New stakeholders, spaces and instruments of analysis in the context of energy relationships: Case studies from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan

The disintegration of the USSR brought the emergence of a new geo-energy space in Central Asia. This space arose in the context of a global energy transition, which began in the late 1970s. Therefore, this new space in a changing energy world requires both new conceptual frameworks of analysis and the creation of new analytical tools. Taking into account this fact, our paper attempts to apply the theoretical framework of the Global Commodity Chain (GCC) to the case of natural resources in Central Asia. The aim of the paper is to check if there could be any Central Asia’s geo-energy space, assuming that this space would exist if natural resources were managed with regional criteria. The paper is divided into four sections. First an introduction that describes the new global energy context within natural resources of Central Asia would be integrated. Secondly, the paper justifies why the GCC methodology is suitable for the study of the value chains of energy products. Thirdly, we build up three cases studies (oil and uranium from Kazakhstan and gas from Turkmenistan) which reveal a high degree of uncertainty over the direction these chains will take. Finally, we present the conclusions of this study that state that the most plausible scenario would be the integration of energy resources of these countries in GCC where the core of the decision-making process will be far away from the region of Central Asia. Place branding : a conceptual and theoretical framework

Within the context of rising competition between territories, identity has become the most important element of recognition, differentiation and commodification in the communicative process within which cities, regions and countries position themselves. Geographical spaces thus compete in terms of this identity, which is then subjected to fierce comparison and competition (Nogué, 1999; Anholt, 2007a). The territorial brand thus entails the reinvention of places through a process of brand construction (branding) based on the promotion of the individual and collective identities of geographical spaces; these identities, in turn, are imbued with the intangible factors associated with their respective territorial identities.

Weighted Hardy spaces for the unit disc: approximation properties

In this paper we study basic properties of the weighted Hardy space for the unit disc with the weight function satisfying Muckenhoupt's (Aq) condition, and study related approximation problems (expansion, moment and interpolation) with respect to two incomplete systems of holomorphic functions in this space.

Norm inequalities in multidimensional Lorentz spaces

In this paper we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for double trigonometric series to belong to generalized Lorentz spaces, not symmetric in general. Estimates for the norms are given in terms of coefficients.

Variational inequalities in Hilbert spaces with measures and optimal stopping problems

We study the existence theory for parabolic variational inequalities in weighted L2 spaces with respect to excessive measures associated with a transition semigroup. We characterize the value function of optimal stopping problems for finite and infinite dimensional diffusions as a generalized solution of such a variational inequality. The weighted L2 setting allows us to cover some singular cases, such as optimal stopping for stochastic equations with degenerate diffusion coeficient. As an application of the theory, we consider the pricing of American-style contingent claims. Among others, we treat the cases of assets with stochastic volatility and with path-dependent payoffs.

Sport, immigration and multiculturality: a conceptual analysis

Paper given by Chris Kennett at the European Forum: Culture, Sport and Proximity held in Almería on the 5 May 2005 and promoted by the Diputación Provincial de Almería. The paper explores the key concepts that comprise the social policy discourse related to immigration and how these relate to sports provision. The potential role for sport in the integration of immigrants is considered, as well as the risks of sports as a potentially divisive force, particularly in terms of racism. This discussion leads to the consideration of the need for intercultural dialogue through sport in order to contribute to the achievement of the sustainable integration of immigrant groups. In order to achieve this goal, research is called for into the needs of immigrant groups as a key phase in the development of sports policy.

Esport, immigració i multiculturalitat: una anàlisi conceptual

Text de la ponència presentada pel doctor Chris Kennett al “Foro Europeo: Cultura, Deporte y Proximidad” organitzat per la Diputación Provincial de Almería i celebrat a Almeria el 5 de maig de 2005. El text examina els conceptes clau que comprèn el discurs polític social relacionat amb la immigració i com es relacionen aquests conceptes amb l’esport. Es té en compte el paper potencial que juga l’esport en la integració dels immigrants i els riscs dels esports com a força potencialment divisiva, sobretot pel que fa al racisme. Aquesta discussió porta a considerar la necessitat de diàleg intercultural a través de l’esport per tal de contribuir a aconseguir una integració sostenible dels grups immigrants. Per tal d’assolir aquest objectiu, cal fer una recerca sobre les necessitats dels grups immigrants, ja que és una fase clau en el desenvolupament de la política de l’esport.

On the boundedness on inhomogeneous Lipschitz spaces of fractional integrals, singular integrals and hypersingular integrals associated to non-doubling measures on metric spaces

In this paper we prove T1 type necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness on inhomogeneous Lipschitz spaces of fractional integrals and singular integrals defined on a measure metric space whose measure satisfies a n-dimensional growth. We also show that hypersingular integrals are bounded on these spaces.

Marco conceptual y metodológico para un estudio sobre las tareas de traducción e interpretación desempeñadas en el ámbito laboral

El treball pretent establir les bases conceptuals i metodològiques per poder estudiar l’activitat dels traductors i intèrprets realitzada en l’àmbit laboral. En la primera part acunyem el terme “tasca de traducció i interpretació” aplicat a l’anàlisi de l’activitat laboral i analitzem distints contexts d’ús del dit terme. La segona part contè una anàlisi de la metodologia d’enquesta en Traductologia i camps afins, i a més una proposta del diseny d’un estudi empíric amb l’aplicació de l’enquesta sobre tasques de traducció i interpretació exercides en l’àmbit laboral.

Homotopy exponents for large H-Spaces

We show that H-spaces with finitely generated cohomology, as an algebra or as an algebra over the Steenrod algebra, have homotopy exponents at all primes. This provides a positive answer to a question of Stanley.

Net spaces and boundedness of integral operators

In this paper we introduce new functional spaces which we call the net spaces. Using their properties, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the integral operators to be of strong or weak-type are obtained. The estimates of the norm of the convolution operator in weighted Lebesgue spaces are presented.

Convolution inequalities in Lorentz spaces

In this paper we study boundedness of the convolution operator in different Lorentz spaces. In particular, we obtain the limit case of the Young-O'Neil inequality in the classical Lorentz spaces. We also investigate the convolution operator in the weighted Lorentz spaces. Finally, norm inequalities for the potential operator are presented.

Análisis de l'utilitat d'una plataforma digital sincrónica i de l'apropiació conceptual del professorat dels Camps d'Aprenentatge en el marc d'un curs de formació permanent

El projecte pretenia analitzar com l'ús de les noves tecnologies incideixen en un procés de formació permanent per afavorir la participació i l’apropiació de les noves mirades als fenòmens, la innovació en didàctica de les ciències experimentals i les ciències socials. El projecte ha tingut una durada d'un any i s'ha realitzat a Catalunya. En el projecte han intervingut tres formadors de la UAB i els Camps d'Aprenentatge depenents del Departament d'Educació. El desenvolupament del projecte ha tingut lloc en base als materials elaborats o transcrits durant diferents sessions virtuals, en les que s'ha utilitzat una plataforma sincrònica, i en diferents sessions presencials. Els resultats del projecte mostren que tot i que el canvi de les mirades sobre els fenòmens del món és un procés lent, l'us de la plataforma combinada amb sessions presencials, i l'anàlisi i la discussió dels resultats amb els formadors, afavoreix aquest procés de canvi.

Norm convolution inequalities in Lebesgue spaces

We obtain upper and lower estimates of the (p; q) norm of the con-volution operator. The upper estimate sharpens the Young-type inequalities due to O'Neil and Stepanov.
