Nel panorama motoristico ed automobilistico moderno lo sviluppo di motori a combustione interna e veicoli è fortemente influenzato da diverse esigenze che spesso sono in contrasto le une con le altre. Infatti gli obiettivi di economicità e riduzione dei costi riguardanti la produzione e la commercializzazione dei prodotti sono in contrasto con gli sforzi che devono essere operati dalle case produttrici per soddisfare le sempre più stringenti normative riguardanti le emissioni inquinanti ed i consumi di carburante dei veicoli. Fra le numerose soluzioni presenti i veicoli ibridi rappresentano una alternativa che allo stato attuale è già presente sul mercato in varie forme, a seconda della tipologie di energie accoppiate. In letteratura è possibile trovare numerosi studi che trattano l’ottimizzazione dei componenti o delle strategie di controllo di queste tipologie di veicoli: in moltissimi casi l’obiettivo è quello di minimizzare consumi ed emissioni inquinanti. Normalmente non viene posta particolare attenzione agli effetti che l’aggiunta delle macchine elettriche e dei componenti necessari per il funzionamento delle stesse hanno sulla dinamica del veicolo. Il presente lavoro di tesi è incentrato su questi aspetti: si è considerata la tipologia di veicoli ibridi termici-elettrici di tipo parallelo andando ad analizzare come cambiasse il comportamento dinamico del veicolo in funzione del tipo di installazione considerato per la parte elettrica del powertrain. In primo luogo è stato quindi necessario costruire ed implementare un modello dinamico di veicolo che permettesse di applicare coppie alle quattro ruote in maniera indipendente per considerare diverse tipologie di powertrain. In seguito si sono analizzate le differenze di comportamento dinamico fra il veicolo considerato e l’equivalente versione ibrida e i possibili utilizzi delle macchine elettriche per correggere eventuali deterioramenti o cambiamenti indesiderati nelle prestazioni del veicolo.

The ninth release of the Toolbox, represents over fifteen years of development and a substantial level of maturity. This version captures a large number of changes and extensions generated over the last two years which support my new book “Robotics, Vision & Control”. The Toolbox has always provided many functions that are useful for the study and simulation of classical arm-type robotics, for example such things as kinematics, dynamics, and trajectory generation. The Toolbox is based on a very general method of representing the kinematics and dynamics of serial-link manipulators. These parameters are encapsulated in MATLAB ® objects - robot objects can be created by the user for any serial-link manipulator and a number of examples are provided for well know robots such as the Puma 560 and the Stanford arm amongst others. The Toolbox also provides functions for manipulating and converting between datatypes such as vectors, homogeneous transformations and unit-quaternions which are necessary to represent 3-dimensional position and orientation. This ninth release of the Toolbox has been significantly extended to support mobile robots. For ground robots the Toolbox includes standard path planning algorithms (bug, distance transform, D*, PRM), kinodynamic planning (RRT), localization (EKF, particle filter), map building (EKF) and simultaneous localization and mapping (EKF), and a Simulink model a of non-holonomic vehicle. The Toolbox also including a detailed Simulink model for a quadcopter flying robot.

The Marine Systems Simulator (MSS) is an environment which provides the necessary resources for rapid implementation of mathematical models of marine systems with focus on control system design. The simulator targets models¡Xand provides examples ready to simulate¡Xof different floating structures and its systems performing various operations. The platform adopted for the development of MSS is Matlab/Simulink. This allows a modular simulator structure, and the possibility of distributed development. Openness and modularity of software components have been the prioritized design principles, which enables a systematic reuse of knowledge and results in efficient tools for research and education. This paper provides an overview of the structure of the MSS, its features, current accessability, and plans for future development.

This paper presents a detailed simulation model of a Naval coastal patrol vessel. The vessel described is a 50m long, fast monohull coastal patrol vessel. The paper describes the complete model and its implementation in Matlab-Simulink. In order to promote the use of this model, the Simulink files are openly available through a website.

[ES]El objetivo principal de este proyecto consiste en desarrollar una librería en Matlab- Simulink correspondiente a un OBD (Sistema de diagnóstico a bordo) para el vehículo eléctrico. Se pretende comprobar el correcto funcionamiento de la librería ejecutando el software en tiempo real mediante un PLC proporcionado por Tecnalia, realizando la comunicación entre PLC y PC mediante bus CAN. En este contexto, la ejecución del proyecto seguiría la metodología de software del ciclo en V con las siguientes fases principales: Desarrollo de las comunicaciones en Simulink (Plataforma PC).Implementación del software en plataformas de prototipado rápido (Dspace). Validación y testeo. Implementación final en DSP.

