Työssä tutkittiin Andritz-Ahlstrom toimittamien soodakattiloiden lämmönsiirtoa ANITA 2.20- suunnitteluohjelmalla feedback- laskentaa apuna käyttäen. Data laskentaan saatiin kattiloiden takuukokeissa mitatuista arvoista. Mittaukset on suoritettiin Andritz-Ahlstromin henkilökunnan toimesta tehdashenkilökunnan avustuksella. Feedback -laskenta tapahtui mittaustulosten perusteella, joten tiettyä virhettä luonnollisesti esiintyi. Aluksi laskettiin taseet molempien ekojen yli erikseen sekä molemmat yhdessä Excel-taulukkolaskentaohjelmalla. Täältä saatiin oletettu savukaasuvirtaus kattilassa. Tämän jälkeen lämpöpintoja muokattiin todellisuutta vastaaviksi yleislikaisuuskerrointa muuttamalla (overall fouling factor). Kertoimet ovat liikkuivat noin 0.4 ja 1.6 välillä riipuen kattilan tyypistä ja ANITAn oletuksesta lämpöpintojen likaisuudelle. Havaittin että yhtä varsinaista syytä lämpöpintojen eroavaisuuteen oletetusta ei saatu. Syitä toiminnan poikkeamiseen oli monia. Mm. etukammion koolla havaittiin olevan suurtakin vaikutusta tulistimien, etenkin savukaasuvirrassa ensimmäisen tulistimen toimintaan. Yleisesti todettiin muiden tulistimien vastaavan oletettua toimintaa. Keittopinnan ja ekonomiserien toimintaa tutkittiin hivenen suppeammin ja havaittiin niiden toimivan huomattavasti stabiilimmin kuin tulistimien. Likaisuus kertoimet oletetusta vaihtelivat noin ±20 %.

Työn tavoitteena oli tutkia vaikuttaako puupolttoaineen lisääminen turpeen joukkoon leijukerroskattilan hiukkaspäästöihin tai sähkösuodattimen erotusasteeseen. Työn teoriaosassa selvitettiin hiukkaspäästöjen muodostumista leijukerrospoltossa ja vertailtiin eri polttotekniikoiden hiukkaspäästöjä. Lisäksi esiteltiin erilaisia hiukkasten erottamiseen soveltuvia erotuslaitteita. Tarkastelussa keskityttiin sähkösuodattimeen, joka on yleisin hiukkasten erottamiseen käytettävä erotuslaite. Työn kokeellinen osa suoritettiin turvetta ja puuta polttavalla kuplivalla leijukerroskattilalla. Kokeellisessa osassa tutkittiin vaikuttaako puun lisäys syntyvien hiukkasten kokojakaumiin, sähkösuodattimen jälkeiseen kokonaishiukkaspäästöön tai sähkösuodattimen erotusasteeseen. Kokeet suoritettiin sekä pelkkänä turpeenpolttona (2 koetta), että kahdella eri puu/turve-polttoainesuhteella. Kokojakaumamittaukset suoritettiin lisäksi kahdella eri menetelmällä. Kokojakaumamittausten perusteella todettiin puun lisäyksen kasvattavan pienhiukkasten muodostumista. Pienhiukkasten osuus kasvoi sekapolton myötä myös sähkösuodattimen jälkeen. Sekapoltolla ei sen sijaan ollut selvää vaikutusta kokonaishiukkaspäästöön tai sähkösuodattimen erotusasteeseen.

Tämän työn tarkoituksena oli löytää keinoja erään leijukerroskattilan typenoksidipäästöjen vähentämiseksi. Koska päästöt olivat jo alunperin alhaiset leijukerrostekniikan ja hybridin SNCR/SCR –typenpoistolaitteiston ansiosta, päätettiin päästöjä lähteä vähentämään parantamalla ammoniakkiruiskutuksen säätöä. Alkuperäinen ammoniakkiruiskutuksen säätö oli liian hidas, jotta satunnaisten häiriöiden aiheuttamat typenoksidipiikit olisi pystytty poistamaan. Ammoniakkiruiskutusta parannettiin lisäämällä jokaiseen ammoniakkilinjaan mäntäpumput, joiden avulla ammoniakkia voidaan syöttää sinne, missä sitä eniten tarvitaan. Ammoniakkiruiskutuksen säätöön kehitettiin uusi sumeaan logiikkaan perustuva säätäjä. Myös muita kehittyneitä säätömenetelmiä kuten neuroverkkoa hyödynnettiin säätäjän kehityksessä. Ammoniakkiruiskutuksen säätäjää testattiin menestyksekkäästi Ruotsissa Brista Kraftin Märstassa sijaitsevalla voimalaitoksella

