Javier Pérez Andújar, a través de su propia memoria, crea en Los príncipes valientes (2007) y Paseos con mi madre (2011) un retrato detallado del extrarradio barcelonés. En ambas novelas, el autor combina diferentes elementos: la memoria oral, la metaliteratura, la crónica y la cultura popular. De este modo narra la historia de tres generaciones ubicadas en las afueras de la ciudad. El presente artículo centra su análisis, basándose en una contextualización histórica, en la configuración del espacio y el estudio de las características morfológicas y sociales propias de los extrarradios. Con ello se pretende demostrar la significación histórica y social del extrarradio en la historia contemporánea de Barcelona.

This article demonstrates a visual study on the educational space in which the teaching of body percussion is carried out in universities. The methodological framework is chosen by the Visual Arts Based Educational Research, using the work of an artist as a conceptual and methodological model. The research remains notable (1) due to the theoretical reference to the BAPNE method, (2) due to the visual reference to the work of Isidro Blasco – especially with the piece “Shanghai Planet 2009” - ;(3) due to the parallelisms established between the object of study in this investigation -the spatial analysis- and the focuses of interest revealed by the art critics in relation to the work of this artist. By means of a visual speech formed with 7 photo-collages the relationship between body and educational space is visualized in the basic disposition of circular learning. The visual constructions by way of photo-collage and their aesthetic charge brings us closer to the intimacy of the educational space, in the style in which it is distributed to the students in the music classroom, the materialization of interpersonal relationships, the occupied and empty volumes.

This article reflects on the changing environment through the passage of time and how certain technologies for a creative proposal allow the preservation and transmission of a significant part of that ephemeral heritage for future generations. The general purpose of this particular project is aimed to achieve the sound synthesis of a specific and representative cityscape as the old train station in Cuenca –located in the heart of the city– that could be preserved and reproduced as an unique document of a present time, ascertainable in the future: a memory that interpret sound as a time capsule. This soundscape was made to mark the arrival of the high speed train in 2010 to a brand new station in the outskirts of the city. Therefore, the goal of this research was focused on achieving a synthetic document that provided a sound memory capable of reflecting the significant social, cultural and logistical features, of what was until then the only railway communication symbol in the city of Cuenca from 1883 to the first decade of the 21st century.

This research is set in the context of today’s societies, in which the corporate visual symbology of a business, corporation or institution constitutes an essential way to transmit its corporate image. Traditional discursive procedures can be discovered in the development of these signs. The rhetorical strategies developed by the great classical authors appear in the logo-symbols expressing the corporate values of today’s companies. Thus, rhetoric is emerging once again in the sense it had many centuries ago: A repertory of rules that, paradoxically, standardizes the deviations of language and whose control is synonymous with power. The main objective of this study is to substantiate the rhetorical construction of logos using as a model of analysis the classical process of creating discourse. This involves understanding logos as persuasive discourses addressed to a modern audience. Our findings show that the rhetorical paradigm can be considered as a creative model for the con­struction of an original logo consistent with a company’s image.

Desde su invención en los años cincuenta, la política cultural ha sido objeto de análisis y reflexión por parte de las ciencias sociales. No obstante, en España presenta una serie de características diferenciadoras frente a las democracias occidentales europeas como consecuencia del periodo franquista. Con la recuperación de la democracia España adquiere el paradigma dominante de una política cultural democrática basada en la libertad, el pluralismo y el derecho a la cultura. Sin embargo, tras décadas de gobiernos democráticos el diagnóstico de la política cultural en España presenta rasgos de crisis sistémica, además de los efectos de la crisis global financiera de inicios del siglo XXI. En este contexto, los autores diagnostican, aplicando la metodología Delphi y recurriendo a fuentes secundarias, un conjunto de discursos sociales y narrativas que parecen funcionar como recursos cognitivos solucionistas en la esfera artística y cultural y que no están exentos de contradicciones y aporías, fruto de su contraste empírico.

In 1990, Juan Antonio Ramírez made known his iconological paranoiac method to the academic world. It is a system devised to study Dalí´s work, born of happy matrimony between the catalonian artist´s critical paranoiac method and the first iconographic school of Warburg and Panofsky. What, at first sight, seemed to be an extravagant methodology with little academic credibility, turned out to be, by going forward in time, an effective research method when analyzing Dali´s initial works. It is no wonder that, at the beginning of XXI century, this hybridization between Dalí´s and Panofsky’s methods, were regarded as a strange and nonsensical idea. Nevertheless, twenty years after, blatant examples have been noted, which endorse the advantages of this new system for “iconographic” study. As usual, this new contribution by Juan Antonio Ramirez to art history methodology is called upon to have a successful future survival, in forthcoming generations. This article, attempts to analyze this method, inquiring into the validity, effectiveness and practical utility.

