This report was prepared as a directive to Aging and Disability Resource Centers and The Mental Health and Disability Commission to jointly develop a plan for a home modification assistance program to provide grants and individual income tax credits to assist with expenses related to the making or permanent home modifications that permit individual with a disability to remain in the homes.

Liiketoiminnan organisoiminen projekteiksi on erittäin yleistä nykyisin. Suuri osa projekteista erityisesti IT-alalla epäonnistuu kuitenkin saavuttamaan tavoitteensa. Projektin menestys on tyypillisesti mitattu budjetin, aikataulun, laadun ja sidosryhmien tyytyväisyyden perusteella. Tämän Pro Gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena on etsiä tyypillisimpiä syitä projektien epäonnistumiseen ja löytää projektien seurannan ja mittaamisen avulla keinoja näiden epäonnistumisten ehkäisemiseen. Tutkimusmenetelmänä on laadullinen tapaustutkimus. Empiirinen aineisto on kerätty haastattelujen, eri materiaalien analysoinnin ja havainnoinnin avulla. Teoriaosuus tarjoaa kattavan yhteenvedon projektiliiketoiminnan ja yksittäisten projektien johtamiseen sekä projektien seurantaan ja mittaamiseen aikaisemman kirjallisuuden perusteella. Empiirisessä osiossa suoritetaan analyysi Case -yrityksen projektien seurantaan ja valittuihin projekteihin. Analyysien, haastattelujen ja havainnoinnin pohjalta tehdään johtopäätökset tyypillisimmistä, ongelmia projekteissa aiheuttavista tekijöistä sekä näiden esiintymisestä projektin elinkaaren eri vaiheissa. Mahdolliset ongelmia ehkäisevät keinot esitetään myös. Ehdotuksia kehityskohteiksi esitetään lopuksi teorian ja empirian pohjalta.

This project is a quasi-experimental study involving eight classrooms in two senior elementary schools in St. Catharines, Ontario which received a Project Business Program and were pre- and post-tested to determine the growth of knowledge acquisition in the area of business concepts. Four classrooms received a Project Business treatment while four classrooms acted as a control. The Project Business Program is sponsored by Junior Achievement of Canada; it occurred during a twelveweek period, February to May 1981, and is run by business consultants who, through Action, Dialogue and Career Exploration, teach children about economics and business related topics. The consultants were matched with teacher co-ordinators in whose classrooms they taught and with whom they discussed field trips, students, lesson planning, etc. The statistical analysis of pre- and post-test means revealed a significant statistical growth in the area of knowledge acquisition on the part of those students who received the Project Business Program. This confirms that Project Business makes a difference. A search of the literature appears to advocate economic programs like Project Business, whfch are broadly based, relevant and processoriented. This program recommends itself as a model for other areas of co-operative curricular interactions and as a bridge to future trends and as a result several fruitful areas of research are suggested.

within the Business Division of Niagara College of Arts and Technology, 245 students were utilised for a convenience stratified sample of First, Second, and Third Year ,students. The students answered 33 items regarding their Quality of Program and 40 concerning their Quality of Life, along with demographic and motivational questions and open comments. The responses were classified using an SPSS/PC statistical package and frequency statistics extracted. The data were examined for the entire sample and also for each year within the Business Division. There were high positive responses to both QOP andQOL items. However, there was greater satisfaction for students in First Year Accelerated, Second Year and Third Year than First Year. All students noted high satisfaction for the overall assessment of the program. There were lower positive responses for Professor Items where students were unsure if teachers helped them to do their best or took a personal interest in helping students do their best. This may highlight problems which need attention in the Freshman year. The area where all students were most neutral was regarding how others view them which raises questions of the self-esteem of students at Niagara College. The implications from this study seem to suggest that well-motivated, small, closely identified groups with interactive teaching methods lead to positive QOL and QOP.

