This article examines the role that translation may have played in the development of medieval vernacular literature. It analyses an extract of an early 13th-c. translation into a hybrid French-Occitan vernacular of an 8th-c. historical text, the 'Liber Historiae Francorum'. The translation coincides with the adoption of narrative prose both in Old French and in Occitan literature, which reflects a growing interest in historical writings. The second half of the article compares the anecdote with the narrative structures and content of one of the troubadour 'vidas' and 'razos' - biographical texts in prose that emerged in the same period and regions as this translation. The article concludes by suggesting that the new vernacular genre shares narrative features with the early medieval Latin text that are preserved in its translation.

Although the sunspot-number series have existed since the mid-19th century, they are still the subject of intense debate, with the largest uncertainty being related to the "calibration" of the visual acuity of individual observers in the past. Daisy-chain regression methods are applied to inter-calibrate the observers which may lead to significant bias and error accumulation. Here we present a novel method to calibrate the visual acuity of the key observers to the reference data set of Royal Greenwich Observatory sunspot groups for the period 1900-1976, using the statistics of the active-day fraction. For each observer we independently evaluate their observational thresholds [S_S] defined such that the observer is assumed to miss all of the groups with an area smaller than S_S and report all the groups larger than S_S. Next, using a Monte-Carlo method we construct, from the reference data set, a correction matrix for each observer. The correction matrices are significantly non-linear and cannot be approximated by a linear regression or proportionality. We emphasize that corrections based on a linear proportionality between annually averaged data lead to serious biases and distortions of the data. The correction matrices are applied to the original sunspot group records for each day, and finally the composite corrected series is produced for the period since 1748. The corrected series displays secular minima around 1800 (Dalton minimum) and 1900 (Gleissberg minimum), as well as the Modern grand maximum of activity in the second half of the 20th century. The uniqueness of the grand maximum is confirmed for the last 250 years. It is shown that the adoption of a linear relationship between the data of Wolf and Wolfer results in grossly inflated group numbers in the 18th and 19th centuries in some reconstructions.

Apos uma década de rápido crescimento econômico na primeira década do século 21, Brasil e Turquia foram considerados duas das economias emergentes mais dinâmicas e promissoras. No entanto, vários sinais de dificuldades econômicas e tensões políticas reapareceram recentemente e simultaneamente nos dois países. Acreditamos que esses sinais e a sua simultaneidade podem ser entendidos melhor com um olhar retrospectivo sobre a história econômica dos dois países, que revela ser surpreendentemente paralela. Numa primeira parte, empreendemos uma comparação abrangente da história econômica brasileira e turca para mostrar as numerosas similaridades entre os desafios de política econômica que os dois países enfrentaram, assim como entre as respostas que eles lhes deram desde a virada da Grande Depressão até a primeira década do século 21. Essas escolhas de política econômica comuns dão forma a uma trajetória de desenvolvimento notavelmente análoga, caracterizada primeiro pela adoção do modelo de industrialização por substituição das importações (ISI) no contexto da recessão mundial dos anos 1930; depois pela intensificação e crise final desse modelo nos anos 1980; e finalmente por duas décadas de estabilização e transição para um modelo econômico mais liberal. Numa segunda parte, o desenvolvimento das instituições econômicas e políticas, assim como da economia política subjacente nos dois países, são analisados comparativamente a fim de prover alguns elementos de explicação do paralelo observado na primeira parte. Sustentamos que o marco institucional estabelecido nos dois países durante esse período também têm varias características fundamentais em comum e contribui a explicar as escolhas de política econômica e as performances econômicas comparáveis, detalhadas na primeira parte. Este estudo aborda elementos do contexto histórico úteis para compreender a situação econômica e política atual nos dois países. Potencialmente também constitui uma tentativa de considerar as economias emergentes numa perspectiva histórica e comparativa mais ampla para entender melhor as suas fraquezas institucionais e adotar um olhar mais equilibrado sobre seu potencial econômico.

