Doped ceria (CeO2) compounds are fluorite type oxides that show oxygen ionic conductivity higher than yttria stabilized zirconia, in oxidizing atmosphere. In order to improve the conductivity, the effective index was suggested to maximize the oxygen ionic conductivity in doped CeO2 based oxides. In addition, the true microstructure of doped CeO2 was observed at atomic scale for conclusion of conduction mechanism. Doped CeO2 had small domains (10-50 nm) with ordered structure in a grain. It is found that the electrolytic properties strongly depended on the nano-structural feature at atomic scale in doped CeO2 electrolyte.

The grain-boundary conduction of 8 mol % ytterbia-stabilized zirconia (8YbSZ) was improved markedly by precursor scavenging via the two-stage sintering process. The most significant increase in the grain-boundary conductivity was found when the sample, whose conductivity was higher than that via Al2O3-derived scavenging, was heat-treated at 1250degreesC for greater than or equal to 20 h. The formation of a stable Si-containing phase such as ZrSiO4 during the first-stage heat-treatment was suggested as one probable scavenging route from the optimal heat-treatment temperature (HTT), long duration time (>20 h) at HTT, and the stability of the formed phase up to sintering temperatures (1500degrees C). Low-temperature anneals (1200 degreesC for 40 h) of 8 mol% yttria-stabilised zirconia, prior to the samples being sintered at 1500 degreesC, had the effect of improving the ionic conductivity of the specimens. The presence Of SiO2 in the specimens was shown to be detrimental, however. Irrespective of the SiO2 content, this type of heat treatment also leads to improvements in conductivity. Extensive microstructural analysis provided indication of the mechanism of this phenomenon. This included selective formation of zircon, relief of sintering strain leading to the formation of coherent grain boundaries and segregation effects. The concept of crystallographic index termed the effective index is suggested and applied to the design of ceria (CeO2)-based electrolytes to maximize oxide ionic conductivity. The suggested index considers the fluorite structure, and combines the expected oxygen vacancy level with the ionic radius mismatch between host and dopant cations. Using this approach, oxide ionic conductivity of Sm- or La-doped CeO2-based system has been optimized and tested under operating conditions of a solid oxide fuel cell. In the observation of microstructure in atomic scale, both Sm-doped CeO2 and La-doped CeO2 electrolytes had large micro-domains over 10 nm in the lattice. On the other hand, Sm or La and alkaline earth co-doped CeO2-based electrolytes with high effective index had small micro-domains around 1-3 nm in the microstructure. The large micro-domain would prevent oxide ion from passing through the lattice. Therefore, it is concluded that the improvement of ionic conductivity is reflected in changes of microstructure in atomic scale. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

As a consequence of this, considerable interest has been shown in applications of these materials for low or intermediate temperature operation of solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). In this study, the effective index was suggested to maximize the ionic conductivity in La2O3-CeO2 based oxides. The index considers the fluorite structure, and combines the expected oxygen vacancy level with the ionic radius mismatch between host and dopant cations. Using this approach, the ionic conductivity of this system has been optimized and tested under operating conditions of SOFCs. LaxCe1-xO2-delta (x = 0.125, 0.15, 0.175, and 0.20), (LaxSr1-x)(0.175)Ce0.825O2-delta (x = 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4), and (La1-xSr0.2Bax)(0.175)Ce0.825O2-delta (x 5 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07) were prepared and characterized as the specimens with low, intermediate, and high index, respectively. The ionic conductivity was increased with increasing suggested index. The transmission electron microscopy analysis suggested that partial substitution of alkaline earth elements in place of La into Ce site contributes to a decrease of microdomain size and an improvement of conductivity. (La0.75Sr0.2Ba0.05)(0.175)Ce0.825O1.891 with high index and small microdomains exhibited the highest conductivity, wide ionic domain, and good performance in SOFCs. Este projeto refere-se ?? implementa????o de uma sistem??tica de marca????o de consultas desenvolvida pela Se????o de Arquivo M??dico e Estat??stica do Centro T??cnico Aeroespacial de S??o Jos?? dos Campos. Ap??s um levantamento te??rico e a an??lise dos dados estat??sticos sobre o problema da fila, foi deduzida uma f??mula matem??tica que regula a oferta de consultas. O agendamento de consultas por telefone e um software, foram os instrumentos utilizados para a nova sistem??tica, que veio acompanhada de uma ampla campanha junto aos usu??rios para estimular o novo procedimento. A postura de dar transpar??ncia ao processo fez com que o usu??rio adquirisse confian??a para marcar sua consulta pelo telefone, sem o risco de se sentir preterido por n??o estar presente no hospital. O projeto eliminou as filas sem o aumento do n??mero de m??dicos ou do n??mero de consultas por m??dico

