As crianças com perturbações do Espectro do Autismo revelam acentuadas limitações ao nível das interacções sociais, tanto pela ausência de iniciação interativa com os seus pares, como pela falta de resposta às atitudes afetivas dos mesmos. Esta incapacidade para estabelecer relações sociais dificulta o convívio, mesmo quando os seus pares demonstram interesse em brincar. Ao longo da realização deste trabalho, através das leituras, vários autores referiram a importância da promoção das competências sociais nestas crianças. Com este estudo procura-se saber como são aceites os alunos com perturbações do Espectro do Autismo pelos seus pares sem Necessidades Educativas Especiais em contexto escolar. Propõe-se, assim, recolher as opiniões de vários alunos que frequentam o mesmo centro escolar face à presença de um colega com perturbações do Espectro do Autismo, de modo a fazer uma análise dos dados obtidos, bem como a elaboração de um plano de intervenção para uma melhoria da situação problema. Com base na análise das entrevistas realizadas no âmbito do estudo pode-se afirmar que os resultados da investigação revelam um contexto escolar positivo e empenhado no apoio aos alunos com perturbações do Espectro do Autismo. De acordo com os inquiridos e com os investigadores estudados na revisão da literatura é possível afirmar que o desenvolvimento das atividades lúdicas e um acompanhamento personalizado por um professor especializado, bem como a integração na turma, são fatores fundamentais para um melhor desenvolvimento global dos alunos em questão e para a prevenção de atitudes discriminatórias entre pares.

Esta pesquisa caracteriza-se como um estudo de caráter exploratório e tem como foco averiguar de que maneira o professor é significado na sociedade atual, analisando a importância da sua imagem através da representatividade social formulada e refletida no espaço escolar. Para tal evidência, partimos da afirmativa de que o bom professor, (professor ideal), tem relevância para a relação interpessoal no ambiente escolar, bem como, na vida escolar e intelectual do discente, culminando posteriormente em sua vida social e profissional. Com base nestes aspectos, decidiu-se fazer um estudo acerca deste temário. A coleta de dados realizou-se em uma escola pública estadual do Ensino Médio de Pernambuco/Brasil. A população alvo deste estudo refere-se a 112 alunos que totalizaram 03 salas de aulas de Ensino Médio dos períodos diurno e noturno da respectiva escola pública. O procedimento de coleta de dados foi composto por duas etapas: A primeira etapa da pesquisa consistiu na natureza exploratória com o objetivo de oferecer uma explicação geral sobre o temário através de delimitação do estudo e levantamento bibliográfico. A segunda etapa da pesquisa se constituiu pela aplicação de questionários, cujos resultados foram exportados para o software SPSS, haja vista de se tratar de dados quantitativos. Os aspectos investigados sobre o professor real e ideal se alicerçaram em torno das análises relacionadas às características pessoais e de personalidade, de relacionamento e das características profissionais que os professores possuem. Os dados levantados evidenciaram que na percepção dos alunos participantes da investigação, estes aspectos estão interligados, não sendo possível concebê-los de forma separada, pois juntos, contribuem para que o professor ―ideal seja responsável por encaminhamentos significativos que abarquem descobertas decisivas, momentos iluminadores, instigantes, hilários e ampliantes.

A presente pesquisa tem por finalidade investigar com os participantes do Projeto “Escola que Protege” quais as violências mais comuns registradas nas escolas e o impacto deste nas atividades desenvolvidas nas escolas no combate à violência. A violência contra a criança e o adolescente representa, atualmente, um grave problema de saúde pública no mundo e a escola é o ambiente frequentado diariamente pelas crianças, por isso torna-se um local de extrema e fundamental importância para o seu crescimento e desenvolvimento, interferindo diretamente em sua postura e comportamento futuros. Optamos por uma pesquisa qualitativa, que por meio das entrevistas pudéssemos verificar o entendimento dos sujeitos desta investigação sobre a violência escolar e a repercussão do Projeto “Escola que Protege” no município. E, ao analisá-las, concluiu-se que as violências mais comuns existentes nos municípios pesquisados não são diferentes das encontradas nas outras regiões do país, onde existe o trabalho infantil, casos de violência doméstica, bullying, além do abuso sexual, que também acomete as crianças destes municípios. Detectamos por fim que o Projeto Escola que Protege, conseguiu alcançar resultados positivos em todos os municípios pesquisados, levando informações importantes aos educadores, capacitando-os para a resolução ou o encaminhamento dos casos de violência infantil detectadas no âmbito escolar.

