Information about micronutrients extraction and exportation by castor bean hybrids of short stature, and the periods of highest demand for each micronutrient, are most importance for correct management to fertilization. This study aimed to evaluate the micronutrients extraction and exportation by Savana hybrid castor bean, on season and out-of-season growing. The experiments were conducted during season of 2005/2006 and out-of-season of 2006 in an Oxisol. The experimental design was a randomized block with four replications. The plots were consisted by harvest times of plants, which were carried out at 17, 31, 45, 59, 73, 97 and 120 days after emergence (DAE) during the season and at 17, 31, 45, 59, 80; 100 and 120 DAE in the out-of-season. In both seasons the order of micronutrients extraction by hybrid Savanna is: Fe> Mn> Zn> B> Cu> Mo, but with larger amounts of season cultivation. The time of greatest Zn and Mo absorption during the season and the Fe in out-of-season occurs at 80 DAE, although the other micronutrients are absorbed at higher rates between 50 and 65 DAE. In season the yield, nutrients extraction and exportation from soil are higher than out-of-season, but the nutrients extraction and exportation per ton show less variation between growing seasons. Fifty percent of zinc and 60% of Cu uptaken, on average, in out-of-season is exported with grains, but for the other micronutrients the proportion exported with grains is less than 40%.

In this study we investigated the influence of cu-adrenergic antagonists injections into the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus on the thirst and salt appetite, diuresis, natriuresis, and presser effects of angiotensin II (ANG II) stimulation of medial septal area (MSA). ANG II injection into the MSA induced water and sodium intake, diuresis, natriuresis, and presser responses. The previous injection of prazosin (an alpha (1)-adrenergic antagonist) into the PVN abolished, whereas previous administration of yohimbine (an alpha (2)-adrenergic antagonist) into the PVN increased the water and sodium intake, urinary, natriuretic, and presser responses induced by ANG ii injected into the MSA. Previous injection of a nonselective alpha -adrenergic antagonist, regitin, into the PVN blocked the urinary excretion, and reduced the water and sodium intake, sodium intake, and presser responses induced by ANG II injected into the MSA. The present results suggest that alpha -adrenergic pathways involving the PVN are important for the water and sodium excretion, urine and sodium excretion, and presser responses, induced by angiotensinergic activation of the MSA. The Fortaleza de Minas Ni-Cu-PGE sulfide deposit is hosted by Archean komatiitic rocks of the Morro do Ferro greenstone belt, near the southwestern margin of the Sa (aFrancisco) over tildeo Francisco craton, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The deposit contains 6 million tonnes of ore with an average grade of 2.2 wt% Ni, 0.4% Cu, 0.05% Co and 1.2 ppm PGE+Au, and comprises (i) a main orebody, which is metamorphosed, deformed and transposed along a regional shear zone, consisting mainly of disseminated, brecciated and stringer sulfide ores that are interpreted to be of early magmatic origin, and (ii) PGE-rich discordant veins that are hosted in N-S- and NE-SW-trending late faults that cross-cut the main orebody. The discordant PGE-rich ore (up to 4 ppm total PGE) is characterized by thin, discontinuous and irregular veins and lenses of massive sulfides hosted by serpentinite and talc schist, and is relatively undeformed if compared with the early types of ore. It is composed mainly of pyrrhotite, pentlandite, chalcopyrite, magnetite, carbonates, and amphiboles, with minor cobaltite-gersdorffite, sphalerite, ilmenite, and quartz, and rarely maucherite (Ni11Asg), tellurides and platinum-group minerals (PGM). Omeeite, irarsite, sperrylite, and Ni-bearing merenskyite are the main PGM, followed by minor amounts of testibiopalladite and an unknown phase containing Ru, Te, and As. The PGM occur either included in, or at the margins of, sulfides, sulfarsenides, silicates and oxides, or filling fractures in pyrrhotite, pentlandite, and chalcopyrite, suggesting that they started to precipitate with these minerals and continued to precipitate after the sulfides were formed. The mantle-normalized metal distribution of the two samples of discordant veins shows distinct patterns: one richer in Ni-Pd-Ir-Rh-Ru-Os and another with higher amounts of Cu-Pt-Bi. Both are strongly depleted in Cr if compared with the metamorphosed magmatic ore of this deposit, which follows the general Kambalda-type magmatic trend. on the basis of structural, mineralogical and geochemical evidence, we propose that the PGE-rich discordant ore may have formed by remobilization of metals from the deformed, metamorphosed magmatic orebody (which shows a depleted pattern in these elements) by reduced (pyrrhotite - pentlandite - pyrite are stable), neutral to alkaline and carbonic fluids (carbonate-stable). The PGE may have been transported as bisulfide complexes, and precipitated as tellurides (mainly Pd) and arsenides (Pt, Rh, Ru, Os, Ir) in the late N-S and NE-SW-trending faults owing to a decrease in the activity of S caused by the precipitation of sulfides in the veins.

