Letter to Kean, member of the Continental Congress, regarding the filing of a bill. Rutledge was a member of the Continental Congress from South Carolina (1774-1776, 1782-1783), a judge on the South Carolina Court of Chancery (from 1784), a member of the state legislature (1784-1790) and was appointed chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1795).