The study of algorithms for active vibrations control in flexible structures became an area of enormous interest, mainly due to the countless demands of an optimal performance of mechanical systems as aircraft, aerospace and automotive structures. Smart structures, formed by a structure base, coupled with piezoelectric actuators and sensor are capable to guarantee the conditions demanded through the application of several types of controllers. The actuator/sensor materials are composed by piezoelectric ceramic (PZT - Lead Zirconate Titanate), commonly used as distributed actuators, and piezoelectric plastic films (PVDF-PolyVinyliDeno Floride), highly indicated for distributed sensors. The design process of such system encompasses three main phases: structural design; optimal placement of sensor/actuator (PVDF and PZT); and controller design. Consequently, for optimal design purposes, the structure, the sensor/actuator placement and the controller have to be considered simultaneously. This article addresses the optimal placement of actuators and sensors for design of controller for vibration attenuation in a flexible plate. Techniques involving linear matrix inequalities (LMI) to solve the Riccati's equation are used. The controller's gain is calculated using the linear quadratic regulator (LQR). The major advantage of LMI design is to enable specifications such as stability degree requirements, decay rate, input force limitation in the actuators and output peak bounder. It is also possible to assume that the model parameters involve uncertainties. LMI is a very useful tool for problems with constraints, where the parameters vary in a range of values. Once formulated in terms of LMI a problem can be solved efficiently by convex optimization algorithms.

The study of algorithms for active vibration control in flexible structures became an area of enormous interest for some researchers due to the innumerable requirements for better performance in mechanical systems, as for instance, aircrafts and aerospace structures. Intelligent systems, constituted for a base structure with sensors and actuators connected, are capable to guarantee the demanded conditions, through the application of diverse types of controllers. For the project of active controllers it is necessary, in general, to know a mathematical model that enable the representation in the space of states, preferential in modal coordinates to permit the truncation of the system and reduction in the order of the controllers. For practical applications of engineering, some mathematical models based in discrete-time systems cannot represent the physical problem, therefore, techniques of identification of system parameters must be used. The techniques of identification of parameters determine the unknown values through the manipulation of the input (disturbance) and output (response) signals of the system. Recently, some methods have been proposed to solve identification problems although, none of them can be considered as being universally appropriate to all the situations. This paper is addressed to an application of linear quadratic regulator controller in a structure where the damping, stiffness and mass matrices were identified through Chebyshev's polynomial functions.

Objective. To define inactive disease (ID) and clinical remission (CR) and to delineate variables that can be used to measure ID/CR in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE). Methods. Delphi questionnaires were sent to an international group of pediatric rheumatologists. Respondents provided information about variables to be used in future algorithms to measure ID/CR. The usefulness of these variables was assessed in 35 children with ID and 31 children with minimally active lupus (MAL). Results. While ID reflects cSLE status at a specific point in time, CR requires the presence of ID for >6 months and considers treatment. There was consensus that patients in ID/CR can have <2 mild nonlimiting symptoms (i.e., fatigue, arthralgia, headaches, or myalgia) but not Raynaud's phenomenon, chest pain, or objective physical signs of cSLE; antinuclear antibody positivity and erythrocyte sedimentation rate elevation can be present. Complete blood count, renal function testing, and complement C3 all must be within the normal range. Based on consensus, only damage-related laboratory or clinical findings of cSLE are permissible with ID. The above parameters were suitable to differentiate children with ID/CR from those with MAL (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve >0.85). Disease activity scores with or without the physician global assessment of disease activity and patient symptoms were well suited to differentiate children with ID from those with MAL. Conclusion. Consensus has been reached on common definitions of ID/CR with cSLE and relevant patient characteristics with ID/CR. Further studies must assess the usefulness of the data-driven candidate criteria for ID in cSLE.