Työn tavoite oli kehittää karakterisointimenetelmät kalkkikiven ja polttoaineen tuhkan jauhautumisen ennustamiselle kiertoleijukattilan tulipesässä. Kiintoainekäyttäytymisen karakterisoinnilla ja mallintamisella voidaan tarkentaa tulipesän lämmönsiirron ja tuhkajaon ennustamista. Osittain kokeelliset karakterisointimenetelmät perustuvat kalkkikiven jauhautumiseen laboratoriokokoluokan leijutetussa kvartsiputkireaktorissa ja tuhkan jauhatumiseen rotaatiomyllyssä. Karakterisointimenetelmät ottavat huomioon eri-laiset toimintaolosuhteet kaupallisen kokoluokan kiertoleijukattiloissa. Menetelmät kelpoistettiin kaupallisen kokoluokan kiertoleijukattiloista mitattujen ja fraktioittaisella kiintoainemallilla mallinnettujen taseiden avulla. Kelpoistamistaseiden vähäisyydestä huolimatta karakterisointimenetelmät arvioitiin virhetarkastelujen perusteella järkeviksi. Karakterisointimenetelmien kehittämistä ja tarkentamista tullaan jatkamaan.

Better models are needed for radiative heat transfer in boiler furnaces. If the process is known better, combustion in the furnace can be optimized to produce low emissions. It makes the process to be environmental friendly. Furthermore, if there is a better model of the furnace it can more fully explain what is happening inside the furnace. Using of the model one can quickly and easily analyze how it operates with bio fuels, moist fuels or difficult fuels and improve the operation. Models helps with better estimation of furnace dimensions and result in more accurate understanding of operation. Key component lacking in these models is radiative heat transfer in particle laden gases. If there are no particles than radiative heat transfer can be calculated approximately. There are two problems with current models when used with flow modeling. The first one is a need to account for a particle laden gas and the second one is an absence of a fast algorithm. Fast calculation is needed if radiative heat transfer calculation is done for a large CDF model. Computations slow down if time is required for calculating radiative properties over and over again. This thesis presents a band model for radiative heat transfer in boiler furnaces. Advantage is a quickness of calculation and account of particles in the process.

A model to solve heat and mass balances during the offdesign load calculations was created. These equations are complex and nonlinear. The main new ideas used in the created offdesign model of a kraft recovery boiler are the use of heat flows as torn iteration variables instead of the current practice of using the mass flows, vectorizing equation solving, thus speeding up the process, using non dimensional variables for solving the multiple heat transfer surface problem and using a new procedure for calculating pressure losses. Recovery boiler heat and mass balances are reduced to vector form. It is shown that these vectorized equations can be solved virtually without iteration. The iteration speed is enhanced by the use of the derived method of calculating multiple heat transfer surfaces simultaneously. To achieve this quick convergence the heat flows were used as the torn iteration parameters. A new method to handle pressure loss calculations with linearization was presented. This method enabled less time to be spent calculating pressure losses. The derived vector representation of the steam generator was used to calculate offdesign operation parameters for a 3000 tds/d example recovery boiler. The model was used to study recovery boiler part load operation and the effect of the black liquor dry solids increase on recovery boiler dimensioning. Heat flows to surface elements for part load calculations can be closely approximated with a previously defined exponent function. The exponential method can be used for the prediction of fouling in kraft recovery boilers. For similar furnaces the firing of 80 % dry solids liquor produces lower hearth heat release rate than the 65 % dry solids liquor if we fire at constant steam flow. The furnace outlet temperatures show that capacity increase with firing rate increase produces higher loadings than capacity increase with dry solids increase. The economizers, boiler banks and furnaces can be dimensioned smaller if we increase the black liquor dry solids content. The main problem with increased black liquor dry solids content is the decrease in the heat available to superheat. Whenever possible the furnace exit temperature should be increased by decreasing the furnace height. The increase in the furnace exit temperature is usually opposed because of fear of increased corrosion.

