Professional learning through narratives of practice

Narratives of practice are a primary means by which educators understand their work, shaping the identities and practices of those who engage with them. Written narratives are examined as a resource for professional learning in three contexts: a writing group for adult educators, a national professional development initiative and a teacher appraisal program.

Teacher narratives and curricular justice : a study of teachers' work in the disadvantaged schools' program in Victorian education

Investigates teacher contributions to conversations about theory, policy and practice concerning poverty and education. The research examines patterns in teacher interpretive categories drawn from action research texts and associated documentation in the Disadvantaged School Program in Victoria over a twenty year period. Deals theoretically with the sociology of curricular theory, history and practice through the utilisation of feminist, postcolonial and poststructural approaches to society and culture.

Red shoes : obsessive and contagious narratives

The fairytale motif of the red shoes continues to fascinate many contemporary authors and artists. What inspires these obsessive and contagious narratives? The raw, unfettered femaleness of the red shoes, reminiscent of the pre-oedipal realm, suggests a means of escaping confining patriarchal conceptions of woman, desire and creativity.

Leadership narratives : women leaders in independent schools, Victoria 2004-2008

This thesis investigates the professional work narratives of twelve women Junior Heads and the influence of dominant leadership discourses on shaping leadership identities. Leadership narratives reveal how power and agency are negotiated through discourses of paradox, idealism and dissent. These discourses were used by the women as positioning strategies to discursively navigate ambiguity and contradiction arising from the micro-politics of power relationships and gendered discourses within their situated practice.

The illusory everyday : narratives of pleasure in Australian 'reality TV'

This thesis examines the paradox thai the popularity of 'reality TV' lies more in its construction and the pleasure of its reception as entertainment, than ils 'reality'. Through the integration of theoretical perspectives, and industry and viewer interviews, 'reality TV' is explored as an amoebic, amorphous genre, of multiple narratives, interpretations and pleasures.
