The southwestern part of the subpolar North Atlantic east of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and Flemish Cap is a crucial area for the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. Here the exchange between subpolar and subtropical gyre takes place, southward flowing cold and fresh water is replaced by northward flowing warm and salty water within the North Atlantic Current (NAC). As part of a long-term experiment, the circulation east of Flemish Cap has been studied by seven repeat hydrographic sections along inline image (2003-2011), a 2 year time series of current velocities at the continental slope (2009-2011), 19 years of sea surface height, and 47 years of output from an eddy resolving ocean circulation model. The structure of the flow field in the measurements and the model shows a deep reaching NAC with adjacent recirculation and two distinct cores of southward flow in the Deep Western Boundary Current (DWBC): one core above the continental slope with maximum velocities at mid-depth and the second farther east with bottom-intensified velocities. The western core of the DWBC is rather stable, while the offshore core shows high temporal variability that in the model is correlated with the NAC strength. About 30 Sv of deep water flow southward below a density of sigma-theta = 27.68 kg/m**3 in the DWBC. The NAC transports about 110 Sv northward, approximately 15 Sv originating from the DWBC, and 75 Sv recirculating locally east of the NAC, leaving 20 Sv to be supplied by the NAC from the south.

This thesis presents a research that links cultural history and visual culture in a sociobiographical approach. It gives a “political treatment” to the educational experience in the transition of art teaching from the modern to the postmodern. By taking into account my experiences as an educator and the poetic practice in Daniel Francisco de Souza’s visual art, I propose a dialogue with his art and a series of visual narratives this artist/student produced at the time of his education and recently. Such visual narratives were taken as research source and research subject. They were created in a rural setting in dialogue with formal art teaching in two phases: 1992–6, when Daniel Fran cisco attended elementary school in the rural area of Uberlândia, MG; and 2008–10, when he attended Visual Arts graduation at Federal University of Uberlândia city. I analyze historical processes related to art and teaching, from the early sixteenth century to the present times, to realize residues in students’ poetic experiences. I relate Brazilian educational public policies with experi- ences in that rural school. I try to show the extent to which our educational practices triggered experiences — from ones common to intense ones — and promoted forms of “emancipation-knowledge” or “regulation-knowledge” and how the “selective tradition” was and how art predetermined history images gave way to everyday visual references, pointing to the “broad field” of visual culture. I make an effort to show Daniel Francisco’s work as an adult by tak- ing it according to different approaches. In a poetic reading, first, I emphasixe the material and the symbolic in his art. In a second look, I approach his work through the intertwining experiences of three characters from different times and places that participated in the making of his art: the artist farmer, the artist teacher and the teacher researcher. I assume the existence of a mutual cultural incompleteness in these three characters; which means that parts of their “structures of feeling” built on the interrelationship among them are part of the artist’ work as a historical content decanted. Thirdly, I demonstrate how the artist sees his place as a key re ference to his poetic creation. His work does not reflect the rural bucolic as something untouched. In showing the difficulty in distinguishing the archaic residual, I identify emerging issues in his work. I conclude that the artist — Daniel Francisco — and the researcher — myself — present maverick features: both are scavengers; their productions approach the working with scraps in art and in the academy; even momentarily, they live in exile in the warmth of the borders or the edges, from where one sees the center clearly. In these spaces, when certain structures and normative codes enter into coalition, they fragment pre-established strategies and stimulate the creation of survival tactics.

