Principal Topic: There is increasing recognition that the organizational configurations of corporate venture units should depend on the types of ventures the unit seeks to develop (Burgelman, 1984; Hill and Birkinshaw, 2008). Distinction have been made between internal and external as well as exploitative versus explorative ventures (Hill and Birkinshaw, 2008; Narayan et al., 2009; Schildt et al., 2005). Assuming that firms do not want to limit themselves to a single type of venture, but rather employ a portfolio of ventures, the logical consequence is that firms should employ multiple corporate venture units. Each venture unit tailor-made for the type of venture it seeks to develop. Surprisingly, there is limited attention in the literature for the challenges of managing multiple corporate venture units in a single firm. Maintaining multiple venture units within one firm provides easier access to funding for new ideas (Hamel, 1999). It allows for freedom and flexibility to tie the organizational systems (Rice et al., 2000), autonomy (Hill and Rothaermel, 2003), and involvement of management (Day, 1994; Wadwha and Kotha, 2006) to the requirements of the individual ventures. Yet, the strategic objectives of a venture may change when uncertainty around the venture is resolved (Burgelman, 1984). For example, firms may decide to spin-in external ventures (Chesbrough, 2002) or spun-out ventures that prove strategically unimportant (Burgelman, 1984). This suggests that ventures might need to be transferred between venture units, e.g. from a more internally-driven corporate venture division to a corporate venture capital unit. Several studies suggested that ventures require different managerial skills across their phase of development (Desouza et al., 2007; O'Connor and Ayers, 2005; Kazanjian and Drazin, 1990; Westerman et al., 2006). To facilitate effective transfer between venture units and manage the overall venturing process, it is important that firms set up and manage integrative linkages. Integrative linkages provide synergies and coordination between differentiated units (Lawrence and Lorsch, 1967). Prior findings pointed to the important role of senior management (Westerman et al., 2006; Gilbert, 2006) and a shared organizational vision (Burgers et al., 2009) to coordinate venture units with mainstream businesses. We will draw on these literatures to investigate the key question of how to integratively manage multiple venture units. ---------- Methodology/Key Propositions: In order to seek an answer to the research question, we employ a case study approach that provides unique insights into how firms can break up their venturing process. We selected three Fortune 500 companies that employ multiple venturing units, IBM, Royal Dutch/ Shell and Nokia, and investigated and compared their approaches. It was important that the case companies somewhat differed in the type of venture units they employed as well as the way they integrate and coordinate their venture units. The data are based on extensive interviews and a variety of internal and external company documents to triangulate our findings (Eisenhardt, 1989). The key proposition of the article is that firms can best manage their multiple venture units through an ambidextrous design of loosely coupled units. This provides venture units with sufficient flexibility to employ organizational configurations that best support the type of venture they seek to develop, as well as provides sufficient integration to facilitate smooth transfer of ventures between venture units. Based on the case findings, we develop a generic framework for a new way of managing the venturing process through multiple corporate venture units. ---------- Results and Implications: One of our main findings is that these firms tend to organize their venture units according to phases in the venture development process. That is, they tend to have venture units aimed at incubation of venture ideas as well as units aimed more at the commercialization of ventures into a new business unit for the firm or a start-up. The companies in our case studies tended to coordinate venture units through integrative management skills or a coordinative venture unit that spanned multiple phases. We believe this paper makes two significant contributions. First, we extend prior venturing literature by addressing how firms manage a portfolio of venture units, each achieving different strategic objectives. Second, our framework provides recommendations on how firms should manage such an approach towards venturing. This helps to increase the likelihood of success of their venturing programs.

Directors of nonprofits in most countries have legal responsibility for monitoring organisational performance (Brody 2010), although there is typically little guidance on how this should occur. The balanced scorecard (BSC) (Kaplan & Norton, 1996, 2001) potentially provides boards with a monitoring tool (Kaplan $ Norton, 2006; Lorsch, 2002). The BSC is intended to help integrate performance measurement, performance management and strategy implmentation (Kaplan 2009). The scorecards is balanced in that it should incorporate both financial and non-financial measures, external and internal perspectives, short and long-term objectives and both lagging and leading indicators. It is a relatively simple tool, but with potentially profound implications for directing board attention and sbusequent action (Ocasio, 1997; Salterio, 2012).

