients were those with a consumption of ≥16 drugs/month. MAIN OUTCOMES MEASURES: The study variables were related to age, gender and medication intake obtained from the 2008 census and records of prescriptions dispensed in pharmacies and charged to the public health system. RESULTS: There were 36 880 polymedicated patients (women: 64.2%; average age: 74.5±10.9 years). The total number of prescriptions billed in 2008 was 2 266 830 (2 272 920 total package units). The most polymedicated group (up to 40% of the total prescriptions) was patients between 75 and 84 years old. The average number of prescriptions billed monthly per patient was 32±2, with an average cost of 452.7±27.5. The total cost of those prescriptions corresponded to 2% of the drug expenditure in Catalonia. The groups N, C, A, R and M represented 71.4% of the total number of drug package units dispensed to polymedicated patients. Great variability was found between the medication profiles of men and women, and between age groups; greater discrepancies were found in paediatric patients (5-14 years) and the elderly (≥65 years). CONCLUSIONS: This study provides essential information to take steps towards rational drug use and a structured approach in the polymedicated population in primary healthcare.

The concept of research and the controversy among classical models for C, T & I, outdated by the development of knowledge and Post-modern society needs were revisited through the (3) Quadrants advanced by Donald Stokes in the mid-nineties. The scientific community to fit into these Quadrants was faced with many difficulties and reacted by issuing pseudo-facts, accepted by under-prepared technocrats as viable justifications for conducting research in face of these new paradigms. In a poor country full of contrast and needs such as Brazil, this attitude satisfies the bureaucracy and academic elite, but frustrates government and society, that do not get, in the expected measure, the benefits of their commitment with the Teaching, Research and Extension Sectors mainly embedded in the Public University system. An extension, in fact a contradictory approach, to Pasteur's Quadrant, is proposed to characterize this situation: The Syndrome of Ruetsap's Quadrant.

This work proposed a procedure to examine ashes produced in burning lubricating oils used in public transportation, in Teresina PI. Sulphanilic acid was added to the oil samples, which were burned at 550 °C for three hours and 650 °C for two hours. The ash solutions were analyzed by FAAS and there were significant differences in the metal contents of the waste oil produced from normal car service. The quantification limits in μg g-1 were 5.9 (Fe), 4.4 (Pb), 1.7 (Ni), 2.1 (Cu), and 1.2 (Zn). The results showed positive accuracy and precision with recoveries between 88 and 108%, and RSD lower than 10%.

Tämän työn tavoitteena on luoda Turun yliopistolliselle keskussairaalalle kestävän kehityksen mukainen työmatkaliikkumissuunnitelma, jonka avulla lisätään kestävien liikkumismuotojen käyttöä, kustannusnäkökulma huomioon ottaen. Lisäksi tavoitteena on ratkaista nykyisen pysäköintijärjestelyn ongelmia. Työn teoriaosuudessa on esitetty kestävän liikkumisen, työssä hyödynnettävän kustannuslaskennan ja liikkumissuunnitelman luomisen vaiheiden periaatteet. Empiriaosuudessa rakennettava liikkumissuunnitelma perustuu näihin teorioihin. Työn keskeisenä tutkimusmenetelmänä on käytetty Webropol-pohjaista kyselyä, jolla tutkittiin työmatkaliikkumisen nykytilaa. Lisäksi kyselyllä tutkittiin työntekijöiden mielipiteitä mahdollisista kehitystoimenpiteistä. Työntekijöiden vuosittaisista työmatkakilometreistä 16,9 miljoonaa kuljettiin yksityisautolla, mikä on noin 65 % kaikista työmatkakilometreistä. Yksityisautoilu aiheuttaa kulkumuodoista suurimmat päästöt kaikissa päästöluokissa. Pysäköinnin kustannuksia tutkittaessa havaittiin, että pysäköintioikeuden hinta on alhainen verrattuna parkkihallin rakennus- ja ylläpitokustannuksiin. Eri liikkumistapoja vertailtaessa havaittiin, että nykytilanteessa yksityisautoilu on lyhyillä työmatkoilla edullisempi kulkumuoto kuin julkinen liikenne. Toteutettavuus-vaikuttavuus-suhde huomioon ottaen, parhaimmat työmatkaliikkumisen kehitystoimenpiteet ovat osittain kustannettu työsuhdematkalippu työntekijöille, lukittavien pyörätelineiden sijoittaminen työpaikan välittömään läheisyyteen, kävely- ja pyöräreittien parempi talvikunnossapito, työnantajan kustantama vuosittainen polkupyörähuolto ja pysäköintioikeuden hinnankorotus. Toimenpiteiden jälkeen yksityisautoilu on kaikilla työmatkan pituuksilla kallein liikkumismuoto.

