Resumo:
The Cultural Property Risk Analysis Model was applied in 2006 to a Portuguese archive located in Lisbon. Its results highlighted the need for the institution to take care of risks related to fire, physical forces and relative humidity problems. Five years after this first analysis the results are revisited and a few changes are introduced due to recent events: fire and high humidity remain an important hazard but are now accompanied by a pressing contaminants problem. Improvements in storage systems were responsible for a large decrease in terms of calculated risk magnitude and proved to be very cost-effective.

O projecto “Principais tendências no cinema português contemporâneo” nasceu no Departamento de Cinema da ESTC, com o objectivo de desenvolver investigação especializada a partir de um núcleo formado por alunos da Licenciatura em Cinema e do Mestrado em Desenvolvimento de Projecto Cinematográfico, a que se juntaram professores-investigadores membros do CIAC e convidados. O que agora se divulga corresponde a dois anos e meio de trabalho desenvolvido pela equipa de investigação, entre Abril de 2009 e Novembro de 2011. Dada a forma que ele foi adquirindo, preferimos renomeá-lo, para efeitos de divulgação, “Novas & velhas tendências no cinema português contemporâneo”.

This paper is concerned with the protection of wind energy systems against the indirect effects of lightning. As wind energy is gaining increasing importance throughout the world, lightning damages involving wind energy systems have come to be regarded with more attention. Nevertheless, there are still very few studies in Portugal regarding lightning protection of wind energy systems using models of the Electro-Magnetic Transients Program (EMTP). Hence, a new case study is presented in this paper, based on a wind turbine with an interconnecting transformer, considering that lightning strikes the soil near the tower at a distance such that galvanic coupling occurs through the grounding electrode. Computer simulations obtained by using EMTP-RV are presented and conclusions are duly drawn. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The increasing use of ionizing radiation for medical purposes emphasizes the concern about safety and justification of using ionizing radiation. This is linked with the use of new and high-dose X-ray technology (particularly CT). According to the UNSCEAR 2010 Report the total number of diagnostic medical examinations (both medical and dental) is estimated to have risen from 2.4 billion (period 1991–1996) to 3.6 billion (period 1997– 2008) - a marked increase in collective doses. An appropriate use of technology aiming diagnostic or therapy and respecting the ALARA principle is a mandatory requisite to safely perform any radiological procedure. Radiation protection is thus, a concern of all specialists in the radiology field ( radiologists, radiographers, medical physicists, among other professional groups). The importance of education and training of these professionals in reducing patients’ doses while maintaining the desired level of quality in medical exposures, as well as precise therapeutic treatments is well recognized. Education, training and continuing professional development (CPD) constitute a triad pointing towards the radiographers’ development of competences in the radiation protection field. This presentation excludes the radiographer role and competences in the fields of ultrasonography and MRI.

A method to control the speed or the torque of a permanent-magnet direct current motor is presented. The rotor speed and the external torque estimation are simultaneously provided by appropriate observers. The sensorless control scheme is based on current measurement and switching states of power devices. The observer’s performances are dependent on the accurate machine parameters knowledge. Sliding mode control approach was adopted for drive control, providing the suitable switching states to the chopper power devices. Despite the predictable chattering, a convenient first order switching function was considered enough to define the sliding surface and to correspond with the desired control specifications and drive performance. The experimental implementation was supported on a single dsPIC and the controller includes a logic overcurrent protection.

In this paper, we present the results of mammography quality control tests related to the work with Portuguese mammography equipment, either in conventional or in digital mammography computed radiography, showing the main differences in the tested equipments. Quality control in mammography is a very special area of quality control in radiology, which demands relatively high knowledge on physics. Digital imaging is changing the standards of the radiographic imaging. Regarding mammography, this is yet a controversial issue owing to some limitations of the digital detectors, like the resolution for instance. A complete set of results regarding radiation protection of the patients submitted to mammography diagnosis is presented. A discussion of the quality image parameters and its interpretation in conventional and digital mammography is presented. In conclusion, we present a sample of results that can be considered as characteristics of mammography equipment in Portugal.

The general transcription factor TFIIB, encoded by SUA7 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is required for transcription activation but apparently of a specific subset of genes, for example, linked with mitochondrial activity and hence with oxidative environments. Therefore, studying SUA7/TFIIB as a potential target of oxidative stress is fundamental. We found that controlled SUA7 expression under oxidative conditions occurs at transcriptional and mRNA stability levels. Both regulatory events are associated with the transcription activator Yap1 in distinct ways: Yap1 affects SUA7 transcription up regulation in exponentially growing cells facing oxidative signals; the absence of this activator per se contributes to increase SUA7 mRNA stability. However, unlike SUA7 mRNA, TFIIB abundance is not altered on oxidative signals. The biological impact of this preferential regulation of SUA7 mRNA pool is revealed by the partial suppression of cellular oxidative sensitivity by SUA7 overexpression, and supported by the insights on the existence of a novel RNA-binding factor, acting as an oxidative sensor, which regulates mRNA stability. Taken together the results point out a primarily cellular commitment to guarantee SUA7 mRNA levels under oxidative environments.

