The Brazilian insurance market is the ambience in which this research study takes place in search for a better understanding of how cultural characteristics are related with organizational signs, practices and expectations on social responsibility. The concepts of social responsibility as well as the concept of culture are presented and discussed from different points of view, in accordance with different authors and trough several methodological approaches, in order to establish a coherent theoretical basis for qualitative data analysis. The phenomenological attitude assumed by the researcher in especial dialogues situations during the field research phase added new possibilities of apprehension or emergence of each studied organization self orientation in terms of pre-occupation with social issues intimately related with their insurance activities in the market place. Final reflections show the complexity of the insurance cultural context in the studied Brazilian segment, in which cultural and subcultural national and organizational singularities appear. However leaving space for common values and coherent orientation toward the peculiar understanding of social responsibility as inherent to any insurance company activities, themselves. Last comments point out that future research studies may give additional contribution for the continuity of the discussions initiated in this dissertation, expecting that some changes in the organizational posture and practices may happen, especially those related with risk taking and broad processes of communication with clients and society as a whole.

o propósito deste estudo é o de analisar criticamente o serviço de hotelaria em relação à formação e às habilidades dos profissionais da área, especialmente gerentes e empregados da linha de frente, para atender a expectativas presentes e futuras de clientes multiculturais, visando à competitividade. Uma breve retrospectiva histórica situa a experiência brasileira nesse servIço em expansão e sofisticação crescentes no país e no mundo globalizado e apresenta as características de cada unidade hoteleira estudada. No cenário de hotelaria, comunicação e idiomas são fatores centrais, gerando impactos recíprocos entre os envolvidos. O estudo identifica propostas e iniciativas de treinamento dessa natureza entre os gerentes entrevistados e avalia as possibilidades para competência intercultural. Uma visitação a autores estudiosos em cultura, cultura brasileira, cultura organizacional, comunicação organizacional, linguagem, idiomas e diferenças culturais no gerenciamento compôs o referencial teórico. A metodologia empregada foi primordialmente qualitativa, buscando percepções dos gerentes e suas implicações para a gestão das diferenças culturais. Essa foi complementada com uma análise de dados quantitativos, com o objetivo de dar maior consistência à leitura da realidade multicultural da hotelaria. Diante de indícios de atenção ao fator cultura para competitividade, as conclusões apontaram para a necessidade de melhorar o entendimento conceitual de cultura, sistematizar e ampliar conteúdos de treinamento multicultural, incluir a linha de frente mais ampla e freqüentemente nesses programas, cobrindo idiomas.

This work intends to study the relationship between Brazilian Internal Public Debt mix and Mutual Funds. In the theoretical framework, the discussion about liquidity preference theories implies considering risk averse investors. Portfolio selection is also discussed, particularly Markowitz efficient frontier. Historical data from November of 1999 to December of 2004 of Brazilian Internal Public Debt mix and Mutual Funds portfolio are analyzed. Official goals concerning Public Debt's mix and its actual composition are presented, as well as Mutual Fund preferences as buyers of public debt securities. Time series of three securities (LFT, LTN and NTN-C) in Public Debt mix and Mutual Funds portfolio are compared and a similar behavior is identified. Relevant facts of the macroeconomic context which may have affected Public Debt or Mutual Funds are discussed. Some indications of a possible influence of Mutual Funds upon Public Debt Mix are obtained and hypothesis to be tested in future studies are proposed.

In Brazil, the supplemental healthcare system is going through a transition period from the traditional Fee-for-service reimbursement system to the Package reimbursement system, similar to the American model known as the Diagnoses Related Groups (DRG) system. Although the Package concept is nothing new to the hospital environment, it is still seldom used since this system calls for a level of control and analytical knowledge of hospital costs that are poorly developed in Brazilian institutions. This study focuses on determining how much the reimbursement for a Myocardial Revascularization Package actually covers of the current costs for patients submitted to this procedure. A prospective analysis method for determining the cost per patient has been developed and 13 patients were individually followed-up during all their hospitalization period. The expenses with intensive care unit and in-patient clinical care, as well as the type of admittance - whether elective or emergency - were determined for each patient. Additionally, all the resources and materials for the surgical procedure were included, comprising specialized personnel, surgical fees, procedures and tests, biomedical equipment, and all the materials and medication used during the hospital stay. Based on this data, the current total costs were calculated and compared to the reimbursement for the Package previously agreed upon by the institution and the healthcare carriers. The study found an average cost of BR$ 8,826 for a Myocardial Revascularization surgical procedure, while the respective reimbursement for the Package is of BR$ 7,476. Therefore, the reimbursement does not cover the current costs of the procedure.

