Sloop Cyrus account for Charter to West Indies, 1793 July 27

One folded folio-sized leaf containing handwritten financial entries compiled by William Winthrop from February 1793 to July 1793. The entry notes that the sloop made a "voyage to the West Indies" between February and May 1793.

Motion for change of venue in the case of the Inhabitants of Massachusetts Bay Colony v. Charles Paxton, October 1761

A motion that the case not be tried in Suffolk County, on the grounds that the judges and jurors were residents of the colony. Pratt was attorney to Paxton, an attorney and commissioner of customs, who had incurred a debt to the Colony.

Letter of recommendation for Amos Main from Joseph Moodey to Nathan Prince, 1725 July 2

Handwritten letter sent by Joseph Moody, schoolmaster in York, to Harvard Tutor Nathan Prince recommending student Amos Main for acceptance to the College. In the letter, Moody requests Prince give Main an examination for admission, with the caveat that though Main has been studying Latin and Greek he has a difficult home life and is "somewhat Raw; yet I hope you'l wink at it." The letter, dated July 2, 1725, is written on a folded folio-sized leaf; there are handwritten notes about Massachusetts towns on the verso.

Letter from Fisher Ames to Deborah Ames Shuttleworth, 1805 August 27

One folded sheet containing a two-page letter from Fisher Ames in Dedham, Mass. to his sister "Debby" in Windsor, Vermont. Ames provides updates on the health of his children and individuals in the community, and discusses the summer heat, including mention of the likelihood of dysentery, and his attendance at "Mr. Montagu's Church," referring to the Dedham Episcopal Church presided over by Reverend William Montague.

This folded leaf contains a two-page handwritten poem written by a Harvard College sophomore on February 19, 1765, on the death of Harvard Professor Edward Wigglesworth. The poem begins, "Werefore this change? / Erst I was wont on this Day to frequent..."