Solution enthalpies of 1,4-dioxane have been obtained in 15 protic and aprotic solvents at 298.15 K. Breaking the overall process through the use of Solomonov's methodology the cavity term was calculated and interaction enthalpies (Delta H-int) were determined. Main factors involved in the interaction enthalpy have been identified and quantified using a QSPR approach based on the TAKA model equation. The relevant descriptors were found to be pi* and beta, which showed, respectively, exothermic and endothermic contributions. The magnitude of pi* coefficient points toward non-specific solute-solvent interactions playing a major role in the solution process. The positive value of the beta coefficient reflects the endothermic character of the solvents' hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) basicity contribution, indicating that solvent molecules engaged in hydrogen bonding preferentially interact with each other rather than with 1,4-dioxane. Apesar da pluriculturalidade que caracteriza algumas regiões de Portugal, existe um desconhecimento e por vezes resistência, em particular das comunidades mais tradicionais e das gerações mais antigas, na aceitação dos imigrantes que escolhem o nosso País como destino de acolhimento. Conhecer as comunidades imigrantes pode ajudar a perceber e a minimizar as dificuldades do convívio pluricultural. Este será, na atualidade, um dos papéis que o animador sociocultural será chamado a desempenhar. Para isso, é necessário que reconheça os recursos legais, metodológicos e teóricos que tem ao seu dispor, sendo estas as premissas que norteiam o presente exercício. Esta análise nasceu de uma proposta de trabalho da Unidade Curricular de Multiculturalidade e Cidadania, mas rapidamente se revelou um importante contributo para o conhecimento da diversidade cultural no nosso país. Após uma contextualização teórica relativa aos principais fluxos migratórios em Portugal, é apresentada a análise dos dados relativos à composição das origens dos imigrantes em Portugal na atualidade e a sua distribuição pelo território português. Este é o ponto de partidapara a reflexão que se lhe seguiu, que visa, por um lado, identificar algumas das problemáticas que resultam dos contextos de diversidade cultural e, por outro, conhecer as propostas do Estado para promover a integração do “outro”. Estes pilares sustentaram a abordagem final relativa ao papel da Animação Sociocultural (ASC) e do animador neste contexto.
As remisturas satíricas no YouTube: criatividade e subversão nas lutas de poder simbólico e cultural

O YouTube é descrito como uma “comunidade” em que os seus membros fazem vídeos em conjunto, vêem as criações vídeo uns dos outros, são inspirados por esses vídeos, comentam-nos e partilham-nos. Este artigo foca-se nas práticas vídeo de remistura desenvolvidas no campo da política, no seu sentido mais estrito, envolvendo actores e temáticas tradicionalmente consideradas desta esfera, mas também no sentido mais lato, enquanto respeitante às lutas de poder que marcam a vida social, especialmente no que se refere às lutas de poder simbólico e cultural. A remistura com fins de crítica política proporciona a exposição tanto das estratégias dos actores políticos, como do funcionamento interno dos media e das relações entre ambos. Estas práticas vídeo contributivas implicam dois processos distintos: primeiro, a partilha de um vasto quadro referencial, ligando a construção de sentido a um carácter intertextual no ambiente online; e segundo, procedente da digitalização, a transformação de imagens, palavras e sons em elementos prontos a utilizar de uma linguagem multimédia que conduz a formas avançadas de pastiche e paródia.

This paper intends to show the Portuguese municipalities’ commitment, since the first decade of this century, in cultural facilities of municipal management and how it provided 12 of the 18 district capitals of mainland Portugal with cultural equipment, but after all we want to know if this effort resulted in a regular, diverse, and innovative schedule. Investing in urban regeneration, local governments have tried to convert cities’ demographic changes (strengthening of the most educated and professionally qualified groups) in effective cultural demands that consolidate the three axes of development competitiveness-innovation-creativity. What the empirical study to the programming and communication proposals of those equipment shows is that it is not enough to provide cities with facilities; to escape to a utilitarian conception of culture, there is a whole work to be done so that such equipment be experienced and felt as new public sphere. Equipment in which proposals go through a fluid bind, constructed through space and discourse with local community, devoted a diversified and innovative bet full filling development axis. This paper presents in a systematic way what contributes to this binding on the analyzed equipment.
