In this report, I present trace element data for basement samples at Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Site 1256. The samples analyzed represent a subset of the group ("pool") samples from ODP Leg 206, and these trace element data are part of a more comprehensive data suite for the same samples, with analyses of stable and radiogenic isotopes (e.g., Sr, Li, and O) in progress or recently completed that will be presented elsewhere. The trace element analyses were performed in the GeoAnalytical Lab at Washington State University. The following elements were analyzed: La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Ba, Th, Nb, Y, Hf, Ta, U, Pb, Rb, Cs, Sr, Sc, and Zr. Trace element data indicate that the igneous basement at Site 1256 is geochemically normal mid-ocean-ridge basalt. A massive ponded flow sampled in both Holes 1256C and 1256D is distinguished by higher abundances of rare earth elements (REE) and most of the other trace elements analyzed. One interval of highly altered basalt has significantly higher concentrations of Cs, Rb, and Ba and lower concentrations of Sr, Pb, Zr, Hf, Sc, and most REE than the samples of background alteration or halos. No correlation is obvious between trace element abundance and macroscopic type of alteration within the background alteration or halos.

Drilling a complete deep crustal section has been a primary yet elusive goal since the inception of scientific ocean drilling. In situ ocean crustal sections would contribute enormously to our understanding of the formation and subsequent evolution of the ocean crust, in particular the interplay between magmatic, hydrothermal, and tectonic processes. Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 206 was the first of a multileg project to drill an in situ crustal section that penetrated the gabbroic rocks of the Cocos plate (6°44.2'N, 91°56.1'W), which formed ~15 m.y. ago on the East Pacific Rise during a period of superfast spreading (>200 mm/yr) (Wilson, Teagle, Acton, et al., 2003, doi:10.2973/odp.proc.ir.206.2003). During Leg 206, the upper 500 m of basement was cored in Holes 1256C and 1256D with moderate to high recovery rates. The igneous rocks recovered are predominantly thin (10 cm to 3 m) basalt flows separated by chilled margins. There are also several massive flows (>3 m thick), although their abundance decreases with depth in Hole 1256D, as well as minor pillow basalts, hyaloclastites, and rare dikes. The lavas have been slightly (<10%) altered by low-temperature hydrothermal fluids, which resulted in pervasive dark gray background alteration and precipitation of saponite, pyrite, silica, celadonite, and calcium carbonate veins. Here we present a geochemical analysis of the CaCO3 recovered from cores. The compositions of ridge flank fluids within superfast spreading crust will be determined from these data, following the approach of Hart et al. (1994, doi:10.1029/93JB02035), Yatabe et al. (2000, doi:10.2973/odp.proc.sr.168.003.2000), and Coggon et al. (2004, doi:10.1016/S0012-821X(03)00697-6).

During the civil war between Caesar and Pompey, the military oath which binds the soldier to his army is often openly violated. Yet despite this offense, commanders of armed struggle require recursively the oath to their men. Admittedly, this ritual act seems ineffective given the many desertions and mutinies identified, but military leaders use its symbolic and sacred meaning to legitimize one hand their “anti-republican” actions, on the other armies fighting in a context deemed impius.

Learning Analytics is an emerging field focused on analyzing learners’ interactions with educational content. One of the key open issues in learning analytics is the standardization of the data collected. This is a particularly challenging issue in serious games, which generate a diverse range of data. This paper reviews the current state of learning analytics, data standards and serious games, studying how serious games are tracking the interactions from their players and the metrics that can be distilled from them. Based on this review, we propose an interaction model that establishes a basis for applying Learning Analytics into serious games. This paper then analyzes the current standards and specifications used in the field. Finally, it presents an implementation of the model with one of the most promising specifications: Experience API (xAPI). The Experience API relies on Communities of Practice developing profiles that cover different use cases in specific domains. This paper presents the Serious Games xAPI Profile: a profile developed to align with the most common use cases in the serious games domain. The profile is applied to a case study (a demo game), which explores the technical practicalities of standardizing data acquisition in serious games. In summary, the paper presents a new interaction model to track serious games and their implementation with the xAPI specification.

