Debido a que en España se han dado diferentes accidentes con múltiples víctimas en diferentes puntos del país, se cree conveniente que cada ciudad tenga un plan de gestión de catástrofes con una serie de espacios habilitados para poder responder en caso de un accidente de estas características. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo presentar la habilitación de espacios aplicable en cualquier capital de provincia de España, tomando como ejemplo la ciudad de Girona. Se ha tomado la ciudad de Girona como modelo por presentar infraestructuras viarias, ferroviarias, portuarias y aeroportuarias cada vez más concurridas

The paper industry has been experiencing remarkable structural changes since paper demand growth has ceased and some markets are declining. One reason behind the declined demand is the Internet, which has partially substituted the newspaper as a source of information. Paper products alone can no longer provide livelihood, and the paper industry has to find new business areas. In this research, we studied radio frequency identification (RFID), and the market opportunities it could provide for paper industry. The research combined a quantitative industry analysis and qualitative interviews. RFID is a growing industry in the beginning of its life cycle, in which value chains and technologies still evolve significantly. The industry is going to concentrate on the future, and in the long term RFID-identifiers will probably be printed on paper substrate or directly onto products. Paper industry has the chance to enter the RFID industry, but it has to obtain the required competences, for example through acquisitions. The business potential RFID offers to paper industry is inadequate, and while reviewing new strategic options, the paper industry must consider more options, for example the entire printed intelligence.

A partir d’aquesta pregunta, n’han sorgit d’altres que han permès concretar aspectes més específics de la religió en aquest territori: quins llocs de culte utilitzaven?, quines divinitats veneraven?, qui s’encarregava de dur a terme el culte?, com es manifestava aquesta religió?, creien en el més enllà?, quins ritus o pràctiques cultuals realitzaven?

En aquest treball ens centrarem en una anàlisi del llenguatge turístic des del punt de vista de les situacions comunicatives on és utilitzat. Es pretén donar valor a aquest element patrimonial com un referent en la identitat dels palencs i aconseguir oferir un servei de qualitat al visitant adaptant-se a les necessitats de cada col•lectiu. The level of training provided by small firms to their employees is below that provided by their larger counterparts. The provision of firm-related training is believed to be associated to certain characteristics of the firm. In this paper we argue that small firms provide fewer training opportunities as they are less likely to be associated with these characteristics than large firms. The suitability of estimating training decisions as a double-decision process is examined here: first, a firm has to decide whether to provide training or not and, second, having decided to do so, the amount of training to provide. The differences in training provision between small and large firms are decomposed in order to analyse the individual contribution of these characteristics to explaining the gap. The results show that small firms face greater obstacles in accessing training and that the main reasons for that are related to their technological activity and the geographical scope of the market in which they operate.

Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena on tutkia kohdeyrityksen strategista muutosta perinteisestä tuotetoimittajasta ratkaisujen toimittajaksi. Toimialan muutosta arvioidaan tarkemmin, jotta voidaan selvittää kuinka yrityksen tulisi mukauttaa resurssejaan ja kyvykkyyksiään sopeutuakseen muutoksen tuomiin uusiin haasteisiin. Tarkastelun alla on erityisesti yrityksen strateginen muutos ja kuinka löytää strategian kannalta ne dynaamiset kyvykkyydet joiden avulla yritys saa pysyvää kilpailuetua. Yritykset pyrkivät strategisessa suunnittelussaan pysyvään kilpailuetuun. Strategista johtamisen teorioita on esitetty useita ja niiden kautta on vaikea selittää nykyisin nopeasti muuttuvassa toimintaympäristössä toimivien yritysten menestystä. Dynaamisten kyvykkyyksistä on haettu selitystä menestyksen taakse. Yritysten tavoitellessa kokonaan uusia liiketoiminta-alueita niihin kohdistuu suuria muutoksia niin ulkoisesti kuin sisäisestikin. Tällöin on kriittistä tunnistaa ne ydinkyvykkyydet joiden avulla voidaan menestyä uusilla liiketoiminta-alueilla. Työn ensimmäisessä osassa esitetään strategiaan ja kyvykkyyksiin liittyviä teorioita. Teoriaosiossa tarkastellaan myös palveluyritykseksi muuntautumisen haasteita, jonka jälkeen esitellään kohdeyrityksen strategiset tavoitteet ja kuinka puuttuvia resursseja voidaan tunnistaa. Resurssipohjaisen lähestymistavan avulla päästiin hyvin käsiksi toimialan muutoksen aiheuttamiin puuttuviin resursseihin. Analyysin aikana tunnistettiin puutteita tavoitteisiin nähden ja tässä työssä nousi yhtenä keskeisimpänä esille ICT-osaaminen kohdeyrityksen siirtyessä laitevalmistajan roolista kohti ratkaisun toimittajaa. Tutkimuksen perusteella voidaan todeta, että resurssipohjaisen lähestymistavan avulla voidaan tunnistaa tämän tyyppisessä yrityksessä resurssipuutteita joita kehittämällä yritys voi saavuttaa pysyvää kilpailuetua.