¿Puede un retrato pictórico suscitar un ejercicio de microhistoria? Nuestra investigación tratará de aportar una respuesta positiva a esta cuestión, analizando para ello uno de los pocos retratos del pintor postimpresionista Joaquim Mir Trinxet, fechado en 1926. El protagonista representado no es otro que el suegro del pintor, Antoni Estalella i Trinxet, un insigne personaje de Vilanova y la Geltrú (Barcelona) que vivió entre dos siglos. La obra está ambientada en la tienda de juguetes de la familia, convirtiéndose así en una de las escasas pinturas que han captado el interior de una juguetería en la España anterior a la Guerra Civil. Gracias a los trabajos de archivo realizados, este artículo reúne diversos documentos inéditos que permiten reconstruir no sólo la vida del retratado, que llegó a ser corresponsal de Francisco Pi y Margall, sino también el ambiente social, artístico y comercial de Vilanova, en un período que abarca desde la década de 1870 a la primera mitad del siglo XX, en plena “Edad de Oro” de la industria juguetera. Es esta una propuesta de metodología historiográfica cuyo recorrido comienza en el oficio arcaico de la tonelería para desembocar al fin en los albores del comercio moderno de juguetes.

El paso del tiempo tiene una repercusión inevitable sobre las obras de arte. En el caso del arte contemporáneo muchos de los valores estéticos, culturales o sociales presentes en las mismas, están vinculados a la apariencia y al uso premeditado de la materia. La transformación de la materia tiene una repercusión sobre la intención y el discurso estético, por ello, y ante la imposibilidad de impedir el cambio, se hace necesaria una profunda reflexión sobre el concepto de autenticidad de la obra de arte y sobre el concepto de ruina prematura. Por otro lado, gracias a la figura del artista contemporáneo es posible documentar la producción actual para determinar si la mutación de la materia afectará a lo esencial en las obras. En este sentido, el trabajo ha conseguido concretar, para el caso de varios artistas fundamentales del panorama español, qué aspectos deben, por ser esenciales, permanecer inmutables con el paso del tiempo.

Models of ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems are used as an aid for the correct design and optimization of the system. For this purpose, it is necessary to develop models which correctly reproduce the dynamic thermal behavior of each component in a short-term basis. Since the borehole heat exchanger (BHE) is one of the main components, special attention should be paid to ensuring a good accuracy on the prediction of the short-term response of the boreholes. The BHE models found in literature which are suitable for short-term simulations usually present high computational costs. In this work, a novel TRNSYS type implementing a borehole-to-ground (B2G) model, developed for modeling the short-term dynamic performance of a BHE with low computational cost, is presented. The model has been validated against experimental data from a GSHP system located at Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. Validation results show the ability of the model to reproduce the short-term behavior of the borehole, both for a step-test and under normal operating conditions.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo o processo de construção e validação de um instrumento de observação. Neste contexto, centrámos a análise num requisito fundamental – a validade e fiabilidade do instrumento, instrumento este que servirá de base ao registo dos comportamentos observados durante a execução de vinte ciclos gestuais na técnica de bruços. O instrumento foi composto por um sistema de Formatos de Campo (Oliveira, Campaniço & Anguera, 2001), com base em referências da metodologia observacional e modelos biomecânicos da Natação (Colman & Persyn, 1993; Silva & Alves, 2000; Louro, Garrido, Ferraz, Marinho, Conceição, Tolentino, Barbosa & Silva, 2009), dando especial evidência a cinco critérios taxionómicos que agregam, na forma de códigos alfa-numéricos, a informação decisiva para descrever comportamentos que definem a técnica de bruços. Para garantir o rigor e objectividade do instrumento, foi efectuada a análise à qualidade e validade do instrumento recorrendo ao Índice de Kappa (Anguera, 1993; Blanco 1993, 1997), com base nos registos de cinco observadores treinados (inter-observadores, 96.9%) e, para efeitos de precisão, de mais um perito (intra-observador, 97.8%). Como conclusão, é possível apurar que a valência deste instrumento qualitativo é bem evidente pelos elevados valores de concordância, tornando-se um instrumento adequado para observar os comportamentos técnicos dos nadadores em bruços. - The aim of this study was the process of construction and validation of an observation instrument. In this context, we focused the analysis on a fundamental requirement - the validity and reliability of the instrument. This instrument will serve as basis for the registration of behaviors observed during the execution of twenty gestural cycles of the breaststroke technique. The instrument consisted of a Field Formats system (Oliveira, Campaniço & Anguera, 2001), based on references of the observational methodology and Swimming biomechanical models (Persyn & Colman, 1993; Silva & Alves, 2000; Louro, Garrido, Ferraz, Marinho, Conceição, Tolentino, Barbosa & Silva, 2009), giving special emphasis to five taxonomic criteria that aggregate, in the form of alpha-numeric codes, crucial information to describe behaviors that define the breaststroke technique. To ensure the instrument’s accuracy and objectivity, an analysis of the instrument’s quality and validity was made, using the Kappa Index (Anguera, 1993; Blanco 1993, 1997). This analysis was based on records of five trained observers (inter-observer, 96.9%) and, for accuracy purposes, another expert (intraobserver, 97.8%). In conclusion, it is possible to determine that, given the high reliability values, the validity of this qualitative instrument is evident, making it a suitable instrument to observe the technical behavior in breaststroke swimmers.

