Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena oli tutkia tuotteiden konfiguraation hallinnan sisältöä ja tarkoitusta, sekä olemassa olevien konfiguraation hallinnan standardien vaatimuksia. Näiden vaatimusten mukaisesti, tavoitteena oli koota konfiguraation hallintasuunnitelma Millog Oy:n kunnossapitotoimintaan. Teoreettinen viitekehys laadittiin konfiguraation hallinnan kirjallisuuden sekä olemassa olevien standardien avulla. Teoriaosuudessa tarkasteltiin konfiguraation hallinnan sisällön lisäksi sen merkitystä ja puutteellisuudesta aiheutuvia ongelmia sekä konfiguraation hallinnan organisointia yrityksessä. Empiriaosuudessa tutkittiin Millog Oy:n tämän hetkistä tilaa konfiguraation hallinnan toiminnan osalta sekä nykytilan mahdollisuuksia standardien vaatimustasoiseen konfiguraation hallintaan. Aineistoa kerättiin keskusteluilla ja havainnoimalla. Nykytilan mahdollisuuksia verrattiin teoriaosuudessa käsiteltyihin vaatimuksiin. Vertailu toimii pohjana konfiguraation hallinnan jatkokehitykselle. Aineiston perusteella koottiin konfiguraation hallintasuunnitelma, joka vastaa sisällöltään ja rakenteeltaan standardien vaatimuksia ja joka on yrityksen nykytilaan soveltuva kun huomioidaan tietojärjestelmämahdollisuudet. Suunnitelma toimii ohjeistavana dokumenttina konfiguraation hallinnan toteuttamiseen ja kehittämiseen.

Ohjelmistotuotannon yleinen ongelma on se, että toimitusprojektien läpivientiajat pitkittyvät. Kilpailun kiristyessä ohjelmistoalalla on alettu kiinnittää erityistä huomiota projektien eri vaiheiden tehostamiseen. Process Vision Oy kehittää energiatietojärjestelmiä Suomen energia-alan yrityksille. Yrityksessä on kehitetty vuonna 2010 palvelumalli, jonka avulla pyritään nopeuttamaan toimitusprojektien eri vaiheita. Valtioneuvosto valmisteli vuonna 2009 tuntimittausasetuksen, joka määritti sääntöjä mittaustiedon hallintaan energia-alalla. Kyseisen asetuksen pohjalta Energiateollisuus julkaisi vuonna 2010 ohjeistuksen, joka selkeyttää asetuksen sisällön vaatimuksia jakeluverkonhaltijoille ja sähkön myyjille. Process Vision Oy on valmistellut ohjeistuksen pohjalta tuntimittauspaketin, joka sisältää ohjeistuksen mukaiset toiminnot GENERIS-järjestelmässä. Tässä diplomityössä määritellään Process Vision Oy:n palvelumallin mukaiset standardikomponentit tuntimittauspaketin toimitusprojekteja varten. Työn tavoitteena on kehittää mahdollisimman pitkälle tuotteistettu tuntimittauspaketin toimitus uusille ja vanhoille asiakkaille. Työn lopussa pohditaan miten hyvin palvelumalli soveltuu tuntimittauspaketin toimitusprojekteihin. Lisäksi työssä kartoitetaan yrityksessä käytössä olevien automatisointityökalujen kehitystarpeita. Työn tuloksena saatiin määriteltyä GENERIS-objektit ja konfiguraatiot, jotka toimitetaan tuntimittauspaketin mukana. Työn ohessa sisällytettiin yrityksen Suomen taseselvitysjärjestelmien asennusohjeeseen tuntimittauspaketin toiminnallisuuksien konfigurointi. Uusien vientimäärittelyjen avulla voidaan tuntimittauspaketin toiminnallisuudet toimittaa jatkossa tehokkaammin kuin aiemmin.

Companies and organizations business activities rely on information. IT systems that manage master data must provide the highest level of service, world-class scalability and reliable information. This study discusses product information and how it can support the creation of a spare part catalog and the launching of eBusiness. The study consists of a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part contains a literature review and a framework for the analysis. For the empirical study two companies were selected and their information management processes were studied and analyzed based on the framework. The empirical results indicate that the challenges the companies face reflect the ones that can be found in the literature study. The results of the empirical study also show that the companies had recognized the issues which need to be developed and had recognized trends in eBusiness and product information management.