Essa dissertação resulta de um processo de reflexão autobiográfica, com base no resgate de memórias e vivências do percurso de vida-trabalho da pesquisadora, a partir da experiência na gestão do Núcleo de Arte e Cultura (NAC) da Universidade Metodista de São Paulo (UMESP), desde a sua criação, em 2005. Compreender o processo de criação, constituição e inserção do NAC na UMESP, como também o exercício da gestão cultural nesse espaço universitário, foram objetivos dessa pesquisa, que destaca o diálogo entre Educação e Cultura, mediado pela Arte, a partir da inserção de ações artístico-culturais focadas no respeito às diferenças e na valorização da diversidade humana e cultural. Qual o papel da ação cultural dentro de uma universidade? Como essas ações podem somar com o processo de formação educacional? Que desafios envolveram a construção e constituição do Núcleo de Arte e Cultura da UMESP? Essas são questões geradoras do desenvolvimento desse trabalho, no qual é utilizada a abordagem (auto)biográfica como metodologia de pesquisa. Na narrativa propiciada por essa abordagem, a pesquisadora procurou revisitar e ressignificar, numa perspectiva de produção de conhecimento, memórias e histórias que contribuíram para a construção da sua própria identidade e que alavancaram sua inserção na gestão da Cultura na UMESP, legitimando e firmando a atuação do Núcleo de Arte e Cultura, ao longo dos seus 10 anos de existência. Ao refletir sobre essa práxis, evidenciou-se que trabalhar com as subjetividades é o grande desafio da gestão da Cultura, como também a construção de processos colaborativos, na perspectiva do “fazer com” e não do “fazer para” é o caminho para o fortalecimento e enraizamento das ações.

The position of the North Atlantic Current (NAC) during the intensification of Northern Hemisphere glaciation (iNHG) has been evaluated using dinoflagellate cyst assemblages and foraminiferal geochemistry from a ~260 kyr interval straddling the base of the Quaternary System from two sites: eastern North Atlantic Deep Sea Drilling Project Site 610 in the path of the present NAC and central North Atlantic Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Site U1313 in the subtropical gyre. Stable isotope and foraminiferal Mg/Ca analyses confirm cooling near the marine isotope stage (MIS) G7-G6 transition (2.74 Ma). However, a continued dominance of the dinoflagellate cyst Operculodinium centrocarpum sensu Wall and Dale (1966) indicates an active NAC in the eastern North Atlantic for a further 140 kyr. At MIS 104 (~2.60 Ma), a profound dinoflagellate cyst assemblage turnover indicates NAC shutdown in the eastern North Atlantic, implying elevated atmospheric pressure over the Arctic and a resulting shift in the westerlies that would have driven the NAC. These findings challenge recent suggestions that there was no significant southward shift of the NAC or the Arctic Front during iNHG, and reveal a fundamental climatic reorganization near the base of the Quaternary.

Gracias al crecimiento, expansión y popularización de la World Wide Web, su desarrollo tecnológico tiene una creciente importancia en la sociedad. La simbiosis que protagonizan estos dos entornos ha propiciado una mayor influencia social en las innovaciones de la plataforma y un enfoque mucho más práctico. Nuestro objetivo en este artículo es describir, caracterizar y analizar el surgimiento y difusión del nuevo estándar de hipertexto que rige la Web; HTML5. Al mismo tiempo exploramos este proceso a la luz de varias teorías que aúnan tecnología y sociedad. Dedicamos especial atención a los usuarios de la World Wide Web y al uso genérico que realizan de los Medios Sociales o "Social Media". Sugerimos que el desarrollo de los estándares web está influenciado por el uso cotidiano de este nuevo tipo de tecnologías y aplicaciones.