Having as basic purpose, that the work motivational strategies are more efficient when elaborated directly from the worker¿s personal goals and values, the study line of this dissertation searched to identify the worker¿s motivational employee¿s profile from call center industry. The knowledge of this motivational profile makes possible the development of differentiated programs of motivation inside the organization, aiming to attend goals of diverse groups of workers. In order to achieve the considered objective, the present dissertation analyzed one of the biggest companies in call center¿s inside Brazilian market, the BrasilCenter Communications Ltda. In such a way, in the first stage of the study, a bibliographical research was carried out, with the objective to collect contributions from diverse authors on the motivation subject, and also a modern theory of values was presented, verified empirically in more than 60 countries, which identifies the people¿s motivational structure. Having as base the results of these studies, the worker¿s concept profile motivational and argued its way of evaluation in the organizations it was boarded. In the second stage, a field research was carried out, with the application of the Inventory of Values of Schwartz theory (IVS), in order to identify the employee¿s motivational profile crowded in the Center of Attendance and Services (call center) company, located in Juiz de Fora city. The analysis of the results from the field research, based on the bibliographical data, identified that the values prioritized for the call center¿s employees are the ones that serves the collective and mixing goals. This motivational profile offers some perspectives of employee¿s valuation that correspond to their goals and interests. The displayed results point respect to the centrality of the types of values benevolence, conformity, security and universalism among the participants in the sample. As the accented was more among the employees it was the search of collective results it, is concluded that the more appropriate valuation strategies are those related to the tolerance for the ideas and opinion of the others, to harmonic a organizational enviroment, the concern with the quality of life at work and the social aspects of the work.

A gestão pela qualidade total-TQM é um modelo amplamente utilizado por diversas organizações em todos os setores, seja ele público, privado ou não -governamental. No Brasil, o Ministério da Saúde criou e incentiva todos os hospitais a participarem do programa de acreditação, prova cabal de que o TQM é um modelo que merece ser implementado nas unidade de saúde.

The objective of this study is to analyze the effect that a brand extension strategy has on the brand image. The present study is analyzed on the Brazilian context, with a sample of 192 consumers and with two different product categories. It is an extension on the article of Martinez e Chernatony (2004). Through a linear regression analysis, it is identified a brand image¿s dilution effect after the extension. The characteristics of the perceived quality, the attitude and the familiarity had a positive effect over the brand after the extension; the similarity had a positive effect only at the brand¿s image. In a complementary way to the original paper, the effects of the interest for the original category are also analyzed and result in a dilution effect after the extension.

This paper intends to propose a study to evaluate and analyse the influence of tax education in the behavior of young inhabitants of the Espirito Santo State living in the cities of Muniz Freire and São Mateus. The context of the problem under investigation consists in the context of a frequent conflict between consumers, the state and companies. These conflicts arise because the state does not provide sufficient and adequate services that lie under its responsability. Due to this fact, companies often conclude that it is not worthwhile to pay state taxes, and the consumer has great trouble when trying to obtain the rights they are entitled to from the companies and from the state. Therefore, the intermediate aims of this paper were to research behavior related to the moment of purchase and the reception of a bill of sale, especifically, if mechanisms of pressure, involvement and personal commitment, exert any influence over the consumers request for a tax receipt. The methodology to reach these objectives was a field survey through questionnaires. The final results show that through the tax education the students are assimilating the importance of the taxes.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the productive reorganizations occurred at Companhia Siderúrgica de Tubarão (located in the State of Espirito Santo, Brazil), during the 90¿s, regarding the professional qualification of its work force.The purpose is to describe and to explain the process of changes effected in the productive structure of the company and its connections with the changes that took place in the siderurgy in general. It is against the context of the deep changes - technological, managerial, of productive processes, in logistics, etc. occurred in the last decade that the problems of professional qualification of CST's work force are focused. To explore it, the supported hypothesis is that the productive reorganizations CST passed during the 90's had imposed the need of a broader qualification of its work force, in terms of formal education (upper, average, basic level), and in terms of technical abilities required by the production.The research development is anchored in a methodology that combines the following methods: bibliographical, documental and fieldwork, with a qualitative approach, in the scope of case study.

