Synthetic applications of chiral unsaturated epoxy alcohols prepared by sharpless asymmetric epoxidation

An overview of the synthesis and applications of chiral 2,3-epoxy alcohols containing unsaturated chains is presented. One of the fundamental synthetic routes to these compounds is Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation, which is reliable, highly chemoselective and enables easy prediction of the product enantioselectivity. Thus, unsaturated epoxy alcohols are readily obtained by selective oxidation of the allylic double bond in the presence of other carbon-carbon double or triple bonds. The wide availability of epoxy alcohols with unsaturated chains, the versatility of the epoxy alcohol functionality (e.g. regio- and stereo-selective ring opening; oxidation; and reduction), and the arsenal of established alkene chemistries, make unsaturated epoxy alcohols powerful starting materials for the synthesis of complex targets such as biologically active molecules. The popularization of ring-closing metathesis has further increased their value, making them excellent precursors to cyclic compounds.

Vint anys d'excavacions a l'abric del Filador (Margalef de Montsant, Priorat, Tarragona)

L"objectiu d"aquest treball és fer conèixer, de forma molt resumida el procés d"excavació de l"abric del Filador entre el 1978 i el 1997. Durant aquest període de temps la Universitat de Barcelona ha tingut cura de la direcció dels esmentats treballs. Els tres codirectors que hem assolit durant més de temps les responsabilitats de coordinar la recerca volem oferir una síntesi de la història i resultats de vint campanyes ininterrumpudes en un jaciment clau per entendre el desenvolupament de l"Epipaleolític al NE peninsular i la façana mediterrània ibèrica.

Enantioselective formal synthesis of ent-rhynchophylline and ent-isorhynchophylline

Starting from (S)-tryptophanol, a formal synthesis of ent-rhyncho-phylline and ent-isorhynchophylline, involving stereoselective cyclocondensation, spirocyclization, and alkylation reactions, and the final adjustment of the oxidation level at the oxindole and piperidine moieties, is reported.

Synthesis of triheptanoin and formulation as a solid diet for rodents

Triheptanoin-enriched diets have been successfully used in the experimental treatment of various metabolic disorders. Maximal therapeutic effect is achieved in the context of a ketogenic diet where triheptanoin oil provides 3040% of the daily caloric intake. However, pre-clinical studies using triheptanoin-rich diets are hindered by the difficulty of administering to laboratory animals as a solid foodstuff. In the present study, we successfully synthesized triheptanoin to the highest standards of purity from glycerol and heptanoic acid, using sulfonated charcoal as a catalyst. Triheptanoin oil was then formulated as a solid, stable and palatable preparation using a ketogenic base and a combination of four commercially available formulation agents: hydrophilic fumed silica, hydrophobic fumed silica, microcrystalline cellulose, and talc. Diet compliance and safety was tested on C57Bl/6 mice over a 15-week period, comparing overall status and body weight change. Practical applications: This work provides a complete description of (i) an efficient and cost-effective synthesis of triheptanoin and (ii) its formulation as a solid, stable, and palatable ketogenic diet (triheptanoin-rich; 39% of the caloric intake) for rodents. Triheptanoin-rich diets will be helpful on pre-clinical experiments testing the therapeutic efficacy of triheptanoin in different rodent models of human diseases. In addition, using the same solidification procedure, other oils could be incorporated into rodent ketogenic diet to study their dosage and long-term effects on mammal health and development. This approach could be extremely valuable as ketogenic diet is widely used clinically for epilepsy treatment.

El dret dels infants a participar: condicions i condicionants

Aquest article sorgeix d'una tesi doctoral titulada Els infants com a ciutadans, defensada el 2005. L'estudi s'inscriu en el canvi de paradigma que ha representat la Convenció Internacional dels Drets de l'Infant (1989) al situar els infants com a subjectes de drets. Els objectius han estat identificar un fet complex com és la participació dels infants en la vida social; analitzar com els infants poden influir en la generació de noves formes de participació i en nous posicionaments socials, i relacionar aquesta participació dels infants amb la noció de ciutadania. Un altre element important a identificar ha estat la confrontació que aquesta participació planteja en el món dels adults. De fet, l'article fa una breu síntesi de la tesi doctoral en la seva totalitat i exposa amb major extensió una de les parts corresponents a l'anàlisi de les dades obtingudes en què es relaten les condicions i condicionants de la participació infantil.