O stress é não apenas inerente para o ser humano, como indispensável para a sua sobrevivência. À medida que as sociedades humanas evoluíram, assim também se alteraram as principais fontes de stress. Actualmente o stress organizacional é uma das principais áreas de investigação, bem como as suas relações com a família e a vida pessoal. Em foco estão ainda as variáveis individuais que servem como moderadoras da experiência de stress, como o coping e o suporte social. Neste trabalho procurou-se conhecer os níveis de stress experienciados pelos colaboradores da Cisco Systems Lda, identificando diferenças de género e entre os tipos de trabalho. Pretendeu-se ainda relacionar o stress no trabalho com o equilíbrio trabalho/família, equlíbrio vida pessoal/trabalho, suporte social e coping. Através de um estudo não experimental transversal, descritivo/descritivo correlacional, com 42 sujeitos, utilizando o PMI – Pressure Management Indicator, foi possível identificar quatro factores, com α a partir de 0,531 para as variáveis moderadoras ate 0,904 para as variáveis stressoras. Os trabalhadores da amostra trabalham em média 49,7 horas por semana, apontando como principal razão “para que o trabalho seja feito”; 31,7% consideram estar a sofrer de pressão negativa iniciada há mais de 3 meses. Estão muito satisfeitos com a organização, mas sentem pressão devido ao volume de trabalho, ao relacionamento interpessoal e às dificuldades em desligar do trabalho quando em casa, fazendo uso de estratégias focadas no problema e de suporte social. Existem diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre homens e mulheres nas subescalas “Estado de espírito” e “Nível de confiança”, indicando níveis mais altos de segurança e satisfação com o seu estado mental para o grupo dos homens. No que respeita aos tipos de trabalho, foi possível identificar diferenças entre as categorias Sénior gerência/profissional e Manual/hábil nas subescalas “Nível de energia”, “Volume de trabalho” e “Equilíbrio vida/trabalho”. Existe correlação positiva entre as variáveis stressoras e a subescala “Equilíbrio trabalho/família” (r=0,890; p<0,000) e entre as variáveis stressoras e a escala de Coping (r=0,748; p<0,000), sugerindo que níveis de stress elevados interferem com a vida familiar e conduzem a maior utilização das estratégias de coping. Apesar das políticas de recursos humanos da empresa no sentido de promover a conciliação entre trabalho e vida pessoal e familiar, há ainda margem para intervir e melhorar. / Stress is not only inherent to the human being, it’s essential to survival. As the humans societies evolved, so did the major sources of stress. These days, organizational stress is one of the main areas of research, as it is it’s relation with family and personal life. Under the spotlight are also individual variables that moderate the stress experience, such as coping and social support. With this paper, we intended to know the levels of stress experienced by the workers of Cisco Systems Lda, identifying gender and work type differences. We were also intending to relate work stress with home/work balance, life/work balance, social support and coping. Using a cross sectional correlational study, with n=42, using the PMI, we were able to identify four factors, with α starting on 0,531 for moderator variables to 0,904 for stressor variables. The workers on this sample work an average of 49,7 hours per week, naming “to get the job done” as the main reason for it. 31,7% consider to be suffering from negative pressure that started more than 3 months ago. They are very satisfied with the organization, but feel pressure due to workload, interpersonal relationship and the difficulties in switching off from work when at home. They use mostly Problem focus strategies and social support.There are statically significative differences between men and women in the subscales “State of mind” and “Confidence level”, which indicate higher levels of security and satisfaction with their state of mind for men. Regarding work types, we were able to identify differences between senior Management and Manual categories on subscales “Energy level”, “Workload” and “Life/work balance”. There is a positive correlation between stressor variables and the subscales “Home/work balance” (r=0,890; p<0,000) and between stressor variables and Coping scale (r=0,748; p<0,000), suggesting that high levels of stress interfere with family life and lead to higher use of coping mechanisms. Despite the company’s human resources policies to promote the balance between work and personal and family life, there is still place to intervene and improve.

El departamento de meteorología del Instituto Tropical de Investigaciones Científicas elabora semanalmente informes meteorológicos que comprenden las alturas de lluvias y las temperaturas extremas diarias tomando como base las respectivas observaciones del observatorio nacional (OBS NAC)y del Instituto Tropical (ITIC). El observatorio nacional esta situado en la ciudad, calle Arce No 142B, mientras que el Instituto Tropical esta ubicado fuera del limite urbano al noroeste y a 2,5 km de distancia del observatorio Nacional. El Instituto Tropical también publica en su "boletín Meteorológico de San Salvador. El boletín contiene ademas gráficas acerca de la presión atmosférica, de la oscilación diaria de la temperatura, dirección y fuerza del viento y temperatura del suelo.

