Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää millaisia haasteita IAS 36 Omaisuuserien arvon alentuminen -tilinpäätösstandardi luo tilintarkastajille. Huomiota kiinnitettiin erityisesti tilintarkastajan näkökulmaan arvonalentumistestauksen osa-alueista ja niissä esiintyvistä haasteista. Myös yritysten kohtaamia haasteita arvonalentumistestauksen laatimisessa käytiin läpi tutkimuksessa käyttäen hyödyksi IFRS-asiantuntijan näkökulmaa. Liikearvon arvonalentumistestauksen tuomia muutoksia liikearvon tilinpäätöskäsittelyyn verrattiin aiemmin käytössä olleisiin suunnitelman mukaisiin poistoihin. Tutkimusmenetelmä oli laadullinen ja empiirinen aineisto kerättiin neljän KHT-tilintarkastajan ja kahden IFRS-asiantuntijan haastatteluista. Haastattelut analysoitiin teemoittelemalla litteroitu haastatteluaineisto. Tutkimuksen tulokset viittaavat siihen, että tilintarkastajien kohtaamat haasteet nähdään liittyvän ensisijaisesti arvionvaraisiin tulevaisuuden rahavirtojen ennusteiden tarkastamiseen sekä monimutkaisen arvonalentumistestauksen osa-alueiden hallitsemiseen. Arvonalentumistestauksen nähdään lisäävän tilintarkastajan työmäärää sekä tilintarkastusriskiä.

Resumo Introdução: A doença renal crônica (DRC) compromete saúde e rotina de seu portador. No estágio V da DRC, o paciente torna-se elegível para iniciar a terapia substitutiva renal por hemodiálise (HD), diálise peritoneal (DP) ou transplante renal. O tipo de tratamento pode ser importante para melhorar a qualidade de vida do paciente. Objetivo: Comparar a qualidade de vida de pacientes renais crônicos em estágio V-D (em diálise) que realizam DP domiciliar ou HD. Métodos: Estudo transversal com coleta prospectiva, por conveniência, por meio da aplicação de questionários socioeconômicos e KDQOL-SF 36 em pacientes do ambulatório de DP e pacientes em HD da Fundação Pró-Renal e clínicas-satélite de Curitiba-PR. Resultados: Amostra de 338 pacientes, sendo 222 em HD, e 116 em DP. Idade média de 54,4 ± 15,28 anos para HD e 58,0 ± 13,99 para DP. Variáveis: situação do trabalho (p < 0,05), estímulo por parte da equipe de diálise (p < 0,01) e satisfação do paciente (p < 0,001) foram favoráveis à DP, enquanto que funcionamento físico (p < 0,05) e função emocional (p < 0,01) foram favoráveis à HD. Conclusão: Objetivamente, a DP mostrou-se melhor em relação à qualidade de vida por apresentar um maior número de itens com resultados significativos quando comparada à HD. Porém, as duas variáveis de maior significância encontradas na HD (funcionamento físico e funcionamento emocional) têm um impacto maior no bem-estar e no cotidiano no ambiente externo à clínica do que aquelas superiores na DP, tornando a HD mais favorável à qualidade de vida do paciente.