I Max Bill is an intense giornata of a big fresco. An analysis of the main social, artistic and cultural events throughout the twentieth century is needed in order to trace his career through his masterpieces and architectures. Some of the faces of this hypothetical mural painting are, among others, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Ernesto Nathan Rogers, Kandinskij, Klee, Mondrian, Vatongerloo, Ignazio Silone, while the backcloth is given by artistic avant-gardes, Bauhaus, International Exhibitions, CIAM, war events, reconstruction, Milan Triennali, Venice Biennali, the School of Ulm. Architect, even though more known as painter, sculptor, designer and graphic artist, Max Bill attends the Bauhaus as a student in the years 1927-1929, and from this experience derives the main features of a rational, objective, constructive and non figurative art. His research is devoted to give his art a scientific methodology: each work proceeds from the analysis of a problem to the logical and always verifiable solution of the same problem. By means of composition elements (such as rhythm, seriality, theme and its variation, harmony and dissonance), he faces, with consistent results, themes apparently very distant from each other as the project for the H.f.G. or the design for a font. Mathematics are a constant reference frame as field of certainties, order, objectivity: ‘for Bill mathematics are never confined to a simple function: they represent a climate of spiritual certainties, and also the theme of non attempted in its purest state, objectivity of the sign and of the geometrical place, and at the same time restlessness of the infinity: Limited and Unlimited ’. In almost sixty years of activity, experiencing all artistic fields, Max Bill works, projects, designs, holds conferences and exhibitions in Europe, Asia and Americas, confronting himself with the most influencing personalities of the twentieth century. In such a vast scenery, the need to limit the investigation field combined with the necessity to address and analyse the unpublished and original aspect of Bill’s relations with Italy. The original contribution of the present research regards this particular ‘geographic delimitation’; in particular, beyond the deep cultural exchanges between Bill and a series of Milanese architects, most of all with Rogers, two main projects have been addressed: the realtà nuova at Milan Triennale in 1947, and the Contemporary Art Museum in Florence in 1980. It is important to note that these projects have not been previously investigated, and the former never appears in the sources either. These works, together with the most well-known ones, such as the projects for the VI and IX Triennale, and the Swiss pavilion for the Biennale, add important details to the reference frame of the relations which took place between Zurich and Milan. Most of the occasions for exchanges took part in between the Thirties and the Fifties, years during which Bill underwent a significant period of artistic growth. He meets the Swiss progressive architects and the Paris artists from the Abstraction-Création movement, enters the CIAM, collaborates with Le Corbusier to the third volume of his Complete Works, and in Milan he works and gets confronted with the events related to post-war reconstruction. In these years Bill defines his own working methodology, attaining an artistic maturity in his work. The present research investigates the mentioned time period, despite some necessary exceptions. II The official Max Bill bibliography is naturally wide, including spreading works along with ones more devoted to analytical investigation, mainly written in German and often translated into French and English (Max Bill himself published his works in three languages). Few works have been published in Italian and, excluding the catalogue of the Parma exhibition from 1977, they cannot be considered comprehensive. Many publications are exhibition catalogues, some of which include essays written by Max Bill himself, some others bring Bill’s comments in a educational-pedagogical approach, to accompany the observer towards a full understanding of the composition processes of his art works. Bill also left a great amount of theoretical speculations to encourage a critical reading of his works in the form of books edited or written by him, and essays published in ‘Werk’, magazine of the Swiss Werkbund, and other international reviews, among which Domus and Casabella. These three reviews have been important tools of analysis, since they include tracks of some of Max Bill’s architectural works. The architectural aspect is less investigated than the plastic and pictorial ones in all the main reference manuals on the subject: Benevolo, Tafuri and Dal Co, Frampton, Allenspach consider Max Bill as an artist proceeding in his work from Bauhaus in the Ulm experience . A first filing of his works was published in 2004 in the monographic issue of the Spanish magazine 2G, together with critical essays by Karin Gimmi, Stanislaus von Moos, Arthur Rüegg and Hans Frei, and in ‘Konkrete Architektur?’, again by Hans Frei. Moreover, the monographic essay on the Atelier Haus building by Arthur Rüegg from 1997, and the DPA 17 issue of the Catalonia Polytechnic with contributions of Carlos Martì, Bruno Reichlin and Ton Salvadò, the latter publication