Conventionally, document classification researches focus on improving the learning capabilities of classifiers. Nevertheless, according to our observation, the effectiveness of classification is limited by the suitability of document representation. Intuitively, the more features that are used in representation, the more comprehensive that documents are represented. However, if a representation contains too many irrelevant features, the classifier would suffer from not only the curse of high dimensionality, but also overfitting. To address this problem of suitableness of document representations, we present a classifier-independent approach to measure the effectiveness of document representations. Our approach utilises a labelled document corpus to estimate the distribution of documents in the feature space. By looking through documents in this way, we can clearly identify the contributions made by different features toward the document classification. Some experiments have been performed to show how the effectiveness is evaluated. Our approach can be used as a tool to assist feature selection, dimensionality reduction and document classification.

A pesquisa procura identificar como se dá a dinâmica relacional que deve existir entre o saber/fazer teológico e as demais formas de saberes na contemporaneidade, tendo como base o filósofo francês Edgar Morin em seu referencial teórico intitulado Pensamento Complexo . Nessa perspectiva, a pesquisa se delineará por uma hermenêutica complexa ou uma hermenêutica transdisciplinar. Este conceito (Hermenêutica-Transdisciplinar / Hermenêutica na Complexidade) não é um sistema dedutivo, e sim um sistema aberto, operacionalizado por uma razão aberta (racionalidade) que procura interpretar a realidade contemporânea observando a tradição. Também de forma criativa, interpreta a tradição como resposta emergente para a contemporaneidade em meio a uma realidade complexa. A partir desse conceito observam-se também as relações dinâmicas dos saberes deste mesmo tempo, e isso, não apenas observando pelas lentes da interdisciplinaridade, mas indo além, se tornando um saber transdisciplinar. A teologia cristã continua sendo amor à tradição-bíblica, sem jamais transformar-se num sistema completo e acabado do saber teológico. Passado e presente se completam e apenas lançam luz para o futuro. Para isso, na tradição teológica cristã, há na Bíblia fundamentos reflexivos e axiomas, a partir dos quais podemos refletir a respeito de todos os temas que os saberes vão impondo (complexidade na realidade) como tematização.

Objective: To determine the psychometric properties of two scales designed to examine attitudes regarding palliative care: Comfort Scale in Palliative Care (CSPC, Pereira et al.) and Tanatophobia Scale (TS, Merrill et al.)Method: Seventy-seven students who completed an online course on psychosocial aspects of palliative care offered by the Latin American Association of Palliative Care participated in the study. They also completed the scales before and after the course. Construct validity and reliability of the CSPC and the TS were assessed using a Principal Components Analysis, internal reliability coefficient and test-retest reliability. Further, comparative statistics between the pre-course and post-course results were obtained in order to determine changes in attitudes.Results: The Principal Components Analysis showed satisfactory fit to the data. 3 components were extracted: two for the CSPC and one for the TS, which explained 55.37% of the variance. Internal consistency coefficients were satisfactory in all cases and Cronbach´s Alphas were satisfactory for all the scales, particularly for the CSPC. Test-retest reliability in t1 and t2 was found to be non significant, indicating that measures were not related in time. Regarding pre-course/post-course comparisons, significant changes in comfort assisting patients (p = 0.004) and comfort assisting families (p = 0.001) following the course were identified, but changes in thanatophobia were non significant (p > 0.05).Conclusions: both scales are valid and reliable. Attitudes regarding the practice of palliative care and how they change, particularly regarding psychosocial issues, can be accurately measured using the examined scales.

This dissertation aims to look into the structure of the event Circuito Regional de Performance BodeArte1 to think how it collaborate with its proposal providing theoretical points to relevant questions to the comprehension of Brazilian performance art in contemporaneity, since its conceptual format until its occurrence and practical limitations. From this proposition the dissertation is organized into three chapters guided for the following aspects: the resumption of the events encompassed on the occurrence of Circuit BodeArte as well as a tabulation of the data reunited in its history, the presentation of its conceptual choices, and the metaphors conducted by the use of the term performance and how they can lead us to the idea of a performance-as-BodeArte. The methodological structures moved for this organization are qualitative, and have been formed from printed materials, texts, festival programs, blog, videos, photos, interviews, lectures and forums, plus our own memory as a producer and performer of the event, looking through these set points of the epistemological organization contained on the proposal of the Circuito, expanding and discussing them. This way this research moves between the propositions of this event in its three editions, promoting discussions that dialogue with concepts such as the emergence of Steve Johnson (2004), the metaphors of thought proposed by Christine Greiner (2005), the idea of performance hacker of Maria Beatriz de Medeiros (AQUINO, et al., 2012), as well as other propositions presented by Jan Swidzinski (2005) and Eleonora Fabião (2012)

Com vista a abandonar a ideia tradicional de que a observação é objetiva e que, decorrente da objetividade dos factos empíricos é possível estabelecer uma correspondência com a realidade e a verdade, procura-se, através de uma situação experimental problemática, inserida num contexto de História da Ciência, criar um contexto didático apropriado para a compreensão da relação da observação com a teoria que a interpreta. Os resultados obtidos no decurso do Projeto lbero-americano de Avaliação de Atitudes Relativas a Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade, através da aplicação do Cuestionario de Opiniones sobre Ciencia-Tecnologia-Sociedad mostraram que a conceção que os alunos têm sobre a Natureza da Ciência e Tecnologia e sobre a relação entre observação e teoria não é a mais adequada. A Sequência de Ensino-Aprendizagem proposta baseia-se na realização de uma atividade experimental problemática e na discussão dos resultados, relacionando-os com a análise e debate de dois textos sobre a Teoria do Flogisto e a Teoria do Oxigénio.