Norah and Fred Fisher welcomed John Fisher into the world on November 29, 1912, not knowing what an influential role he would play in shaping Canada's history. John Fisher grew up as the middle child of five brothers and sisters in Frosty Hollow, New Brunswick, close to today’s town of Sackville. Sackville’s main industry was the Enterprise Foundry which the Fisher family owned and operated; however, Fisher had no plans of going into the family business. He was more inspired by his maternal grandfather, Dr. Cecil Wiggins, who lived with the family after retiring from the Anglican ministry. Wiggins encouraged all his grandchildren to be well read and to take part in discussions on current events. There were often visitors in the Fisher household taking part in discussions about politics, religion, and daily life. Fisher forced himself to take part in these conversations to help overcome his shyness in social settings. These conversations did help with his shyness and also in forming many opinions and observations about Canada. It put Fisher on the road to becoming Mr. Canada and delivering the many eloquent speeches for which he was known. Fisher did not venture far from home to complete his first degree. In 1934 he graduated from Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB with an Arts degree. The same year Fisher enrolled in Dalhousie’s law school. During his time at Dalhousie, Fisher discovered radio through Hugh Mills. Mills or “Uncle Mel” was on CHNS, Halifax’s only radio station at the time. Fisher began by making appearences on the radio drama show. By 1941 he had begun writing and broadcasting his own works and joined the staff as an announcer and continuity writer. In 1936 the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation was formed, the first National radio station. Fisher joined the CBC shortly after it’s beginning and remained with them, as well as the Halifax Herald newspaper, even after his law school graduation in 1937. By 1943 Fisher’s talks became a part of the CBC’s programming for a group of maritime radio stations. Fisher once described his talks as follows “my talks weren’t meant to be objective. . . they were meant to be favourable. They were ‘pride builders’” He began his famed John Fisher Reports at CBC Toronto when he transfered there shortly after the war. This program brought emmence pride to the fellow Canadians he spoke about leading to approximately 3500 requests per year to speak at banquets and meeting throughout Canada and the United States. Fisher was a well travelled indivdual who would draw on personal experiences to connect with his audience. His stories were told in simple, straight forward language for anyone to enjoy. He became a smooth, dynamic and passionate speaker who sold Canada to Canadians. He became a renowned journalist, folk historian, writer and broadcaster. Fisher was able to reach a vast array of people through his radio work and build Canadian pride, but he did not stop there. Other ways Fisher has contributed to Canada and the Canadian people include: Honoured by five Canadian Universities. 1956, became the Director of the Canadian Tourist Association. 1961, was appointed Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Canada. 1963, Commissioner of the Centennial Commission (the Federal Agency Responsible for Canada’s 100th birthday) 1968, received the Service Medal , a coveted Order of Canada. President of John Fisher Enterprises Ltd., private consultant work, specializing in Centennial planning, broadcasts, lectures and promotion. John Fisher continued recording radio broadcasts even after his diagnosis with cancer. He would record 3 or 4 at a time so he was free to travel across Canada, the U.S., Europe and Mexico in search of treatments. Fisher passed away from the disease on February 15, 1981 and he is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.

Traditional employment options for persons with developmental disabilities are lacking. Employment options available for persons with developmental disabilities are reflective of the medical and social model perspectives of disability; with segregated and supported employment reinforcing the idea that persons with developmental disabilities are incapable and competitive employment missing the necessary accommodations for persons to be successful. This study examined social enterprises as an alternative employment option that can balance both medical and social model perspectives by accommodating for weaknesses or limitations and recognizing the strengths and capabilities of persons with developmental disabilities in the workplace. Moreover, this study is part of a broader case study which is examining the nature and impacts of a social enterprise, known as Common Ground Co-operative (CGC), which supports five social purpose businesses that are owned and operated by persons with developmental disabilities. This study is part of the Social Business and Marginalized Social Groups Community-University Research Alliance. To date, a case study has been written describing the nature and impacts of CGC and its related businesses from the perspectives of the Partners, board members, funders and staff (Owen, Readhead, Bishop, Hope & Campbell, in press & Readhead, 2012). The current study used a descriptive case study approach to provide a detailed account of the perceptions and opinions of CGC staff members who support each of the Partners in the five related businesses. Staff members were chosen for the focus of this study because of the integral role that they play in the successful outcomes of the persons they support. This study was conducted in two phases. In the first phase five staff members were interviewed. During this stage of interviews, several themes were presented which needed to be examined in further detail, specifically staff stress and burnout and duty of care for business Partners versus the promotion of their autonomy. A second phase of interviews was then conducted with one individual participant and a focus group of seven. During both interview phases, Staff participants described an employment model that creates a non-judgemental environment for the business Partners that promotes their strengths, accommodates for their limitations, provides educational opportunities and places the responsibility for the businesses on the persons with developmental disabilities cultivating equality and promoting independence. Staff described the nature of their role including risk factors for stress, the protective factors that buffer stress, and the challenges associated with balancing many role demands. Issues related to the replication of this social enterprise model are described.