concentrating on a few Bill’s themes and architectures. An urge to studying and going in depth in Max Bill’s works was marked in 2008 by the centenary of his birth and by a recent rediscovery of Bill as initiator of the ‘minimalist’ tradition in Swiss architecture. Bill’s heirs are both very active in promoting exhibitions, researching and publishing. Jakob Bill, Max Bill’s son and painter himself, recently published a work on Bill’s experience in Bauhaus, and earlier on he had published an in-depth study on ‘Endless Ribbons’ sculptures. Angela Thomas Schmid, Bill’s wife and art historian, published in end 2008 the first volume of a biography on Max Bill and, together with the film maker Eric Schmid, produced a documentary film which was also presented at the last Locarno Film Festival. Both biography and documentary concentrate on Max Bill’s political involvement, from antifascism and 1968 protest movements to Bill experiences as Zurich Municipality councilman and member of the Swiss Confederation Parliament. In the present research, the bibliography includes also direct sources, such as interviews and original materials in the form of letters correspondence and graphic works together with related essays, kept in the max+binia+jakob bill stiftung archive in Zurich. III The results of the present research are organized into four main chapters, each of them subdivided into four parts. The first chapter concentrates on the research field, reasons, tools and methodologies employed, whereas the second one consists of a short biographical note organized by topics, introducing the subject of the research. The third chapter, which includes unpublished events, traces the historical and cultural frame with particular reference to the relations between Max Bill and the Italian scene, especially Milan and the architects Rogers and Baldessari around the Fifties, searching the themes and the keys for interpretation of Bill’s architectures and investigating the critical debate on the reviews and the plastic survey through sculpture. The fourth and last chapter examines four main architectures chosen on a geographical basis, all devoted to exhibition spaces, investigating Max Bill’s composition process related to the pictorial field. Paintings has surely been easier and faster to investigate and verify than the building field. A doctoral thesis discussed in Lausanne in 1977 investigating Max Bill’s plastic and pictorial works, provided a series of devices which were corrected and adapted for the definition of the interpretation grid for the composition structures of Bill’s main architectures. Four different tools are employed in the investigation of each work: a context analysis related to chapter three results; a specific theoretical essay by Max Bill briefly explaining his main theses, even though not directly linked to the very same work of art considered; the interpretation grid for the composition themes derived from a related pictorial work; the architecture drawing and digital three-dimensional model. The double analysis of the architectural and pictorial fields is functional to underlining the relation among the different elements of the composition process; the two fields, however, cannot be compared and they stay, in Max Bill’s works as in the present research, interdependent though self-sufficient. IV An important aspect of Max Bill production is self-referentiality: talking of Max Bill, also through Max Bill, as a need for coherence instead of a method limitation. Ernesto Nathan Rogers describes Bill as the last humanist, and his horizon is the known world but, as the ‘Concrete Art’ of which he is one of the main representatives, his production justifies itself: Max Bill not only found a method, but he autonomously re-wrote the ‘rules of the game’, derived timeless theoretical principles and verified them through a rich and interdisciplinary artistic production. The most recurrent words in the present research work are synthesis, unity, space and logic. These terms are part of Max Bill’s vocabulary and can be referred to his works. Similarly, graphic settings or analytical schemes in this research text referring to or commenting Bill’s architectural projects were drawn up keeping in mind the concise precision of his architectural design. As for Mies van der Rohe, it has been written that Max Bill took art to ‘zero degree’ reaching in this way a high complexity. His works are a synthesis of art: they conceptually encompass all previous and –considered their developments- most of contemporary pictures. Contents and message are generally explicitly declared in the title or in Bill’s essays on his artistic works and architectural projects: the beneficiary is invited to go through and re-build the process of synthesis generating the shape. In the course of the interview with the Milan artist Getulio Alviani, he tells how he would not write more than a page for an essay on Josef Albers: everything was already evident ‘on the surface’ and any additional sentence would be redundant. Two years after that interview, these pages attempt to decompose and single out the elements and processes connected with some of Max Bill’s works which, for their own origin, already contain all possible explanations and interpretations. The formal reduction in favour of contents maximization is, perhaps, Max Bill’s main lesson.

