Fangtechnische Möglichkeiten zur Reduzierung des Beifangs von Meeresenten in der Dorschfischerei mit stationären Fanggeräten

The present contribution summarizes results of fishery investigations with gillnets and longlines in the winter cod fishery which had been carried out in the western Baltic region from 1996 to 1999 by the Bundesforschungsanstalt für Fischerei with financial aid of the country Schleswig-Holstein. The main goal of these investigations was to point out technological possibilities for a reduction of unwanted bycatches of sea ducks in gillnetting. As it is obviously impossible to reduce the local and temporal bycatch problem by means of different gillnet constructions or tactical measurements, only the temporary avoidance of fishing grounds with high abundance of ducks or the change to longlining as catch method with reduced duck bycatches may be an effective solution.

The alkaline comet assay is a method of detecting DNA strand breaks and alkali labile sites in individual cells. The method was used to detect DNA strand breaks in isolated blood cells (leukocytes) of carp (Cyprius carpio). DNA damage have been induced by exposure of the cells to sediment extract. Therefore comet assay can be applied as in vitro bioassay for investigations on toxicity of marine sediments.

Weitere Untersuchungen zur Selektion des Ostseedorsches mit neuartigen Steertkonstruktionen

Trotz der 1993 getroffenen Entscheidung der Internationalen Ostseefischereikommission, die Steertmaschenmindestöffnung von 105 auf 120 mm zu erhöhen, hat sich die allgemeine Situation der Dorschbestände in der zentralen Ostsee (Ernst 1998) bisher nicht verbessert. Man muß daher fragen, warum bisher keine wirksamen technischen Maßnahmen zum Schutz der Jungfische eingeführt und durchgesetzt worden sind. Die Entscheidung zur Einführung einer erhöhten Steertmaschenöffnung wurde 1993 bereits durch Einsprüche der Praxis relativiert. Es wurde von der Fischereipraxis verlangt, alternative Steertkonstruktionen zuzulassen, die es gestatten würden, die mit einem Steertwechsel verbundene Kosten zu minimieren. Dem war mit der Maßgabe zugestimmt worden, daß für solche alternativen Steerte der Nachweis geführt wird, daß mindestens 50 % der Dorsche von 38 cm Länge noch entkommen können. Zwei neuartige Steertformen, die sogenannte "schwedische" und die "dänische" (Dahm und Thiele 1996), wurden dann - allerdings ohne solchen gesicherten Nachweis - in das Regelwerk der Ostseefischereikommission aufgenommen und als zulässig erklärt.

Versuche mit einem modifizierten Rollengeschirr für Garnelenbaumkurren

With a traditional roller gear, only the rollers in the centre are working correctly. The rollers on both sides are more or less gliding on the sea bottom because their axis are not in a position perpendicular to the towing direction. Sediment is stirred up by these gliding rollers coupled with a negative bottom impact of this gear. With a modified roller gear for shrimp beam trawls the axis of all rollers are orientated 90° to the towing direction enabling all rollers to roll correctly on the sea bottom.

The investigations showed that the shelf life of traditional smoked and vacuum-packed gutted mackerels, mackerel and herring fillets is similar to the corresponding vacuum-packed products smoked with liquid smoke. The storage temperature was 5 ± 0,5 °C. Under experimental conditions the storage time was 26 days for smoked gutted mackerels and more than 30 days for smoked fillets. Storage times of 20 to 25 days for these products are recommended. The microbiological and chemical results showed no differences between both technologies.

Analyse des Fluchtverhaltens von Fischen auf Schiffsgeräusche mit hydroakustischen Methoden

Investigations on the avoidance reactions of pelagic schooling fish (herring and sprat) released by an approaching fishery vessel were carried out during the 378th cruise of FRC "Solea" from 25 September to 3 October 1995 in the Arkona Sea, southern Baltic. An echosounder system EK 500/BI500 with a 38 kHz transducer mounted on a towed body as weIl as a 120 kHz hull mounted transducer were used. Fish densities were measured synchronously as well as under the ship as at a laterally distances from the ship by the transducer of the towed body. By these means the variation of fish densities up to a certain distance from the ship is possible. The advantage of using an echo integrating system for these measurements is, that it works also for not schooling fish and under conditions where schooling fish disperse (e.g. at night).

Deutsche und internationale Bestandsuntersuchungen an Heringen mit hydroakustischen Methoden

The international hydroacoustic herring survey in the North Sea is carried out since the early eighties with Dutch, Scottish, Danish und Norwegian contribution. Since 1994 Germany also participates in this survey on a regular basis and has taken over a sector in the easter part between the Dogger Bank and the Danish coast. This area is known for the abundance of chiefly juvenile herring and sprat. During the 1995 cruise some 420000 t of herring were found here, most of them being juveniles of age group I. Analyses of plankton hauls showed that planktonic echos were not caused by juvenile herring, instead the echos were apparently produced by small pelagic gastropodes of the genus Spiratella.

Fangversuche mit Trenngittern im Steert pelagischer Schleppnetze

1993 wurden im Institut für Fangtechnik erstmals Versuche mit Trenngittern (sorting grids) durchgeführt. In Fortsetzung dieser Versuche waren auf 357. Reise der "Solea" im August 1994 weitere Untersuchungen mit modifizierten Gitterkonstruktionen vorgesehen.

Hydroakustische Bestandsuntersuchung in der Ostsee mit dem FFK "Solea"

Seit mehr als zehn Jahren finden in der Ostsee regelmäßig internationale hydroakustische Aufnahmen der pelagischen Fischbestände statt. Diese Aufnahmen werden durch eine Planungsgruppe des ICES koordiniert und gemeinsam ausgewertet. Die abgestimmten Ergebnisse dieser Untersuchungen bilden eine Grundlage für die Schätzung der zukünftigen Bestandsentwicklung und damit für die Empfehlungen für die maximalen Fangmengen. Der FFK "Solea" nimmt seit 1987 an diesen Untersuchungen teil. Das Arbeitsgebiet in der westlichen Ostsee umfaßt hauptsächlich die ICES Untergebiete 22 (Beltsee) und 24 (Arkonasee); zeitweise wurde auch im Sund und in der Bornholmsee operiert.

Der Beifang an kleinen Fischen beim Fang von Tiefseegarnelen (Pandalus borealis) ist sowohl aus Gründen des Bestandsschutzes als auch aus der Sicht des Fischers absolut unerwünscht. Diese Fische überleben zum größten Teil nicht die Fangprozedur, auch nicht, wenn sie unmittelbar nach dem Hol wieder über Bord gegeben werden. Sie sind damit für den Erhalt des betreffenden Bestandes verloren, kommerziell wertlos und verursachen in größeren Mengen einen erheblichen Sortieraufwand, der sich auf die finanzielle Bilanz einer Fangreise negativ auswirkt.