The aim of this dissertation was to examine the skills and knowledge that pre-service teachers and teachers have and need about working with multilingual and multicultural students from immigrant backgrounds. The specific goals were to identify pre-service teachers’ and practising teachers’ current knowledge and awareness of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching, identify a profile of their strengths and needs, and devise appropriate professional development support and ways to prepare teachers to become equitable culturally responsive practitioners. To investigate these issues, the dissertation reports on six original empirical studies within two groups of teachers: international pre-service teacher education students from over 25 different countries as well as pre-service and practising Finnish teachers. The international pre-service teacher sample consisted of (n = 38, study I; and n = 45, studies II-IV) and the pre-service and practising Finnish teachers sample encompassed (n = 89, study V; and n = 380, study VI). The data used were multi-source including both qualitative (students’ written work from the course including journals, final reflections, pre- and post-definition of key terms, as well as course evaluation and focus group transcripts) and quantitative (multi-item questionnaires with open-ended options), which enhanced the credibility of the findings resulting in the triangulation of data. Cluster analytic procedures, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), and qualitative analyses mostly Constant Comparative Approach were used to understand pre-service teachers’ and practising teachers’ developing cultural understandings. The results revealed that the mainly white / mainstream teacher candidates in teacher education programmes bring limited background experiences, prior socialisation, and skills about diversity. Taking a multicultural education course where identity development was a focus, positively influenced teacher candidates’ knowledge and attitudes toward diversity. The results revealed approaches and strategies that matter most in preparing teachers for culturally responsive teaching, including but not exclusively, small group activities and discussions, critical reflection, and field immersion. This suggests that there are already some tools to address the need for the support needed to teach successfully a diversity of pupils and provide in-service training for those already practising the teaching profession. The results provide insight into aspects of teachers’ knowledge about both the linguistic and cultural needs of their students, as well as what constitutes a repertoire of approaches and strategies to assure students’ academic success. Teachers’ knowledge of diversity can be categorised into sound awareness, average awareness, and low awareness. Knowledge of diversity was important in teachers’ abilities to use students’ language and culture to enhance acquisition of academic content, work effectively with multilingual learners’ parents/guardians, learn about the cultural backgrounds of multilingual learners, link multilingual learners’ prior knowledge and experience to instruction, and modify classroom instruction for multilingual learners. These findings support the development of a competency based model and can be used to frame the studies of pre-service teachers, as well as the professional development of practising teachers in increasingly diverse contexts. The present set of studies take on new significance in the current context of increasing waves of migration to Europe in general and Finland in particular. They suggest that teacher education programmes can equip teachers with the necessary attitudes, skills, and knowledge to enable them work effectively with students from different ethnic and language backgrounds as they enter the teaching profession. The findings also help to refine the tools and approaches to measuring the competencies of teachers teaching in mainstream classrooms and candidates in preparation.

O teste de condutividade elétrica tem sido excelente ferramenta para avaliar a qualidade de sementes de diversas espécies e, mais recentemente, estudos têm sido conduzidos visando verificar sua aplicabilidade em sementes florestais. Assim este trabalho objetivou estabelecer metodologia específica do teste de condutividade elétrica para sementes de branquilho. Foram usados três lotes de sementes resultantes do armazenamento em embalagens de vidro (Lote I), pano (Lote II) e papel (Lote III), em câmara fria (10ºC e 60% UR), por cinco meses, os quais foram submetidos ao teste de germinação, avaliando-se a porcentagem e o índice de velocidade de germinação. No teste de condutividade elétrica foram estudadas três quantidades de sementes por repetição (25, 50 e 75 sementes), três volumes de água deionizada (50, 75 e 100mL) e 11 tempos de embebição das sementes (2, 4, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48 e 72h), a 25ºC. O lote I apresentou maior porcentagem e velocidade de germinação. O teste de condutividade elétrica possibilitou a mesma discriminação dos lotes que o teste de germinação, em combinações variadas dos fatores estudados. Foi possível separar o lote de melhor qualidade fisiológica (Lote I) dos demais lotes, já a partir de 2 horas de embebição, utilizando-se amostras de 75 sementes embebidas em 50, 75 ou 100mL de água; ou amostras de 50 sementes embebidas em 50mL de água, a partir de 18 horas de embebição. Desta forma, pode-se recomendar o uso de 75 sementes, embebidas em 75mL de água, por 24 horas à temperatura de 25ºC, para a condução do teste de condutividade elétrica.

New emerging technologies in the recent decade have brought new options to cross platform computer graphics development. This master thesis took a look for cross platform 3D graphics development possibilities. All platform dependent and non real time solutions were excluded. WebGL and two different OpenGL based solutions were assessed via demo application by using most recent development tools. In the results pros and cons of the each solutions were noted.

The purpose of this qualitative research is to study what is the impact of event marketing on brand awareness in the context of electronic sport industry. Based on the research questions, the theoretical framework will be developed. This research will analyze earlier theories, and also searching more fresh literature to explain the current phenomenon in the eSport industry. In the empirical part, there were total of five case companies interviewed. The context of this research is eSport, which has its own chapter. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on event marketing and brand awareness. In this research, event marketing is analyzed from the event organizers perspective. In some occasions, event exhibitors’ perspective is also analyzed. In brand awareness, the focus is how to create a brand recognizable, recalled and from there top of mind in consumers’ minds. The results of this research revealed that many companies’ struggles on getting their brand recognizable. Some of the case companies lacks a strategy and don’t exactly know the core values of their customers. However some of the case companies were opposite. One reason behind this is that some of them has experience on the field and the companies have resources that covers them. Also the current strong brand has clearly a positive affect on their business.

