Nanoparticles in SiH4-Ar plasma: Modelling and comparison with experimental data

Experimental and theoretical investigations for growth of silicon nanoparticles (4 to 14 nm) in radio frequency discharge were carried out. Growth processes were performed with gas mixtures of SiH4 and Ar in a plasma chemical reactor at low pressure. A distinctive feature of presented kinetic model of generation and growth of nanoparticles (compared to our earlier model) is its ability to investigate small"critical" dimensions of clusters, determining the rate of particle production and taking into account the influence of SiH2 and Si2Hm dimer radicals. The experiments in the present study were extended to high pressure (≥20 Pa) and discharge power (≥40 W). Model calculations were compared to experimental measurements, investigating the dimension of silicon nanoparticles as a function of time, discharge power, gas mixture, total pressure, and gas flow.

Les partícules modals de la llengua alemanya i l’anàlisi del seu ús comparant el llenguatge oral real i el fingit

Resum: El treball està enfocat en les anomenades “partícules modals” de la llengua alemanya. La part teòrica inclou informació extreta de diferents fonts bibliogràfiques i a la part pràctica se n’analitza l’ús a partir d’un exercici elaborat amb fragments del guió de dues pel·lícules (llenguatge oral fingit) i la col·laboració d’estudiants de diferents parts d’Alemanya.

La traducció de l'humor en el doblatge i la subtitulació

Aproximació a la traducció de guions d'humor per a doblatge i subtitulació. En el treball es tracten temes referents a l'humor com l'especificitat depenent de la cultura i els tipus d'humor que es poden trobar en les pel·lícules. A banda, s'exposen els problemes que comporta la traducció de films còmics als traductors audiovisuals i com els solucionen. Per arribar a això, en el treball primer s'estudien els processos de doblatge i subtitulació i les característiques especials a l'hora de traduir per a cadascun d'ells. Finalment, faig una proposta de traducció d'una escena de la sèrie d'humor The Office, posant en pràctica el que es comenta durant el treball i exposant els problemes amb els quals m'he trobat.

Blue luminescence at room temperature in defective MgO films

Luminescence spectroscopy has been used to characterize MgO films prepared by rf-sputtering. A clear correlation is found between the appearance of an emission peak centered at approximately 460 nm and the detection of ferromagnetic ordering in the samples. We suggest that cationic vacancies are responsible for the blue-light emission by introducing p states into the electronic band-gap. In accordance with this, our results strongly indicate that cationic vacancies are at the heart of the appearance of long-range magnetic ordering in MgO films.

Why we fight és un grup de set pel·lícules de format documental que van formar part d’un ampli programa d’informació, formació i propaganda impulsat per l’exèrcit nord-americà, en el moment en què els Estats Units ja s’havien implicat en la Segona Guerra Mundial. És també un dels més reeixits exercicis de retòrica cinematogràfica nord-americana d’aquell període que permet analitzar com els països democràtics van gestionar qüestions tan compromeses com la propaganda de guerra. La pretensió d’aquest treball de recerca és aprofundir en la complexitat ideològica i formal de la sèrie, que faci possible descobrir-ne els orígens, els objectius i la manera com aquests van ser assolits per un grup d’especialistes cinematogràfics, coordinats pel director Frank Capra, tots els quals havien triomfat fins llavors a Hollywood

Compositional influence on the electrical performance of zinc indium tin oxide transparent thin-film transistors

In this work, zinc indium tin oxide layers with different compositions are used as the active layer of thin film transistors. This multicomponent transparent conductive oxide is gaining great interest due to its reduced content of the scarce indium element. Experimental data indicate that the incorporation of zinc promotes the creation of oxygen vacancies. In thin-film transistors this effect leads to a higher threshold voltage values. The field-effect mobility is also strongly degraded, probably due to coulomb scattering by ionized defects. A post deposition annealing in air reduces the density of oxygen vacancies and improves the fieldeffect mobility by orders of magnitude. Finally, the electrical characteristics of the fabricated thin-film transistors have been analyzed to estimate the density of states in the gap of the active layers. These measurements reveal a clear peak located at 0.3 eV from the conduction band edge that could be attributed to oxygen vacancies.

Selective ablation of photovoltaic materials with UV laser sources for monolithic interconnection of devices based on a-Si:H

Lasers are essential tools for cell isolation and monolithic interconnection in thin-film-silicon photovoltaic technologies. Laser ablation of transparent conductive oxides (TCOs), amorphous silicon structures and back contact removal are standard processes in industry for monolithic device interconnection. However, material ablation with minimum debris and small heat affected zone is one of the main difficulty is to achieve, to reduce costs and to improve device efficiency. In this paper we present recent results in laser ablation of photovoltaic materials using excimer and UV wavelengths of diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser sources. We discuss results concerning UV ablation of different TCO and thin-film silicon (a-Si:H and nc-Si:H), focussing our study on ablation threshold measurements and process-quality assessment using advanced optical microscopy techniques. In that way we show the advantages of using UV wavelengths for minimizing the characteristic material thermal affection of laser irradiation in the ns regime at higher wavelengths. Additionally we include preliminary results of selective ablation of film on film structures irradiating from the film side (direct writing configuration) including the problem of selective ablation of ZnO films on a-Si:H layers. In that way we demonstrate the potential use of UV wavelengths of fully commercial laser sources as an alternative to standard backscribing process in device fabrication.