Die Morphogenese einer Pflanzenzelle wird in großem Maße durch die Dynamik kortikaler Mikrotubuli (MT) bestimmt, die auf die Zellwandsynthese Einfluß nehmen. In dieser Arbeit wurden die Transkriptmengen der alpha-Tubulin-Isotypen und des gamma-Tubulin während der Entwicklung des Gerstenblattes analysiert, um Zusammenhänge zu bereits beschriebenen Umwandlungen im kortikalen MT-Cytoskelett der Mesophyllzellen aufzudecken. Erstmals konnte bei einer höheren Pflanze die Genexpression auf RNA-Ebene innerhalb einer Tubulin-Multigenfamilie im Verlauf der Blattentwicklung umfassend dargestellt werden.Es wurden blattspezifische cDNA-Bibliotheken erstellt und mittels RT-PCR homologe DNA-Gensonden für die Screeningprozesse der cDNA-Bibliotheken hergestellt. cDNA-Sequenzen von alpha-, beta-, und gamma-Tubulin konnten isoliert werden. Weitere, weniger abundante alpha-Tubulin-Sequenzen wurden während zusätzlicher Screeningrunden über PCR-Ausschluß häufig vertretener, bereits bekannter Isotypen isoliert.Die cDNA-Sequenzen von insgesamt fünf verschiedenen Isotypen des alpha-Tubulin konnten aufgeklärt werden, drei Isotypen wiesen bis zu fünf im nicht kodierenden 3´-Bereich verkürzte Varianten auf, die aber in ihrer Anzahl deutlich unterrepräsentiert waren. Die abgeleiteten Aminosäuresequenzen umfassten bei drei Isotypen 451 Aminosäuren (AS), zwei Isotypen waren im C-Terminus um eine bzw. um zwei AS kürzer. Die fünf alpha-Tubulin-Isotypen wiesen charakteristische Expressionsmuster auf, die in drei Klassen unterteilbar waren. Die Isotypen HVATUB1 und HVATUB5 (MT-Band-Isotypen) hatten den maximalen Gehalt in Blattbereichen, in denen auch hauptsächlich Mesophyllzellen mit kortikalen MT-Bänderungen vorkommen, wobei HVATUB5 den am schwächsten exprimierte Isotyp darstellte. HVATUB3 (Random-MT-Isotyp) zeigte die stärksten Expressionsraten. Die im Meristem und meristemnahen Bereichen bereits recht hohe Abundanz erreichte erst nach der Zellstreckungszone in einer Blattzone das Maximum, in dem hauptsächlich Mesophyllzellen mit zerstreut angeordneten MT anzutreffen sind. Die Isotypen HVATUB2 und HVATUB4 (MImax-Isotypen) waren in mitotisch aktiven, basalen Blattbereichen dominant.Die cDNA-Sequenz vom gamma-Tubulin der Gerste, HVGTUB, wurde ermittelt; die abgeleitete Aminosäuresequenz bestand aus 469 AS. Das Auftreten einer im nicht kodierenden 3´-Bereich kürzeren Variante konnte erstmals bei pflanzlichem gamma-Tubulin beschrieben werden. Southernblot-Analysen ließen darauf schließen, daß gamma-Tubulin nur als Einzelkopie im Genom der Gerste vorkommt. gamma-Tubulin wurde im mitosereichen Meristem der Blattbasis am stärksten exprimiert. Da die Abnahme der Transkriptmenge weitaus langsamer verlief als die Abnahme der Zellteilungsaktivität, ist anzunehmen, daß gamma-Tubulin neben der Erfüllung von mitose- und zellteilungsspezifischen Funktionen auch eine Rolle im Zusammenhang mit der Dynamik des kortikalen MT-Cytoskeletts spielt. Einen ersten Schritt zur Aufklärung der Genfamilie des beta-Tubulin bei Gerste stellt die Isolierung drei verschiedener cDNA-Sequenzen von beta-Tubulin dar.