A presente investigação tem como objetivo compreender como os professores de Língua Portuguesa integram a linguagem da comunicação pela Internet em sua prática pedagógica, uma vez que a linguagem utilizada na comunicação virtual demonstra variações linguísticas na expectativa oposta a Língua Portuguesa em sua forma padrão e, neste contexto, a escola e o professor de português representam intermédios possíveis entre o escrito padrão e o virtual. Após processo investigativo que contou com recolha de dados documentais e entrevistas semiestruturadas, constata-se que os professores de Língua Portuguesa ressaltam as diferenças da linguagem na comunicação pela Internet em relação à forma padrão na mesma precisão em que defendem o uso da tecnologia no ambiente escolar. Afirmam que, neste contexto, o papel do professor de português concentra-se no preparo do estudante para o uso da forma padrão, permitindo uma abertura em sua prática à linguagem na comunicação virtual. Neste sentido, defendem que o posicionamento adequado do professor de Língua Portuguesa diante do ensino da língua padrão e sua relação com a linguagem virtual, centraliza-se numa abertura para um estudo linguístico na perspectiva dos possíveis usos sociais da língua, possuindo como referencial a forma padrão da Língua Portuguesa.

Specifically the study addresses perceptual and conceptual functioning in both deaf and hearing children and whether there is a difference in performance as a function of hearing status, as attributable to age differences, or as a function of the school environment.

The ability to predict the responses of ecological communities and individual species to human-induced environmental change remains a key issue for ecologists and conservation managers alike. Responses are often variable among species within groups making general predictions difficult. One option is to include ecological trait information that might help to disentangle patterns of response and also provide greater understanding of how particular traits link whole clades to their environment. Although this ‘‘trait-guild” approach has been used for single disturbances, the importance of particular traits on general responses to multiple disturbances has not been explored. We used a mixed model analysis of 19 data sets from throughout the world to test the effect of ecological and life-history traits on the responses of bee species to different types of anthropogenic environmental change. These changes included habitat loss, fragmentation, agricultural intensification, pesticides and fire. Individual traits significantly affected bee species responses to different disturbances and several traits were broadly predictive among multiple disturbances. The location of nests – above vs. below ground – significantly affected response to habitat loss, agricultural intensification, tillage regime (within agriculture) and fire. Species that nested above ground were on average more negatively affected by isolation from natural habitat and intensive agricultural land use than were species nesting below ground. In contrast below-ground-nesting species were more negatively affected by tilling than were above-ground nesters. The response of different nesting guilds to fire depended on the time since the burn. Social bee species were more strongly affected by isolation from natural habitat and pesticides than were solitary bee species. Surprisingly, body size did not consistently affect species responses, despite its importance in determining many aspects of individuals’ interaction with their environment. Although synergistic interactions among traits remain to be explored, individual traits can be useful in predicting and understanding responses of related species to global change.

Current feed evaluation systems for dairy cattle aim to match nutrient requirements with nutrient intake at pre-defined production levels. These systems were not developed to address, and are not suitable to predict, the responses to dietary changes in terms of production level and product composition, excretion of nutrients to the environment, and nutrition related disorders. The change from a requirement to a response system to meet the needs of various stakeholders requires prediction of the profile of absorbed nutrients and its subsequent utilisation for various purposes. This contribution examines the challenges to predicting the profile of nutrients available for absorption in dairy cattle and provides guidelines for further improved prediction with regard to animal production responses and environmental pollution. The profile of nutrients available for absorption comprises volatile fatty acids, long-chain fatty acids, amino acids and glucose. Thus the importance of processes in the reticulo-rumen is obvious. Much research into rumen fermentation is aimed at determination of substrate degradation rates. Quantitative knowledge on rates of passage of nutrients out of the rumen is rather limited compared with that on degradation rates, and thus should be an important theme in future research. Current systems largely ignore microbial metabolic variation, and extant mechanistic models of rumen fermentation give only limited attention to explicit representation of microbial metabolic activity. Recent molecular techniques indicate that knowledge on the presence and activity of various microbial species is far from complete. Such techniques may give a wealth of information, but to include such findings in systems predicting the nutrient profile requires close collaboration between molecular scientists and mathematical modellers on interpreting and evaluating quantitative data. Protozoal metabolism is of particular interest here given the paucity of quantitative data. Empirical models lack the biological basis necessary to evaluate mitigation strategies to reduce excretion of waste, including nitrogen, phosphorus and methane. Such models may have little predictive value when comparing various feeding strategies. Examples include the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Tier II models to quantify methane emissions and current protein evaluation systems to evaluate low protein diets to reduce nitrogen losses to the environment. Nutrient based mechanistic models can address such issues. Since environmental issues generally attract more funding from governmental offices, further development of nutrient based models may well take place within an environmental framework.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the cost and environmental impact of replacing traditional corn, which is the main ingredient in poultry diets, with a high-oil corn (HOC) variety. Using linear programming, diets were formulated with either traditional corn or HOC. The results indicate that HOC-based diets cost up to $11.38/tonne less than traditional corn-based diets. Using HOC rather than traditional corn in diets has the potential to reduce the annual nitrogen excreted to the environment from broilers and broiler breeders in Brazil by 6.44 Mtonnes. In addition, there is the potential to reduce P excretion by 4.52 Mtonnes/yr, because the need to supplement diets with inorganic P sources, such as dicalcium phosphate, is much lower with HOC-based diets. We estimate that 28.5 Mtonnes of dicalcium phosphate can be saved annually using HOC in Brazilian poultry diets. The literature suggests that replacing traditional corn with HOC does not affect bird metabolism, while positive impacts on growth rate have been recorded. Therefore, substituting traditional corn with HOC has cost and environmental benefits for the Brazilian poultry industry without compromising productivity.