Current research describes digital innovation largely similar to product innovation. Digital innovation is seen as an object of coherent activities, however in reality digital innovation results from convergence of variant technologies and those related actors with versatile business goals. To account for the dynamic nature of digital innovation, this study applies a service perspective to digital innovation. The purpose of the study is to understand how digital innovation emerges within a service ecosystem for autonomous shipping. The sub-objectives of this study are to 1) identify what factors motivate and demotivate actors to integrate resources for autonomous shipping, 2) explore the key technology areas to be integrated to realise the autonomous shipping concept, and 3) suggest how the technology areas are combined for mutual value creation within a service eco-system for autonomous shipping. Insights from autonomous driving were also included. This study draws on literatures on service innovation and service-dominant logic. The research was conducted as a qualitative exploratory case study. The data comprise interviews of 18 marine and automotive industry experts, 4 workshops, 4 seminars, and observations as well as various secondary data sources. The findings revealed that the key actors have versatile motivations regarding autonomous shipping. These varied from opportunities for single applications to occupying a central role in an autonomous technology platform. Thus, autonomous shipping can be seen as an umbrella concept comprising multiple levels. In technical terms, the development of the concept of autonomous shipping is largely based on combining existing technology solutions, which are gradually integrated towards more systemic entities comprising areas of the autonomous shipping concept. This study argues that a service perspective embraces the inherently complex and dynamic nature of digital innovation. This is captured in the developed research framework that describes digital innovation emerging on different levels of interaction: 1. strategic relationships for new solutions, 2. new local networks for technology platforms, and 3. global networks for new markets. The framework shows how the business models and motivations of digital innovation actors feed the emergence of digital innovation in overlapping service ecosystems that together comprise an innovation ecosystem for autonomous technologies. Digital innovation managers will benefit from seeing their businesses as part of a larger ecosystem of value co-creating actors. In orchestrating digital innovation within a service ecosystem, it is suggested that managers consider the resources, roles and institutions within the ecosystem. Finally, as autonomous shipping is at its infancy, the topic provides a number of interesting avenues for future research.

Ohjelmiston suorituskyky on kokonaisvaltainen asia, johon kaikki ohjelmiston elinkaaren vaiheet vaikuttavat. Suorituskykyongelmat johtavat usein projektien viivästymisiin, kustannusten ylittymisiin sekä joissain tapauksissa projektin täydelliseen epäonnistumiseen. Software performance engineering (SPE) on ohjelmistolähtöinen lähestysmistapa, joka tarjoaa tekniikoita suorituskykyisen ohjelmiston kehittämiseen. Tämä diplomityö tutkii näitä tekniikoita ja valitsee niiden joukosta ne, jotka soveltuvat suorituskykyongelmien ratkaisemiseen kahden IT-laitehallintatuotteen kehityksessä. Työn lopputuloksena on päivitetty versio nykyisestä tuotekehitysprosessista, mikä huomioi sovellusten suorituskykyyn liittyvät haasteet tuotteiden elinkaaren eri vaiheissa.

As críticas a teorias naturalistas/fisicalistas na filosofia da mente têm focado problemas conceituais fundamentados em qualia e experimentos de pensamento. Cabe questionar a validade de tais críticas, se o alvo das mesmas satisfaz as exigências de uma explicação científica e se as objeções envolvem asserções aparentemente ad hoc. Os filósofos da mente Tyler Burge e Alva Noë, sem fazer uso de tais recursos teóricos, propõem novas maneiras de questionar a neurociência atual. Suas perspectivas chamam atenção pelo foco em problemas empíricos e ainda assim revelam lacunas surpreendentes, no que fisicalistas tendem a considerar a ciência mais avançada da mente.

