Techniques of image combination, with extraction of objects to set a final scene, are very used in applications from photos montages to cinematographic productions. These techniques are called digital matting. With them is possible to decrease the cost of productions, because it is not necessary for the actor to be filmed in the location where the final scene occurs. This feature also favors its use in programs made to digital television, which demands a high quality image. Many digital matting algorithms use markings done on the images, to demarcate what is the foreground, the background and the uncertainty areas. This marking is called trimap, which is a triple map containing these three informations. The trimap is done, typically, from manual markings. In this project, methods were created that can be used in digital matting algorithms, with restriction of time and without human interaction, that is, the creation of an algorithm that generates the trimap automatically. This last one can be generated from the difference between a color of an arbitrary background and the foreground, or by using a depth map. It was also created a matting method, based on the Geodesic Matting (BAI; SAPIRO, 2009), which has an inferior processing time then the original one. Aiming to improve the performance of the applications that generates the trimap and of the algorithms that generates the alphamap (map that associates a value to the transparency of each pixel of the image), allowing its use in applications with time restrictions, it was used the CUDA architecture. Smart grids are the focus of major study today because of the necessity of modernization in electrical systems and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that increases global warming. Reaching the best deployment method, you must first of all know the current electrical system and how to use them for the benefit of this new technology. Preparing the action plan we should be aware of the main points of smart grids in each step of the electricity system - generation, transmission and distribution. Analyzed these topics, this work will focus on the first step in the implementation of the smart grids: the smart meters, tool which is already being implemented in Brazil. The main characteristics and applications of these devices, as well as their communication structure with the core distributors will be showed during the paper. Finally, we present a case study which will be discussed and analyzed based in the results obtained with the implementation of smart meters in the city of Vancouver, Canada, where we have a considerable savings already in the first year, with fully paying the initial investment and still have a profit

This work of completion is inserted at the interface between violence and school, and how you want to portray violence in school is represented in film productions. We consider important to first discuss in depth the concepts of violence to better understand the phenomenon of school violence, which is a subject much discussed in recent times. One of the types of violence very often nowadays, taking forms that we can call as new, in primary education schools, as well as in society in general, is known as bullying, for some authors the concept is very close to the definition of prejudice in with respect to social factors that reflect the target groups of this type of violence. Other authors also research on the expansion of the recent phenomenon known as School Shooting, which means school shootings, very common in American schools. Our study builds on ideas Debarbieux and Blaya (2002) that treat violence more broadly, taking into account the reports of the victims, including symbolic violence, the institutional and physical. For them, every concept must take into consideration how it was socially constructed, to thereafter be searched. Our goal is to analyze and understand how the issue of school violence is treated theoretically and also as is portrayed through the lens of cinema. Our study is theoretically based on authors like Debarbieux, Blaya, Bourdieu, Charlot, Arendt, Foucault, Sposito, among others, and use the qualitative approach, working with content analysis of films

The development in recent years of different media formats has boosted the consumption of narratives, generating a ‘narrative hunger’. Audiences have increasingly looked forward to absorb new and old narratives, and ‘adaptation’ has become a key operational concept to describe processes involved in the transformation of texts. Thus, our discussion will be centered around a few theoretical propositions on adaptation and appropriation in various textual architectures. Although relevant to the debate, literary canonical texts will not be the primary focus. Non-canonical texts will be used to re-visit concepts such as narrativization, intertextuality and transmediality and also to elaborate some ideas on interactivity and multimedia crossover.

Conceiving of cinematographic adaptations as being independent of their source material has come to be the standard approach for most specialists in this area. The stress on fidelity has made way for many other approaches, such as those focused on intertextuality, on the dilemma of form v. content, or on questions of genre and gender. The objective of this article is to present an overview of the principal theories which have been developed in the area as from 2000 in order to support this notion of independence, which will be exemplified by an exposition of the strategies used to adapt the metafictional and metanarrative elements in Atonement (2001) for the cinema.

Esta coletânea traz 14 estudos apresentados durante dois encontros acadêmicos realizados na Faculdade de Ciências e Letras da Unesp, em Araraquara, em 2011. Os artigos, produzidos por especialistas de diversas áreas, tiveram como foco principal, o tema proposto para os eventos: as confluências entre teatro, cinema e literatura. Na primeira parte do livro, os estudos têm por denominador comum as relações entre peças de teatro, obras cinematográficas e textos literários. Entre os artigos, há uma análise comparativa das características literárias-políticas do alemão Bertold Brecht, a partir de duas de suas peças, e de um filme, de cujo roteiro foi autor, além de uma reflexão sobre o peta e romancista francês Jules Romains, com foco naquilo que o poeta tomou de empréstimo à arte do cinematógrafo, e um texto sobre a técnica cinematográfica do close-up no filme Vagas estrelas da Ursa, de Luchino Visconti, que tem a personagem principal baseada em Electra. “Ato II – Peças, pessoas, personagens”, a segunda parte do livro, tem seu foco no teatro. Entre os artigos, estão uma análise de duas coletâneas de ensaios do crítico teatral Décio de Almeida Prado, um estudo sobre a peça Esperando Godot, de Samuel Beckett, que aborda uma estética do absurdo, modernamente trágica, uma representação critica da ideologia norte-americana em peças de Tennessee Wiliams e uma discussão sobre a religiosidade católica na peça A Revolução dos Beatos, de Dias Gomes.

In the early 1960s, after his experience as a film critic in the Jornal da Bahia, the young Glauber Rocha began his collaboration in the Suplemento Artes e Letras of Diário de Notícias in Salvador. Inserting itself the symbolic disputes in defense of a film art of authentic Brazilian nuance, the activity of the critic Glauber Rocha represents a voice that demarcates the internal tensions of the field of cinema in Bahia and outlines, in the form of genesis, his most famous manifesto, “An esthetic of hunger” (1965). For this analysis were focused mainly two critics: “Experiência ‘Barravento’: confissão sem moldura”, published December 25-26, 1960, and “Luz Atlântica, 1962”, published in December 31, 1961.