In many river floodplains in the UK, there has been a long history of flood defence, land reclamation and water regime management for farming. In recent years, however, changing European and national policies with respect to farming, environment and flood management are encouraging a re-appraisal of land use in rural areas. In particular, there is scope to develop, through the use of appropriate promotional mechanisms, washland areas, which will simultaneously accommodate winter inundation, support extensive farming methods, deliver environmental benefits, and do this in a way which can underpin the rural economy. This paper explores the likely economic impacts of the development of flood storage and washland creation. In doing so, consideration is given to feasibility of this type of development, the environmental implications for a variety of habitats and species, and the financial and institutional mechanisms required to achieve implementation. This paper investigates Willingness to Accept (WTA) Genetic Modification (GM) foods based on experimental auctions carried out in the USA, UK and France. It explores perceptions of risk and benefits, moral concerns and their antecedents, attitudes to the environment and technology and trust in various sources using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Trust in information provided by industry proved to be the most important determinant of risk/benefit perceptions and WTA followed by general attitudes to the environment and technology. Education and age are also enhance perceived benefits and lower perceived risks of GM. Perception of risk/benefit and moral concerns all have significant effects on consumers' WTA but the perceived benefits are most important. The research suggests that trust-building by industry would be the most effective in enhancing GM acceptance.

Diffuse pollution, and the contribution from agriculture in particular, has become increasingly important as pollution from point sources has been addressed by wastewater treatment. Land management approaches, such as construction of field wetlands, provide one group of mitigation options available to farmers. Although field wetlands are widely used for diffuse pollution control in temperate environments worldwide, there is a shortage of evidence for the effectiveness and viability of these mitigation options in the UK. The Mitigation Options for Phosphorus and Sediment Project aims to make recommendations regarding the design and effectiveness of field wetlands for diffuse pollution control in UK landscapes. Ten wetlands have been built on four farms in Cumbria and Leicestershire. This paper focuses on sediment retention within the wetlands, estimated from annual sediment surveys in the first two years, and discusses establishment costs. It is clear that the wetlands are effective in trapping a substantial amount of sediment. Estimates of annual sediment retention suggest higher trapping rates at sandy sites (0.5–6 t ha�1 yr�1), compared to silty sites (0.02–0.4 t ha�1 yr�1) and clay sites (0.01–0.07 t ha�1 yr�1). Establishment costs for the wetlands ranged from £280 to £3100 and depended more on site specific factors, such as fencing and gateways on livestock farms, rather than on wetland size or design. Wetlands with lower trapping rates would also have lower maintenance costs, as dredging would be required less frequently. The results indicate that field wetlands show promise for inclusion in agri-environment schemes, particularly if capital payments can be provided for establishment, to encourage uptake of these multi-functional features.