This paper investigates the extent to which the gap in total factor productivity between small and large firms is due to differences in the endowment of factors determining productivity and to the returns associated with these factors. We place particular emphasis on the contribution of differences in the propensity to innovate and in the use of skilled labor across firms of different size. Empirical evidence from a representative sample of Spanish manufacturing firms corroborates that both differences in endowments and returns to innovation and skilled labor significantly contribute to the productivity gap between small and large firms. In addition, it is observed that the contribution of innovation to this gap is caused only by differences in quantity, while differences in returns have no effect; in the case of human capital, however, most of the effect can be attributed to increasing differences in returns between small and large firms.

Empirical evidence is compelling that large firms are more productive than small firms. The hypothesis in this paper is that the productivity differences between small and large firms are associated with two of the main determinants of a firm’s performance: the human and technological capital that firms incorporate. We suggest that the contribution of these factors in explaining the productivity-size gap might not only be due to the fact that large firms make a more extensive use of them, but also because large firms obtain higher returns from their investment in human and technological capital. The evidence we obtain for a comprehensive sample of Spanish manufacturing firms (1990-2002) supports this hypothesis, which has important implications for the effectiveness of policies designed to improve productivity in SMEs by stimulating innovation and the use of more skilled workers.

Les segones residencies han estat un dels veritables motors del creixement del nombre d'habitatges a la demarcació de Girona, especialment durant la segona meitat del segle XX. L'explotació i especialització de la zona Costa Brava és i ha estat un dels fenòmens mes importants en el panorama constructor no només de la província sinó a nivell de Catalunya. En aquest estudi s'observa que aquest tipus d'habitatge a la Costa Brava ha sofert canvis en l'última dècada (1992-2002). I de fet, el creixement d’aquesta modalitat d'habitatges s'ha localitzat en nuclis específics

Both the competitive environment and the internal structure of an industrial organization are typically included in the processes which describe the strategic management processes of the firm, but less attention has been paid to the interdependence between these views. Therefore, this research focuses on explaining the particular conditions of an industry change, which lead managers to realign the firm in respect of its environment for generating competitive advantage. The research question that directs the development of the theoretical framework is: Why do firms outsource some of their functions? The three general stages of the analysis are related to the following research topics: (i) understanding forces that shape the industry, (ii) estimating the impacts of transforming customer preferences, rivalry, and changing capability bases on the relevance of existing assets and activities, and emergence of new business models, and (iii) developing optional structures for future value chains and understanding general boundaries for market emergence. The defined research setting contributes to the managerial research questions “Why do firms reorganize their value chains?”, “Why and how are decisions made?” Combining Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) and Resource-Based View (RBV) within an integrated framework makes it possible to evaluate the two dimensions of a company’s resources, namely the strategic value and transferability. The final decision of restructuring will be made based on an analysis of the actual business potential of the outsourcing, where benefits and risks are evaluated. The firm focuses on the risk of opportunism, hold-up problems, pricing, and opportunities to reach a complete contract, and finally on the direct benefits and risks for financial performance. The supplier analyzes the business potential of an activity outside the specific customer, the amount of customer-specific investments, the service provider’s competitive position, abilities to revenue gains in generic segments, and long-term dependence on the customer.