Neste trabalho, apresenta-se um modelo de controle de trajetória para um manipulador constituído de um braço rígido e um braco flexível com atuadores e sensores piezelétricos. O modelo dinamico do manipuladoré obtido de forma fechada através da formulacao de Lagrange. O controle utiliza o torque dos motores como atuadores para controle da trajetoria do angulo das juntas e tambem para atenuar as vibracoes de baixa frequencia induzidas nos bracos do manipulador. A estabilidade deste controlador e garantida pela teoria de estabilidade de Lyapunov. Atuadores e sensores piezeletricos sao adicionados para controlar as vibracoes de alta freqüência nâo alcançadas pelo controle de torque dos motores. Além disso,é proposta uma otimização simultânea do controle e dos atuadores e sensores através da maximização da energia dissipada no sistema, devido µa ação do controle, com otimização do posicionamento e tamanho dos atuadores e sensores piezelétricos na estrutura. Simulações são obtidas através do Matlab/Simulink paraverificar a eficiência do modelo de controle.

This paper presents a methodology and a tool for projects involving analogue and digital signals. A sub-systems group was developed to translation a Matlab/Simulink model in the correspondent structural model described in VHDL-AMS. The developed translation tool, named of MS(2)SV, can reads a file containing a Simulink model translating it in the correspondent VHDL-AMS structural code. The tool also creates the directories structure and necessary files to simulate the model translated in System Vision environment. Three models of D/A converters available commercially that use R-2R ladder network were studied. This work considers some of challenges set by the electronic industry for the further development of simulation methodologies and tools in the field of mixed-signal technology. Although the objective of the studies has been the D/A converter, the developed methodology has potentiality to be extended to consider control systems and mechatronic systems.

In questo lavoro verrà analizzato lo sviluppo di una nuova modellazione matematica per la simulazione della dinamica del flusso all’interno del sistema di aspirazione per motori sovralimentati. Tale modellazione si basa sulla risoluzione numerica mediante la formulazione proposta da Courant, Isaacson e Rees (CIR) nel 1952 per il set delle equazioni non conservative di Eulero per il caso monodimensionale. L’applicazione attraverso il software Matlab-Simulink di tali discretizzazioni numeriche garantisce la possibilità di calcolare la dinamica del flusso all’interno del condotto. L’innovazione proposta da questo lavoro consiste nel considerare l’intero stato da iterare come un vettore, permettendo di gestire parte delle operazioni da compiere con delle matrici. Questo approccio è stato adottato sia per una maggior velocità di calcolo, sia per rendere più agevole la modifica della geometria, ad esempio in fase di progettazione. La routine di lancio del nuovo modello, infatti, gestirà autonomamente la scrittura delle matrici, a partire dai pochi parametri necessari per la definizione della geometria all’interno del codice. Si andranno quindi a presentare i passaggi più importanti che hanno portato alla scrittura del codice, con particolare attenzione poi alla fase di validazione del modello. Essa sarà basata sia su un altro codice presente in letteratura, modellato anch’esso attraverso risoluzione CIR, sia mediante dati sperimentali utilizzati per la validazione di tale implementazione. Seguirà infine un’analisi dettagliata sui fattori che influenzano, positivamente e negativamente, l’esito delle simulazioni realizzate, come la discretizzazione spaziale e quella temporale, prestando sempre particolare attenzione alla stabilità del metodo.

In questo lavoro di tesi si è realizzato un modello matematico con l’intento di fornire uno strumento per lo studio della risposta cardiovascolare alla contropulsazione esterna. L’ EECP (Enhanced External Counterpulsation) è un metodo non invasivo di assistenza cardiaca basato sull’applicazione di pressioni sincronizzate col ritmo cardiaco su determinate superfici corporee. I benefici della terapia su pazienti con sofferenze cardiache sono confermati dalle tabelle cliniche; rimane tuttavia non chiaro il legame diretto tra questi e la EECP. La base del lavoro è un modello della circolazione sanguigna adattato allo studio della situazione in esame e riprodotto mediante il software di calcolo Matlab. Il modello proposto e la relativa simulazione numerica permettono la visualizzazione istantanea delle modifiche che l’azione di contropulsazione apporta al flusso e alla pressione sanguigna, al fine di offrire un aiuto nella ricerca di un legame diretto tra la EECP e i benefici che questa terapia ha sul paziente.