Chez l’humain, les lymphocytes B mémoires IgG+ et IgA+ sont des cellules clés de l’immunité humorale. Ces cellules mémoires sont maintenues à long-terme dans notre organisme. Elles représentent une défense rapide et efficace contre toutes les infections que nous avons déjà vaincues pendant notre vie. Ces cellules mémoires qui rencontrent à nouveau leur antigène se différencient rapidement en plasmocytes à courte vie, et permettent la sécrétion massive d’immunoglobuline (Ig). La contrepartie mémoire de ces cellules sont les plasmocytes à longue vie qui sont présents dans les niches de la moelle osseuse et y sécrètent en permanence des anticorps protecteurs qui circulent dans le sang. Ces cellules sécrétrices peuvent avoir une durée de vie allant de dizaines d’années à la vie entière de l’individu. Les patients qui reçoivent des traitements de chimiothérapie ou de radiothérapie sont privés de ces cellules mémoires détruites par ces traitements au même titre que les cellules cancéreuses. Ces patients deviennent vulnérables aux infections et leur survie dépend de la régénération rapide de leur système hématopoïétique. Notre équipe a déjà mis au point une méthode pour préparer de grandes quantités des cellules mémoires capables de sécréter des IgG et des IgA. Les présents travaux visent à générer des plasmocytes fonctionnels et capables de survivre à long terme in vitro. La stratégie expérimentale visait à établir des conditions permettant de se rapprocher de l’environnement de la moelle osseuse. Dans un premier temps, nous avons étudié les paramètres permettant la différenciation des lymphocytes B mémoires en plasmocytes. Étant donné l’importance du potentiel redox dans l’environnement de la moelle osseuse, nous avons d’abord tenté d’en contrôler l’impact avec un antioxydant, le N-acétyle cystéine (NAC). Nos résultats ont démontré que le NAC avait un effet significatif et diminuait la phosphorylation de la protéine STAT3 en raison d’une inhibition des kinases JAK2 et JAK3. Étonnamment, cet antioxydant retardait la différenciation de nos lymphocytes B qui étaient stimulés avec une forte interaction CD40-CD154. Par la suite, la comparaison des interactions CD40-CD154 et CD27-CD70 a permis de conclure qu’il était essentiel de réduire à son minimum l’interaction CD40-CD154 et qu’il fallait ajouter les cytokines IL-6 et IL-10. Les cellules CD31+CD38+CD138+ générées présentaient un phénotype similaire à celui des plasmocytes de la moelle osseuse. Malheureusement la fréquence de ces cellules était faible et leur viabilité insuffisante. Afin d’augmenter la survie de ces cellules le dernier volet de nos travaux visait à se rapprocher des niches de la moelle osseuse. Notre but a été atteint en ajoutant des cellules mésenchymateuses issues de la moelle osseuse en présence de 8% de dioxygène (O2). Les cellules CD31+CD38+CD138+ générées ont une excellente viabilité et représentent plus de 50% des cellules totales en culture. De plus, le modèle de culture est maintenant établi dans un milieu exempt de sérum et de protéines animales. Dans l’ensemble, nos résultats permettent de proposer la production ex vivo de plasmocytes autologues avec une perspective thérapeutique pour réduire les risques d’infections des patients devenues immunodéficients, suite à un traitement de radiothérapie ou de chimiothérapie.