The worlds’ population is increasing and cities have become more crowded with people and vehicles. Communities in the fringe of metropolitans’ increase the traffic done with private cars, but also increase the need for public transportation. People have typically needs traveling to work located in city centers during the morning time, and return to suburbs in the afternoon or evening. Rail based passenger transport is environmentally friendly transport mode with high capacity to transport large volume of people. Railways have been regulated markets with national incumbent having monopoly position. Opening the market for competition is believed to have a positive effect by increasing the efficiency of the industry. National passenger railway market is opened for competition only in few countries, where as international traffic in EU countries was deregulated in 2010. The objective of this study is to examine the passenger railway market of three North European countries, Sweden, Denmark and Estonia. The interest was also to get an understanding of the current situation and how the deregulation has proceeded. Theory of deregulation is unfolded with literature analyses and empirical part of the study is constructed from two parts. Customer satisfaction survey was chosen as a method to collect real life experiences from the passengers and measure their knowledge of the market situation and possible changes appeared. Interviews of experts from the industry and labor unions give more insights and able better understanding for example of social consequences caused from opening the market for competition. Expert interviews were conducted by using semi-structured theme interview. Based on the results of this study, deregulation has proceeded quite differently in the three countries researched. Sweden is the most advanced country, where the passenger railway market is open for new entrants. Denmark and Estonia are lagging behind. Opening the market is considered positive among passengers and most of the experts interviewed. Common for the interviews were the labour unions negative perspective concerning deregulation. Despite the fact deregulation is considered positive among the respondents of the customer satisfaction survey, they could not name railway undertakings operating in their country. Generally respondents were satisfied with the commuter trains. Ticket price, punctuality of trains and itinerary affect the most to customer satisfaction.

The management of port-related supply chains is challenging due to the complex and heterogeneous operations of the ports with several actors and processes. That is why the importance of information sharing is emphasised in the ports. However, the information exchange between different port-related actors is often cumbersome and it still involves a lot of manual work and paper. Major ports and port-related actors usually have advanced information systems in daily use but these systems are seldom interoperable with each other, which prevents economies of scale to be reached. Smaller ports and companies might not be equipped with electronic data transmission at all. This is the final report of the Mobile port (MOPO) project, which has sought ways to improve the management and control of port-related sea and inland traffic with the aid of ICT technologies. The project has studied port community systems (PCS) used worldwide, evaluated the suitability of a PCS for the Finnish port operating environment and created a pilot solution of a Finnish PCS in the port of HaminaKotka. Further, the dry port concept and its influences on the transportation system have been explored. The Mobile Port project comprised of several literature reviews, interviews of over 50 port-related logistics and/or ICT professionals, two different kinds of simulation models as well as designing and implementing of the pilot solution of the Finnish PCS. The results of these multiple studies are summarised in this report. Furthermore, recommendations for future actions and the topics for further studies are addressed in the report. The study revealed that the information sharing in a typical Finnish port-related supply chain contains several bottlenecks that cause delays in shipments and waste resources. The study showed that many of these bottlenecks could be solved by building a port community system for the Finnish port community. Almost 30 different kinds of potential services or service entities of a Finnish PCS were found out during the study. The basic requirements, structure, interfaces and operation model of the Finnish PCS were also defined in the study. On the basis of the results of the study, a pilot solution of the Finnish PCS was implemented in the port of HaminaKotka. The pilot solution includes a Portconnect portal for the Finnish port community system (available at https://www.portconnect.fi) and two pilot applications, which are a service for handling the information flows concerning the movements of railway wagons and a service for handling the information flows between Finnish ports and Finland-Russian border. The study also showed that port community systems can be used to improve the environmental aspects of logistics in two different ways: 1) PCSs can bring direct environmental benefits and 2) PCSs can be used as an environmental tool in a port community. On the basis of the study, the development of the Finnish port community system should be continued by surveying other potential applications for the Finnish PCS. It is also important to study if there is need and resources to extend the Finnish PCS to operate in several ports or even on a national level. In the long run, it could be reasonable to clarify whether there would be possibilities to connect the Finnish PCS as a part of Baltic Sea wide, European-wide or even worldwide maritime and port-related network in order to get the best benefit from the system