ZusammenfassungDie selbstkondensierende Gruppenübertragungspolymerisation von 2-[(2-Methyl-1-triethylsiloxy-1-propenyl)oxy]ethyl-methacrylat (MTSHEMA) und die Copolymerisation mit Methylmethacrylat und tert-Butylmethacrylat wurde untersucht. Da MTSHEMA eine polymerisierbare Methacryloyl-Einheit und eine zur Initiierung einer Gruppenübertragungspolymerisation befähigte Silylketenacetal-Einheit besitzt, führt die Homopolymerisation zu hyperverzweigten und die Copolymerisation zu hochverzweigten Polymeren.Bei der Homopolymerisation von MTSHEMA konnten nur niedrige Molekulargewichte erreicht werden. Dies wird auf Nebenreaktionen der aktiven Kettenenden zurückgeführt, welche die Carbonylgruppen nucleophil angreifen und, mit der Doppelbindung Kern-Einheit reagieren. Die Copolymerisation mit Methylmethacrylat verlauft ohne Nebenreaktionen. Durch die Variation des molaren Verhältnisses von MTSHEMA zu den Comonomeren war es möglich, das Molekulargewicht, den Verzweigungsgrad und dadurch die Viskosität in Lösung zu kontrollieren. Die Bestimmung der Molekulargewichtsverteilung sämtlicher Polymere erfolgte durch Kopplung der Gelpermeationschromatographie mit einem Viskositätsdetektor und einem Vielwinkel Lichtstreu-Photometer. Die aus dem Vergleich der Viskositäten und Trägheitsradien ermittelten Schrumpfungspa-rameter lassen Schlüsse auf den Verzweigungsgrad zu.Nach den Ergebnissen der viskoelastischen Spektroskopie folgt das Verhalten der verzweigten Polymere in der Schmelze der Rouse-Theorie und deutet damit auf die Abwesenheit von Verschlaufungen hin.Durch die Copolymerisation mit tert-Butylmethacrylat und MTSHEMA konnte hochverzweigtes Poly(tert-butylmethacrylat) synthetisiert werden. Die Verseifung dieser Polymere ergab verzweigte Polymethacrylsäure.

Der Sauerstoffsensor FNR (Fumarat-Nitratreduktase-Regulator) von Escherichia coli spielt eine wichtige Rolle beim Umschalten vom aeroben zum anaeroben Stoffwechsel. FNR ist ein Transkriptionsregulator, der im aktiven Zustand ein [4Fe4S]-Zentrum besitzt. Bei Kontakt mit Sauerstoff zerfällt das [4Fe4S]- zu einem [2Fe2S]-Zentrum und führt zum Verlust der Aktivität von FNR. Die Reaktionen, die zum Aufbau des [4Fe4S]-Zentrums und der reduktiven Aktivierung von aerob und anaerob isoliertem apoFNR führen, wurden in vivo und in vitro untersucht. Die Einfluß in vivo von Glutathion auf die Funktion von FNR und die Rolle von Glutathion beim Aufbau des [4Fe4S]-Zentrums in gereinigtem apoFNR zeigen die wichtige Bedeutung von Glutathion bei der de novo Assemblierung von [4Fe4S]FNR und bei der reduktiven Aktivierung von sauerstoff-inaktiviertem FNR. Die energetischen Parameter von E. coli und ihre Änderungen beim Übergang vom aeroben zum anaeroben Stoffwechsel wurden untersucht. Das elektrochemische Protonenpotential delta-p über der Cytoplasmamembran wurde im Gleichgewichtszustand in der aeroben Atmung und anaeroben Nitrat-, Fumarat- und Dimethylsulfoxid-Atmung bestimmt. Delta-p betrug in der aeroben Atmung -160 mV, in der anaeroben Atmung sank delta-p entgegen früheren Vermutungen lediglich um 20 mV. Die geringen Änderungen von delta-p können deshalb vermutlich nicht als regulatorisches Signal für das Umschalten vom aeroben zum anaeroben Stoffwechsel genutzt werden.