Con gran satisfacción me permito presentar nuestra memoria de labores correspondiente al año 2015, un año que se caracterizó por haber recibido la Reacreditación de la CdA para un nuevo período de cinco años. Además, realizamos grandes proyectos que posicionaron a ITCA a nivel nacional e internacional como el haber organizado junto a USAID el “Primer Encuentro de Negocios del Sector Metal Mecánico”, graduamos la primera promoción de técnicos de la carrera “Gestión Tecnológica del Patrimonio Cultural” en Santa Ana, elaboramos para la Escuela Nacional de Agronomía (ENA) un Invernadero con moderno sistema de riego, siendo éste un proyecto posteriormente galardonado por el MINED, nos hicimos acreedores del reconocimiento “Academy Curriculum Excellence” de Cisco, ganamos el 1er. lugar en el 4º. Congreso de Buenas Prácticas de la Dirección Estratégica de la Red Telescopi, recibimos el premio ES Calidad, distinción por la Mejor Práctica “Sistema Dual en Educación Formal” y nos visitó Heather Higginbottom, Subsecretaria de Estado para Asuntos Administrativos y Recursos del Gobierno de Estados Unidos. A través de nuestros 5 campus estratégicamente ubicados a nivel nacional, ofrecimos 22 carreras técnicas y 3 ingenierías, con una curricula de estudios actualizada, impartidas con métodos modernos, en talleres y laboratorios con avanzada tecnología. La matrícula de estudiantes de antiguo y nuevo ingreso fue de 5,609 en carreras técnicas, el promedio de notas a nivel institucional fue de 7.9, se graduaron 1,970 nuevos técnicos y 43 ingenieros, siendo un total de 2013 profesionales incorporados a la vida laboral del país y colocando en puestos de trabajo al 73.28% de la población graduada. Además, se otorgaron 2,480 becas de estudio, 209 gracias al fondo de becas del Banco Central de Reserva, fondo administrado por FEPADE y 778 brindadas por empresas y personas altruistas, también a través del MINED se otorgaron 1,493 becas a jóvenes bajo el modelo MEGATEC. Se impartieron 5,427 cursos cortos, con un total de 65,135 participaciones durante el año. En el marco internacional, logramos importantes relaciones con otras instituciones de educación superior, intercambios de alumnos y docentes, entre otros. La empresa privada, se mantuvo presente, ayudando a la formación de nuestros estudiantes con los programas de becas, prácticas profesionales y comités asesores. Mucha fue la gran labor educativa de la Escuela Especializada en Ingeniería ITCA-FEPADE en el 2015, le invito a conocer en detalle lo ejecutado a lo largo de este informe.

La neumonía adquirida en la Comunidad (NAC) tiene una influencia de 7 a 15 casos por 1000 personas y por año, de los cuales el 36 a 57se acompaña de Derrame Pleural Paraneumónico (DPPN). En el Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso (HVCM) en el período 1999-2000, la NAC representó el 17de todos los egresos del Departamento de Clínica, correspondiendo un 6.5a DPPN, diagnosticados. Este estudio desciptivo prospectivo realizado en el Departamento de Clínica del HVCM desde septiembre de 2002 a agosto de 2003 muestra que de 1393 pacientes, 127 correspondieron a NAC, y de éstos el 28.3(36 pacientes) fueron diagnosticados de DPPN, las edades estuvieron entre los 20 y 93 años (media 55.4 años), siendo más frecuente en varones. De acuerdo a la clasificación propuesta por Light, los derrames de Clase 1 estuvieron presentes en mayor porcentaje (50.0) y los de clase 7 los menos frecuentes (2.8). El tipo de DPPN determina la conducta terapeútica a seguir es así que el conocimiento de la frecuencia real en el HVCM y su clasificación deberá permitir tomar medidas adecuadas con el fin de mejorar el pronóstico de los pacientes con NAC

Energy efficient policies are being applied to network protocols, devices and classical network management systems. Researchers have already studied in depth each of those fields, including for instance a long monitoring processes of various number of individual ICT equipment from where power models are constructed. With the development of smart meters and emerging protocols such as SNMP and NETCONF, currently there is an open field to couple the power models, translated to the expected behavior, with the realtime energy measurements. The goal is to derive a comparison on the power data between both of the processes in the direction of detection for possible deviations on the expected results. The logical assumption is that a fault in the usage of a particular device will not only increase its own energy usage, but also may cause additional consumption on the other devices part of the network. A platform is developed to monitor and analyze the retrieved power data of a simulated enterprise ICT infrastructure. Moreover, smart algorithms are developed which are aware of the different states that are occurring on each device during their typical use phase, as well as to detect and isolate possible anomalies. The produced results are obtained and validated with the use of Cisco switches and routers, Dell Precision stations and Raritan PDU as part of the monitored infrastructure.