Avalanche-like vortex penetration driven by pulsed microwave fields in an epitaxial LaSrCuO thin film

Different vortex penetration regimes have been registered in the output voltage signal of a magnetometer when single microwave pulses are applied to an epitaxial overdoped La2− x Sr x CuO4 thin film in a perpendicular dc magnetic field. The onset of a significant variation in the sample magnetization which exists below threshold values of temperature, dc magnetic field, and pulse duration is interpreted as an avalanche-type flux penetration. The microwave contribution to the background electric field suggests that the nucleation of this fast vortex motion is of electric origin, which also guarantees the occurrence of vortex instabilities under adiabatic conditions via the enhancement of the flux flow resistivity. Flux creep phenomena and heat transfer effects act as stabilizing factors against the microwave-pulse-induced fast flux diffusion.

La representació fílmica de la intimitat

Aquest treball versa sobre la intimitat i el cinema. S'estructura entres actes. En el primer, explico la meva experiència com a directora d'unapel·lícula que protagonitzo i que vaig censurar per massa impúdica. En elsegon, reflexiono sobre les pel·lícules autobiogràfiques i el concepted'intimitat, per plantejar alguns dels dilemes sobre la seva representaciófílmica. Analitzo i comparo les imatges de pel·lícules de dos directors, NaomiKawase i Jonathan Caouette, qui també s'hi han encarat, buscant l'efectemirall. En el tercer, considero les motivacions, les compensacions, la reacciódels espectadors i les conseqüències d'arriscar-se a exposar la intimitat, lapròpia i la dels qui ens envolten.

Es publiquen dos segells impresos en els fons de sengles vasos de terra sigillata trobats a Tarragona. Es tracta d’impressions de gemmes amb motius mitològics: Prometeu creant l’home del fang i Victòria.

Sidebranching induced by external noise in solutal dendritic growth

We have studied sidebranching induced by fluctuations in dendritic growth. The amplitude of sidebranching induced by internal (equilibrium) concentration fluctuations in the case of solidification with solutal diffusion is computed. This amplitude turns out to be significantly smaller than values reported in previous experiments. The effects of other possible sources of fluctuations (of an external origin) are examined by introducing nonconserved noise in a phase-field model. This reproduces the characteristics of sidebranching found in experiments. Results also show that sidebranching induced by external noise is qualitatively similar to that of internal noise, and it is only distinguished by its amplitude.

Reduced microwave losses of YBa2Cu3O7_thin films on electro-optic LiNbO3 crystals

We report on the growth of epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7 thin films on X-cut LiNbO3 single crystals. The use of double CeO2/YSZ buffer layers allows a single in-plane orientation of YBa2Cu3O7, and results in superior superconducting properties. In particular, surface resistance Rs values of 1.4 m¿ have been measured at 8 GHz and 65 K. The attainment of such low values of Rs constitutes a key step toward the incorporation of high Tc materials as electrodes in photonic and acoustic devices.

Música intrusa

Esta tesina se inscribe en un marco hermenéutico, con el propósito de interpretar una serie de textos fílmicos a partir de su banda sonora. Para ello, acotaremos el ámbito de estudio a la música para cine que proviene del ámbito del rock y de la música popular. Así, se distinguirá una tipología de banda sonora que no presenta dificultades para enmarcarse en las mismas coordenadas que la música de cine proveniente de una tradición sinfónica. Esto nos permitirá introducir un término (“música intrusa”) apto parareferirse a las especificidades de tales bandas sonoras, y su incidencia en el cine de finales del siglo XX y principios del XXI

Nonequilibrium phase transition in a model for the propagation of innovations among economic agents

We characterize the different morphological phases that occur in a simple one-dimensional model of propagation of innovations among economic agents [X. Guardiola et al., Phys. Rev E 66, 026121 (2002)]. We show that the model can be regarded as a nonequilibrium surface growth model. This allows us to demonstrate the presence of a continuous roughening transition between a flat (system size independent fluctuations) and a rough phase (system size dependent fluctuations). Finite-size scaling studies at the transition strongly suggest that the dynamic critical transition does not belong to directed percolation and, in fact, critical exponents do not seem to fit in any of the known universality classes of nonequilibrium phase transitions. Finally, we present an explanation for the occurrence of the roughening transition and argue that avalanche driven dynamics is responsible for the novel critical behavior.