This thesis examines the ruins of the medieval Bridgettine (Birgittan) monastery of Naantali (Vallis Gratiae, f. 1443) in Finland and the transformation of the site into a national heritage and a memory landscape. It was archaeologically surveyed in the 19th century by Professor Sven Gabriel Elmgren (1817 1897). His work was followed by Dr. Reinhold Hausen (1850 1942), who excavated the site in the 1870s. During this time the memories of Saint Bridget (Birgitta) in Sweden were also invented as heritage. Hausen published his results in 1922 thus forming the connection with the next generation of actors involved with the Naantali site: the magnate Amos Anderson (1878 1961), the teacher Julius Finnberg (1877 1955) and the archaeologist Juhani Rinne (1872 1950). They erected commemorative monuments etc. on the Naantali site, thus creating a memory landscape there. For them, the site represented the good homeland in connection with a western-oriented view of the history of Finland. The network of actors was connected to the Swedish researchers and so-called Birgitta Friends, such as state antiquarian Sigurd Curman (1879 1966), but also to the members of the Societas Sanctae Birgittae and the Society for the Embellishment of Pirita, among others. Historical jubilees as manifestations of the use of history were also arranged in Naantali in 1943, 1993 and 2003. It seems as if Naantali is needed in Finnish history from time to time after a period of crisis, i.e. after the Crimean War in the 1850s, the civil war of 1918, during World War II and also after the economic crisis of the early 1990s. In 2003, there was a stronger focus on the international Saint Bridget Jubilee in Sweden and all over Europe. Methodologically, the thesis belongs to the history of ideas, but also to research on the use of history, invented traditions and lieux de mémoire. The material for the work consists of public articles and scholarly texts in books or newspapers and letters produced by the actors and kept in archives in Finland, Sweden and Estonia, in addition to pictures and erected commemorative monuments in situ in the Western Finnish region. Das Augustinerchorherrenstift Bernried ist eine Gründung des 12. Jahrhunderts und beheimatete bis zur Säkularisation 1803 einen Augustinerchorherrenkonvent. Die Stiftung des Grafenpaares Otto und Adelheid von Valley gehörte zu den neuen geistlichen Niederlassungen, die im Zuge der Reformbewegung der Regularkanoniker fundiert wurden. Für die Region um Bernried am Starnberger See wirkte das Stift als gestalterische Kraft über sechs Jahrhunderte hinweg. Großen Aufschwung nahm das Stift erneut im 18. Jahrhundert, als herausragende Pröpste gerade die musikalische Entwicklung des Konventes förderten: einige Pröpste wirkten als Komponisten; von den Musikalien haben sich zahlreiche Handschriften und Instrumente erhalten. Nach dem bewährten Schema der Germania Sacra skizziert die Autorin Walburga Scherbaum kenntnisreich die Geschichte, die Verfassung, das geistige und religiöse Leben, die Besitzgeschichte und vor allem das Personal des Stiftes von seiner Gründung bis zur Aufhebung. Mit diesem Werk werden die Bemühungen der Germania Sacra um die geistlichen Institutionen im Alten Reich um eine weitere geistliche Niederlassung im bayerischen Raum neben Raitenhaslach (Germania Sacra N. F. 11), Dietramszell (Germania Sacra N. F. 24), Benediktbeuern (Germania Sacra N. F. 28) und Wessobrunn (Germania Sacra N. F. 39) bereichert.

Im sechsten Band der Germania Sacra zum Bistum Konstanz behandelt Wilfried Schöntag das 1171 gegründete Prämonstratenserstift Obermarchtal bis zu seiner Aufhebung 1803 und bietet zugleich einen ersten Einstieg in die Geschichte der Schwäbischen Zirkarie. Während das Stift im 13. und in der ersten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts mit politischen und wirtschaftlichen Schwierigkeiten zu kämpfen hatte, konnten die Prämonstratenser später eine geschlossene Niedergerichtsherrschaft aufbauen, die Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts Grundlage für die Reichsunmittelbarkeit wurde. Die nach 1570 von Prémontré aus betriebene Reform zeitigte nach 30 Jahren auch in Marchtal große Erfolge und führte zu einer neuen Spiritualität und zu einer Konsolidierung der Wirtschaft. Das 17. Jahrhundert ist als das große Jahrhundert der Marchtaler Äbte und Konventualen anzusehen. In der Zirkarie und im Schwäbischen Reichsprälatenkollegium dominierte Abt Nikolaus Wirieth (1661–1691). Er begann 1668 mit dem Bau der neuen barocken Stiftskirche. Neben der Besitz- und Verwaltungsgeschichte stellen die Viten der Pröpste, Äbte und Konventualen, die Bildungsgeschichte sowie die Bau- und Kunstgeschichte Schwerpunkte der Arbeit dar. Da die liturgischen und spirituellen Fragen auf den Sitzungen der Zirkarie festgelegt worden sind, sind diese Passagen auch für die anderen Stifte der Zirkarie von Bedeutung.

Este texto es una aproximación teórica, crítica e interdisciplinar a la realidad empresarial y es producto de la investigación "enfo­ques, métodos y fuentes de información de la realidad empresarial en Colombia", constituyéndose así, en un insumo reflexivo para la Línea de Investigación Realidad empresarial de la Facultad de Administración de la Universidad del Rosario, en cuyo interior se ha iniciado un proceso de reflexión y re conceptualización que posibilite nuevas opciones en materia de construcción de cono­cimiento pertinente. No se puede desconocer que la comprensión de la realidad em­presarial exige claridades conceptuales y metodológicas en materia filosófica, económica, política, psicológica, administrativa y cultural, pues sólo así, será posible identificar enfoques inter y transdisciplinarias que aporten mayores elementos para el diseño de intervenciones relevantes.
