Education is the basis for economic and social development, but there are great inequalities in education and access to documentary resources, audiovisual and technology, a situation that affects school performance. The Organization of the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) found a correlation between levels of inequality in a country and performance: the greater the inequality, the worse the performance. Investment in education affects human development and benefit is obtained for the individual and society, which is necessary to ensure social equity, so that there is quality education for all. One of the fundamental purposes of the educational process is to train Costa Rican human thinking, analytical and critical of their environment. The purpose of that is acquired through various methods of academic achievement, learning, participation and constant communication of knowledge between the administrative staff, faculty and students. It is appropriate for schools and colleges have a school library or Resource Center for Learning, it is the gathering, analysis and work of the educational community, working with the intellectual growth of students, faculty, staff and community through access to different services and learning resources provided by the library or CRA.

The railway planning problem is usually studied from two different points of view: macroscopic and microscopic. We propose a macroscopic approach for the high-speed rail scheduling problem where competitive effects are introduced. We study train frequency planning, timetable planning and rolling stock assignment problems and model the problem as a multi-commodity network flow problem considering competitive transport markets. The aim of the presented model is to maximize the total operator profit. We solve the optimization model using realistic probleminstances obtained from the network of the Spanish railwa operator RENFE, including other transport modes in Spain

The Train Timetabling Problem (TTP) has been widely studied for freight and passenger rail systems. A lesser effort has been devoted to the study of high-speed rail systems. A modeling issue that has to be addressed is to model departure time choice of passengers on railway services. Passengers who use these systems attempt to travel at predetermined hours due to their daily life necessities (e.g., commuter trips). We incorporate all these features into TTP focusing on high-speed railway systems. We propose a Rail Scheduling and Rolling Stock (RSch-RS) model for timetable planning of high-speed railway systems. This model is composed of two essential elements: i) an infrastructure model for representing the railway network: it includes capacity constraints of the rail network and the Rolling-Stock constraints; and ii) a demand model that defines how the passengers choose the departure time. The resulting model is a mixed-integer programming model which objective function attempts to maximize the profit for the rail operator

Le système éducatif encourage une histoire positiviste, ordonnée, unilatérale et universelle; par l´incorporation de le découpage chronologique de l´histoire en quatre étapes. Mais, est-ce qu´il serait posible que les élèves puissent étudier leur propre présent? Mon commuication poursuit d´exposer, comme Saab affirmait, le présent est “le point de départ et d´arrivée de l´enseignement de l´histoire détermine les allers et les retours au passé”. La façon d´approcher l´enseignement de l´histoire est confortable. Il n´y a pas de questions, il n´y a pas de discussions. Cette vision de l´histoire interprétée par l´homme blancoccidental-hétérosexuel s´inscrit dans le projet de la modernité du Siècle des Lumières. Par conséquent, cette histoire obvie que nous vivons dans una société postmoderne de la suspicion, de la pensée débile. En ce qui concerne la problématique autour de la pollution audiovisuelle et la façon dont les enseignants et les élèves sont quotidiennement confrontés à ce problème. Par conséquent, il est nécessaire de réfléchir à la question de l´enseignement de l´histoire quadripartite. Actuellement, les médias et les nouvelles technologies sont en train de changer la vie de l´humanité. Il est indispensable que l´élève connaisse son histoire presente et les scénarioshistoriques dans l´avenir. Je pense en la nécessité d´adopter une didactique de l’histoire presente et par conséquent, nous devons utiliser la maîtrise des médias et de l´information. Il faut une formation des enseignants que pose, comme Gadamer a dit: “le passé y le présent se trouvent par une négociation permanente”. Una formation des enseignants qui permette de comprendre et penser l´histoire future / les histoires futures. À mon avis, si les élèves comprennent la complexité de leur monde et leurs multiples visions, les élèves seront plus tolérantes et empathiques.

On the 15th of April, 1897, a 19 year-old European resident of Baghdad, named Alexander Richard Svoboda, set out on a long journey to Europe by caravan, boat and train. From a large and influential family of merchants, artists, and explorers settled in Ottoman Iraq since the end of the 18th century, Alexander traveled in the company of his parents and a departing British diplomat accompanied by his retinue. They followed a circuitous route through the Middle East to Cairo and thence to Europe on a three and a half month journey which Alexander described day-by-day in a journal written in the Iraqi Arabic of his time.