Power generation from alternative sources is at present the subject of numerous research and development in science and industry. Wind energy stands out in this scenario as one of the most prominent alternative in the generation of electricity, by its numerous advantages. In research works, computer reproduction and experimental behavior of a wind turbine are very suitable tools for the development and study of new technologies and the use of wind potential of a given region. These tools generally are desired to include simulation of mechanical and electrical parameters that directly affect the energy conversion. This work presents the energy conversion process in wind systems for power generation, in order to develop a tool for wind turbine emulation testing experimental, using LabVIEW® software. The purpose of this tool is to emulate the torque developed in an axis wind turbine. The physical setup consists of a three phase induction motor and a permanent magnet synchronous generator, which are evaluated under different wind speed conditions. This tool has the objective to be flexible to other laboratory arrangements, and can be used in other wind power generation structures in real time. A modeling of the wind power system is presented, from the turbine to the electrical generator. A simulation tool is developed using Matlab/Simulink® with the purpose to pre-validate the experiment setup. Finally, the design is implemented in a laboratory setup.

This paper presents a multi-objective optimization strategy for heavy truck suspension systems based on modified skyhook damping (MSD) control, which improves ride comfort and road-friendliness simultaneously. A four-axle heavy truck-road coupling system model was established using functional virtual prototype technology; the model was then validated through a ride comfort test. As the mechanical properties and time lag of dampers were taken into account, MSD control of active and semi-active dampers was implemented using Matlab/Simulink. Through co-simulations with Adams and Matlab, the effects of passive, semi-active MSD control, and active MSD control were analyzed and compared; thus, control parameters which afforded the best integrated performance were chosen. Simulation results indicated that MSD control improves a truck’s ride comfort and roadfriendliness, while the semi-active MSD control damper obtains road-friendliness comparable to the active MSD control damper.

Matching method of heavy truck-rear air suspensions is discussed, and a fuzzy control strategy which improves both ride comfort and road friendliness of truck by adjusting damping coefficients of the suspension system is found. In the first place, a Dongfeng EQ1141G7DJ heavy truck’s ten DOF whole vehicle-road model was set up based on Matlab/Simulink and vehicle dynamics. Then appropriate passive air suspensions were chosen to replace the original rear leaf springs of the truck according to truck-suspension matching criterions, consequently, the stiffness of front leaf springs were adjusted too. Then the semi-active fuzzy controllers were designed for further enhancement of the truck’s ride comfort and the road friendliness. After the application of semi-active fuzzy control strategy through simulation, is was indicated that both ride comfort and road friendliness could be enhanced effectively under various road conditions. The strategy proposed may provide theory basis for design and development of truck suspension system in China.

Heart disease is attributed as the highest cause of death in the world. Although this could be alleviated by heart transplantation, there is a chronic shortage of donor hearts and so mechanical solutions are being considered. Currently, many Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) are being developed worldwide in an effort to increase life expectancy and quality of life for end stage heart failure patients. Current pre-clinical testing methods for VADs involve laboratory testing using Mock Circulation Loops (MCLs), and in vivo testing in animal models. The research and development of highly accurate MCLs is vital to the continuous improvement of VAD performance. The first objective of this study was to develop and validate a mathematical model of a MCL. This model could then be used in the design and construction of a variable compliance chamber to improve the performance of an existing MCL as well as form the basis for a new miniaturised MCL. An extensive review of literature was carried out on MCLs and mathematical modelling of their function. A mathematical model of a MCL was then created in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. This model included variable features such as resistance, fluid inertia and volumes (resulting from the pipe lengths and diameters); compliance of Windkessel chambers, atria and ventricles; density of both fluid and compressed air applied to the system; gravitational effects on vertical columns of fluid; and accurately modelled actuators controlling the ventricle contraction. This model was then validated using the physical properties and pressure and flow traces produced from a previously developed MCL. A variable compliance chamber was designed to reproduce parameters determined by the mathematical model. The function of the variability was achieved by controlling the transmural pressure across a diaphragm to alter the compliance of the system. An initial prototype was tested in a previously developed MCL, and a variable level of arterial compliance was successfully produced; however, the complete range of compliance values required for accurate physiological representation was not able to be produced with this initial design. The mathematical model was then used to design a smaller physical mock circulation loop, with the tubing sizes adjusted to produce accurate pressure and flow traces whilst having an appropriate frequency response characteristic. The development of the mathematical model greatly assisted the general design of an in vitro cardiovascular device test rig, while the variable compliance chamber allowed simple and real-time manipulation of MCL compliance to allow accurate transition between a variety of physiological conditions. The newly developed MCL produced an accurate design of a mechanical representation of the human circulatory system for in vitro cardiovascular device testing and education purposes. The continued improvement of VAD test rigs is essential if VAD design is to improve, and hence improve quality of life and life expectancy for heart failure patients.
