The gamma-ray decay of excited states of the one-valence-proton nucleus Sb-133 has been studied using cold-neutron induced fission of U-235 and Pu-241 targets, during the EXILL campaign at the ILL reactor in Grenoble. By using a highly efficient HPGe array, coincidences between gamma-rays prompt with the fission event and those delayed up to several tens of microseconds were investigated, allowing to observe, for the first time, high-spin excited states above the 16.6 mu s isomer. Lifetimes analysis, performed by fast-timing techniques with LaBr3(Ce) scintillators, revealed a difference of almost two orders of magnitude in B(M1) strength for transitions between positive-parity medium-spin yrast states. The data are interpreted by a newly developed microscopic model which takes into account couplings between core excitations (both collective and non-collective) of the doubly magic nucleus Sn-132 and the valence proton, using Skyrme effective interaction in a consistent way. The results point to a fast change in the nature of particle-core excitations with increasing spin. (C) 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Background: Lifetimes of nuclear excited states in fission fragments have been studied in the past following isotope separation, thus giving access mainly to the fragments' daughters and only to long-lived isomeric states in the primary fragments. For the first time now, short-lived excited states in the primary fragments, produced in neutron-induced prompt fission of U-235 and Pu-241, were studied within the EXILL&FATIMA campaign at the intense neutron-beam facility of the Institute Laue-Langevin in Grenoble. Purpose: We aim to investigate the quadrupole collective properties of neutron-rich even-even Xe-138,Xe-140,Xe-142 isotopes lying between the double shell closure N = 82 and Z = 50 and a deformed region with octupole collectivity. Method: The gamma rays emitted from the excited fragments were detected with a mixed array consisting of 8 HPGe EXOGAM Clover detectors (EXILL) and 16 LaBr3(Ce) fast scintillators (FATIMA). The detector system has the unique ability to select the interesting fragment making use of the high resolution of the HPGe detectors and determine subnanosecond lifetimes using the fast scintillators. For the analysis the generalized centroid difference method was used. Results: We show that quadrupole collectivity increases smoothly with increasing neutron number above the closed N = 82 neutron shell. Our measurements are complemented by state-of-the-art theory calculations based on shell-model descriptions. Conclusions: The observed smooth increase in quadrupole collectivity is similar to the evolution seen in the measured masses of the xenon isotopic chain and is well reproduced by theory. This behavior is in contrast to higher Z even-even nuclei where abrupt change in deformation occurs around N = 90.

Current industry proposals for Hardware Transactional Memory (HTM) focus on best-effort solutions (BE-HTM) where hardware limits are imposed on transactions. These designs may show a significant performance degradation due to high contention scenarios and different hardware and operating system limitations that abort transactions, e.g. cache overflows, hardware and software exceptions, etc. To deal with these events and to ensure forward progress, BE-HTM systems usually provide a software fallback path to execute a lock-based version of the code. In this paper, we propose a hardware implementation of an irrevocability mechanism as an alternative to the software fallback path to gain insight into the hardware improvements that could enhance the execution of such a fallback. Our mechanism anticipates the abort that causes the transaction serialization, and stalls other transactions in the system so that transactional work loss is mini- mized. In addition, we evaluate the main software fallback path approaches and propose the use of ticket locks that hold precise information of the number of transactions waiting to enter the fallback. Thus, the separation of transactional and fallback execution can be achieved in a precise manner. The evaluation is carried out using the Simics/GEMS simulator and the complete range of STAMP transactional suite benchmarks. We obtain significant performance benefits of around twice the speedup and an abort reduction of 50% over the software fallback path for a number of benchmarks.

This doctoral Thesis aims to approach the philosophical significance of the Italian author Elsa Morante, expressed through poetic narrative of her second great novel L'isola di Arturo (1957). For this reason, the inductive knowledge has been opted, which can be reached through the symbolic study of the sea and the mediterranean. From the philosophical and psychoanalytical research from such authors as Mircea Eliade, Gaston Bachelard and Carl Jung, linked to the circle of the Eranos Foundation in Switzerland, where the most rigorous multidisciplinary science theories of nature and man converged, and the Grenoble imaginary Center of Research, driven by anthropologist Gilbert Durand in 1966, a revealing investigation of aquatic and marine image has been carried out. In this context of convergence, the work Las estructuras antropológicas del imaginario by Durand, has fulfilled the important catalytic role, of both the Renaissance conception that wants to observe certain universal components in the symbolic vision that nourishes literary expression, as well as the compilation of large images that illuminate the human imaginary of all time. Objectives and results In this regard, it has been considered that the appropriate approach to morantiano imaginary, could only be done thoroughly, based on a repertoire of images as complete as possible, which, if performed from the anthropological compendium of people and civilization of the world, it is offered as a study backed by profound consistency which is the basis of the method. Therefore, it is said, the imaginary is studied and understood through itself. Thus, the internal coherence of this method is seen to be configured as a form of knowledge of human thought because research, from the symbolic point of view, dissects reality in various ways, however, the most seductive is to consider the possibility of an internal coherence between them to converge at a common conclusion which includes all of them. This fact determines the systematization which is shown in the first part of this thesis, as the image and symbol have a close homogeneity between the signifier and the meaning, so that metaphorical expression is established as the structuring element of the human imaginary and the literary representation...