Data management consists of collecting, storing, and processing the data into the format which provides value-adding information for decision-making process. The development of data management has enabled of designing increasingly effective database management systems to support business needs. Therefore as well as advanced systems are designed for reporting purposes, also operational systems allow reporting and data analyzing. The used research method in the theory part is qualitative research and the research type in the empirical part is case study. Objective of this paper is to examine database management system requirements from reporting managements and data managements perspectives. In the theory part these requirements are identified and the appropriateness of the relational data model is evaluated. In addition key performance indicators applied to the operational monitoring of production are studied. The study has revealed that the appropriate operational key performance indicators of production takes into account time, quality, flexibility and cost aspects. Especially manufacturing efficiency has been highlighted. In this paper, reporting management is defined as a continuous monitoring of given performance measures. According to the literature review, the data management tool should cover performance, usability, reliability, scalability, and data privacy aspects in order to fulfill reporting managements demands. A framework is created for the system development phase based on requirements, and is used in the empirical part of the thesis where such a system is designed and created for reporting management purposes for a company which operates in the manufacturing industry. Relational data modeling and database architectures are utilized when the system is built for relational database platform.

In the market where companies similar in size and resources are competing, it is challenging to have any advantage over others. In order to stay afloat company needs to have capability to perform with fewer resources and yet provide better service. Hence development of efficient processes which can cut costs and improve performance is crucial. As business expands, processes become complicated and large amount of data needs to be managed and available on request. Different tools are used in companies to store and manage data, which facilitates better production and transactions. In the modern business world the most utilized tool for that purpose is ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning system. The focus of this research is to study how competitive advantage can be achieved by implementing proprietary ERP system in the company; ERP system that is in-house created, tailor made to match and align business needs and processes. Market is full of ERP software, but choosing the right one is a big challenge. Identifying the key features that need improvement in processes and data management, choosing the right ERP, implementing it and the follow-up is a long and expensive journey companies undergo. Some companies prefer to invest in a ready-made package bought from vendor and adjust it according to own business needs, while others focus on creating own system with in-house IT capabilities. In this research a case company is used and author tries to identify and analyze why organization in question decided to pursue the development of proprietary ERP system, how it has been implemented and whether it has been successful. Main conclusion and recommendation of this research is for companies to know core capabilities and constraints before choosing and implementing ERP system. Knowledge of factors that affect system change outcome is important, to make the right decisions on strategic level and implement on operational level. Duration of the project in the case company has lasted longer than anticipated. It has been reported that in cases of buying ready product from vendor, projects are delayed and completed over budget as well. In general, in case company implementation of proprietary ERP has been successful both from business performance figures and usability of system by employees. In terms of future research, conducting a study to calculate statistically ROI of both approaches; of buying ready product and creating own ERP will be beneficial.

Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten lääketeollisuusyritys toteuttaa tuoteportfolioidensa hallinnointia ja miten tämän caseyrityksen portfolioprosessi vastaa kirjallisuuden näkemystä tuoteportfolion hallinnoinnista. Tutkimusongelmaa lähestyttiin tapaustutkimuksella caseyrityksen portfolioprosessista, ja tätä prosessia verrattiin kirjallisuuden näkemykseen aiheesta. Empiiristä aineistoa kerättiin pääosin teema- ja lomakehaastatteluilla caseyrityksen projektin avainhenkilöiltä. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin portfolioprosessin olevan vaiheittainen toimintamalli, jonka tavoitteena on hankkia mahdollisimman kannattava tuotevalikoima. Caseyrityksen portfolioprosessi vastasi pääosin aiheen teorian kuvaamaa mallia, mutta prosessia ja etenkin karsintakriteereitä monipuolistamalla voidaan tulevaisuudessa saavuttaa parempia tuloksia. Lääketeollisuudella toimialana on tiettyjä ominaispiirteitä, mutta nämä eivät suoraan näy varsinaisessa portfolioprosessissa. Kuitenkin esimerkiksi erityyppisten liiketoimintayksiköiden tarpeet olisi syytä huomioida tuoteportfolion hallinnointiprosessissa.