It is often reasonable to convert old boiler to bubbling fluidized bed boiler instead of building a new one. Converted boiler consists of old and new heat surfaces which must be fitted to operate together. Prediction of heat transfer in not so ideal conditions sets challenges for designers. Two converted boilers situated in Poland were studied on the grounds of acceptance tests and further studies. Calculation of boiler process was performed with boiler design program. Main interest was heat transfer in superheaters and factors affecting it. Theory for heat transfer is presented according to information found from literature. Results obtained from experimental studies and calculations have been compared. With correct definitions calculated parameters corresponded well to measured data at boiler maximum design load. However overload situations revealed to be difficult to model at least without considering changes in the combustion process which requires readjustments to the design program input values.

Engineering and pricing of large recovery boiler were studied in this work. Engineering was carried out with Anita 4.2 which is an engineering program of Andritz. Key initial values were chosen with previous studies. Primary target of this work was to find out the consequences that furnace dimensions and furnace screen vertical part has to boiler pricing. Boilers that were engineered had different rate of furnace width and depth and different heat transfer plate count. Boiler balances were invariable. Boilers with different vertical screen construction were also calculated. First variation was boiler with vertical screen up to furnace roof. Other variation was to connect vertical screen to Pre-boiler generating bank inlet tubes. Total prices were calculated to engineered boilers. Pricing was sort out to heat transfers, high pressure pipes, steel structures, auxiliary equipments and civil/structural costs. This study did not notice parts of the boiler which costs do not vary with the construction of the boiler. Heat transfers had the largest share of costs. Boiler building had the most significant differences between the boilers. Furnace screen had also significant role especially to costs of the boiler building.

The aim of this work is to study the effect of different fuel mixtures on the operation of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler. The applicability of heat balance modeling software IPSEpro to simulate CFB boiler operation is also investigated. The work discusses various types of boilers and methods of boiler operation. The fuel properties and the possible fuel influence on the boiler efficiency are described. Various biofuel types that are possible to use in combination with other fuels are presented. Some examples of the fuel mixtures use are given. A CFB boiler model has been constructed using IPSEpro and applied to analyze boiler operation outside design conditions. In the simulations, the effect of different load levels and moisture contents for the fuel mixture has been studied.

The movement of the working fluid is appears due to occurrence of the natural pressure, determined by the difference in hydrostatic pressure and the mass of water and water-and-steam mixtures in downcomer and riser tubes and called the driving pressure of the natural circulation: S drive = H steam (ρ down + ρ mix) g where: ρ down - density of water in downcomer tubes; ρ mix - density of water in riser tubes; H steam - height of steam content section; g - acceleration of gravity. In steam boilers with natural circulation the circulation rate is usually between 10 and 30. Thus, consumption of water in the circulation circuit “circulation rate times” more than steam output of the boiler. There are two aspects of the design of natural water circulation loops. One is to ensure a sufficient mass flux of circulating water to avoid burnout of evaporator tubes. The other is to avoid tube wall temperature fluctuation and tube vibration due to oscillation of circulation velocity. The design criteria are therefore reduced, in principle, to those of critical heat flux, critical flow rate for burnout, and flow instability. In practical design, however, the circulation velocity and the void fraction at the evaporator tube outlet are used as the design criteria (Seikan I., et. al., 1999). This study has been made with assumption that the heat flux in the furnace of the boiler even all the time. The target of the study was to define the circulation rate of the boiler, thus average heat flux do not change it. The goal of this thesis was to make a dimensioning tool to determine the plastic capacity of the boiler supporting header. The capacity of the header is traditionally determined by using FE-method during the project phase. By using the dimensioning tool the goal is to ensure the capacity already in the proposal phase. The study began by analyzing the headers of the ongoing projects by using FE-method. For the analytical solution a plain header was analyzed without the effects of branches or lug. The calibration of parameters in the analytical solution was made using these results. In the analytical solution the plastic capacity of the plastic hinges in the header was defined. The stresses caused by the internal pressure as well as the normal and shear forces caused by the external loading reduced the plastic moment. The final capacity was determined by using the principle of virtual work. The weakening effect of the branches was taken into account by using pressure areas. Also the capacity of the punching shear was defined. The results from the FE-analyses and the analytical solution correlate with each other. The results from the analytical solution are conservative but give correct enough results when considering the accuracy of the used method.

