To the publishers of the Boston Evening post on the death of the Revd Dr. Wigg. written Tuesday Feb. 19, 1765: the day on which the doctor used to read his public lectures

This folded leaf contains a two-page handwritten poem written by a Harvard College sophomore on February 19, 1765, on the death of Harvard Professor Edward Wigglesworth. The poem begins, "Werefore this change? / Erst I was wont on this Day to frequent..."

by a student of the college in his second year there & the 16th of his age.

This item was received in 1936 as the gift of H. V. Bail.

Single leaf formed from several pieces of paper glued together and folded. Remnants of thread indicate leaf was previously bound.

Edward Wigglesworth (ca. 1693-1765; Harvard AB 1710) received Harvard's first endowed professorship when he became the Hollis Professor of Theology in 1722, and was made a Fellow of the Corporation in 1723. Wigglesworth died on January 16, 1765. His son Edward Wigglesworth (1731/2-1794) was the second Hollis Professor of Theology.