Pseudohalide complexes of copper(II) with aliphatic bidentate amines, [Cu(N-3)(2)(N,N-diEten)](2) 1, [Cu(NCO)(2)(N,N-diEten)](2) 2, [Cu(NCO)(2)(N,N-diMeen)](2) 3, [Cu(N-3)(NCS)(N,N'-diMeen)](2) 4 and [Cu(N-3)(NCO)(N,N-diMeen)](2) 5 (N,N-diEten=N,N-diethylethylenediamine; N,N-diMeen=N,N- dimethyl-ethylenediamine and N,N'-diMeen = N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine), were prepared, characterized and their thermal behavior was investigated by TG curves. According to thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction patterns all compounds decomposed giving copper(II) oxide as final product. The mechanisms of decomposition were proposed and an order of thermal stability was established.

The structure of the two azide-complexes, [Cu(N-3)(2)(N,N-diEten)](2) and [Cu(N-3)(2)(tmeen)](2), N,N-diEten=N,N-diethylethylenediamine; tmeen=N,N,N',N'-tetramethyethylenediamine in solutions of acetonitrile, acetone, tetrahydrofuran, chloroform and dichloromethane, were investigated by infrared spectroscopy. The data show that the complex [Cu(N-3)(2)(N,N-diEten)](2) mantains its structure in solution, while that for [Cu(N-3)(2)(tmeen)](2) is modified.

The chemical fractionation and bioleaching of Mn, At, Zn, Cu and Ti in municipal sewage sludge were investigated using Thiobacillus ferrooxidans as leaching microorganism. As a result of the bacterial activity, ORP increase and pH reduction were observed. Metal solubilization was accomplished only in experimental systems supplemented with energy source (Fe(II)). The solubilization efficiency approached similar to80% for Mn and Zn, 24% for Cu, 10% for At and 0.2% for Ti. The chemical fractionation of Mn, At, Zn, Cu and Ti was investigated using a five-step sequential extraction procedure employing KNO3. KF, Na4P2O7, EDTA and HNO3. The results show that the bioleaching process affected the partitioning of Mn and Zn, increasing its percentage of elution in the KNO3 fraction while reducing it in the KF, Na4P2O7 and EDTA fractions. No significant effect was detected on the partitioning of Cu and Al. However, quantitatively the metals Mn, Zn, Cu and At were extracted with higher efficiency after the bacterial activity. Titanium was unaffected by the bioleaching process in both qualitative and quantitative aspects. (C) 2002 Elsevier B.V. Ltd. All rights reserved.

Synthesis, characterization and thermal behavior of four compounds that have the general formula [Cu{Pd(CN)(4)}(L)(x)](n), in which en = 1,2-diaminoethane and pn = 1,3-diaminopropane (L = en, x = 1 (I); L = pn, x = 1 (II); L = en, x = 2 (III); L = pn, x = 2 (IV)) were described in this work. The complexes were studied by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy (IR), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetry (TG) and the residues of the thermal decomposition were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and found as a mixture of CuO and PdO. The stoichiometry of the compounds was established via thermogravimetric and elemental analyses and their structures were proposed as coordination polymers based on their infrared spectra. The following thermal stability sequence was found: IV < I=II < III.

The reaction of Cu(NO3)(2).3H(2)O with 1,3-propanediamine (pn), in the presence of NaN3, afforded a 1:1 co-crystal formed by [Cu(NO3)(2)(pn)(2)] and [Cu(N-3)(NO3)(pn)(2)] (1 and 2), which were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In both compounds, the copper(II) centers are in a distorted octahedral environment, formed by four N atoms of two bidentate pn ligands in the basal plane, whereas the axial bonds are formed by two O atoms from the nitrate ligands in 1 and one O atom from the nitrate ligand and one N atom from the azide ion in 2. The asymmetric unit of the crystal consists of two crystallographically independent 1 and 2 complexes, which are held together in a 3D network by a series of N - H center dot center dot center dot O and N - H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds, as well C - H center dot center dot center dot O interactions. New supramolecular synthons are identified by the occurrence of two geometrically distinct molecular recognition patterns involving the NO3- ion and amino groups from pn ligands.