Ctra. San Vicente. Finca Santa Engracia. 06071 Badajoz, Spain. Worldwide the consumption of fruit and vegetables is increasing due to the dietary guidelines recommended by nutritionist. Because of their high content on phenols, vitamins, mineral and antioxidants, berry fruits are consumed not only in fresh forms but also as processed and derivative products such as juices, yogurts, jellies and dried fruits. As a high consumed red fruit, sweet cherry has been the focus on some studies, mainly regarding bioactive compounds content. “Sweetheart” cherries from São Julião region (Alentejo, Portugal) from two different production campaigns were kept in different storage conditions in order to evaluate both the environmental and storage effect on some physical-chemical properties and phenolics. Cold conditions - Cold (1 ºC, 95% RH) and modified atmosphere - MA (1 ºC, 95% RH with micro-perforated bags of Pplus®, Sidlaw Packaging, Bristol, UK) were tested. In order to establish the appropriate storage conditions, individual phenolic acids and physical-chemical properties were analysed during two consecutive years. Results show a general decrease on phenolic compounds content between cherries from both years. It is also observed that MA conditions do not affect significantly both phenolics and physical-chemical parameters when compared with Cold conditions. Additionally, it is observed similar behaviour on Cold and MA sweet cherries regarding its pH, total soluble solids content (TSS), titratable acidity (TA) and colour and individual phenols during storage time. Concluding, these results show, as expected, changes between cultivars which may be correlated with the environmental conditions on different years. This work was focused on the analysis of transport, thermomechanical and electrochemical properties of a series of perovskite-like oxide materials and composites for potential applications as anodes of intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) with lanthanum gallate and silicate solid electrolytes. The primary attention was centered on A(Mn,Nb)O3-δ (A = Sr, Ca) and (La,Sr)(Mn,Ti)O3-based systems, lanthanum chromite substituted with acceptor-type and variable-valence cations, and various Ni-containing cermets. Emphasis was given to phase stability of the materials, their crystal structure, microstructure of porous electrode layers and dense ceramics, electronic conductivity, Seebeck coefficient, oxygen permeability, thermal and chemical induced expansion, and anodic overpotentials of the electrodes deposited onto (La,Sr)(Ga,Mg)O3- and La10(Si,Al)6O27- based electrolyte membranes. In selected cases, roles of oxygen diffusivity, states of the transition metal cations relevant for the electronic transport, catalytically active additives and doped ceria protective interlayers introduced in the model electrochemical cells were assessed. The correlations between transport properties of the electrode materials and electrochemical behavior of porous electrodes showed that the principal factors governing anode performance include, in particular, electronic conduction of the anode compositions and cation interdiffusion between the electrodes and solid electrolytes. The latter is critically important for the silicatebased electrolyte membranes, leading to substantially worse anode properties compared to the electrochemical cells with lanthanum gallate solid electrolyte. The results made it possible to select several anode compositions exhibiting lower area-specific electrode resistivity compared to known analogues, such as (La,Sr)(Cr,Mn)O3-δ.

Margarida Tengarrinha oferece - nos, nesta obra, um leque bastante diversificado do património, adentro das “artes da fala”, correndo nas memórias do povo do concelho de Portimão. O fruto da sua recolecção, os “textos” que recebeu, transcreveu e estudou, é aqui editado com uma valência, cremos,, primeiro que tudo pedagógica. Assim, os textos agrupam - se por “manchas de leitura” com uma coerência interna aglutinadora, aparecendo ordenados sob uma classificação entre formal — segundo os “géneros”, como “contos” , “lendas”, “romances”, “orações”, por exemplo — e temática — por “fundos de sentido” semantizados nas comunicações: “bruxas e bruxedos”, “benzeduras, mezinhas, maldições e superstições”, “poesias maliciosas”, por exemplo.