A importância da encenação de uma transição entre o mundo secular e a vida em clausura, no contexto da arquitectura cartusiana, é amplamente demonstrada através dos percursos de entrada dos conjuntos mais relevantes, bem como em muitos daqueles representados nas gravuras presentes no livro Maisons de l’Ordre des Chartreux – Vues et Notices, uma obra do início do século XX que inclui gravuras da quase totalidade dos 282 mosteiros cartusianos distribuídos por quase toda a Europa. Na maioria das cartuxas podem observarse transições indirectas e prolongadas, capazes de tardar o passo e dar significado à passagem para a clausura – características espaciais que São Bruno, fundador da casa cartusiana, considerava primordiais para a implantação do seu eremitério. A partir de uma cuidada análise dessa transição, nas cartuxas em geral, e da sua evolução morfológica, na cartuxa de Évora em particular – estimulada pela descoberta de dados aqui analisados e interpretados pela primeira vez – apresenta-se, em continuidade com a sua história e tendo como premissa a consolidação do processo de entrada, uma proposta de redefinição da estrutura monacal de Santa Maria Scala Coeli. Esta estrutura originária do século XVI encontra-se incompleta e degradada, em particular na ala sul onde se encontra o seu principal acesso, sendo fundamental o completamento desta área para o cabal reconhecimento da unidade do conjunto e da intenção na qual se traduz a sua génese. De resto, a estratégia de investigação e de projecto descrita nesta dissertação pode ser encarada como um processo plausível de ser utilizado no caso de futuras intervenções noutras estruturas cartusianas, contribuindo assim para a recuperação e preservação do conceito fundador da identidade da arquitectura cartusiana que, no decorrer da expansão da ordem, se foi perdendo; The Architecture of the Carthusian Monastery of Santa Maria Scala Coeli: About the process of entrance. ABSTRACT: The importance of staging a transition between the secular world and life cloistered in the context of Carthusian architecture is amply demonstrated through the input paths of the most important collections, as well as many of those represented in the pictures in the book Maisons de l’Ordre des Chartreux – Vues et Notices, one of the early twentieth century work that includes prints of almost all of the 282 Carthusians monasteries spread across almost all of Europe. In most of Carthusian the transitions that can be observed are indirect and long, able to delay the step and give meaning to the passage to the life cloistered - spatial characteristics that St. Bruno, founder of the Carthusian Order, considered essential for the implementation of his hermitage. From a careful analysis of this transition, looking through the Carthusian in general, and its morphological evolution, in the Charterhouse of Évora in particular, encouraged by the data discovery here analyzed and interpreted for the first time - it is presented in continuity with its history and having premised on the consolidation of the entry process, a proposal for a redefinition of the monastic structure of Santa Maria Scala Coeli. This original structure of the sixteenth century is incomplete and degraded, particularly in the south wing where it is the main access, and where is fundamental the completion of this area to the full recognition of the unity of the whole and to understand the intent in which translates its genesis. Moreover, the research strategy and project described in this paper can be seen as a plausible case to be used in case of future interventions in other cartusianas structures, thus contributing to the recovery and preservation of the founder of the identity concept of the Carthusian architecture that, during the expansion of the order, was missing.

We study evolution of gravitational perturbations of black strings. It is well known that for all wave numbers less than some threshold value, the black string is unstable against the scalar type of gravitational perturbations, which is named the Gregory-Laflamme instability. Using numerical methods, we find the quasinormal modes and time-domain profiles of the black string perturbations in the stable sector and also show the appearance of the Gregory-Laflamme instability in the time domain. The dependence of the black string quasinormal spectrum and late-time tails on such parameters as the wave vector and the number of extra dimensions is discussed. There is numerical evidence that at the threshold point of instability, the static solution of the wave equation is dominant. For wave numbers slightly larger than the threshold value, in the region of stability, we see tiny oscillations with very small damping rate. While, for wave numbers slightly smaller than the threshold value, in the region of the Gregory-Laflamme instability, we observe tiny oscillations with very small growth rate. We also find the level crossing of imaginary part of quasinormal modes between the fundamental mode and the first overtone mode, which accounts for the peculiar time domain profiles.

Se analiza la obra del autor inglés Lewis Carroll, en su obra titulada Alicia en el País de las Maravillas. Se considera que se trata no sólo de un maravilloso cuento para niños sino también de una obra maestra del lenguaje del absurdo. El libro describe las aventuras de una niña pequeña, Alicia. Para describir estas aventuras, Lewis Carroll usa un inglés sencillo, pero con un dominio tal de la lengua que no sólo consigue presentar situaciones absurdas, sino que logra no significar nada en absoluto. Se ponen como ejemplo varias situaciones y pasajes del libro. En definitiva el contenido es un puro absurdo, ya que en el poema las palabras, aunque estructuralmente en perfecto orden, son en gran parte creación suya, pero sin ningún significado. Aquí más que en ninguna otra ocasión, se revela la mente matemática del autor fuera de toda dimensión conocida. Una especie de lenguaje cifrado cuya clave sólo Carroll conocería. Lo esencial de este poema es esto precisamente: la invención de palabras que aunque no son propias del idioma inglés merecerían serlo. Finalmente, todo este lenguaje absurdo de la obra de Lewis Carroll es un perfecto ejemplo del sentimiento de fantasía que subyace en ambos cuentos. Leerlos no es solamente trasladarnos por unos momentos al mundo de lo maravilloso, sino también un ejercicio mental de primera categoría.