We have never talked so much about Human Capital and how important is to invest in development and training in the enterprises. We also have never seen so much merger and acquisions among foreign and Brazilian enterprise, in all the business areas. In consequence of this, was never so important to review the Training Professional role in that structure. The aim of this dissertation is to evaluate the educator role of Training Professional within enterprises as responsible for the Human Capital training in the process of technological, economic and social changes and also to wake up that Professionals about need of their own training need in order to reach the best didactical and technical qualification, otherwise they will not have success in their job. In the same purpose we will approach how the workers of community knowledge have to apply in this process change and how the entrepreneurs must to manage the Human Been development in order to keep their enterprises profitable. We will use the bibliographical reference to understand the Human Capital in the knowledge community. We will analyze the Pedagogical Prevailing (TRADITIONAL, NEW, TECHNIQUE, LIBERATOR) which has been applied in the enterprise¿s training as support to research showed in this job. At last, we will propose the application of PDCA (PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACTION) studied by Vicente Falconi Campos, as an evaluation instrument of Education and Training Program

o objetivo principal deste estudo de caso, está centrado na busca da identificação das influências que exercem as restrições orçamentárias no planejamento estratégico da CVM. Através deste trabalho tentaremos identificar a relação entre os planejamentos feitos pela instituição e a sua operacionalização. Consequentemente, os desafios que a instituição enfrentou, buscando alcançar seus objetivos e cumprir sua missão, tendo como pano de fundo, a relação entre o planejamento e os escassos recursos orçamentários. Consideramos que as referências bibliográficas utilizadas, são suficientes para suportar as análises e o entendimento do estudo. Analisaremos os planejamentos efetuados juntamente com os orçamentos propostos e autorizados, num período fragmentado, ano após ano. Tal fragmentação não prejudicará a visualização de continuidade das ações que foram implementadas ao longo do tempo. Tão importante quanto o estudo acima mencionado, será evidenciar detalhadamente a importância do papel do Estado, promovendo o desenvolvimento do mercado, através de suas ações, em uma política de regulação voltada para o cliente cidadão.

A presente dissertação trata do trabalho voluntário e da atuação das instituições privadas sem fins lucrativos que atendem pessoas portadoras de necessidades especiais. A questão central deste estudo é a investigação a respeito do impacto do trabalho voluntário na atuação das mencionadas instituições, e seu objetivo final é a avaliação deste impacto. O estudo tem como objetivos secundários o levantamento de informações sobre as motivações do trabalhador voluntário e a identificação dos significados atribuídos ao trabalho voluntário. Adotou-se a pesquisa do tipo estudo de caso com tratamento qualitativo e quantitativo dos dados obtidos. A aplicação de questionários junto aos familiares e voluntários da Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais (APAE-Rio) revelou aspectos importantes para a pesquisa e fomentou o estudo de assuntos vinculados ao voluntariado trazidos pelos próprios entrevistados, tais como o amor, a solidariedade e a cidadania. Questões próprias do voluntariado e do Terceiro Setor também são abordadas, juntamente com as principais correntes de pensamento no campo da ética, com o intuito de embasar as conclusões do estudo. Os resultados apontam para um impacto positivo do trabalho voluntário na atuação das instituições privadas sem fins lucrativos que atendem pessoas portadoras de necessidades eSpeCiaIS. O presente trabalho pretende apresentar uma comparação crítica entre o novo modelo de Planejamento, Orçamento e Gestão, adotado pelo Governo Federal na formulação do Plano Plurianual (PPA) 2000-2003, e as bases conceitual, metodológica e organizacional do Planejamento Estratégico Situacional (PES), proposto pelo Prof. Dr. Carlos Matus. Os fundamentos de tal comparação encontram-se na constatação de que o processo de elaboração e gestão do PPA foi, e está sendo, marcado pelo Determinismo Inconsciente dos planejadores públicos, o que Matus denominou de "Procustomania", ou seja, a capacidade de amputar a realidade, concebendo o planejamento de forma autoritária e propenso a ignorar tudo quanto escape às suas capacidades de controle e predição. A análise focou a elaboração e gestão do PPA 2000-2003 no âmbito do Ministério da Justiça, no período de dezembro de 1998 e outubro de 2002, destacando a experiência de aplicação parcial do PES no processo de elaboração dos Programas daquela Pasta no PPA.

The wellness, physical activity and health club market is in great expansion and grownth in the national and worldwide cenarium. In a growing competitive environment, the prediction of of consumer preferences over a product, for its innumerous attributes, is a critical aspect for any marketing administration. Determining customer perception of value in the form of utilities can provide the marketing administration of a company with a functional tool to evaluate the usefulness of a product or service. This thesis investigates the motivational attributes of decision making process when choosing a health club / gym center service. Data was collected through a web survey with 376 participants from Rio de Janeiro and Distrito Federal. The data was analysed through the conjoint analysis method. Results demonstrated that the relative values of the attribute regarding ¿gym facilities¿ and ¿attendance¿ obtained greater values than the other tested attributes. The ¿price¿ attribute was the third degree in the scale of value, followed by ¿proximity¿ and ¿indication¿.
