The scope of this paper is to adapt the standard mean-variance model of Henry Markowitz theory, creating a simulation tool to find the optimal configuration of the portfolio aggregator, calculate its profitability and risk. Currently, there is a deep discussion going on among the power system society about the structure and architecture of the future electric system. In this environment, policy makers and electric utilities find new approaches to access the electricity market; this configures new challenging positions in order to find innovative strategies and methodologies. Decentralized power generation is gaining relevance in liberalized markets, and small and medium size electricity consumers are also become producers (“prosumers”). In this scenario an electric aggregator is an entity that joins a group of electric clients, customers, producers, “prosumers” together as a single purchasing unit to negotiate the purchase and sale of electricity. The aggregator conducts research on electricity prices, contract terms and conditions in order to promote better energy prices for their clients and allows small and medium customers to benefit improved market prices.

Desde o início da utilização da imunohistoquímica em anatomia patológica, um dos objetivos tem sido detetar as quantidades mais ínfimas de antigénio, tornando-o visível ao microscópio ótico. Vários sistemas de amplificação têm sido aplicados de forma a concretizar este objetivo, tendo surgido um grupo genérico de métodos simples e que apresentam uma amplificação superior: são os denominados métodos do polímero indireto. Tendo em conta a variedade de métodos disponíveis, o autor propõe-se a comparar a qualidade de quatro sistemas de amplificação, que recorrem ao método do polímero indireto com horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Foram utilizadas lâminas de diferentes tecidos, fixados em formol e incluídos em parafina, nos quais se procedeu à identificação de 15 antigénios distintos. Na amplificação recorreu-se a quatro sistemas de polímero indireto (Dako EnVision+ System – K4006; LabVision UltraVision LP Detection System – TL-004-HD; Leica NovoLink – RE7140-k; Vector ImmPRESS Reagent Kit – MP-7402). A observação microscópica e classificação da imunomarcação obtida foram feitas com base num algoritmo que enquadra intensidade, marcação específica, marcação inespecífica e contraste, num score global que pode tomar valores entre 0 e 25. No tratamento dos dados, para além da estatística descritiva, foi utilizado o teste one-way ANOVA com posthoc de tukey (alfa=0.05). O melhor resultado obtido, em termos de par média/desvio-padrão, dos scores globais foi o do NovoLink (22,4/2,37) e o pior foi o do EnVision+ (17,43/3,86). Verificou-se ainda que existe diferença estatística entre os resultados obtidos pelo sistema NovoLink e os sistemas UltraVision (p=.004), ImmPRESS (p=.000) e EnVision+ (p=.000). Concluiu-se que o sistema que permitiu a obtenção de melhores resultados, neste estudo, foi o Leica NovoLink.

This paper is concerned with direct or indirect lightning strokes on wind turbines, studying overvoltages and electromagnetic transients. As wind power generation undergoes rapid growth, lightning damages involving wind turbines have come to be regarded with more attention. With the aim of providing further insights into the lightning protection of wind turbines, describing the transient behavior in an accurate way, the restructured version (RV) of the electromagnetic transients program (EMTP) is used in this paper. A new case study is presented with two interconnected wind turbines, considering a direct lightning stroke to the blade or considering that lightning strikes the soil near a tower. Comprehensive computer simulations with EMTP-RV are presented and conclusions are duly drawn.

Conventional film based X-ray imaging systems are being replaced by their digital equivalents. Different approaches are being followed by considering direct or indirect conversion, with the later technique dominating. The typical, indirect conversion, X-ray panel detector uses a phosphor for X-ray conversion coupled to a large area array of amorphous silicon based optical sensors and a couple of switching thin film transistors (TFT). The pixel information can then be readout by switching the correspondent line and column transistors, routing the signal to an external amplifier. In this work we follow an alternative approach, where the electrical switching performed by the TFT is replaced by optical scanning using a low power laser beam and a sensing/switching PINPIN structure, thus resulting in a simpler device. The optically active device is a PINPIN array, sharing both front and back electrical contacts, deposited over a glass substrate. During X-ray exposure, each sensing side photodiode collects photons generated by the scintillator screen (560 nm), charging its internal capacitance. Subsequently a laser beam (445 nm) scans the switching diodes (back side) retrieving the stored charge in a sequential way, reconstructing the image. In this paper we present recent work on the optoelectronic characterization of the PINPIN structure to be incorporated in the X-ray image sensor. The results from the optoelectronic characterization of the device and the dependence on scanning beam parameters are presented and discussed. Preliminary results of line scans are also presented. In slaughterhouses, the biological risk is present not only from the direct or indirect contact with animal matter, but also from the exposure to bioaerosols. Fungal contamination was already reported from the floors and walls of slaughterhouses. This study intends to assess fungal contamination by cultural and molecular methods in poultry, swine/bovine and large animal slaughterhouses. Air samples were collected through an impaction method, while surface samples were collected by the swabbing method and subjected to further macro- and micro-scopic observations. In addition, we collected air samples using the impinger method in order to perform real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) amplification of genes from specific fungal species, namely A. flavus, A. fumigatus and A. ochraceus complexes. Poultry and swine/bovine slaughterhouses presented each two sampling sites that surpass the guideline of 150 CFU/m3. Scopulariopsis candida was the most frequently isolated (59.5%) in poultry slaughterhouse air; Cladosporium sp. (45.7%) in the swine/bovine slaughterhouse; and Penicillium sp. (80.8%) in the large animal slaughterhouse. Molecular tools successfully amplified DNA from the A. fumigatus complex in six sampling sites where the presence of this fungal species was not identified by conventional methods. This study besides suggesting the indicators that are representative of harmful fungal contamination, also indicates a strategy as a protocol to ensure a proper characterization of fungal occupational exposure.