Comprehensive understanding of the heat transfer processes that take place during circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustion is one of the most important issues in CFB technology development. This leads to possibility of predicting, evaluation and proper design of combustion and heat transfer mechanisms. The aim of this thesis is to develop a model for circulating fluidized bed boiler operation. Empirical correlations are used for determining heat transfer coefficients in each part of the furnace. The proposed model is used both in design and offdesign conditions. During off-design simulations fuel moisture content and boiler load effects on boiler operation have been investigated. In theoretical part of the thesis, fuel properties of most typical classes of biomass are widely reviewed. Various schemes of biomass utilization are presented and, especially, concerning circulating fluidized bed boilers. In addition, possible negative effects of biomass usage in boilers are briefly discussed.

Tässä diplomityössä pyritään selvittämään, mitä kaikkea huolto– ja unnossapitosopimuksiin perustuvan liiketoiminnan tuotteistamiselta vaaditaan. Kyseisiä palveluita halutaan markkinoida uusien kerrosleiju–teknologiaan (BFB) perustuvien voimakattilatoimitusten yhteydessä. Diplomityön kirjallisessa osiossa asiaa tutkitaan ensin palveluliiketoimintaan ja tuotteistamiseen liittyvien seikkojen näkökulmasta sekä esitellään kunnossapidon teoriaa ja eri strategiakonsepteja sekä tunnuslukuja. Tutkimuksen empiirisessä osassa luodaan toimintamalli huolto– ja kunnossapitosopimuksia varten. Toimintamallissa pyritään löytämään laitekohtaisesti optimaalinen kunnossapitostrategia soveltaen RCM–menetelmään eli luotettavuuskeskistä kunnossapitotapaa. Käytettäviä kunnossapitostrategioita ovat parantava, ennakoiva, kuntoon perustuva ja korjaava kunnossapito. Optimoinnin päämäärä on saavuttaa mahdollisimman korkea tuotantovarmuus kustannustehokkaasti. Lisäksi työssä arvioidaan eri kunnossapitoresurssien tarve ensimmäisen kymmenen käyttövuoden ajalle. Toinen tutkimustavoite on saattaa elinkaarenseurantatyökalun kehittämisprojekti alkuun. Elinkaarenseurantatyökalulla halutaan seurata eri laitteiden elinkaaren vaihetta sekä löytää paras mahdollinen ajotapojen ja elinkaaren suhde. Työssä saavutettiin kunnossapito–ohjelma ja arvio eri resurssien tarpeesta voimakattilan laitteille. Resurssitarvearvio sisältää arvion työvoiman tarpeesta henkilötyötunteina sekä vaihdettavien vara– ja kulutusosien määrän.

Competition for customers in business-to-business markets is rough, and in order to survive a seller has to be able to deliver more value to its customers than its competitors. This thesis is done for the sales department of an energy technology company operating in business-to-business markets. The company is a relatively small in its field, and it aims to expand internationally and differ itself from its competitors by providing better service for its customers and selling solutions. This study aims to design the transformation from a product seller into a solution seller by defining what is a solution and how solutions are sold, and creating an action plan for sales. Data for the study is collected in ten theme interviews, and analyzed with thematic and content analysis. The action plan is constructed based both on the data and theory. According to the findings of the study, solution is defined as a specially designed unique combination of elements – such as products, services, knowledge, experience and thinking – that work with and complement each other, and bring value to a particular customer. Solution sales requires capabilities to anticipate; build relationships with customers; identify needs and define requirements; cocreate solutions by customizing and integrating elements; and provide postdeployment support. Vision for the change is to sell solution through sensing customers’ needs and responding to them, and the steps of the action plan are to (1) cascade customer-focus, (2) involve other departments in solution sales, (3) develop customer relationship management, and (4) involve the whole organization in solution business.
