The mean residence time of 234Th associated with suspended matter in the Kara Sea was calculated from distributions of dissolved and suspended 234Th. Integral particulate fluxes at different levels were estimated for two stations. The flux increases only in the pycnocline; below it changes insignificantly. Two maxima of differential fluxes are noted in vertical profiles: in the surface layer where primary production is maximal, and in the interface layer where zooplankton realizing active transport of suspended matter is usually concentrated. Differential fluxes were determined at 10 stations; their space distribution is controlled by primary production, which depends usually on turbidity of river water in estuaries.

Software as a service (SaaS) is a service model in which the applications are accessible from various client devices through internet. Several studies report possible factors driving the adoption of SaaS but none have considered the perception of the SaaS features and the pressures existing in the organization’s environment. We propose an integrated research model that combines the process virtualization theory (PVT) and the institutional theory (INT). PVT seeks to explain whether SaaS processes are suitable for migration into virtual environments via an information technology-based mechanism. INT seeks to explain the effects of the institutionalized environment on the structure and actions of the organization. The research makes three contributions. First, it addresses a gap in the SaaS adoption literature by studying the internal perception of the technical features of SaaS and external coercive, normative, and mimetic pressures faced by an organization. Second, it empirically tests many of the propositions of PVT and INT in the SaaS context, thereby helping to determine how the theory operates in practice. Third, the integration of PVT and INT contributes to the information system (IS) discipline, deepening the applicability and strengths of these theories.

Introduction: Within the framework of the «Programme cantonal Diabète», we aimed at collecting data to 1) describe the population of diabetic patients in the canton of Vaud, and 2) assess the quality of their care. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the fall of 2011. Out of 140 randomly selected community pharmacies registered in the canton of Vaud, 56 accepted to participate in patients' recruitment. Noninstitutionalized adult diabetic patients (disease duration >12 months) visiting a pharmacy with a prescription for oral anti-diabetic drugs, insulin, glycemic strips or glucose meter were eligible. Patients not residing in the canton of Vaud, not speaking and understanding French well enough, presenting obvious cognitive impairment, and women with gestational diabetes, were excluded. Using a self-administered questionnaire, data was collected on patients' characteristics and diabetes as well as various process (e.g. recommended annual screenings) and outcomes quality of care indicators. Descriptive analyses were performed. Results: A total of 406 patients with diabetes participated. Mean age was 64 years, 41% were women and 63% were married. Patients reported type 1, 2 and other types of diabetes in 13%, 69% and 19%, respectively. They were treated with oral anti-diabetic drugs, insulin or both in 50%, 23% and 27% of the cases. Half of the patients did not report any diabetes-related complication. Glucose self-monitoring was reported by 82% of the patients. Of those who were aware of HbA1C (n = 218), 98% reported at least one HbA1C control during the last 12 months. During that same time frame, 97% and 95% reported at least one blood pressure and weight measure, 94% reported having had a cholesterol check, 74%, 68% and 64% had eyes, feet and urine screening respectively. 62% of the patients had been immunized against influenza. At least 76% of the patients had a minimum of 5 of the 7 described process indicators performed during the last 12 months. Among patients who knew the value (n = 145), mean HbA1C was 7.4 (SD 1.2). Conclusion: This study targeting community-based diabetic patients shows that while routine clinical and laboratory tests were annually performed in the vast majority of patients, feet and urine screening, as well as influenza immunization, were less often reported by patients. The proportion of patients with diabetes having had at least 5 out of the 7 annual screenings performed was nevertheless very high.

This is a study about language and learning aspects in the interaction between pupils and teachers in classrooms, where the majority of the pupils are bilingual. The aim of the dissertation is to develop the understanding of interactional learning possibilities and constraints in relation to a bilingual context. Language related learning is used as an overall conception which covers learning related to classroom discourse, language and subject. The empirical study has been made in a Swedish speaking school in a strongly Finnish dominated environment in the south of Finland. In the material, mainly consisting of video recorded lessons in forms one to three, the interaction between the pupils and the teachers is analysed. Building on a social constructionist perspective, where learning is regarded as a social phenomenon, situated and visible in changing participation, sequences where pupils or teachers make the language relevant are emphasised. The sequences are analysed in line with the conversation analytic (CA) approach. A fundamental result is an understanding of a monolingual classroom discourse, jointly constructed by teachers and pupils and visible in the pupils' interactionally problematized code-switching. This means that the pupils are not victims of a top-driven language policy; they are active co-constructors of the monolingual discourse. Through different repair initiations the pupils are doing interactional work in positioning themselves correctly in the monolingual discourse, which they simultaneously maintain. This work has a price in relation to time, knowledge and exactness. The pupils' problematized code-switching is often directly and shortly repaired by the teachers. This kind of repair promotes the pupils' participation and is not, as opposed to the results of research in everyday talk, dispreferred in pupil-teacher talk. When the pupils use the possibility to, in a comparatively easy way, participate and thus express their knowledge through codeswitching, and simultaneously talk a monolingual discourse into being, the teacher can, through direct repair, show an understanding in regard to the content, facilitate language learning and simultaneously confirm the pupils as competent speakers and bilingual individuals. Furthermore, significant results show that the monolingual norm has a function of a contrasting background which gives the pupils and the teachers a possibility to use language alternation as a functional and meaningful activity. The pupils use codeswitching as a way of protesting or expressing non-participation in the classroom talk. By making the pupils' bilingualism relevant, the teachers express understanding and empathy and encourage the pupils' participation in the classroom talk. Bilingualism is a nonpreferred, but functioning, resource in the interaction between pupils and teachers.