This paper is on modeling and simulation for an offshore wind system equipped with a semi-submersible floating platform, a wind turbine, a permanent magnet synchronous generator, a multiple point clamped four level or five level full-power converter, a submarine cable and a second order filter. The drive train is modeled by three mass model considering the resistant stiffness torque, structure and tower in deep water due to the moving surface elevation. The system control uses PWM by space vector modulation associated with sliding mode and proportional integral controllers. The electric energy is injected into the electric grid either by an alternated current link or by a direct current link. The model is intend to be a useful tool for unveil the behavior and performance of the offshore wind system, especially for the multiple point clamped full-power converter, under normal operation or under malfunctions.

In these last years a great effort has been put in the development of new techniques for automatic object classification, also due to the consequences in many applications such as medical imaging or driverless cars. To this end, several mathematical models have been developed from logistic regression to neural networks. A crucial aspect of these so called classification algorithms is the use of algebraic tools to represent and approximate the input data. In this thesis, we examine two different models for image classification based on a particular tensor decomposition named Tensor-Train (TT) decomposition. The use of tensor approaches preserves the multidimensional structure of the data and the neighboring relations among pixels. Furthermore the Tensor-Train, differently from other tensor decompositions, does not suffer from the curse of dimensionality making it an extremely powerful strategy when dealing with high-dimensional data. It also allows data compression when combined with truncation strategies that reduce memory requirements without spoiling classification performance. The first model we propose is based on a direct decomposition of the database by means of the TT decomposition to find basis vectors used to classify a new object. The second model is a tensor dictionary learning model, based on the TT decomposition where the terms of the decomposition are estimated using a proximal alternating linearized minimization algorithm with a spectral stepsize.

The main goal of the Airborne project is to develop, at technology readiness level 8 (TRL8), a few selected robotic aerial technologies for quick localization of victims by avalanches by equipping drones with two forefront sensors used in SAR operations in case of avalanches, namely the ARVA and RECCO. This thesis focuses on the design, development, and guidance of the TRL8 quadrotor developed during the project. We present and describe the design method that allowed us to obtain an EMI shielded UAV capable of integrating both RECCO and ARVA sensors. Besides, is presented the avionics and power train design and building procedure in order to obtain a modular UAV frame that can be easily carried by rescuers and achieves all the performance benchmarks of the project. Additionally, in addition to the onboard algorithms, a multivariate regressive convolutional neural network whose goal is the localization of the ARVA signal is presented. On guidance, the automatic flight procedure is described, and the onboard waypoint generator algorithm is presented. The goal of this algorithm is the generation and execution of an automatic grid pattern without the need to know the map in advance and without the support of a control ground station (CGS). Moreover, we present an iterative trajectory planner that does not need pre-knowledge of the map and uses Bézier curves to address optimal, dynamically feasible, safe, and re-plannable trajectories. The goal is to develop a method that allows local and fast replannings in case of an obstacle pop up or if some waypoints change. This makes the novel planner suitable to be applied in SAR operations. The introduction of the final version of the quadrotor is supported by internal flight tests and field tests performed in real operative scenarios by the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI).

Understanding the natural and forced variability of the atmospheric general circulation and its drivers is one of the grand challenges in climate science. It is of paramount importance to understand to what extent the systematic error of climate models affects the processes driving such variability. This is done by performing a set of simulations (ROCK experiments) with an intermediate complexity atmospheric model (SPEEDY), in which the Rocky Mountains orography is increased or decreased to influence the structure of the North Pacific jet stream. For each of these modified-orography experiments, the climatic response to idealized sea surface temperature anomalies of varying intensity in the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) region is studied. ROCK experiments are characterized by variations in the Pacific jet stream intensity whose extension encompasses the spread of the systematic error found in Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) models. When forced with ENSO-like idealised anomalies, they exhibit a non-negligible sensitivity in the response pattern over the Pacific North American region, indicating that the model mean state can affect the model response to ENSO. It is found that the classical Rossby wave train response to ENSO is more meridionally oriented when the Pacific jet stream is weaker and more zonally oriented with a stronger jet. Rossby wave linear theory suggests that a stronger jet implies a stronger waveguide, which traps Rossby waves at a lower latitude, favouring a zonal propagation of Rossby waves. The shape of the dynamical response to ENSO affects the ENSO impacts on surface temperature and precipitation over Central and North America. A comparison of the SPEEDY results with CMIP6 models suggests a wider applicability of the results to more resources-demanding climate general circulation models (GCMs), opening up to future works focusing on the relationship between Pacific jet misrepresentation and response to external forcing in fully-fledged GCMs.