L'Escola Llagut : tres dècades de la seva història (1983-2013)

El treball està estructurat en tres blocs. El primer és una petita síntesi de la historia l’escola; el segon és un apartat on es descriuen els trets singulars del centre i que han forjat la seva idiosincràsia i el tercer bloc pretén fer un repàs sobre les mesures que es van aplicar o encara es duen a terme a l’escola per a la correcta integració dels nens nouvinguts. Al final d’aquest treball s’inclou un apartat on s’exposen els problemes i els reptes que té l’escola en un futur immediat i les conclusions que serveixen per a valorar l’assoliment o no dels objectius del treball així com la formulació d’algunes possibles propostes de millora

Aminogenesis control in fermented sausages manufactured with pressurized meat batter and starter culture

The application of high hydrostatic pressure (200 MPa) to meat batter just before sausage fermentation and the inoculation of starter culture were studied to improve the safety and quality of traditional Spanish fermented sausages (fuet and chorizo). Higher amounts of biogenic amines were formed in chorizo than in fuet. Without interfering with the ripening performance in terms of acidification, drying and proteolysis, hydrostatic pressure prevented enterobacteria growth but did not affect Gram-positive bacteria significantly. Subsequently, a strong inhibition of diamine (putrescine and cadaverine) accumulation was observed, but that of tyramine was not affected. The inoculated decarboxylase-negative strains, selected from indigenous bacteria of traditional sausages, were resistant to the HHP treatment, being able to lead the fermentation process, prevent enterococci development and significantly reduce enterobacteria counts. In sausages manufactured with either non-pressurized or pressurized meat batter, starter culture was the most protective measure against the accumulation of tyramine and both diamines.

El present estudi aporta una visió global del periodisme econòmic a Espanya des de tres òptiques interrelacionades. La primera és un repàs de l'evolució històrica del sector, complementada amb una descripció de la importància econòmica del mateix, per a finalment, reflexionar sobre els reptes que es plantegen en els propers anys, a un sector durament castigat per la crisi actual. La síntesi del treball es pot veure reflectida mitjançant una representació gràfica dels principals grups mediàtics actuals, que són la viva imatge, tant de la història passada, com els responsables d'escriure el futur del sector periodístic econòmic.

Pauson-Khand Adducts of N-Boc-propargylamine: A New Approach to 4,5-Disubstituted Cyclopentenones

A new approach to the synthesis of 4,5-disubstituted cyclopentenones is described. The strategy is based on the Pauson-Khand (PK) reaction of norbornadiene and N-Boc-propargylamine as alkyne with a masked leaving group, which can be eliminated at will. This approach to the synthesis of 4,5-disubstituted cyclopentenones overcomes the problem of using the alkylation to introduce the alpha-side-chain. As an example, prostane 13-epi-12-oxo-phytodienoic acid (13-epi-12-oxo-PDA) methyl ester was synthesized.

Solid-Phase Synthesis of New Trp(Nps)-Containing Dipeptide Derivatives as TRPV1 Channel Blockers

Trp(Nps)-Lys-NH2 derivatives, bearing alkyl or guanidine groups either at the N-terminus or on the Lys side-chain or at both positions were conveniently prepared on solid-phase and evaluated as TRPV1 channel antagonists.

L'Aula d'autoaprenentatge com a suport de l'aprenentatge de la llengua anglesa en el marc universitari

Aquest article presenta els resultats d’un estudi exploratori que ens ha permès conèixer i detectar els recursos que fan servir els alumnes per a l’aprenentatge de l’anglès i també les mancances de la Facultat de Psicologia, Ciències de l’Educació i de l’Esport Blanquerna (FPCEE) a l’hora d’ajudar els alumnes i el professorat a assolir els nivells requerits segons l’Espai Europeu d’Educació Superior (EEES). Per altra banda, es fa una breu síntesi dels recursos que algunes de les Universitats catalanes posen a l’abast de l’alumne per a l’aprenentatge de la llengua. També es fa un breu repàs d’aspectes com ara el concepte d’autoaprenentatge, els tipus de centres d’autoaprenentatge segons la seva funcionalitat i els factors que afecten l’aprenent a l’hora d’utilitzar-los. Així mateix, es fa un recull dels nous enfocaments metodològics en l’aprenentatge de llengües, tot integrant les TIC i l’aula d’autoaprenentatge. Finalment, es plantegen les conclusions resultants tant de la feina que es fa en altres Universitats com de la informació rebuda per part dels nostres alumnes, i es proposen aspectes a tenir presents de cara a un futur estudi.