This research is looking to find out what benefits employees expect the organization of data governance gains for an organization and how it benefits implementing automated marketing capabilities. Quality and usability of the data are crucial for organizations to meet various business needs. Organizations have more data and technology available what can be utilized for example in automated marketing. Data governance addresses the organization of decision rights and accountabilities for the management of an organization’s data assets. With automated marketing it is meant sending a right message, to a right person, at a right time, automatically. The research is a single case study conducted in Finnish ICT-company. The case company was starting to organize data governance and implementing automated marketing capabilities at the time of the research. Empirical material is interviews of the employees of the case company. Content analysis is used to interpret the interviews in order to find the answers to the research questions. Theoretical framework of the research is derived from the morphology of data governance. Findings of the research indicate that the employees expect the organization of data governance among others to improve customer experience, to improve sales, to provide abilities to identify individual customer’s life-situation, ensure that the handling of the data is according to the regulations and improve operational efficiency. The organization of data governance is expected to solve problems in customer data quality that are currently hindering implementation of automated marketing capabilities.

Tuotehallinta on yrityksissä keskeinen arvoa tuottava toiminto, joka hallinnoi ja johtaa tuotteiden elinkaarta aina ideavaiheesta tuotteiden lopettamiseen saakka. Tuotteiden hyvän kilpailukyvyn kautta yritys saa kilpailuetua markkinassa. Tutkimuksen kohteena oleva case-yritys haluaa kehittää tuotehallinnan toimintaa, jotta se kykenee toimimaan aiempaa tehokkaammin ja menestymään paremmin tiukasti kilpailluilla markkinoilla. Diplomityön päätavoitteena oli löytää keinoja kohdeyrityksen yritysliiketoiminnan tuotehallinnan kehittämiseksi. Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tapaustutkimuksena. Tutkimuksessa käytiin läpi aihealueen tuoretta tutkimustietoa sekä aiempaa teoriaa. Työssä tutkittiin kohdeyrityksen tuotehallinnan nykytilannetta ja kehittämismahdollisuuksia. Saatujen tutkimustulosten pohjalta ja tunnistettua teoriaa hyödyntäen johdettiin konkreettisia kehitystoimenpiteitä. Työ tuotti kriittisen näkökulman tuotehallinnan nykytilanteeseen sekä esityksen tärkeimmiksi tunnistetuista kehittämistoimenpiteistä. Tutkimuksen keskeisimpänä tuloksena toimii johtopäätös tarpeesta rakentaa aiempaa vahvempi tuotehallinta. Tämän aikaansaamiseksi tulee tehdä joukko kehittämistoimenpiteitä, jotka jaettiin lyhyen ja pitkän aikavälin toimenpiteisiin. Kehitystoimenpiteiden toteut-tamiseksi esitetiin muodostettavan oma hallittu kehitysohjelma.

The recent reengineering within the health care industry has challenged many assumptions regarding traditional structures and roles. Within a product-line management structure, the traditional viewpoint that those who manage patient care areas must have a nursing background, is an example of one such assumption being challenged. The nursing profession is often seen as the greatest obstacle to the implementation of a product-line management structure and generic manager positions (does not require a nursing background), due to the perceived loss of professional identity. This qualitative study focused on how nursing staff within a chronic care and rehabilitation facility perceived a generic service manager position. Focus groups were conducted in three phases, over a 14 month period of time. The data collected from the focus groups were then coded according to common themes. Each phase was analyzed independently, with the study concluding with an analysis and interpretation of the collective results. The results of this study revealed a significant shift in how the nursing staff perceived their professional identity and accountability in light of the implementation of the generic Service Manager position. Initial reactions of personal and professional vulnerability and resentment were seen to transform into an increased ability to explicitly articulate the role of nursing. Traffic Management system (TMS) comprises four major sub systems: The Network Database Management system for information to the passengers, Transit Facility Management System for service, planning, and scheduling vehicle and crews, Congestion Management System for traffic forecasting and planning, Safety Management System concerned with safety aspects of passengers and Environment. This work has opened a rather wide frame work of model structures for application on traffic. The facets of these theories are so wide that it seems impossible to present all necessary models in this work. However it could be deduced from the study that the best Traffic Management System is that whichis realistic in all aspects is easy to understand is easy to apply As it is practically difficult to device an ideal fool—proof model, the attempt here has been to make some progress-in that direction.