Die Arbeit stellt einen strukturellen Rahmen zur Einordnung sowohl bisheriger als auch zukünftiger organisationstheoretischer und DV-technologischer Entwicklungen zur Umsetzung eines Computer Integrated Business (CIB) bereit. Dazu analysiert sie bisherige Ansätze und zukünftige Perspektiven eines CIB mittels theoretischer und empirischer Bearbeitungsverfahren. Die Notwendigkeit zur Unternehmensintegration ergibt sich aus dem betriebswirtschaftlichen Konzept der Arbeitsteilung, über die das Phänomen der Economies of Scale erschlossen wird. Die Arbeitsteilung wurde zum Gestaltungskonzept in den Fabriken der industriellen Revolution. Komplexe Arbeitsgänge wurden in spezialisierte Teilaufgaben zerlegt und nach Möglichkeit auf maschinelle bzw. technologische Potentiale übertragen. Die Zielsetzung lag zunächst in der Automatisierung des Materialflusses, während der Informationsfluss noch lange Zeit im Hintergrund stand. Mittlerweile ermöglichen leistungsfähige DV-Systeme auch die Automatisierung des Informationsflusses und damit die DV-gestützte Integration des Unternehmens, die den Kern des CIB-Konzeptes darstellt. Das CIB-Konzept wurde Ende der achtziger Jahre am Fraunhofer-Institut für Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation als Erweiterung des Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) für Industrieunternehmen von Bullinger geprägt, jedoch in seiner Zielsetzung als Modell zur Totalintegration von Unternehmen danach nicht maßgeblich weiterentwickelt. Vielmehr wurden in der Folgezeit überwiegend Teilintegrationslösungen diskutiert, wie z. B. Konzepte zur Integration der Fertigung oder zur Unterstützung der Teamarbeit. Der Aspekt der umfassenden, unternehmensinternen Integration rückte Mitte der neunziger Jahre durch die an Popularität gewinnende Internet-Technologie an den Rand der wissenschaftlichen Diskussion. Erst nach dem Zusammenbruch der ersten Internet-Euphorie und der anschließenden wirtschaftlichen Rezession gewann das Integrationsthema am Anfang dieses Jahrzehnts mit Hinblick auf dadurch mögliche Kostenvorteile wieder an Bedeutung. Die Diskussion wurde jedoch mit starkem technologischem Fokus geführt (z. B. zum Thema Enterprise Application Integration) und Aspekte der Unternehmensorganisation wurden bestenfalls grob, jedoch nicht im Detail diskutiert. Die vorliegende Arbeit bearbeitet die CIB-Thematik umfassend sowohl aus unternehmensorganisatorischer als auch DV-technologischer Sicht und bewegt sich deshalb interdisziplinär zwischen den Wissenschaftsbereichen der Betriebswirtschaft und der Informatik. Die Untersuchung wird vor dem Hintergrund einer sozio-technologischen Unternehmensorganisation geführt, in der DV-technologische Potentiale neben humanen Potentialen zur Erreichung der Unternehmensziele eingesetzt werden. DV-technologische Potentiale übernehmen darin einerseits Integrationsaufgaben und werden andererseits aber selbst zum Integrationsziel. Die Herausforderung für die Unternehmensführung besteht in der Konfiguration des CIB und im Finden eines Gleichgewichts zwischen Arbeitsteilung und Integration auf der einen sowie humanen und technologischen Potentialen auf der anderen Seite, letztendlich aber auch in der Automatisierung der Integration. Die Automatisierung der Integration stellt mit Hinblick auf die durch Umweltveränderungen bedingte Konfigurationsanpassung ein bisher konzeptionell nur ansatzweise gelöstes Problem dar. Der technologischen Integrationsarchitektur sowie den verwendeten Methoden des Prozessdesigns und der Software-Entwicklung kommt bei der Lösung dieses Problems eine hohe Bedeutung zu. Über sie bestimmt sich die Anpassungsfähigkeit und geschwindigkeit des CIB. Es kann vermutet werden, dass eine Lösung jedoch erst erreicht wird, wenn sich die Unternehmensorganisation vom Konzept der zentralen Koordination abwendet und stattdessen an dezentralen Koordinationsmechanismen unter Verwendung ultrastabiler Anpassungsprogramme orientiert, wie sie z. B. in der Biologie bei Insektenkulturen untersucht wurden.