The new complex [Cu(NCS)(2)(pn)] (1) (pn = 1,3-propanediamine) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and electronic spectroscopy. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that complex 1 is made up of neutral [Cu(NCS)(2)(pn)] units which are connected by mu-1,3,3-thiocyanato groups to yield a 2D metal-organic framework with a brick-wall network topology. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds of the type NH...SCN and NH...NCS are also responsible for the stabilization of the crystal structure. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The molar single ion activity coefficients associated with hydrogen, copper(II), cadmium(II) and lead(II) ions were determined at 25 degrees C and ionic strengths between 0.100 and 3.00 M (NaClO4), whereas for acetate the ionic strengths were fixed between 0.300 and 2.00 M, held with the same inert electrolyte. The investigation was carried out potentiometrically by using proton-sensitive glass, copper, cadmium and lead ion-selective electrodes and a second-class Hg\Hg-2(CH3COO)(2) electrode. It was found that the activity coefficients of these ions (y(i)) can be assessed through the following empirical equations:log y(H) = -0.542I(0.5) + 0.451I; log y(Cu) = -1.249I(0.5) + 0.912I; log y(Cd) = -0.829I(0.5) + 0.448I(1.5);log y(Pb) = -0.404I(0.5) + 0.117I(2); and log y(Ac) = 0.0370I .

The 1:1 mixed-ligand [{Cu(N3)2(diEten)}2] (diEten=N,N-diethylethylenediamine) complex has been synthesized and characterized by i.r. spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1. Its structure consists of a centrosymmetric Cu2N2 unit whose N atoms belong to end-on azido bridges. Each copper atom is also surrounded by three nitrogen atoms; two from one N, N-diethylethylenediamine, and one from the remaining azide. The five nitrogen atoms altogether occupy the vertices of a slightly distorted trigonal bipyramid, and the azidobridges produced a rather short Cu...Cu distance of 3.37 Å. © 1989 Chapman and Hall Ltd.

The preparation and characterization of (Ph3AsOH)2[CuBr4] and [Cu(Ph3AsO)4][CuBr4] are reported (Ph3AsO = triphenylarsine oxide). Crystallographic analysis of the monoclinic crystals of (Ph3AsOH)2[CuBr4] (space group C2/c, a = 17.569 (3) Å, b = 13.090 (2) Å, c = 16.933 (2) Å, and β = 105.64 (2)°, R = 0.055 and Rw = 0.057) revealed the presence of compressed [CuBr4]2- tetrahedra of C2 symmetry with Cu-Br distances of 2.340 (1) and 2.437 (1) Å and trans-Br-Cu-Br angles of 139.2 (1) and 122.4 (1)°. The oxonium cations hydrogen bond to the bromine atoms involved in the longer Cu-Br bonds and the smaller trans-Br-Cu-Br angle. Single-crystal electronic and EPR spectra are interpreted in terms of the observed [CuBr4]2- geometry. Analysis of the electronic and EPR spectra of [Cu(Ph3AsO)4][CuBr4] led to the postulation of the presence of planar [Cu(Ph3AsO)4]2+ cations and distorted tetrahedral [CuBr4]2- anions. © 1992 American Chemical Society.

The complexes: [Cu(N 3) 2(N,N-diEten)] 2, [Cu(N 3) 2(tmeen)] 2, [Cu(N 3)(NCO)(N,N-diEten)] 2, [Cu(N 3) 2(N,N′-diMeen)] 2 and [Cu(N 3)(NCO)(tmeen)] 2 were prepared, characterized and their electrochemical behavior was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential electrolysis. Cyclic voltammograms for all complexes studied are similar and exhibit one pair of current peaks in the range of -0.65 to +0.0 V. The number of electrons obtained from controlled potential electrolysis at ca. -0.55 V for all compounds was 1.8 ≤ n ≤ 2.1, indicating that both copper(II) metallic centres in the molecule were reduced to copper (I). Comparing the peak potential values for these complexes one can observe that the redox process corresponding to copper(II)/copper(I) couple is slightly influenced by the σ-basicity of the ligands. © 1997 Soc.