The increase of railways near the urban areas is a significant cause of discomfort for inhabitants due to train-induced vibration and noise. Vibration characteristics can vary widely according to the train type: for high-speed trains, if train speed becomes comparable to the ground wave speed, the vibration level becomes significant; for freight trains, due to their heavier weight and lower speed, the vibration amplitudes are greater and propagate at a more considerable distance from the track; for urban tramways, although the vibration amplitude is relatively low, they can have a negative structural effect on the closest buildings [51]. Therefore, to dampen the vibration level, it is possible to carry out some interventions both on the track and the transmission path. This thesis aims to propose and numerically investigate a novel method to dampen the train-induced vibrations along the transmission path. The method is called "resonant filled-trench (RFT)" and consists of a combination of expanded polystyrene (EPS) geofoam to stabilize the trench wall against the collapse and drowned cylindrical embedded inclusions inside the geofoam, which act as a resonator, reflector, and attenuator. By means of finite element simulations, we show that up to 50% higher attenuation than the open trench is achievable after overcoming the resonance frequency of the inclusion, i.e., 35Hz, which covers the frequency contents of the train-induced vibration. Moreover, depending on the filling material used for the inclusions, trench depth can be reduced up to 17% compared to the open trench showing the same screening performance as the open trench. Also, an RFT with DS inclusion installed in dense sand soil shows a high hindrance performance (i.e., IL≥6dB) when the trench depth is larger than 0.5λ_R while it is 0.6λ_R for the open trench.

In the industry of steelmaking, the process of galvanizing is a treatment which is applied to protect the steel from corrosion. The air knife effect (AKE) occurs when nozzles emit a steam of air on the surfaces of a steel strip to remove excess zinc from it. In our work we formalized the problem to control the AKE and we implemented, with the R&D dept.of MarcegagliaSPA, a DL model able to drive the AKE. We call it controller. It takes as input the tuple (pres and dist) to drive the mechanical nozzles towards the (c). According to the requirements we designed the structure of the network. We collected and explored the data set of the historical data of the smart factory. Finally, we designed the loss function as sum of three components: the minimization between the coating addressed by the network and the target value we want to reach; and two weighted minimization components for both pressure and distance. The purpose of this thesis work is the study and creation of a harness modelling system. The model needs to simulate faithfully the physical behaviour of the harness, without any instability or incorrect movements. Since there are various simulation engines that try to model wiring's systems, this thesis work focused on the creation and test of a 3D environment with wiring and other objects through the PyChrono Simulation Engine. Fine-tuning of the simulation parameters were done during the test to achieve the most stable and correct simulation possible, but tests showed the intrinsic limits of the Engine regarding the collisions' detection between the various part of the cables, while collisions between cables and other physical objects such as pavement, walls and others are well managed by the simulator. Finally, the main purpose of the model is to be used to train Artificial Intelligence through Reinforcement Learnings techniques, so we designed, using OpenAI Gym APIs, the general structure of the learning environment, defining its basic functions and an initial framework.

Characterized for the first time in erythrocytes, phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinases (PIP kinases) belong to a family of enzymes that generate various lipid messengers and participate in several cellular processes, including gene expression regulation. Recently, the PIPKIIα gene was found to be differentially expressed in reticulocytes from two siblings with hemoglobin H disease, suggesting a possible relationship between PIPKIIα and the production of globins. Here, we investigated PIPKIIα gene and protein expression and protein localization in hematopoietic-derived cells during their differentiation, and the effects of PIPKIIα silencing on K562 cells. PIPKIIα silencing resulted in an increase in α and γ globins and a decrease in the proliferation of K562 cells without affecting cell cycle progression and apoptosis. In conclusion, using a cell line model, we showed that PIPKIIα is widely expressed in hematopoietic-derived cells, is localized in their cytoplasm and nucleus, and is upregulated during erythroid differentiation. We also showed that PIPKIIα silencing can induce α and γ globin expression and decrease cell proliferation in K562 cells.