Tertiäre Vulkanite aus dem Eckfelder Maar, dem Hillscheider Diatrem und dem Hillscheid Basalt (Schlot) wurden petrologisch und geochemisch untersucht. Bis auf tonige Klasten aus dem Bohrkern des Eckfelder Maares handelt es sich bei allen weiteren Proben um undifferenzierte basische Vulkanite. Die tonigen Klasten aus dem Bohrkern müssen der ehemaligen Landoberfläche vor der Eruption des Eckfelder Maares zugerechnet werden, in dessen Krater sie während der Eruption hineingefallen sind. Bis auf die Proben des Hillscheid Basaltes sind die Proben alteriert. Die Alteration zeigt sich an der Bildung von Zeolithen und Calcitmineralisationen, die primär und sekundär gebildete Hohlräume aufgefüllt haben oder an einer vertonten Grundmasse der Proben, die daneben Mineraleinschlüsse (Spinell) und kantige Fremdgesteinsbruchstücke enthalten können. Bei den Proben mit vertonter Grundmasse handelt es sich um Palagonite, Umwandlungsprodukte aus Sideromelan (basaltischem Glas). Geochemische Analysen an Grundmassepräparaten der alterierten bis vertonten Proben zeigen, dass außer den immobilen Elementen Ti, Nb, Zr, Y alle weiteren Elemente teilweise bis vollständig abgereichert worden sind. Eine Ausnahme bildet Barium (Ba), welches z.T. in beträchtlichen Mengen in Zeolithen (Harmotom) angereichert wurde. Bei den Proben aus dem Eckfelder Maar kann die Alteration bis Vertonung der Proben alleine mit der Palagonitisierung und Verwitterung erklärt werden. Es gibt keine Hinweise auf Materialzufuhr und damit für sich anschließende hydrothermale Prozesse. Die Proben des Hillscheider Diatrem sind wesentlich geringer alteriert (glasige Grundmasse). Neuste Erkenntnisse aus einer Bohrung im Sommer 1999 im vermuteten Zentrum des Hillscheider Diatrems beschränken das Diatrem maximal auf einen kleineren Bereich im Nordosten der bisherigen Lokation. Bei der Bohrung stieß man nach 20 Meter auf Anstehendes. Im Hangschutt darüber fand man Blöcke des Hillscheid Basaltes. Eine geringere Größe der Lokation zusammen mit der geringen Alteration könnten auf deren Entstehung mit einer initialen Maarphase gefolgt von Schlackentätigkeit hinweisen. Die Schlacken könnten die ersten Ablagerungen vor Verwitterung geschützt haben. Allerdings gibt es keine Funde die eine Schlackentätigkeit belegen. Beim sogenannten 'Hillscheider Diatrem' könnte es sich aber auch um Hangschutt aus der Randbreccie des Hillscheider Basaltes handeln. Zusammen mit Bruchstücken aus dem Schlot des Hillscheid Basaltes wären die Palagonite des sogenannten 'Hillscheider Diatrem' erst in jüngster Zeit im Bereich einer Uferböschung zur Ablagerung gekommen. Dies würde allerdings das sogenannte 'Hillscheider Diatrem' in seiner Existenz in Frage stellen. Vergleiche der Proben des