In recent years, the application of silicon (Si) in crops, including coffee, has become a common practice. The objective of this study was to assess the silicon uptake by coffee seedlings and its effects on plant growth, water and macro and micronutrient uptake. The research was conducted using nutrient solution in a greenhouse at the Departamento de Fitotecnia da Universidade Federal de Viçosa, in a completely randomized design with two treatments (with and without silicon) and three replications. Each plot consisted of three plants grown in a 800 mL vessel containing the treatment solutions. At every three days, water consumption, the concentration of OH - and the depletion of Si and K were assessed in the nutrient solutions. After 33 days, the plants were assessed with regard to their fresh and dry weight of leaves, roots and stem, shoot height and total length of the plant (shoot and root). Number of leaves and internodes, and the content and accumulation of silicon, macro, and micronutrients were also determined. The consumption of water, the amount of potassium uptake and, biomass accumulation were greater in plants grown in solution without silicon addition. However, the concentration of OH- in the solution and the amount of silicon uptake were greater in plants grown in solution with added silicon. Silicon accumulation was greater in leaves than in stem and roots. Silicon decreased coffee plant accumulation of phosphorus, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper and iron.

A abordagem convencional do problema da formação de filas para agendar consultas médicas assume, como pressuposto, que a causa primeira está em uma demanda impossível de ser atendida com os recursos disponíveis. Este artigo aponta outras causas, até então desconhecidas, que fundamentaram o desenvolvimento de uma sistemática que fez as filas desaparecerem sem que houvesse aumento no número de médicos ou de consultas/médicos. Essa sistemática é apresentada e analisada em seus aspectos significativos de desenvolvimento e implantação.

Pretendemos mostrar como os sistemas de motion capture permitem transpor para avatares movimentos de pessoas reais para, com o auxílio do processamento gráfico e dos incrementos em Inteligência artificial, criar as planícies de Masahiro Mori, o uncanny valley. Acreditamos que, num futuro próximo, será possível emocionar jogadores se o realismo das interacções no jogo apresentar consistência semelhante às experiências no mundo real.

A pesquisa investiga as novas bases para a formulação das políticas de segurança pública brasileira a partir da análise dos avanços recentes na área, enfocando o Programa Nacional de Segurança Pública com Cidadania (Pronasci). Desde o processo de redemocratização brasileira, os problemas sociais se exacerbaram, como os altos índices de criminalidade e violência em decorrência de um histórico processo de exclusão e desigualdade social das camadas mais baixas da população. A pesquisa busca explicitar as trajetórias da implementação de um novo paradigma no que tange à segurança pública. Assim, toma-se como modelo o processo de descentralização, que faz dos municípios atores-chave da gestão em segurança pública, atuando em cooperação com os outros entes federativos, como estados e União. Os resultados da pesquisa evidenciam o surgimento de um novo modelo de gestão da segurança pública no Brasil no período analisado, baseado no conceito, internacionalmente aceito, de segurança cidadã.

Between November 2001 and December 2002, 600 dog fecal samples were collected in main squares and public parks of 13 cities in Chile, from the extreme north to the extreme south of the country. The samples were processed in the laboratory by centrifugal sedimentation and the Harada-Mori methods. T. canis eggs were found in 12 cities. Detection rates ranged from 1.9 to 12.5% with an average of 5.2%. Seven percent of the samples had eggs and 9.5% had rhabditoid and/or filariform larvae of Ancylostomatidae. Strongyloides stercoralis were not found. Squares and public parks in Chile pose a potential risk of exposure to visceral, ocular, and/or cutaneous larva migrans syndromes.

Functionally graded materials are composite materials wherein the composition of the constituent phases can vary in a smooth continuous way with a gradation which is function of its spatial coordinates. This characteristic proves to be an important issue as it can minimize abrupt variations of the material properties which are usually responsible for localized high values of stresses, and simultaneously providing an effective thermal barrier in specific applications. In the present work, it is studied the static and free vibration behaviour of functionally graded sandwich plate type structures, using B-spline finite strip element models based on different shear deformation theories. The effective properties of functionally graded materials are estimated according to Mori-Tanaka homogenization scheme. These sandwich structures can also consider the existence of outer skins of piezoelectric materials, thus achieving them adaptive characteristics. Realizou-se estudo de intervenção, do tipo ensaio comunitário, envolvendo amostra de 80 famílias residentes em um bairro pobre do município de São Paulo, 2004. A intervenção consistiu em educação nutricional para aumentar a participação de frutas e hortaliças na alimentação familiar, por meio de três reuniões com duas horas de duração, em semanas consecutivas. Para avaliar o impacto imediato dessa intervenção nutricional educativa, as famílias foram divididas randomicamente em dois grupos (intervenção e controle). Apenas o impacto imediato da intervenção foi avaliado, pela participação de frutas e hortaliças no total de alimentos adquiridos pelas famílias no mês anterior e posterior à intervenção. A comparação, favorável ao grupo intervenção, equivaleu a um acréscimo de 2,9 pontos percentuais (IC 95%: 0,32; 5,39) no total de calorias provenientes de frutas e hortaliças.
