Communicating culture: strategic communication management of the contemporary art museums in the XXIth century, in Portugal: case studies: Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea: Lisboa; Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, no Porto; Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Elvas

Throughout the year and half of research developed during the times of crisis or economic crisis in Portugal due to the austerity measures, this thesis focuses on the cultural communication and museology in the area of cultural management in Portugal. With an ever growing number of research being developed over the world, this study is unique as it studies managerial diversity and organisational structures of Contemporary Art Museums that exist in Portugal but more importantly how they communicate their organizations within and beyond the Museum walls such as online or other technological media. As the communication management of the museums is one of aspects of culture in which cultural management intends to intervene. The research study that I proposed to analyse has at the forefront the intention to understand how the Contemporary Art Museums in Portugal manage their communication and respective organizations, whether they be a Public-Private/Foundation, State or Council run organizations but also understand if a strategic plan is designed and implemented in times of crisis, to withstand disruptive economic scenarios projected on a daily basis. The following Museums were selected due to the fact of being Contemporary Art Museums but also their respective diverse territorial distribution, one in the city capital of Portugal, Lisbon: MNAC – Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea, a stately run organisation; the second, in the north of Portugal: MACS – Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, a public/private organisation under the Foundation organics and the third Museum in interior central region of Portugal, Alentejo: MACE – Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Elvas, managed by the Elvas City Council.

Sociomuseologia e género: memória das mulheres artistas em Brasil e Portugal

Situamos a dissertação no campo científico da Gestão Cultural, selecionando como área de estudo a relação entre a Sociomuseologia e o Gênero e, como tema específico, o espaço das mulheres artistas em duas exposições museológicas recentes, ocorridas no Brasil(MARGS) e em Portugal(MFTPJ). Para realizar a comparação percorremos a história das mulheres artistas na sociedade até a sua condição atual, dentro das políticas para a igualdade de gênero e para os museus, destacando a importância da Sociomuseologia para o reconhecimento e a valorização das artistas no espaço museal. Ao analisar o lugar da mulher artista, dentro das exposições O Museu Sensível – uma visão da produção de artistas mulheres na coleção do MARGS e Museu no Feminino – mulheres artistas na coleção do MFTPJ, refletimos também sobre como a memória das mulheres artistas é preservada e promovida em cada país através de seus museus.

O plano museológico do concelho de Loulé. O exemplo do Polo Museológico dos Frutos Secos.

Em 1991 é estabelecido o Plano Museológico do concelho de Loulé, a partir de uma proposta discutida em reunião aberta com associações locais, investigadores e outros interessados. Desde aí, o Museu Municipal de Loulé tem desenvolvido esforços concertados com muitos actores locais, públicos ou privados no sentido de concretizar a instalação de uma rede de pólos museológicos diversificados – mas complementares – que permitam uma interpretação cultural do rico património do concelho.

Predicting intention to work with social robots

The growing number of robotic solutions geared to interact socially with humans, social robots, urge the study of the factors that will facilitate or hinder future human robot collaboration. Hence the research question: what are the factors that predict intention to work with a social robot in the near future. To answer this question the following socio-cognitive models were studied, the theory of reasoned action, the theory of planned behavior and the model of goal directed behavior. These models purport that all the other variables will only have an indirect effect on behavior. That is, through the variables of the model. Based on the research on robotics and social perception/ cognition, social robot appearance, belief in human nature uniqueness, perceived warmth, perceived competence, anthropomorphism, negative attitude towards robots with human traits and negative attitudes towards interactions with robots were studied for their effects on attitude towards working with a social robot, perceived behavioral control, positive anticipated emotions and negative anticipated emotions. Study 1 identified the social representation of robot. Studies 2 to 5 investigated the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the negative attitude towards robots scale. Study 6 investigated the psychometric properties of the belief in human nature uniqueness scale. Study 7 tested the theory of reasoned action and the theory of planned behavior. Study 8 tested the model of goal directed behavior. Studies 7 and 8 also tested the role of the external variables. Study 9 tested and compared the predictive power of the three socio-cognitive models. Finally conclusion are drawn from the research results, and future research suggestions are offered.
