El discurso sobre el actual proceso de paz en la revista Semana (2012-2014)

Este artículo presenta un análisis sobre el discurso del actual proceso de paz en la revista Semana entre los años 2012 a 2014, dada la relevancia de la participación de los medios de comunicación en un proceso trascendental para el futuro del país y la reconciliación de la sociedad. El objetivo es describir qué estrategias argumentativas usa la revista a partir de las noticias sobre el proceso de paz durante este periodo. La metodología utilizada se basó en los esquemas argumentativos (topoi), los cuales se identificaron de acuerdo con la estrategia argumentativa que propone Ruth Wodak. Partiendo del análisis de los topoi se encontró que de manera general el discurso de la revista frente a los diálogos de paz maneja un tono positivo y a favor del proceso, incluso antes de que se hiciera el anuncio formal de las negociaciones, además se evidenció que frecuentemente se trata de resaltar y visualizar la labor del gobierno del presidente Juan Manuel Santos.

Analysis of the Fugl-Meyer outcome measures assessing the effectiveness of robot-mediated stroke therapy

Robot-mediated therapies offer a new approach to neurorehabilitation. This paper analyses the Fugl-Meyer data from the Gentle/S project and finds that the two intervention phases (sling suspension and robot mediated therapy) have approximately equal value to the further recovery of chronic stroke subjects (on average 27 months post stroke). Both sling suspension and robot mediated interventions show a recovery over baseline and further work is needed to establish the common factors in treatment, and to establish intervention protocols for each that will give individual subjects a maximum level of recovery.

Multivariate analysis of the Fugl-Meyer outcome measures assessing the effectiveness of GENTLE/S robot-mediated stroke therapy

Background: Robot-mediated therapies offer entirely new approaches to neurorehabilitation. In this paper we present the results obtained from trialling the GENTLE/S neurorehabilitation system assessed using the upper limb section of the Fugl-Meyer ( FM) outcome measure. Methods: We demonstrate the design of our clinical trial and its results analysed using a novel statistical approach based on a multivariate analytical model. This paper provides the rational for using multivariate models in robot-mediated clinical trials and draws conclusions from the clinical data gathered during the GENTLE/S study. Results: The FM outcome measures recorded during the baseline ( 8 sessions), robot-mediated therapy ( 9 sessions) and sling-suspension ( 9 sessions) was analysed using a multiple regression model. The results indicate positive but modest recovery trends favouring both interventions used in GENTLE/S clinical trial. The modest recovery shown occurred at a time late after stroke when changes are not clinically anticipated. Conclusion: This study has applied a new method for analysing clinical data obtained from rehabilitation robotics studies. While the data obtained during the clinical trial is of multivariate nature, having multipoint and progressive nature, the multiple regression model used showed great potential for drawing conclusions from this study. An important conclusion to draw from this paper is that this study has shown that the intervention and control phase both caused changes over a period of 9 sessions in comparison to the baseline. This might indicate that use of new challenging and motivational therapies can influence the outcome of therapies at a point when clinical changes are not expected. Further work is required to investigate the effects arising from early intervention, longer exposure and intensity of the therapies. Finally, more function-oriented robot-mediated therapies or sling-suspension therapies are needed to clarify the effects resulting from each intervention for stroke recovery.

The Rilke of Ruth Speirs: new poems, Duino Elegies, Sonnets to Orpheus & others

Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) is universally recognized as among the most important twentieth-century German-language poets. Here, for the first time, are all the surviving translations of his poetry made by Ruth Speirs (1916-2000), a Latvian exile who joined the British literary community in Cairo during World War Two, becoming a close friend of Lawrence Durrell and Bernard Spencer. Though described as ‘excellent’ and ‘the best’ by J. M. Cohen on the basis of magazine and anthology appearances, copyright restrictions meant that during her lifetime, with the exception of a Cairo-published Selected Poems (1942), Speirs was never to see her work gathered between covers and in print. This volume, edited by John Pilling and Peter Robinson, brings Speirs’ translations the belated recognition they deserve. Her much-revised and considered versions are a key document in the history of Rilke’s Anglophone dissemination. Rhythmically alive and carefully faithful, they give a uniquely mid-century English accent to the poet’s extraordinary German, and continue to bear comparison with current efforts to render his tenderly taxing voice.

On a Gromoll-Meyer type theorem in globally hyperbolic stationary spacetimes

Following the lines of the celebrated Riemannian result of Gromoll and Meyer, we use infinite dimensional equivariant Morse theory to establish the existence of infinitely many geometrically distinct closed geodesics in a class of globally hyperbolic stationary Lorentzian manifolds.

Patrimônio em prosa e verso: a correspondência de Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade para Augusto Meyer

A presente dissertação se propõe a resgatar a participação de Augusto Meyer nas primeiras iniciativas de proteção ao patrimônio cultural do Rio Grande do Sul, entre os anos de 1937 e 1938, por meio da análise da correspondência a ele enviada pelo então diretor do Serviço do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional - SPHAN, Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade. A referida correspondência integra o arquivo privado pessoal de Augusto Meyer que se encontra sob a guarda do Arquivo-Museu de Literatura Brasileira - AMLB, da Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa-FCRB. O trabalho em questão parte do pressuposto de que os arquivos privados pessoais se constituem em importante fonte documental para a pesquisa histórica. Como produto final apresentamos a edição anotada das cartas e telegramas dirigidas a Meyer, acompanhados de um índice geral.