The paper explores competitive balance in top tier English league football from its inception in 1888. It examines the extent to which finishing in the top four positions in successive seasons is the preserve of a small number of clubs. Using a range of statistical measures, the analysis shows that the current high levels of competitive imbalance are not new phenomena. The overall pattern approximates a ‘U curve’: current patterns parallel those in the 1890s. In the early years of English league football, differences in resources between clubs soon became apparent. Clubs from the larger conurbations generated consistently larger revenues than their counterparts in the smaller industrial towns. This was primarily the result of the larger crowds that they could attract to their home games. This enabled them to entice the best players to their clubs away from their smaller rivals. The introduction of the maximum wage in 1901 and the transfer system helped to stem these increasing inequalities between clubs. This coincided with a massive wave of new stadia construction which enabled all the clubs to compete on an increasingly level playing field. These conjunctural changes to English football before 1915 produced the era of relatively competitive football during the inter-war years. This continued until the abolition of the maximum wage in 1961. Since that time, competitive balance has reversed and become increasingly restricted. English top-tier football has re-entered an era of extreme competitive imbalance.

Nigerian scam, also known as advance fee fraud or 419 scam, is a prevalent form of online fraudulent activity that causes financial loss to individuals and businesses. Nigerian scam has evolved from simple non-targeted email messages to more sophisticated scams targeted at users of classifieds, dating and other websites. Even though such scams are observed and reported by users frequently, the community’s understanding of Nigerian scams is limited since the scammers operate “underground”. To better understand the underground Nigerian scam ecosystem and seek effective methods to deter Nigerian scam and cybercrime in general, we conduct a series of active and passive measurement studies. Relying upon the analysis and insight gained from the measurement studies, we make four contributions: (1) we analyze the taxonomy of Nigerian scam and derive long-term trends in scams; (2) we provide an insight on Nigerian scam and cybercrime ecosystems and their underground operation; (3) we propose a payment intervention as a potential deterrent to cybercrime operation in general and evaluate its effectiveness; and (4) we offer active and passive measurement tools and techniques that enable in-depth analysis of cybercrime ecosystems and deterrence on them. We first created and analyze a repository of more than two hundred thousand user-reported scam emails, stretching from 2006 to 2014, from four major scam reporting websites. We select ten most commonly observed scam categories and tag 2,000 scam emails randomly selected from our repository. Based upon the manually tagged dataset, we train a machine learning classifier and cluster all scam emails in the repository. From the clustering result, we find a strong and sustained upward trend for targeted scams and downward trend for non-targeted scams. We then focus on two types of targeted scams: sales scams and rental scams targeted users on Craigslist. We built an automated scam data collection system and gathered large-scale sales scam emails. Using the system we posted honeypot ads on Craigslist and conversed automatically with the scammers. Through the email conversation, the system obtained additional confirmation of likely scam activities and collected additional information such as IP addresses and shipping addresses. Our analysis revealed that around 10 groups were responsible for nearly half of the over 13,000 total scam attempts we received. These groups used IP addresses and shipping addresses in both Nigeria and the U.S. We also crawled rental ads on Craigslist, identified rental scam ads amongst the large number of benign ads and conversed with the potential scammers. Through in-depth analysis of the rental scams, we found seven major scam campaigns employing various operations and monetization methods. We also found that unlike sales scammers, most rental scammers were in the U.S. The large-scale scam data and in-depth analysis provide useful insights on how to design effective deterrence techniques against cybercrime in general. We study underground DDoS-for-hire services, also known as booters, and measure the effectiveness of undermining a payment system of DDoS Services. Our analysis shows that the payment intervention can have the desired effect of limiting cybercriminals’ ability and increasing the risk of accepting payments.

Background: Levels of endoscopic demand and capacity in West Africa are unclear. Objectives: This paper aims to: 1. describe the current labor and endoscopic capacity, 2. quantify the impact of a mixed-methods endoscopy course on healthcare professionals in West Africa, and 3. quantify the types of diagnoses encountered. Methods: In a three-day course, healthcare professionals were surveyed on endoscopic resources and capacity and were taught through active observation of live cases, case discussion, simulator experience and didactics. Before and after didactics, multiplechoice exams as well as questionnaires were administered to assess for course efficacy. Also, a case series of 23 patients needing upper GI endoscopy was done. Results: In surveying physicians, less than half had resources to perform an EGD and none could perform an ERCP, while waiting time for emergency endoscopy in urban populations was at least one day. In assessing improvement in medical knowledge among participants after didactics, objective data paired with subjective responses was more useful than either alone. Of 23 patients who received endoscopy, 7 required endoscopic intervention with 6 having gastric or esophageal varices. Currently the endoscopic capacity in West Africa is not sufficient. A formal GI course with simulation and didactics improves gastrointestinal knowledge amongst participants.

Grupo I (n=9; 5 mujeres y 4 varones), utilizando brackets pasivos de autoligado Damon Q Grupo II (n= 8; 4 mujeres y 4 varones) utilizando brackets convencionales prescripción Roth y MBT. Grupo III (n=6; 4 mujeres y 2 varones) utilizando brackets Biofuncional QR.