The antiandrogenic therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer represents an additional risk factor for the development of osteoporosis and fragility fractures. Still, bone health of patients on ADT is often not evaluated. After literature research we found that simple preventive measures can prevent bone loss in these patients, resulting in more cost-effective solutions to the public health system and family when compared to the treatment of fractures.

Joukkoliikenteen suosio hiipuu vähitellen, käyttö aste laskee. Tätä ongelmaa lähdimme ratkaisemaan sovelluksen ja pelillistämis menetelmän avulla. Menetelmää hyödyntäen tavoitteena oli luoda sovellus joka koukuttaa käyttäjän sovelluksen käyttöön ja sitä kautta joukkoliikenteen käyttöön. Pyrimme pysäyttämään joukkoliikenteen käyttöasteen laskun tai jopa kääntämään sen kasvuun. Varsinaista tulosta ei tällä työllä saatu, sillä aika ei vain riittänyt sovelluksen testaamiseen käytännössä. Pelillistämis menetelmiä kun tutkii ja vertaa sovellustamme niihin, niin sovelluksellamme on hyvä mahdollisuudet toimia joukkoliikenteen käytön lisäämisen työkaluna.

Työ käsittelee ihmisten motivointia hyödyntäen pelillistämistä. Työhön kuuluu myös mobiilisovelluksen toteutus, jolla pyritään vaikuttamaan julkisen liikenteen käytön kavattamiseen. Pelillistämisen käyttäminen sovelluksissa on kasvanut huimasti varsinkin mobiililaitteiden yleistymisen myötä. Pelillistämisellä pyritään vaikuttamaan ihmisten käyttäytymiseen pelielementtien avulla. Eli pelielementit, kuten pisteet ja saavutukset, tuodaan reaalimaailmaan ja käyttäjä palkitaan suorituksesta välittömästi. Työssä käydään läpi kaksi pelillistämistutkimusesimerkkiä, EcoIsland ja Orientation Passport, ja niiden havainnot. Pelillistämisen tehokkuuden tutkiminen on vaikeata, mutta yleisesti sitä pidetään toimivana. Kuitenkaan mikään taianomainen työkalu se ei ole.

ABSTRACTWhite clover is tolerant to many herbicides, making difficult a chemical control of this species during soybean crop establishments. The objective of this research was to select herbicides applied postemergence to control white clover in soybean and know the effects of this control on soybean yield. Seven herbicides were assessed, applied postemergence, with or without sequential application of glyphosate, and two control treatments (no control and total control of white clover). Glyphosate (with two sequential applications), fomesafen (with a sequential application of glyphosate), chlorimuron-ethyl and lactofen have shown a satisfactory control of white clover (above 80%). The lower control efficiency has resulted in lower production of soybeans.