In the recent past there was a widespread working assumption in many countries that problems of food production had been solved, and that food security was largely a matter of distribution and access to be achieved principally by open markets. The events of 2008 challenged these assumptions, and made public a much wider debate about the costs of current food production practices to the environment and whether these could be sustained. As in the past 50 years, it is anticipated that future increases in crop production will be achieved largely by increasing yields per unit area rather than by increasing the area of cropped land. However, as yields have increased, so the ratio of photosynthetic energy captured to energy expended in crop production has decreased. This poses a considerable challenge: how to increase yield while simultaneously reducing energy consumption (allied to greenhouse gas emissions) and utilizing resources such as water and phosphate more efficiently. Given the timeframe in which the increased production has to be realized, most of the increase will need to come from crop genotypes that are being bred now, together with known agronomic and management practices that are currently under-developed.

Previous studies from our laboratory have documented that the medial hypothalamic defensive system is critically involved in processing actual and contextual predatory threats, and that the dorsal premammillary nucleus (PMd) represents the hypothalamic site most responsive to predatory threats. Anatomical findings suggest that the PMd is in a position to modulate memory processing through a projecting branch to specific thalamic nuclei, i.e., the nucleus reuniens (RE) and the ventral part of the anteromedial nucleus (AMv). In the present study, we investigated the role of these thalamic targets in both unconditioned (i.e., fear responses to predatory threat) and conditioned (i.e., contextual responses to predator-related cues) defensive behaviors. During cat exposure, all experimental groups exhibited intense defensive responses with the animals spending most of the time in the home cage displaying freezing behavior. However, during exposure to the environment previously associated with a cat, the animals with combined RE + AMv lesions, and to a lesser degree, animals with single AMv unilateral lesions, but not animals with single RE lesions, presented a reduction of contextual conditioned defensive responses. Overall, the present results provide clear evidence suggesting that the PMd`s main thalamic targets (i.e., the nucleus reuniens and the AMv) seem to be critically involved in the emotional memory processing related to predator cues. The aim of this didactic study is to understand the terms of work, education and teaching of Swedish in a period round 2000. The research questions focus on how teachers at upper secondary school in conversations describe and construct their work, values in society and school, structures of power and relation to time. With the help of tools related to story and storytelling, and by connecting the empirical material to a late modern society, I caninterpret and understand the description of their work. With the help of Pierre Bourdieu’s theory I can see how values, power and relation to time are expressed in different ways when teachers of Swedish talk about their work and education.The results show that when teacher talk about work in school is it related to ideals in a global economy. Decentralization and individualization get new meanings when those words are placed in school environment and activity. Effectiveness, flexibility and individualization are words related to economy and they seem to have an effect on education and subjects of Swedish. I can also understand teachers’ work when it is related to power and values on the educational field. I can see how a diffuse power acts on the field and how harmony is a dominant value and a term that influences teachers’ work. New terms also form new identities related to teaching. New terms form new subjects of Swedish that in time and practice will form newhabitus connected to subjects. I call it ämneskonceptionella habitus.

Bakgrund: Att bli mamma till ett för tidigt fött barn (<37 gestationsveckor) innebär en oväntad stress vilket påverkar hela familjen. Under de senaste årtionden har stora förbättringar skett inom perinatal vård och numera är chansen till överlevnad stor. Att barnet efter födseln vårdas på neonatal intensivvårdsavdelning (NICU) får konsekvenser för mamman både känslomässigt och i omvårdnaden av barnet. Syfte: Att undersöka föräldrastress och beskriva faktorer som påverkar tidig föräldrastress hos mammor till för tidigt födda barn när barnet är två månader i korrigerad ålder. Metod: Studien utfördes på fyra NICU i Sverige. Inklusionskriterierna för studien var att barnet var för tidigt fött samt vårdades på neonatalavdelning i minst 72 timmar. För att mäta upplevd föräldrastress fick mammorna (n=276) svara på enkäten Swedish Parental Stress Questionnaire (SPSQ) när barnet var två månader i korrigerad ålder. Resultat: Mammor vars barn inte vårdades på en samvårdsavdelning, som hade barn i kuvös, mammor till barn med äldre syskon, var äldre, rökte och/eller ammade helt upplevde mer föräldrastress än övriga mammor. Slutsats: Studien visar att faktorer i framför allt i miljön samt hos mamman har betydelse för upplevd föräldrastress. Våra resultat innebär att omhändertagandet bör bli bättre, både under tiden på neonatalavdelning men även efter utskrivning. Då studien också påvisar vikten av samvårdsavdelning bör förbättringar ske i den fysiska vårdmiljön för att minimera upplevelsen av föräldrastress.