However, EM architectures and methods for Enterprise Engineering can also used to support new management techniques like SIX SIGMA, because these new techniques need a clear, transparent and integrated definition and description of the business activities of the enterprise to be able to build up, optimize and operate an successful enterprise. The main goal of SIX SIGMA is to optimize the performance of processes. A still open question is: "What are the adequate Quality criteria and methods to ensure such performance? What must we do to get Quality governance?" This paper describes a method including an Enterprise Engineering method and SIX SIGMA strategy to reach Quality Governance

This paper argues that the Japanese business system cannot be adequately understood without extending the focus of analysis beyond the individual firm to the vertical keiretsu, or business group. The vertical group or keiretsu structure was first identified and studied in the auto and electronics industries, where it is most strongly marked, but it characterizes virtually all sectors, service industries as well as manufacturing. Large industrial vertical keiretsu are composed of subsidiaries engaged in three distinct types of activities (manufacturing, marketing, and quasirelated business). The coordination and control systems are built on the flows of products, financial resources, information and technology, and people across formal company boundaries, with the parent firm controlling the key flows. The paper examines the prevailing explanations first for the emergence and then for the persistence of the vertical group structure, and looks at the current pressures for change and adaptation in the system.

Las pymes son el mayor grupo representativo de empresas en Colombia, estas contribuyen en buena medida en los diferentes indicadores socioeconómicos y son el pilar fundamental para el empleo y la producción nacional. Es por ello que el gobierno nacional busca el desarrollo de programas que ayuden e incentiven la competitividad de estas para fomentar las exportaciones no tradicionales y generar desarrollo económico. Estas preocupaciones dan lugar a que el Estado, la empresa privada y la academia se unan en proyectos para dar herramientas a los empresarios en la preparación de sus empresas para incursionar en los mercados extranjeros. En este sentido, La secretaria de Desarrollo Económico de la Alcaldía Mayor de Bogotá, Maloka y el Centro de Innovación y Desarrollo Empresarial CIDEM extensión de la Facultad de Administración del Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, se unen en el “Proyecto Maloka” que consta de cinco fases: Inteligencia de mercados, costos, logística, área comercial, área internacional. Este proyecto tiene como finalidad el desarrollo de un plan exportador donde se plasman las estrategias y la ruta a seguir de las diferentes empresas escogidas. Lo que se presenta a continuación es el producto del trabajo que se desarrolla con Colombia Ají E.U. una de las empresas que entró a hacer parte de este programa y en donde se muestra el plan exportador resultante.

La optimización y armonización son factores clave para tener un buen desempeño en la industria química. BASF ha desarrollado un proyecto llamada acelerador. El objetivo de este proyecto ha sido la armonización y la integración de los procesos de la cadena de suministro a nivel mundial. El proceso básico de manejo de inventarios se quedó fuera del proyecto y debía ser analizado. El departamento de manejo de inventarios en BASF SE ha estado desarrollando su propia estrategia para la definición de procesos globales de manufactura. En este trabajo se presentará un informe de las fases de la formulación de la estrategia y establecer algunas pautas para la fase de implementación que está teniendo lugar en 2012 y 2013.
