This paper presents the control strategies of nonlinear vehicle suspension using a magnetorheological (MR) damper. We used two different approaches for modeling and control of the mechanical and electrical parts of the suspension systems with the MR damper. First, we have formulated and resolved the control problem in order to design the linear feedback dumping force controller for a nonlinear suspension system. Then the values of the control dumping force functions were transformed into electrical control signals by the application of a fuzzy logic control method. The numerical simulations were provided in order to show the effectiveness of this method for the semi-active control of the quarter-car suspension.

This work focuses on applying fuzzy control embedded in microcontrollers in an experimental apparatus using magnetorheological fluid damper. The non-linear behavior of the magnetorheological dampers associated with the parametric variations on vehicle suspension models corroborate the use of the fuzzy controllers. The fundamental formulation of this controller is discussed and its performance is shown through numeric simulations. An experimental apparatus representing a two degree of freedom system containing a magnetorheological damper is used to identify the main parameters and to evaluate the performance of the closed-loop system with the embedded low-cost microcontroller-based fuzzy controller. © 2013 Brazilian Society for Automatics - SBA.

This work intends to perform the dimensioning of the Guaratinguetá’s Engineering College Baja SAE vehicle suspension system. To do so, concepts of suspension systems, human comfort limits to vibrations and automotive models for suspension vibration analyses are reviewed. On the development of this work descriptions of considerations specific for the vehicle object of this work are made as well as descriptions of the experiment made to determine the stiffness of the tire used. These concepts are applied through a computational routine that allows the dimensioning of springs and shock absorbers of both front and rear axles of a vehicle in a way to respect all the criteria showed during this work and visualize the system’s behavior when excited on different frequencies

The present work investigates the nonlinear response of a half-car model. The disturbances of the road are assumed to be sinusoidal. After constructing the bifurcation diagram, we use the 0-1 test to identify chaotic motions. The main objective of this study is to eliminate chaotic behavior of the chassis and reduce its vibrations. To accomplish this, a semi-active vehicle suspension control system, using magneto-rheological dampers, is proposed. The proposed semi-active control strategy consists of two nonlinear control laws: a feedforward control, and a feedback control. They are obtained by considering the SDRE (State Dependent Riccati Equation) control, where the control parameter is the voltage applied to the coils of the magneto-rheological dampers. Numerical results show that the proposed control method is effective in significantly reducing of the chassis vibration, increasing, therefore, passenger comfort.

The present work aims at to approach considerations of trucks suspension design. The proposal of the work consists of discussing the aspects related to the acting of the suspension and of factors that interact with the system through representative models of the dynamic behaviour of the vehicle ride when operating in total load and/or empty conditions. The importance of this work is to revise some procedures of suspension study in the sense of adapting them to the Brazilian reality, tends in view the importance of the design characterisation and adaptation to the typical roads of Brazil. In this paper we study the behavior of a semi-active suspension witch external vibrations. The mathematical model is proposed coupled to a magneto rheological (MR) damper. The goal of this work is stabilize of the external vibration that affect the comfort and durability an vehicle, to control these vibrations we propose the combination of two control strategies, the optimal linear control and the magneto rheological (MR) damper. The optimal linear control is a linear feedback control problem for nonlinear systems, under the optimal control theory viewpoint We also developed the optimal linear control design with the scope in to reducing the external vibrating of the nonlinear systems in a stable point. Here, we discuss the conditions that allow us to the linear optimal control for this kind of non-linear system.

This paper studies the frame deformations on a formula SAE vehicle in steady-state cornering and its influence on the lateral load transfers and, consequently, on the tires normal loads due to the applied lateral load. For a vehicle with a perfect rigid frame, the vehicle mass, the position of the center of gravity and the suspensions are the only factors responsible for the load distribution between the tires. When the frame deformations are no longer negligible, the frame deformations affect the loaddistribution between the tires. The frame flexibility turns it able to behave as an additional set of springs to the suspension system, thus changing the behavior of the set. This paper describes howit happens and suggests ways to minimize this phenomenon