Kilpailu osaavasta työvoimasta on saanut yritykset panostamaan työnantajabrandiinsa. Työnantajabrandi yhtenä yrityksen brandipääoman osa-alueena auttaa yrityksiä erottumaan kilpailijoista ja siten houkuttelemaan yritykseen sopivia työntekijöitä sekä säilyttämään jo olemassa olevat työntekijät. Työnantajabrandi ei aina näyttäydy yrityksen työntekijöille tai –hakijoille niin kuin yritys sen haluaisi näyttäytyvän. Henkilöstöhallinnon ja johdon visio saattaa siis olla ristiriidassa sen kanssa, miten brandi todellisuudessa koetaan. Mikäli yritys ei pysty viestittämään oikeanlaista brandi-imagoa tai säilyttämään brandilupauksiaan vaikuttaa tämä yrityksen työntekijöiden sitoutumiseen ja tyytyväisyyteen negatiivisesti. Lisäksi yritykseen hakeutuu töihin yrityksen arvomaailmaan sopimattomia työntekijöitä. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää työnantajabrandin vision suhdetta todellisuuteen case-yrityksen kautta. Case-yritykseksi on valittu kansainvälinen konsultointiyritys, jolle osaava työvoima on elinehto. Tutkimusmenetelmäksi valittiin puolistrukturoidut haastattelut eli aihetta on lähestytty laadullisen menetelmän kautta. Tutkimukseen haastateltiin vision selvittämiseksi case-yrityksen henkilöstöhallintoa sekä perehdyttiin olemassa olevaan materiaaliin yrityksen brandista. Vision toteutumisen selvittämiseksi haastateltiin 19 työntekijää yrityksen kahdesta eri liiketoimintayksiköstä. Teorian pohjalta tarkentunut teoreettinen viitekehys pitää sisällään yrityksen psykologisen sopimuksen, sisäisen ja ulkoisen brandiviestinnän sekä organisaatiokulttuurin. Haastattelut rakennettiin näiden teemojen ympärille. Empiirisen osuuden tulokset vahvistavat teoreettista viitekehystä, jonka mukaan psykologisella sopimuksella, brandiviestinnällä ja organisaatiokulttuurilla on vaikutusta siihen, miten työnantajabrandi koetaan yrityksen työntekijöiden keskuudessa. Organisaatiokulttuurin ja sitä ilmentävän brandipersoonallisuuden osalta korostuu yrityksen työntekijöiden sopivuus ja yhtäläisyys yrityksen organisaatiokulttuuriin voimistamaan haluttua brandimielikuvaa. Psykologisen sopimuksen osalta empiria tukee todenmukaisen kuvan luomisen merkitystä yrityksen brandiviestinnässä. Lisäksi psykologisen sopimuksen osalta sosiaaliset edut nähdään tärkeänä tekijänä työnantajassa. Ihmisistä välittämisellä ja työilmapiirillä voidaan nähdä olevan suuri merkitys työntekijöiden työssä viihtymiselle. Työntekijät myös odottavat nykypäivänä nopeaa urakehitystä ja koulutukseen panostamista uraltaan. Lisäksi joustavuus ja vapaa-ajan ja työn tasapainottaminen koetaan tärkeiksi. Haastattelut tukevat myös teoreettisen viitekehyksen oletusta, että yrityksen visio työnantajabrandista eroaa usein siitä kuvasta, joka työntekijöille välittyy

Today, companies need to mind the environment in all their actions. Policies, regulations and growing pressure from environmentally conscious public are driving corporations to invest increasingly in their green images. Communication plays a key role in forming and maintaining that image. This thesis explores how six selected companies communicate about their environmental efforts and activities, and its linkage to their green images, in annual and sustainability reports and in Facebook. The companies come from the U.S. and Europe and operate in three different industries: ICT, oil and gas, and aerospace & defense. Qualitative and quantitative content analyses are conducted to examine 36 reports and 121 Facebook messages, collected from the period of 2010-2014, and from 2005 for comparison. The results show that although the quality and quantity of environmental disclosure is increasing, there is still room for improvement. Overall, disclosure in the ICT sector is on the highest level. The European companies disclose more and on average have stronger green images than the American ones. Emissions and ways to reduce them is by far the most covered topic in both continents and in all three industry sectors. The messages in Facebook are closer to advertising, and overall the platform is utilized surprisingly little.
