Annual Report of the Game and Fisheries Department for the period Ist July, 1957 to 30th June, 1958

This report follows the now established practice of covering the financial year although, as before, for the sake of continuity and accuracy many of the statistics refer to the calendar year. This year has again been an outstanding one in the field of research on wildlife conservation problems, and culminated in one of the largest short-term biological projects yet carried out in the Protectorate. The latter involved the removal by shooting of nearly 500 hippo from badly over-grazed areas in the Queen Elizabeth National Park, but every carcass was examined by a team of scientists, a variety of scientific data collected, and the meat disposed of for local consumption. Not one animal was wasted.

In diesem Beitrag wird das von Thomas Martens und Jürgen Rost entwickelte Integrierte Handlungsmodell reflektiert, auf Lernprozesse übertragen, theoretische erweitert und beispielhaft empirisch überprüft. Zunächst werden die theoretischen Potenziale des Modells aufgezeigt, indem es auf Lernprozesse angewendet wird. Danach werden die typischen Prozesse der drei Handlungsphasen dargestellt, insbesondere die funktionslogische Integration von bewussten und unbewussten sowie kognitiven und affektiven Prozessen. Abschließend wird eine empirische Studie vorgestellt, die das Lernen von Statistik im Hochschulbereich untersucht. Mit Hilfe von Mischverteilungsmodellen werden sieben Lerntypen identifiziert, die den entsprechenden motivationalen, intentionalen und volitionalen Mustern der Lern- und Handlungsgenese entsprechen. Ist patriotischer Nationalstolz wünschenswert? Eine differenzierte Analyse seiner psychologischen Bedeutung

Previous studies found that patriotic national pride (e.g., pride in democracy) - as opposed to nationalistic national pride (e.g., pride in being German) - has an attenuating effect on ethnocentrism, which is desirable from a democratic standpoint. Here it is hypothesized (1) that patriotic pride can be ascribed to the three components national identification, importance of democratic aspects of Germany, and belief in existence of democratic aspects of Germany, and (2) that these components exert in part conflicting effects on ethnocentrism and other variables. In two questionnaire studies (N-1 = 121, N-2 = 150) it is shown that (1) the three components do predict patriotic national pride and (2) the democratically desirable effects of patriotic pride trace back primarily to the importance of democratic aspects. In conclusion, from a democratic standpoint, it is positive valuation of democratic aspects and not patriotic pride that should be nurtured.