Hillscheid Basaltes mit basischen Hocheifelvulkaniten deuten auf kogenetische Beziehung aller Proben untereinander und ordnen die Proben des Hillscheid Basaltes geochemisch dem Hocheifelvulkanismus zu. REE- und weitere Spurenelementgehalte und auch deren Elementverhältnisse weisen für alle tertiären Eifelvulkanite gemeinsam auf Mantelschmelzen aus dem Bereich eines Granatperidotits mit niedrigen Aufschmelzgraden um ein Prozent hin. Vergleich der Elementverhältnisse hochinkompatibler Elemente im Bezug auf die Bildung mafischer Schmelzen mit primitivem Mantel deuten darauf hin, dass der Mantel im Bereich der Hocheifel verarmt ist an K, Rb, Sr und angereichert an Ba und eventuell an Nb. Ursachen für diese von typisch primären Mantelzusammensetzung abweichenden Verhältnisse könnten durch Mischungen von Mantelschmelzen mit lithosphärischem Mantel (K-Anomalie) und durch Anreicherungen mit fluiden Phasen (Ba-Anomalie) oder auch Schmelzen aus einem tieferliegenden Plume (Kelberger Hoch) verursacht worden sein. Die Synthese und Charakterisierung von Bisphenolato-Komplexen des Titans und Vanadiums werden beschrieben.Neben dem Methylkomplex wurde eine Reihe von Bisphenolato-Komplexen des Titan(IV) der Zusammensetzung (tbmp)(o-C6H4CH2NMe2)TiX (mit X = CH2SiMe3, CH2Ph, OTf) synthetisiert. Der Methylkomplex wurde mit B(C6F5)3 oder (tbmp)(tbmpH)Al zum Komplexkation [(tbmp)(o-C6H4CH2NMe2)Ti]+ umgesetzt und dessen Reaktivität gegenüber 1-Olefinen untersucht.Ausgehend von (tbmp)TiCl2 wurden der Dimethylkomplex (tbmp)TiMe2 und der Dibenzylkomplex (tbmp)Ti(CH2Ph)2 dargestellt und strukturell charakterisiert. Der Dibenzylkomplex liegt im Kristall als Dimer vor, verbrückt über ein Dioxan-Molekül, während der Dimethylkomplex auch im Feststoff monomer ist. Dies ist das erste Beispiel für die Koordinationszahl fünf bei Bisphenolato-Titan-Komplexen.Polymerisationsversuche mit (tbmp)TiMe2 und B(C6F5)3 weisen auf eine hohe Reaktivität und geringe Stabilität des aktivierten Komplexes hin, die zu geringen Polymer-Ausbeuten führt.Im Falle des Vanadiums konnten trotz Schwierigkeiten aufgrund der hohen Redoxaktivität dieses Elements mehrere Komplexe dargestellt werden. Synthetisiert und strukturell charakterisiert wurden der Komplex (mbmp)V(O)(CH2SiMe3)·B(C6F5)3, das erste Beispiel für ein Boranaddukt eines Oxokomplexes des fünfwertigen Vanadiums, und der erste Di(bisphenolato)-Komplex des vierwertigen Vanadiums, (tbmp)2V.Desweiteren gelang die Darstellung von (mbmp)V(O)(CH2SiMe2Ph)·B(C6F5)3, (tbmp)VCl(THF)2 und (mbmp)2V. Die Alkylkomplexe des fünfwertigen Vanadiums waren mit B(C6F5)3 für die Polymerisation von Ethen nicht aktivierbar. Hingegen bildete (tbmp)VCl(THF)2 mit DEAC ein sehr aktives System für die Polymerisation von Ethen.
